  • Cage tour properly starts at 2:17 if you want to skip my chatter 👌🏼🐀 ETA: I didn't rehome Franklin & George in the end. Things began to get better the next month and I felt like I could keep them, unfortunately Franklin has since passed away. I'm going to try and integrate George into the group now as he can't live alone. Fingers crossed they eventually accept each other this time.

    You should put a rock inside the litter tray! For some reason, rats like peeing on rocks and that's how I litter trained my rats. And now they pee on the Rock and you just sanitize it in hot water or just trade out the rock haha

    Rats are the best. No one understands how amazing they are until they own them. They are so so clever, caring,funny and affectionate. To me they are like mini dogs. I couldn't imagine life without them. If you ever want some new rats try Ouzles rattery, they breed the most beautiful rats with awesome personalities. X

      pinkangel729 yeah people always say that they are nasty and scary blablabla, but rats are the best little creatures you will meet!
      I think that rats are just too judged by their cover.

      I love rats but sadly I've lost 2 of mine
      One of them died mysteriously
      (we thought he had a chest condition but now we think it was a more surver condition, a heart condition and then had a heart attack)
      The other one I had to put down as he was in sooooo much pain we tryed several different ways to help him but he had 2 tumer one on his neck that healed and one on his inside that caused him lots of problems
      I miss them both dearly but I don't let the one sad day ruin all the good ones
      I am just loving one rat who seems to be doing quite well I think he's a bit Lonley but u give him alot of attention
      He doesn't really like being handled but he loves me having a chat with him :)
      Never stop loving rats

    Domestic rats should have a different name than rats just because when you say rats someone will most likely say “ewww you have rats” because they think of sewer rats. It makes me so sad that rats are just misunderstood

      Ask around town. Somebody always knows someone. I have a friend who told me that her nephew had them and he gave me a blue dumbo rat. He spent 4 hours everyday with his ratties and are very tame. He does sell them but responsibly breeds them once a year if that and only lets them breed twice before fixing them. If they have the wrong personality type, he will not let them breed. My little Ivy is so personable and if you didn't know any better, you would think she was a puppy. She loves people and loves to give kisses. He potty trained them too. She won't urinate everywhere...just cell phones and remote controls so....we just keep them away from her. Put them back in the cage every 30 minutes to potty; the minute they do...let them out. It's the best way to potty train them. Same way you do a ferret.

      Angelina Ⓥ hello! I have always been the opinion of the adopt don’t shop but mainly for cats and dogs... honestly I think I’ll be fine to buy a rat at a pet shop hear me out though! You’re supporting the pet shop more if you continue to buy things from them but you’re still rescuing a rat from conditions if you buy it from the pet store isn’t it!? I have gotten both of my rat from a breeder and one of my rats my pet store who is in horrible conditions. These are just my believes and I respect yours

    • @artandme_
      @artandme_ 6 років тому +9

      _.Rattastic._ if you buy a rat in a shop, it may look like you have saved a rat but in reality you just payed for the next rat to be abused. Because with your money they will buy a next one and treat him/her the same way they did to your rat.
      I would know because I have worked in a Petshop for a short time. I am so glad that I don't work there anymore.

    Thank you for this awesome video! :) I had rats for quiet some time, but as I got 4 new girls after one year of having no pets, I started to have allergic reactions when I played with them :( Even though it broke my (and my boyfriends) heart, we had to give them back to the lovely rescue station. It seemed like my allergy was only getting worse and I couldn't touch them because my skin broke out and started itching horribly. But I found out that they have been there for only two months and got a new and hopefully awesome and loving home.
    Snow, Ghost, Fey and Nox, I do always love and miss you. I hope you have lovely new people that share their fruits and vegetables with you and love you like we did.
    Kiera, I do really love your rat videos, they always make me happy because I see how much you love your ratties. Hope you have a wonderful day.

  • @erinl1497

    I love this!!! I have my three girls in a single Critter Nation but they aren't as kind about leaving the fleece down in the corners no matter how I try to clip it down. It's rude of their dumb little butts -- but I've accepted it.
    As having to rehome your rats, don't feel guilty. It took me over six months to get two of my girls to be in a cage together in the past, and the only reason I stuck with it so long is that I had nowhere I could trust to rehome them. That's just how it works with pack animals sometimes; and it sounds like everything you do with your rats is amazing. Keep it up!

  • @177639
    @177639 7 років тому +13

    I love your rat videos.
    We got a double critter nation cage over a year back. (For only 3 rats, spoiled girls!) We were warned that we should get a rubber mallet and lots of booze. The assembly process was actually not too bad since we have assembled lots of IKEA furniture together.
    RE: hammocks, I use metal carabiner clips to attach the hammocks to the bars. Very easy. Metal shower curtain rings can be useful, too.

    • @littleloulou1
      @littleloulou1 6 років тому

      Also, I use plastic laundry clips with hooks from dollar general, 4/$1. I also hang a double layer of fleece from a dollar store basket....her favorite basket. I slit two tabs to tie to the basket and let the rest hang down for more insulation. She loves it more than when I hung it from the top or sides. I think the basket is here to stay for years.

    Im just getting Into rats, and I'm really exited for what has to come in the future. I have a sewing machine so I could sew these hanging things myself! Right now I can't have rats because the cage is the home if another pet, but they are old already so.. yeah.
    How good are rats at opening cage doors? Like the regular ones without locks(?)? Because I will get everything I need over time and if I really need to buy a new cage in the end, I can look after what doors it will have.

    i love that you mentioned adopt don't shop, though i would also like to add that ethical ratteries are incredible. in my area, i have looked far and wide and the only rats up for adoption are the occasional one or two year old pet store rat. they deserve a home, i know, but i grew up with pet store rats and i just cannot go through the heartbreak of tumors and respiratory issues again. especially with more than half their life gone already.
    ratteries whose mission is to preserve health and behavior are all over the place and they are absolutely amazing. while i discourage backyard dog and cat breeding, i have had nothing but good experiences and responsibility with ratteries.

    • @donkeykongisbaby

      Fleece actually is really bad for rats, as it doesn't soak up the pee and it can lead to respiratory issues. If you want to use fleece, you have to clean it at LEAST every 2 days, if not more. It's actually better to use Aspen or kiln dried pine, buying either of them dust free.
      Many UA-camrs use fleece, but it's mainly used for decoration. It isn't good for rats overall. Hopefully this helps if you have rats or want any! It's important keep them safe.

    I used to have three rats but they were separated In little cages. I recently learned they like being together, would one level but big be enough room for three? I miss my rats and I want to get more one fancy, dumbo & hairless.

    I don't know how effective it will be with ratites, but my guinea pigs LOVE boxes but they would never last me, so I would cut off the bottom so they wouldn't pee in them and I found they would last A LOT longer. Best of luck!

    Hey, I really liked your video and your rats seem happy. But can you tell me, why you (and perhaps other people) have those fleece mats in the cage instead of wood shavings, hay or something like that? Is this just because cleaing up it up is easier or are there other reasons? I'm just curious. Thanks ;)

    Where did you get your litter tray from? I've been looking for one with a grill like that and I couldn't find it anywhere! I'm getting pet rats soon!

    I’ve had a rat that is like some of yours, where their ears remain more on the sides of their head, and some have had upright ears, is that like genetic?

    Nice rats, and a lovely cage. But I think you should cover the ladders because little rat feet can get caught in them. I covered them with fleece. 🐀🐀🐀

    My rats always make nesting material out of any kind of fleece/clothing I put in. Till the point I can't even wash it any more because it's all tiny bits. They do this in less than a week.

    I have a question ! Me and my bf want to adopt 2 rats, we are students and we both live in the same appartment. However, we go home every weekend so we have to leave the appartment for 2 days every week. Is it still ok to adopt rats?

    I want to buy a cage but I don't know what cage to buy? It is for only 2 or 3 rats and it is my first cage! Do I choose the one level critter nation cage or the tallest critter nation two level cage? Pls comment to help me choose!

    Brilliant video! your boys are so cute. your ratties totally inspired me to get two of my own. I adopted them from pets at home but unfortunately they've started fighting and have had to be separated :( they're not particularly friendly either and I have the time to socialise one but definetly not two separately. it's so hard to let them go 😢

    My rats died a few days ago (one on the seventh of old age and one eighth because she was suffering so we had her put down) and I miss them so much but I'm loving your videos as I feel like I can improve my future rats' lives.

    I have 2 boy rats I just got them in February, they produced a ton of Oder and my mom isn’t happy about that. I’ve tried so much to keep the Oder down but nothing works, any tips. My mom said that I will be giving them away soon and every time I think of that I just get so sad I can’t imagine life without them now😭

    Is the one level critter nation a good size for two rats or is it too big?
