If we're looking for an in-depth problems when it comes to Solo Leveling, both the Manwah & especially the Anime adaptations can be summed up this way - 1.) Sung Jin-Woo is an unrelatable, unsympathetic, and fundamentally unlikable character. Yes he has "tasted death" dozens of times as "the weakest hunter" but that isn't relevant to his character development until the closing chapters and his cheat-skill saps any level of suspense out of all fights moving forward. This is a problem in particular with Korean "Divine warrior" / "Ascent to godhood" pieces. It does not help that in Manhwa there is an ocean worth of them. 2.) "What are stakes?"/"I'm the only special one" - For the Manwah readers, you know exactly what this is about and how much of its corresponding tropes are done better elsewhere (Timey wimey bullshit/multiverse/rebirth-by-death ect.) The "I'm the only special one" trope is infinitely more suited for comedy. This tends to be true for power fantasies in general. 3.) Supporting cast is irrelevant. It fails both the bechdel test & the cardboard cutout tests. That is, the vast majority of background characters could be replaced by either a literal lamp or a cardboard cutout that says "person here" and it wouldn't fundamentally change the story. This remains relevant in the final chapters as the Monarchs & the rulers hardly (as in Don't) change the stakes or meaningfully interact/alter with the world around them. 4.) It's boring. No matter how good the animation & artwork are, when there are no stakes, you need a tv-tropes bingo card to liven up reading/watching, and the characters are as close to one dimensional as is possible without going over what are you supposed to do with a piece of media?

I hate it when the created universe gives the main character everything he wants. The so-called main character suffers. He loses his limbs. Then something happens and the main character is not affected by anything, both psychologically and physically. There is zero character development. The universe was created for the character. It is annoying that the main character is given special treatment, unfortunately this situation exists in almost every anime.Another garbage anime.I like side characters more in anime. They really try to improve themselves. They are not treated like main characters, which makes them realistic.

1000x worse ngl. i watched 3 episodes of SAO in my friend house since they have wifi and that 3 episodes is more enjoyable than entire Solo Leveling Manhwa/Anime.
Anyone who completes the hidden quest in first episode can get those powers if If some one else completed the quest before they would have gotten the powers instead
From what I heard is true the anime is starting to decline in popularity and most people are starting to drop it plus the fanboys are not helping since they go around parsing it is like a gift from the heavens and attacking every one that doesn't give this serious 10
Because a show is “well animated” doesn’t automatically make it good and can we go back to having the main character train over the course of the series instead of just being super powerful from the start

Watched first 2 episodes and then lost interest. Feels so shallow and was just over hyped. Tried reading the manhwa as well and fell asleep. There are always better options out there. This one is just so-so.
I mean this whole ranking video game story line thing is stupid, Like main character is always weak and suffers, but oh guess what, out of nowhere they become the most powerful person in the world, so you literally force a character to suffer like if he was a ragdoll , which usually is how villians are made but are blessed with power, which they dont even earn, so yeah your average piece of trash anime where anime fans will praise because its anime, there is no saving anime at this point or neither its fans
Ik I am making a second comment but anime was dying around the 2010s. In 2015 it has officially died. Now it’s a rotten corpse infested by the maggots that are the fans who only eat the rot.
Summed up beautifully. Gone are the anime when it used to be about great charcter and about making well rounded story. Solo leveling was really successful manwha, to be honest I have to break a lance for the Manwha, the character are not great, all the buildup leads nowhere, but but, it was hype as fuck, the manwha was really hype, its all it had for itself, so an anime adaptation of that is going to be as good in that aspect as the manwha is, and so far (i'm at ep 3) the animation and the dub voice acting in my language has been really good. So yea, its a fun watch, its like a decent 6 or 7 at best, it isn't painfully bad to watch, its great slop, hope they don't adapt the whole thing cus the story gets so bad its actually annoying to read/watch for how fucking terrible it is, specially the absolutely awful ending. I don't want to sound like an elitist, but this season there are like 3 good non sequel shows: Dungeon Meshi, Signs of Affection (if you are into romance), Metallic Rouge (I still have to watch this one to confirm that lol) so if you are into watching stuff as it comes out, it is a real option even if its slop.
Cut me some break, everything new now generates hype. The sad part is the bar is so low people will hype for shittiest content today, it just goes to show how much taste of people have fallen.

but those who do know perfectly that shows aren't trying to be original, they're just following typical overused formulas. Consider this fact as an "easy money" method more than art, that's the problem
@@VidsFromATree Originality will always show up if you imagine just a bit. it's not the troupe. It's about how every element is used on your story. There are many comic creators i know that use common tropes, but in there own original ways, creating unique and likable characters, not just the protagonist. The ways they interact with there own world. The ways of making a plot natural and interesting and the same time. Sadly, this is the reason of why they aren't popular creators, because people tend to like what they already know. That's a shame. There are many yet unknown stories that are extremely well wirtten, easily awaiting to mindblow anyone. But that's it. The majority prefer the repetetive for some reason. What is already known can be easily be as commercial af, which helps the story to reach more and more people. Remember: Great marketing isn't the same as good art.

Manhwa ripoff Manga ngl there some trash manga too, nothing special about Manhwa just copy cat of manga, American comic (except woke trash) and French comics are more intriguing compared to manhwa and manhua.
Nope, they didn't rip off Manga, it has its own culture/thropes, artstyle and format, if anything the Manwha industry is known for ripping itself off, you will find it hard to find a single Manwha with more than a 100 chapters that has anything original in it that isn't derivative of other manwha, solo leveling itself is a ripoff of an older korean novel. Basically, Japanese manga fantasy usually is derivative of old dnd and specially dragon quest Korean Manwha fantasy is usually just Maginobi which is the worst mmo ever made but korean gamers love terrible online games xd. Basically fantasy manwhas tend to ask the question "what if maginobi was actually easy and you didn't had to try making a potion 1000 times in a row to get a success rate of 5% going but instead the main character is actually broken and can grind all his stats and skills by just doing them a couple of times" Chinese Manhua usually is just Wuxia and the other one i don't remember the name that also uses some taoist and buddist powerlevel system of cultivation and stuff but instead does it in a modern setting outside of chinese mythology that also revolves with the mc getting stupidly strong If anything i wish Manwha and Manhua copied manga more cus there is a clear lack of variety, mangas also ripoff each other a lot, but you are more likely to find an original setting in mangas than manwhas, probably one of the very few manwhas i actually think are 10/10 is Hellper which relied in korean manwha tropes but used them well to craft something mostly original and interesting
I agree with your statement, just not your take. The manwha and light novel were actually pretty good, but the anime did not do it justice. Part of the problem is the team who made it are from japan where as the manwha (obviously) was made in korea. In order to bring it to a larger audience, the team was forced to make some "localization" efforts which really detracted from the overall story. Plus the coldest scene of the beginning chapters (that statue dude's creepy ah smile) was dropped in the middle of Ep 2. If that had been the cliffhanger for Ep 1, I think people who haven't read the manwha would have stuck around to watch more. Other than that, a few of the lines were changed completely and they added random bits of lore that don't occur until much later at the very start. I understand why they did it (films and tv shows need to be more condensed than their book counterparts) but they really ruined the whole flow with a random scene of Jinwoo's sister at school, as well as randomly introducing us to the leader of the white tiger guild. I have yet to see where they are going with this, so maybe they can turn it around. The first few episodes are what everyone is going to remember, though. I understand seeing it as a basic shonen, and I would agree that's probably true. There's a few minor differences between the two though, and the writer loves to poke fun at it every now and then. Plus, there's the added twist of this isekai occuring in our world, instead of some made up fantasy where the MC has never known anyone and has no prior commitment to protecting it. In a way, it makes the story more relatable. What would you do in this situation? You would probably also be the same weak ass dude going up against unknowable dangers. And at the end of the day, let's face it. Shonens work. Same reason people watch dragon ball, or one piece, or bleach. People love watching some weak ass dude become incredibly OP while upholding his core values. Except here, Jinwoo doesn't just stay in his "ninja way". His development progresses and regresses, and even if it wasn't the deepest thing to watch (slowly losing his emotions, and eventually getting them back) it still felt like the character had something going for him. Also need I remind you the show is called "solo leveling". There will be some close friends he makes along the way, but the focus is always around him. Sorry for making an essay while glazing on the manwha, but your description is equally as long with a few fallacies such as "beats everyone he encounters" due to bad writing. Bro does not beat everyone, and yes the bullshit luck is part of it. But since its based on some regular ass dude, I don't mind it. There are a few foes he loses completely to, and one where he (SPOILERS) dies. He learns from these mistakes, and because he got lucky (and thus not ending the show) he goes on to improve and evolve. That's just my 10 minute take to a 12 minute video, though.
@@goodlooser3156 I don't mind you calling it mid. Also, if simply getting op things out of nowhere was something very bad that animes should't do, I expect you to critcize death note for giving a book that can kill anyone you write his name on it to a random study that turns out to be our protagonist✅ Saying that that the animation is mid without giving any reason why whatsoever ✅ not an objective quality of the fights, boredom is a subjective qualyfier serious critics do not use ✅ not even justifying why it is the same story we have already seen and probably justifying it on a fallacy of composition (it has generic elements therefore anything inside of it is generic). not justifying why side characters are one dimensional, considering that they have their own traumas and personal problems as a result of the main event of the characters, which rule out the fact that they are one dimensional (you probably do not even know what one dimensional even is) ✅ you consider than introducing elements that appear in a lot of other series determines wether a show is generic or not: by your definition every show that feature humans, buildings and dialogues would be generic, so dumb ✅ you consider that the overarching topics of the story are the things that determine its value, so something that uses the same formula would be depicted as useless since have already watched it and well, nothing more than the main formula matters, so every other element in which two stories differ wouldn't matter, since by just having the same formula in common they would both already be qualyfied as "the same thing" by you. By that definition you would be equating Harry Pother with the odiseyy and Kung Fu Panda, because the three of them follow the hero's journey. Atomic 🤦♂🤦♂🤦♂🤦♂, just because a show features a power fantasy and an underdog story does not render it redundant (just by the mere counterexample that i've given you that would be the case) ✅ You also talk a lot about edginess without: a) specifying what definition you are even using of the term, because it is a lazy and ambiguos term (just like you) b) specifying WHY the things in question would enter this cathegory and c) specifying why it would be bad in the first place✅ you do not even justify why having the same overarching structure regarding battles would make it generic: again, a case of fallacy of composition.✅ they hunt things = OMG THEY COPIED HXH ✅ you say that the intro is generic and you not only avoid justifying that but you also proceed to cite something that is not generic at all 💀✅ Serious rant: You criticize how he could kill a dungeon monster alone when it was a C rank boss and he had been constantly getting rewards from his previous training that should at least have repositioned him one rank above its original rank, which in adition to the dozens of monsters (OF HIS SAME RANK AT THAT POINT) he killed in the dungeon should have necessarily repositioned him in the C or B rank💀💀💀💀 it is even more obvious when you see who the titles of the monsters start changing color, showing you exactly why he was able to kill the snake at the end: HE LEVELED UP HIS RANK CONSTANTLY BY KILLING OF THE MONSTERS IN THE DUNGEON LITERALLY ALONE, EVEN THE TITLE OF THE SERIES ALLUDES TO THIS, HOW CAN SOMEONE BE SO BRAINDEAD. THE MAIN PURPOSE OF HIM BEING CONSTANTLY TOSSED AROUND BY THE SNAKE HAD THE LITERAL PURPOSE TO SHOW HOW, EVEN THOUGH HE GOT CONSIDERABLY STRONGER, HE STILL CONSIDERED HIMSELF WEAK: HE HAS BEEN WEAK FOR LITERALLY HIS ENTIRE LIFE, SO IT MAKES SENSE THAT THIS FAKE NOTION HE HAD DEVELOPED STOPPED HIM FROM USING HIS REAL POWERS, AND HENCE, DELAY THE SLAUGHTER OF THE SNAKE UP TO THE VERY END EVEN THOUGH HE HAD THE PHYSICAL CAPABILITIES TO DEAL WITH IT. Not only did this previously happen with the red wolfs, which should have already been an alert as to why was he able to kill the snake with sheer physical strength and a broken sword (he had the physical capabilites but he was mentally blocked because of his past and his ptsd about the statues that almost kill him: the dungeon was literally introduced to deal with this), BUT YOU CAN ALSO SEE HOW THE SNAKE CONSTATLY DEALS DAMAGE TO HIM AND IS UNABLE TO KILL HIM, WOULD IT BE CRAZY TO DEDUCT THAT HE WAS STRONG ENOUGH TO FIGHT IT BUT HE UNDERVALUED HIMSELF SO MUCH THAT HE WASN'T ABLE TO FULLY USE HIS GAINED STRENGTH BECAUSE OF THE MENTAL BARRIERS HE HAD TO GO THROUGH FIRST? You also said that it was stupid for him to choose to continue (considering how weak he is) to the next dungeon, when there was NO case in the entire history of the world registered about a secondary dungeon having such a level difference with the first one: based upon probabilities he had nothing to fear off, so it was logical to proceed with that. You also question why would he even have a job with the hunters if he was that weak when it is explained, in the first episode, THAT DUNGEONS HAD MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS IN REGARDS TO THE AMOUNT OF PEOPLE THAT HAD TO ENTER INTO THEM (normal dungeons, that is, not the one he soloed). It is also common sense that dungeons which are that easy would search for cheap labour that can carry their things and ocasionally help them without receiving any reward from it: that is literally what happens at ep 5. You also questioned the people who voted "no" and decided to enter either way: it seems that, for you, it is a normal human behaviour for people to abandon their collegues when they are going to embark in an even MORE DIFFICULT TASK than the one they have already accomplished, and what is worse, leave them stranded inside of the dungeon with almost HALF the amount of people as before (since, according to you, all the ones who disagreed should have left the dungeon). It makes even less sense if you consider than they are low rank adventurers who don't receive that much of a reward constantly and would have A LOT OF REASONS to leave this new dungeon completely to themselves just to not lose the potential reward. Oh, that is another reason why the MC decided to enter the dungeon: he would get a greater reward so that his sister could attend to school and he would be mostly protected by others during this task (providing that the chances of an S dungeon spawning out of nowhere), so it was a safe play for him to do so. Finally, considering that the MC is an adventurer and has greater stats than the average person, it makes sense that he was able to survive the worms for 4 hours without water: people in real life can easily achieve this, considering that you can live without water for several days. Overall this critique was HOT garbage. How can you even do this, do you have some kind of brain abnormality that leads you to producing such LAME critique material?
He's not walking or anything he's just running even the mc is a adventurer he runs around the dessert for his life the sun obviously make him dehydrate and fatigue but it's not happens it's definitely a plot armour
Opinions on solo leveling aside, what the actual fuck are you talking about with the anime industry being in a bad place. There are more anime fans than there have ever been and that’s a statistical fact and it’s because of anime like solo leveling that ends up making that the case. Not everyone wants a thought provoking tale with super high tension stakes at every turn. Some people like to turn their brain off and just enjoy something and solo leveling is enjoyable for that fact. The fights are fun and flashy to watch. I’m not even saying it’s great, but to say the anime industry is in a bad place because of it is just factually wrong.
@@KingMaad I didn’t say that it did. But, there are other plenty of high quality shows because these “trash” shows you’re talking about exist. Who knows? Also, I do not know what you’re talking about saying the animation is bad in solo leveling. It’s got nice and fluid fight scenes, good sound design, and overall pretty decent choreography. Next thing I know, you’re going to tell me Fate/Zero has terrible animation just because you think the Fate franchise is terrible or because of the weird parts of Mushoku Tensei it’s all of a sudden got no redeeming qualities to it. Anime would still be niche today if all anime shows were thought provoking exposition dumps because news flash; most people think those are boring. I love my Vinland Sagas (don’t you dare say Vinland Saga is trash because I will question your sanity and your taste) of the world and my Attack on Titans (again I will question your sanity and taste if you say Attack on Titan is bad other than the ending) of the world, but there is a place for your generic power fantasies, or your brain dead action shows. It’s what brings viewers into the industry. You do not get your Monsters of the world without your solo levelings of the world. You most certainly can have high quality shows being made without the mainstream garbage, the majority of what gets made now is mainstream slop because they make the most money. Also, animation and artstyle doesn't really matter much to me, story and characters do, I am just adding additional criticism.
@@KingMaad I’d say that’s a fair argument, but personally, I prefer it the way that it is. It makes it that much better when you find that hidden gem amongst a sea of mediocre. I personally don’t think it’s in a bad place even with some absolute garbage out there because that’s what gives the anime industry the money it needs to eventually pick up on those more niche titles and make great adaptations in the future. Now that being said, I actually am curious since I am a manga reader myself, what are some recommendations of some manga that you have. You do seem to be a man of culture and I can respect it. We will most likely agree to disagree on some anime takes, but I am always open to trying new series out
My apologies for the late response. I appreciate you being reasonable in this discussion. I will say I'm more of an anime watcher than a manga reader though lol. I see where you're coming from though and it can indeed be satisfying to find a hidden gem in this modern anime industry. Most manga I read are horror manga from junji ito so if you like that genre I'd recommend Shiver as a short story collection or Tomie as a longer format. If you don't like that genre though I'd say Death Note, that is my favorite anime as well though lol, and of course you always have Berserk.
You may not like the anime, but others and I really enjoy this series so far. It follows the classic "from the lowest rise to the top" anime trope, but the character development is impressive. "Solo Levering" also boasts detailed art and style, superior to some 3D monster anime. In my opinion, this anime is a gem and highly underrated. So relax bro.
Animating glamorous anime doesn't indicate that the anime is good. Sung Jin Woo is the epitome of edginess. Someone certainly wouldn't like to develop that way.

It should be called Easy Leveling.
If we're looking for an in-depth problems when it comes to Solo Leveling, both the Manwah & especially the Anime adaptations can be summed up this way -
1.) Sung Jin-Woo is an unrelatable, unsympathetic, and fundamentally unlikable character.

You do realise that Manhwa's are just korean Mangas just how Manga's are Japanese comics..
Basically, Japanese manga fantasy usually is derivative of old dnd and specially dragon quest
Korean Manwha fantasy is usually just Maginobi which is the worst mmo ever made but korean gamers love terrible online games xd. Basically fantasy manwhas tend to ask the question "what if maginobi was actually easy and you didn't had to try making a potion 1000 times in a row to get a success rate of 5% going but instead the main character is actually broken and can grind all his stats and skills by just doing them a couple of times"
Chinese Manhua usually is just Wuxia and the other one i don't remember the name that also uses some taoist and buddist powerlevel system of cultivation and stuff but instead does it in a modern setting outside of chinese mythology that also revolves with the mc getting stupidly strong
If anything i wish Manwha and Manhua copied manga more cus there is a clear lack of variety, mangas also ripoff each other a lot, but you are more likely to find an original setting in mangas than manwhas, probably one of the very few manwhas i actually think are 10/10 is Hellper which relied in korean manwha tropes but used them well to craft something mostly original and interesting

This anime is the best new gen anime can't wait for season 2
Even the manhwa,i found it mid.
@@goodlooser3156 I don't mind you calling it mid. It definitely wasn't my peak show of 2023, and I can see people getting bored quickly (it is 200 chapters after all, and new gens don't like reading anymore). This dude took a lighter to the community, then backed it up with a hairspray bottle. I don't appreciate being flamed for liking a genre that guess what, a lot of other people also enjoy. You can't judge a whole community based on "I'm tired of shonen". His main point was the anime, so this feels a bit ridiculous to hate on everyone else for not sharing his opinion.

I blame Sword Art Online for pioneering this corny uncool lame af whack ass "Gamers Rise Up" story telling in these mediums of comics and animation. Everyone is doing this crap.
Could you do a JoJo video, King? What about Arcane?
yo I made a jojo video awhile back, you may have to filter from oldest videos on this channel to find it, as for Arcane it's been awhile since I watched it but from what I recall I didn't think the show was trash. I know season 2 is confirmed though so maybe once that comes out I'll revisit it and make a video then.
@KingMaad I thought Arcane looked decent. My bad. I wanted to say that "gamer" movies and anime always suck for some reason. But some animated shows like Cuphead and Castlevania go hard. Cyberpunk was too edgy like Chainsaw Man edgy and it got too hammed up. But Gamer stories are so corny. Just make an adaptation already.

Not explaining why making someone overpowered is bad (unwarranted assumption) ✅
Saying that something is uninspired without even explaining 1) what the fuck are you refering to in the first place since it is an ambiguous term and 2) not justifying it ✅
Saying that the main character experiencing some events that are highly unlikely and that almost no person in existance would be able to experience (being able to level up) is bad when that is the main point of every story in existance: If we were to follow your line of reasoning and omit incredibly rare and highly unlikely events on the main character's life, we would end up with the lif of josh the farmer, who does nothing more than drive his for f500 and be with his family. Also, if simply getting op things out of nowhere was something very bad that animes should't do, I expect you to critcize death note for giving a book that can kill anyone you write his name on it to a random study that turns out to be our protagonist✅
Saying that that the animation is mid without giving any reason why whatsoever ✅
not an objective quality of the fights, boredom is a subjective qualyfier serious critics do not use ✅
not even justifying why it is the same story we have already seen and probably justifying it on a fallacy of composition (it has generic elements therefore anything inside of it is generic).
not justifying why side characters are one dimensional, considering that they have their own traumas and personal problems as a result of the main event of the characters, which rule out the fact that they are one dimensional (you probably do not even know what one dimensional even is) ✅
you consider than introducing elements that appear in a lot of other series determines wether a show is generic or not: by your definition every show that feature humans, buildings and dialogues would be generic, so dumb ✅
you consider that the overarching topics of the story are the things that determine its value, so something that uses the same formula would be depicted as useless since have already watched it and well, nothing more than the main formula matters, so every other element in which two stories differ wouldn't matter, since by just having the same formula in common they would both already be qualyfied as "the same thing" by you. By that definition you would be equating Harry Pother with the odiseyy and Kung Fu Panda, because the three of them follow the hero's journey. Atomic 🤦♂🤦♂🤦♂🤦♂, just because a show features a power fantasy and an underdog story does not render it redundant (just by the mere counterexample that i've given you that would be the case) ✅
You also talk a lot about edginess without: a) specifying what definition you are even using of the term, because it is a lazy and ambiguos term (just like you) b) specifying WHY the things in question would enter this cathegory and c) specifying why it would be bad in the first place✅
you do not even justify why having the same overarching structure regarding battles would make it generic: again, a case of fallacy of composition.✅
they hunt things = OMG THEY COPIED HXH ✅
you say that the intro is generic and you not only avoid justifying that but you also proceed to cite something that is not generic at all 💀✅
Serious rant:
You criticize how he could kill a dungeon monster alone when it was a C rank boss and he had been constantly getting rewards from his previous training that should at least have repositioned him one rank above its original rank, which in adition to the dozens of monsters (OF HIS SAME RANK AT THAT POINT) he killed in the dungeon should have necessarily repositioned him in the C or B rank💀💀💀💀
it is even more obvious when you see who the titles of the monsters start changing color, showing you exactly why he was able to kill the snake at the end: HE LEVELED UP HIS RANK CONSTANTLY BY KILLING OF THE MONSTERS IN THE DUNGEON LITERALLY ALONE, EVEN THE TITLE OF THE SERIES ALLUDES TO THIS, HOW CAN SOMEONE BE SO BRAINDEAD.

Opinions on solo leveling aside, what the actual fuck are you talking about with the anime industry being in a bad place. There are more anime fans than there have ever been and that’s a statistical fact and it’s because of anime like solo leveling that ends up making that the case. Not everyone wants a thought provoking tale with super high tension stakes at every turn. Some people like to turn their brain off and just enjoy something and solo leveling is enjoyable for that fact. The fights are fun and flashy to watch. I’m not even saying it’s great, but to say the anime industry is in a bad place because of it is just factually wrong.
popularity does not equal quality if you can't understand that then I don't know what to tell you
@@KingMaad I didn’t say that it did. But, there are other plenty of high quality shows because these “trash” shows you’re talking about exist. Who knows? Maybe one day we’ll finally get a great Berserk adaptation because of shows like solo leveling, demon slayer, jujitsu kaisen, and all of these other popular shows that are doing so well. Otherwise anime will become a niche medium with very little fans across the world. Why do you think we get all of these isekai shows every season. Because it is what brings people to the platform. It’s a starting point for most viewers
@@alexhall9715 Yes but you insinuated that because anime is at a all time high in terms of viewership that means it's not in a bad place, the confusion must be that I do not mean it's dead in terms of popularity, it is dead in terms of quality. I would like anime to be more of a niche medium, the infestation of casuals have ruined this industry.
