    I started with Blink cameras at my vacation house. I was super happy that I had the option of them running off of batteries, rather than having to drill into my house multiple times and wire them up. I needed a doorbell for my personal home, so I went with blink because I already use them. Installation was very easy. The quality of the video with the doorbell is also very nice. Overall, I'm happy! Here's the thing guys and gals...it's a DOORBELL!! Am I able to count my neighbors wrinkles on his forehead when he comes by and rings it? Ehhh not really. Do I need that in a doorbell? Nope! I needed a doorbell..the fact that it has video as well is a plus. Hate to break it to anyone, but if you're solely relying on a doorbell and the camera that comes with it on protecting you and your family from potential threats, I think you have bigger issues. If you're someone who just wants a doorbell, and isn't looking for 4K, or instantaneous response times, then go with BLINK you won't be let down!

    *Hello guys, I've been receiving comments about the doorbell being hard to lock in on the mount or back cover. I made a short video on it and I think a lot of people assume just to push the doorbell in to the mount and it will lock in place. You also have to push the doorbell down while pushing it in. - > **ua-cam.com/video/XDl3m6sjp_o/v-deo.html*

    Blink camera and Ring doorbell owner here. I can only see the Blink doorbell being a good fit for someone who wants to keep an eye on their doorstep but is adverse to AI. There are many people out there that don't trust a camera being smart enough to detect and report people (to the cloud). And the Blink cameras are *just* smart enough to accomplish this.

    For something that is half the price of the ring with no subscription fees, it's pretty good. Especially given that it's powered by lithium batteries. Expect a bit of a trade off on features.

    If your having trouble sliding the 2 pieces together place a little grease on the silicone gasket that's inside the doorbell , the 2 sections will now slide much easier. You could also use butter or any oil to apply to that gasket, that's were the issue is causing it to not slide together.

    Thanks for another in depth review. I have several Blink XT2s. Users have said the activity zones do not work very well. MIne don't. Gray out an area and I still get notifications, especially with car lights at night. If this doorbell camera has the same issue people will get lots of unwanted alerts when cars drive by with no AI. It seems Amazon wants to keep Blink an affordable basic bare bones system with old tech. It's ok for what it does, rather have Blink than no cameras at all. But there's now much better options and features to protect the home. I installed another brand system about a year ago with AI, 4K, 24/7 recording if I want, subscription optional. I paid more but got a lot more too.

    Have 3 Blink cameras now so I ordered the Door Bell for $49, and will use the camera at the front door now somewhere else and save $40 instead of buying a new outdoor cam. Watching other cheap door bell camera reviews the Blinks seams to have a fast response and decent quality video. I don't have any Alexa items so that is not an issue for me.

      That's my issue, is that there's no option (that I know of) for continuous recording. (?) So if I notice something on my property got stolen, I have to hope the motion detection triggered the recording to start, and even then- it would only record 30s, then stop for 10s (then will it automatically start recording again for 30s more, or only if more motion triggers it?)

    I have this doorbell and its great, its more for someone that lives in a apartment or townhouse and cant mount it permanently. As far as not having a live view, its to save battery ( do you just stair at your doorbell all day?) if you leave a vid capture in the app you can just go to it and have all the live view you want on your phone.I have a echo show 8 and can tell Alexia to show me the blink doorbell and she brings it right up. I paid $59 for it and the sync2 and so i can save all recording of the doorbell and the 2 blink mini's i have. I love his videos but think he was a bit harsh on the blink, for the money i haven't seen anything much better.(That is battery operated and super easy to install.) BTW you can make a routine and tell Alexia to show the door bell when the bell is pressed and a echo show will show you a auto live view.

    Great video as usual. I can only get the Blink doorbell to ring on my phone, not on the echo show. I have it connected to the Alexa app, but still not able to get it to chime on the echo show. Alexa does show all the cameras including the doorbell. I can, however, say "Alexa show me the doorbell" and it does show the live stream from doorbell. Just can't get the darn chime to play on the echo show.

    Your presentation are fantastic clear and concise. One thing I would like to know does the door bell unit have to sound or can it be disabled not to sound outside. I would like that it only sound in the house on my door bell and phone and Alexa.

    I do not currently have a video doorbell & looking to add one. After watching a few of your comparison videos along witb this one.
    I have decided to go with the Eufy battery-powered 2k doorbell, instead of going with the Blink offering.
    Thank you for taking the time to do all your reviews, they have been very helpful.
    Now I only need to decide what outdoor cameras to go with.
    The Eufy 2c Pro is definitely on my radar....

    Only just available as of yesterday here in the UK, expecting mine today to add to existing grandfathered account. Mine will directly face a road so I'm hoping mainly that I don't have issues with cars and people passing because the motion zones are going to be tricky to blank out the road but still trigger if someone approaches the door when motion detection is armed at nighttime

    • @Catherine-nv7wc
      @Catherine-nv7wc 2 роки тому

      This is exactly what I'm hoping too, As I plan to get the blink doorbell as well but my it will face a sidewalk & a road, I'm hoping every single car and/or every single person walking by doesn't trigger the motion but if someone walks up to my front door it will trigger it

      @@Catherine-nv7wc mine has been installed for a couple of days now and it's only set to detect motion at night, I've tested it in the day too. I completely blanked out the motion zones on the road and left the path to the front door with sensitivity set to 5 and it's been fine, cats haven't set it off yet in the middle of the night and when I was testing it in the day time cars and people on the road didn't set it off either

      when its blinking red its waiting for you to scan the QR code to add it to your system. make sure you have a sync module 2 as well, bc it should be very simple to add from the app.

    I'm grandfathered in so it made sense to try this out, and a brief correction: The doorbell can be powered by the doorbell transformer in some cases, we aren't running on battery all the time.
    I initially set up inside without connecting the doorbell to anything, but told it that it was wired, it gave me a "Not enough power, so the doorbell will run on AA and get two years of life" message. I reset it and set it up again properly wired, this time the message tells me that it will run on doorbell power.
    Unfortunately this makes some of the limitations of the system even more annoying, as we are still limited by a system developed with power saving first even though I am able to supply power. Nonetheless, it shouldn't be wasting batteries, which is a nice treat.

    • @LifeHackster
      @LifeHackster  2 роки тому

      Have you tried removing the batteries while it is wired in? I tried with my doorbell transformer and even 2 AC adapters made to power up video doorbells like Ring and Nest and they don't power up the doorbell when the batteries are out.

    • @thedave1771
      @thedave1771 2 роки тому +1

      @@LifeHackster No, I haven't. I expect it is similar to the solar mount, where it still requires batteries and may sip a bit of power from them. My guess is that this extends the life from the expected 9-24 months to enough years that the cheap hardware will crap out and die first, otherwise they would be setting a "expect to replace the batteries, but not very often" expectation.
      But the fact that there is a different screen in the setup process at all indicates that they're doing something with the voltage. Screenshots of both setups available.

      @@thedave1771 - I double checked Blink's website and in their FAQs - the first one, it says that the doorbell is still powered by the 2 lithium batteries even when wired. So, I don't think it can split the power from the transformer and save the battery life - support.blinkforhome.com/en_US/blink-video-doorbell/blink-video-doorbell-faq

      If you have doorbell wiring at your front door, then go with "wired" like Ring's wired video doorbell (affordable).
