Hi Les, I was given 3 rynchostylis gigantea flasked seedlings recently and your post has been invaluable! Thank you. I now have 3 very healthy little plants. I have now ordered an Angraecum equitans from your website.....I look forward for more you tube help from your good self......I will need it as I am a complete novice!
Wow, wish I'd seen this sooner. I just ordered a flask of cattleya chocolate drop. Didn't know it was going to be soooo long before blooms. Thank you for the video, its very helpful.
Excªente la manera en que realiza todo el procedimiento, usted se dedica a la venta de estas especies o tiene un sitio donde las adquiere?, felicitaciones hermoso video!
...i am deflasking now🤗. . .thanks for this video guide... (my phals are big so needed to break the jar. . .i like your flask/box - easy to deflask) mi
I see you've taken down your website which is a shame. I know you blame the illegal imports to the UK, but isn't there a way for you to survive ? You've obviously got a great deal of knowledge and experience and it's a shame to let that go to waste.
Dear Les, Would you please give me the names of the growing medium, sterilizer and untifungus you use? I have ordered the seeds and I'd like to prepare the all stuff I would need. I need to buy all these, but I don't know the names to search where I can buy. The only thing I have bought till now is agar-agar. Please help me further?
I have a plant and after the flowers died I just left the stem. All of a sudden one day a new plant started growing. It is probably 6 months old now and big leaves and more coming and still on the mothers stem. What do I do?
Susan Cooper its a keiki or baby....its cloned itself -wait til it establishes good roots- around 6 or 7 good roots and cut it from the mother plant and pot it in orchid moss. Miss orchid girl has a video on how to remove keikis/ babies from mother plant without damaging the mother.
Hi Ben 2 of my videos on this channel show how to sow the seeds. It depends on whether they are from a seed pod which has split open or if it's 'sealed' and still green, both methods are shown on here. The medium is available in dry form as a 'kit' including the medium and the agar to set it from our site - link in video description Onced mixed you need to sterilise it in flasks in an autoclave or pressure cooker OR buy the ready to use tubes to sow your seeds in - also requiring sterilising
Hi, l am truing to grow orchids from seed, and l need your help, please can you help me? l have so many cushions, l love orchids l have around 20 orchid plants, and l did first time pollination and they seem to be doing great. next step l am very scared, l never deed seed germination, would you help me please?
hi there mate im just about to try flasking my seeds could you tell me the best way to either make agar jelly suitable for orchids for where I could buy it , many thanks ben
Hi, Keep them nice and moist and for the first 2 weeks put a clear lid on them to keep up the humidity, after that just keep the compost just damp but not wet
donna ford You can certainly try but be prepared to loose some!. Initially young seedlings benefit from the extra moisture from the peat but it will become acidic and may start to dissolve the delicate roots - it may do - not it will do. The only way to find out is to experiment. The Pleione germinated seeds worked well and were growing nicely but I lost them to a dry spell :(
Today I thought about that question and also thought it would not be a good idea because the roots can grow to the pot and I will lose at lot of roots.
Ok so, after 5 weeks you replant until when? The replant again at how many weeks, or can you just germinate them in a larger container then plant them in peat moss?
donna ford Hi Donna, You are taking elements from different videos and splicing them! The ones with the peat were Pleione seeds that were germinated and then the protocorms were put on peat as an EXPERIMENT. The ones in this video have been grown from seed, then replanted/replated (not sure if it's once or twice or even 3 times) but their final flask is what I am deflasking in this video in to pots. Normally germinated orchid seed are transferred to agar medium to grow on first
Hi Les, I'm not sure of when I should take them out of the flask. Did this experiment work? Can I leave them in their original flask, let them get size then put them in peat moss or after 5 months transfer them into some more agar medium? I watch your videos over and over taking notes on how to transfer them from the agar but not sure of the time frames. Thanks so much Les for your advance....Well back to my lesson with you.
donna ford since each orchid has a different growth rate, the time frame from when you deflask them varies. The general rule of thumb is ~2cm leaf length and ~2cm rooth length. If the seedlings are of that size it is "safe" to deflask them.

When you say "give them a good drink" how much water do you recommend? Enough to make the potting moderately moist? 50 mls?
