calling a 1 second gap in 100m a "9% difference" just seems funny. 1 second is an absolute eternity in the 100m. for perspective, the GREATEST WOMAN OF ALL TIME, running her BEST RACE EVER...wouldn't have even made it past the 1st round of qualifications at this year's men's Olympics.
Forget about qualifying for the olympics. The greatest woman of all time would lose to high schoolers. Edit: The top middle school 100m record for males is better than the women's WORLD record. Flo would lose to a 13 year old male.
@@jasonk1891 youtube is strange today xD. I've got a notification about your comment, but I can't read it in this thread. I hope, I will get it tomorrow
With this kind of statistics, I think a much more meaningful way to put it in perspective is to look at what would be the ranking of the women's record within the men's performances. For example, the 100m record of 10.49 is ranked 6350, meaning that 6349 men have gone faster than that. If you take only this year's performances, it has been beaten by 799 men.
@@J89-n1z A study in the Journal of Applied Physiology found that men had an average of 26 lbs. (12 kilograms) more skeletal muscle mass than women. Women also exhibited about 40 percent less upper-body strength and 33 percent less lower-body strength, on average. That's facts.
I thought that the longer the run, the smaller the difference, but with a 24-hour run, we have a significant gap again (men have a record of 303.506 km, women 259.991, which is a difference of 16.7%).
The longer the run the larger the difference obviously (maybe not in percentage, but in time ofc) Example logic: If you ran 20 m with usain Bolt you might be tied but if you run 100m you're bound to lose.
@@malharjajoo7393 The problem is that comparing numerical values is pointless. From the percentage difference you can draw conclusions (for example: the difference decreases with the distance), and from the absolute values we will only learn that the longer the distance, the longer runners run.
I thought longer distances would be alot closer. Man men really do seem to have most of the physical advantage. I guess women are less likely to drown.
I thought there was some evidence of the gap closing for extremely long distances e.g. over many days. Also seems to accord with archaeological evidence records showing more females survived famine periods.
@@malharjajoo7393 the reason why I'd expect the margin to shrink on longer runs is because apparently women have better endurance. Really, search it on google. Now, Idk what the hell studies they made, because they brought men and women with "similar athletisism". But with the same training, men are faster and stronger all the time, so if they have similar bodies, it means the men were less trained.
@@Siriuss96 women are better at gymnastics and dancing (specially Cuban dance and salsa) and acting too. Women are more emotional and expressive, plus we’re better at pretending, we are more flexible (pure biology), we have more control of our bodies and have a better pulse. Ok man, accept men aren’t better than women at everything.
Women are doing great. Given equal opportunity they can compete, If you know history, womens are mostly treated as 2nd class citizens across the civilization, this era gave them opportunity to compete and they are doing fantastic
You can't argue with Biology no matter how much equality we push for. Testosterone gives men that advantage since we produce more than women, we have greater muscle mass and bone density compared to females. That's why athletes who transition from male to female have to medicate to keep Testosterone levels down when competing in female sports but it's still the same because those athletes still dominate despite the medication because their muscles and bones have developed fully male characteristics which is still unfairly advantageous to them.
Why do most people in these comments think they're so smart pointing out the fact males perform better in track & field. We all know.. its biology. There is no need to undermine these women for there results and saying things like "these women wouldn't even qualify for high school meets". And hey I am a guy myself and i respect these athletes they train so hard and they deserve all the fame and glory!
We aint undermining or lessening the female performances at all. We R merely tryin 2 point out that it is ABSOULTELY UNFAIR that Trans Identifying Men (XY-combos), in FAR to many occasions are allowed 2 compete with Women (XX-combos)
10% isn't little what so ever. The guy who came 8th in the 100 meters would actually beat the world record of women. One of my friends who is not a professional by any means ran 100 meters in 10.95 seconds and they still considered him very far away from competing in men's racing
Am I missing something here? There is one record for the 10k and another for the 10,000 meter. That's the same distance. Is that like an indoor vs. outdoor thing?
It’s highly likely that Flo-Jo’s 100m wr was actually wind assisted but there was an issue with the equipment leading to no reading being recorded. Hence, the record being ratified when it should not have been.
The difference for 400m is even more when you consider that record was set by Koch and no one has come within reasonable striking distance since. The difference between 1st and 8th in the men’s Olympic 100m final is 1-2%.
Some studies shown that men's testosterone levels have been declined for decades. And also in a grip strength study the average man and woman could apply the same force but the gap was much larger before. Testosterone levels decrease muscle mass and bone strength if this keeps continuing will women be stronger than men?
Also even among average men, men are more likely to be physical active as boys and do some heavy lifting. Women can also do heavy lifting (sure men can lift heavier stuff). Depending on a women weight. For dead lift an untrained 97lb can deadlift about 55lb. Idk about carrying, but I say untrained women who weighed about 137lbs can carry more then a women who weighs 95. If both male and female at a young age were physically active on equal levels, women also did some heavy lifting*, were train to be just as competitive and did maul labor jobs, men will still be stronger, but 15-30% stronger in upper. *still can’t deny biology. Depending on how much a woman weights and whatever she is small, medium or large is how much she can carry. Just typing in how much can a women carry on google image shows you a charter.
@@Robohead-z6zwell, nowadays more girls do stuff like working as mechanics, plumbers, construction workers, in the military etc... and more guys work on their pc. The difference is noticable but it's less than in the past mostly because men don't need to rely on strength as much for everyday life. Besides usually men are in worse shape than women because women need to be thin to fit beuty standards, men aren't pushed as much so they can afford being chubby (not that being slim makes you stronger, in fact an overweight person will probably lift more but i think that the average dude isn't into fitness like people believe, lf course gym bros will think men are the shit but most guys will be out of breath with a sprint)

@Alfie Green There should be no gender split? It is not a fraction! There are more than 10% difference in records in nearly all of the categories! When you look at the record, you don't just look at the absolute value. You gotta look at the percentage difference! There is clearly an immense physical difference between men and women.
@Alfie Green For 100m dash (Olympic record), it's early-3% difference between the world men record and the Asian men record and near 14% difference between men and women records - more than 10% difference which is astronomical. Moreover, It's not about the absolute distance between the records. Instead, you need to see the mean and variance of each gender group to gauge their distributions. While the Asian group's mean, though lower than the overall mean, still fall closely around the overall mean, while the women's average is so much more distant from the overall mean in terms of standard deviation... to the point it's not even a competition. Most importantly, women are biologically different from men, and women's physical capabilities are limited in many aspects including strength. While the difference Asians and blacks are mostly around muscle and skeletal development (impacted by thousands of years of eating habits and environmental differences), women have fundamentally different body organs form men. Should we still combine men and women? Well, it's up to the athletic committees. If they want to ignore biology and push for 'equality', well then it's their choice. But I can guarantee that the world won't see any woman (without genetic mutation or steroids) winning 1st place against men side by side for centuries or even millennia to come.
@Alfie Green Again, you need to take into account the standard deviation, not just the absolute percentage difference. Let's take a look at 2016 (the most recent olympics) 100m men's dash. The records during the prelim and round 1 tend to underestimate the player's true skills - as the best players don't exert their fullest abilities (for instance, Bolt's record was 10.07 during the round 1) - so I excluded those records. I only counted the ones from semi-finals and finals. There were total of 22 samples - you may argue that that is not enough to assume normal distribution but it was the best sample I could easily retrieve. The average of those 22 samples was 10.0436 with standard deviation of 0.10261. Meanwhile, the best women's record, NOT the average(!), was only 10.49 (more than 4 S.D!). It's nowhere close to the men's average from the standard deviation perspective. The best record for the Chinese in 2016 Olympics was 10.08 - which easily falls under 1 S.D of men's average record. So statistically speaking, there is an astronomical difference between men and women. Having said that... besides the statistical argument, the more compelling argument for gender separation would be their physical differences - whether that be body shape or hormones. For instance, despite the sports bra, women still have to run with extra pounds on their chest - which may impact their performances significantly enough to catching up to men's record nearly impossible. It's up to the athletic committees to decide whether it would be fair to have men and women compete against one another side by side. But if they choose to merge 2 genders under the reason of gender equality, (according to the 2016 records) we wouldn't be seeing a single women even in the semi-finals.
I LOVE women. I love everything about them. I love our differences and our similarities. There's no better feeling in the world than participating in life with my wife. I open jars and lift heavy shit. We participate equally in our sense of humor, our values, and our general outlook on life. My wife is completely capable of dropping an elk with a rifle but you can bet your ass you know who's dragging it out. We understand our roles and are happier because of it.
I learned 2 things from this video. 1. People would rather ask "WhY iS 5K lIsTeD tWiCe" or "5000 = 5K" and not read that half the comments are answered saying one is for running on a track, the other is for running on road. The times are different, it obviously isn't a mistake. 2. The difference in these appears to be about 10.5% (with a few exceptions) and some variation based on how popular an event is. It is likely that the more popular an event, the closer you will get to that amount.
Il est à noter qu'en ce qui concerne les courses où il y avait les écarts les plus importants, les records féminins ont très largement progressé depuis la parution de cette vidéo, ce qui a significativement modifié le rapport avec les records masculins.
Look online... Women will lift maybe a bit more than half of what guys can at max, but the best women will probably beat the kid thinking he's playing hero and only lift weights in his Dreamland
@@JajajaAhhaha-t2f if we take this fairly for the women, at the same weight class (because men can get much bigger in size) men lift quiet a bit more for total (snatch and C&J) the men record at 55kg is 294, women need to be at least 87kg to lift the same amount, that's basically the smallest possible men lifting the same amount as the largest women this shows that men at the same size and with the same training (we can assume world champions all train a lot, men and women) can lift far far more just because their muscles and bones are built different if we consider the average man is not the same size as the average woman then men are at least twice as strong on average
stronger and more defined muscles all around basically. and a stronger skeleton. Men have a all around stronger body structure wich helps them to take a lot more damage to their bodies. Men on average are also taller then women. And men are generally speaking also more competitive by nature. Wich makes them want to win just a little harder. Again this is Usually speaking. There is always exeptions. There is some strong women out there. But when you even out the odds, men will win in any sport almost all the time.

@@ethanwhite6722 Referring to Flo Jo's 10.49 being massively wind-aided. The legitimate WR should actually be the next best performance-also Flo-Jo's at 10.61s- it was actually in those same trials but with the wind gauge fully functioning. Carmelita Jeter's 10.64 is the next best athlete but not the second best performance - Flo Jo has the top 3 performances ever (10.49/10.61/10.62). The scientific papers looking into that race showed the wind was somewhere between 5 - 7 m/s using all the data from Flo-Jo herself and all the other runners in that race. The official position of the IAAF remains that the race was 'probably wind aided but still stands as the official WR' because there was a wind gauge at the event. It does seem that 10.49 might actually be outside the realms of achievement for unenhanced female athletes, as the best over the last 40 years have stalled at around 10.7s (basic) with the legal wind taking it down to potentially about 10.6
I think that the more upper body strength that is needed, the bigger difference there is. Seen in pole vault, but moreso in weight lifting. An example, bench press. Men:1400 lbs Women: 700. 100% difference.
And you can imagine the compound effect these differences play in sports that involve multiple of these different skills. For example basketball involves jumping, stamina, explosive speed and accuracy. Let’s say that there is a 20% difference between men and women’s jump, 20% in stamina, 11% in explosive speed and 10% in accuracy, that would compound to a 61% difference in basketball. Most sports would involve hundreds of these different skills that would all compound to create the skill gaps we see in sports.
That's not how it works. Let's say a sport is made up of 10 different skills that are equally important. Every skill is 10% of your total skill at the game. If you make a 10% difference in a skill like jumping, that's only 10% of the game, so 10% of 10% gain which is 1%.
@@suckieduckie That's not how it works either though, because let's say you're playing basketball or soccer. If you're 10% slower to every ball, then you win 0% of all 50/50 balls, and only get the ball when you start off much closer to it.
@@sebfox2194 Basketball maybe, but in soccer it's just not the case because not every player needs to win aerial duels. Lionel Messi has only ever won a handfull of aerial duels and only scored a few headed goals, but he's easily the best player of all time. Being 10% slower to every ball is not speed, it's timing. In the Netherlands a player (Daley Blind) just retired and he was known for being very slow which is not good as a defender, but his timing was good enough to compensate.
@suckieduckie I never mentioned aerial duals. I was talking about speed. Of course, timing and positioning matter in soccer, but it's still a fact that if you're 10% slower to every 50/50 ball, then you don't win any 50/50 balls. Slower players compensate not by winning 50/50 balls but with positioning and teamwork to put themselves in an advantageous position to win the ball later. Moreover, it's not just speed. If you're 10% slower, 20% weaker in jumps and acceleration, and 20-50% weaker in strength and power, it makes a massive difference to your game. This is why elite boys aged 15+ generally beat elite women in soccer. And this is also why elite men, who still have elite skills, have to retire once their physical abilities decline to the level where they can no longer compete physically with younger players. Messi is athletic and has much faster acceleration and change of direction than most players. So, he is physically competitive in the men's game. However, when he is 45, he won't be playing elite men's soccer anymore, despite the fact that he'd still have elite skills, because he won't be physically competitive at that age. He'd likely still be good enough to dominate the women's game at 45, but he will have to retire from the mens game, because your athleticism and physical capabilities are indeed important in soccer.
This clearly shows that, however, competing in sports for men and women does not make sense. This duel is uneven from the very beginning. And fights for women and men are pathological. We are different and we have different abilities, and more and more we are told that we are the same. My children, when they fall off the fence, run to their mother, and if you have to climb onto him, they run to me. I wonder why?
I remember in high school, I ran the mile. The time for boys to qualify for sectionals was 4:50. It was 5:50 for girls. Over 20% slower. And totally unfair when you’d see girls having double the field size in mid distance races because of their cake standards
Some events, like those run in the Olympics, are commonly and regularly run all over the world. Some of the events listed here are not competed as often and therefore can produce wildly different results based on one off performances. Secondly, these are comparisons of records rather than just say comparing the performances of a broad swath of elite males and females. If you take Olympic running events only in any Olympics and compare the cumulative times of the 2nd through 6th place finishers you will see a very consistent representation of the differences between men and women. Why 2nd through 6th? Well, obviously they are elite if they are in an Olympic Final. Drop the 1st time to rule out one exceptional performance that skews the results like Florence Griffith-Joyner in 1988 or Usain Bolt. FloJo's 1988 record has stood for 36 years and skewed the comparison between men and women. It is also very suspect for a few reasons. Only recently did Jamaica's Elaine Thompson-Herah come relatively close to Flo-Jo. Drop the 7th and 8th place finishers because someone could pull a hammy and run 20 plus seconds in the 100 thereby skewing the results in an unrealistic fashion. Or some runner could get DQ'd and there would only be seven in the race to begin. And a runner could be well back at the 50 meter mark and just pull up off the gas. As far as that goes if the leader in the race is well ahead at 70 or 80 meters in a 100 meter race they will frequently take their foot off the gas which skews the results. Compare 2nd through 6th at an Olympic Final and you will get a true representation of the difference between men and women at the elite level. Those results tend to show something like an 11% difference at almost any distance.
it is probably one of two things. 1. The pool is so small, you don't have enough to depth really draw out the potential. 2. It is such an extreme distance that the biological difference fades and it becomes a training difference. I am leaning more towards option A but you can't really rule out B.
I almost agree with it. I say almost only because absolutely no body has ever been close to beating the men’s record Usain is a class of his own where as Elaine (whether legitimate or not) does have flo jo’s record still in front of her. And I think Elaine’s record will be brought down way sooner than Bolts.

For example, the 100m record of 10.49 is ranked 6350, meaning that 6349 men have gone faster than that.

The longer the run the larger the difference obviously (maybe not in percentage, but in time ofc)
Example logic:
If you ran 20 m with usain Bolt you might be tied but if you run 100m you're bound to lose.
Biological males also have more efficient respiratory system, which is huge advantage in endurance sports

Because there’s this whole thing going on about men and woman being equal and that you can change between them
Gets the facts.
Because some seem to think there are no physical differences between men and women. There are many. We are not completely equal.
These figures are for top athletes against top athletes. I bet that the gap is even bigger when comparing average people. .
Some studies shown that men's testosterone levels have been declined for decades. And also in a grip strength study the average man and woman could apply the same force but the gap was much larger before. Testosterone levels decrease muscle mass and bone strength if this keeps continuing will women be stronger than men?
Not really. The average speed of a men is 8mph and women 6.5.

And in 99% of games, women can't beat men, that's a fact.
And these world records are between different men and women in almost every case. That says a lot.

The GAP is just outrageous !
Quite consistent. Almost surprisingly so.
And, of course, the pole vault is now up to 6.25 as of the Olympics (from 6.18) because Armando is an animal!
Can someone explain the relatively small difference in 100 kilometers?
it is probably one of two things.
1. The pool is so small, you don't have enough to depth really draw out the potential.
2. It is such an extreme distance that the biological difference fades and it becomes a training difference.
I am leaning more towards option A but you can't really rule out B.
What is the conclusion boys
Hopefully further study can be made.
@@PJPKPENGKALAN looking for it 🤝
@@PJPKPENGKALAN based and neutrality pilled
That women and men should compete separately which is the case in "99.999%" of todays competitions. The exceptions just confirms the rule.....
i wonder what is the difference between 5000m and 5km competitions and there is 18 seconds difference between 2 competitions ???!
what the hell, same 10km and 10000m !
@@Cmustang22 Metres in stadium (track), kms outside stadium (road run).
Pole vault is now way bigger!
These percentages are wrong! It shouldn't be based on the time difference, but the distance covered in that time🤦
In schools our kids are being told there’s no difference between m and w ….
Weird kind of schools then. I guess you found that fact while reaching in your buttocks cavity.
There is a mistake in this numbers. 20,000m and 20km is the same. Because 1km = 1,000m.
M in stadium (track), KM outside stadium (road run).
Now the beer drinking World record
this video needs to change the title to run records and not athletic records* The title is very vague.
Are they not athletic records😊
Women should just be like ok I get it....lol
What a Woman said after watch that video :oh men, I'm jealous of u! (never better said.)
People got up in arms when I say Elaine Thompson's 10.54 is better than Usain Bolt's 9.58sec in the 100m.
I almost agree with it. I say almost only because absolutely no body has ever been close to beating the men’s record Usain is a class of his own where as Elaine (whether legitimate or not) does have flo jo’s record still in front of her. And I think Elaine’s record will be brought down way sooner than Bolts.
Better how? Slower = better?
That women's 100m record is false as it was wind-aided.
Thank's!
One thing women is very close to men is mental calculation
Whoever made this must’ve not realized that 1km is 1000m
Meters in stadium (track), km's outside stadium (road run).
@@PJPKPENGKALANMust be boring and exhausting to answer the same ignorant question so many times. 😂
Better at everything xd
Except for giving birth and making ham and cheese sandwiches. And the laundry. And sweeping floors. And folding clothes. And child care.
A strong loving woman at home to take care of the children.... you got to be a strong man away from the home.
@@CelticSpiritsCoven these are rather arbitrary. No one can gauge who’s better at what regarding these things. Some just flat out don’t make sense Like giving birth? Men can’t birth at all so there’s nothing to be “better at” in the scenario.
don't be saying that stuff karma always hits hard- ._.
@@CelticSpiritsCoven I can literally do all of those except from give birth plus this is sports related so all of that stuff is relevant lmfao
@@xxitactical_8723 You don't have the patience to raise children like a woman does. And everyone knows it.
Women are good in gymnastics though...
The testosterone gives us an extra edge
No man under 1,80 ever made time under 10 sec, The Females records did better than Percy Williams(who set world record once) or Reggie Walker(they are both 1,7m and made 10,8 sec). Usain Bolt is the tallest 1,95. There are highly selected phenotype in male circuits---> In Bolt's race there wasn't a single white or short man. If you see female circuits it's a diversity. Women obtain more Uni Degree than men, less desertion, higher notes, Few of them in athletic sport pursue it for wellbeing.
I didnt know 5000m and 5km had different records...
one is for track the other is for road.
I don't understand the difference between 5,000m & 10,000m VS 5K &10K. WTH?

The best times is only about 10% but the averages should have more of a difference
Well, yeah, the avarage man is better than the avatage women by a lot (also taller) by strength alone. But the avrage American is also obese compared to the eruropean or japanese man. Avarage is useful but doesn't tell a full picture like fitness level and stuff
The average of what? The whole of humanity? Where do you draw the line?

Women are far closer in speed than strength to men.
I was expecting it to be much bigger gap
Women are better at ultra marathons (distances over 195 miles), which is interesting because it's what humans in general are best at (physically speaking) among mammals
They aren't. See Badwater as an example.
@@danielszalok8540 Badwater's 135, I said over 195
Overall, men are better at short distance races, women definitely win at long distance races.
@@ILike_Roses01 but they don't 🙂
hmmm seems like there is a pattern over here.. hmmmm
They should put the woman’s fastest time… and what place the men’s got with that time in that event
In the 100m the women's world record of 10.49s puts you 7,599th in the official men's rankings.
