The name of the girl singing from 5:35 to 6:10 is Rodleen Getsic (singer/actress) who was checking another musician's work mastering his solo album, next door to the band's studio. Up in the
lounge above the studios someone played a recording of her singing from a show she had recently done. The guys heard her voice and asked her to sing on the album.
This song was inspired by a strange party on the Deftones's tour bus, where a everyone had a knife from drummer Abe Cunningham's blade collection and was dancing around the bus with them. Vocalist Chino Moreno then created an imaginary scenario from it about a secret knife society. "I made up this fake scenario of some kind of underworld society of knives, people who just get off on these erotic fantasies," he explained. "Or something like that. An Eyes Wide Shut kind of thing."
Rodleen sang this song live with the band back in 2009 in a benefit concert for Chi Cheng, the band's Bassist player who was in a coma after a car accident in 2008 (he passed away in 2013). There are no great quality recordings of that benefit performance though. This wasn't a standard song in their tour setlist for a while, because of the difficulty to replicate Rodleen part live, i guess. But since 2010 Chino has made an effort and now it's a recurrent song in their shows. Here is my favorite live version from 2015 in great quality: ua-cam.com/video/83YnMEJxbtk/v-deo.html
Deftones has one of the deepest catalogs out there, if not the deepest, in hard rock/metal. They started as a standard nu metal band but kept evolving to the point it's hard to categorize them. They're unique and ahead of their time. Multiple songs from each album starting at Around the Fur in 97 to Gore in 16 would all be reactionable. Digital Bath, Passenger, Tempest, and Rosemary are a few which have broad appeal, but you hear reacted to plenty. See little from the hits off their newest album - Hearts/Wires, Phantom Bridge, Prayers/Triangles. Or some of their oldish ones not on White Pony like Be Quiet and Drive, Around the Fur, Needles and Pins, and Hexagram. I think you're going to enjoy this exploration as much as we will.
What about adrenaline?
@@MikeyCole8212 not really a fan of anything on there but Engine No. 9. I found it depressing at the time and still do. Chino agreed.
Fair enough ✌️
Wait till you hear Elite, they won a Grammy for that song!
Back when awards meant something. Now you can get an emmy for killing thousands of old people
Check out Rx Queen Next 🤘🏼😀
Deftones is part Radiohead and part star wars. Much like Radiohead, they don't have a genre of their own. Many bands experiment with different sounds and techniques but nobody takes a full 180 degree turn (successfully). They started as a nu-metal band along with Korn and shaped the genre. Much before Linkin park and Slipknot or Limp Bizkit, there was deftones. Since then they have shifted to dream pop, shoe-gaze, witch house and lately post rock. And then they are like Star Wars because you have to be a certain age to fully enjoy Deftones. The best age/window is high school and college years. The lyrics are evocative and you can really connect and paint your own picture.
My all time favourite song... it's just beautiful. So full of emotion.
Elite ✌️
awesome song 🤘
Best fucking band for the last 30 been evolving ever since
I think, don’t know for sure, but I think that high note was her, not a guitar. Ever heard that super high whistle note that Mariah Carey does? Not everybody can do it, but I think that’s what she was doing
Genuine reaction. Respect.
this song is really dark once you properly read into the lyrics. Its about self harm essentially. one of their darkest songs imo but also one of their best.
Especially the blood curling screams from Rodleen freaking terrifying good. I do love this song but it gives me nightmares at times.
Rx Queen
You have to check the recents lives version of this song, chino screams like the girl cause he has to

Rodleen Getsic is the other singer's name.
@MuseAbsolution 03 well, at least we can agree on one thing!
@MuseAbsolution 03 word.
Honestly. Everytime you use that name, I'd appreciate it if you'd remind her that we love her. Not trying to be a dick at all, but she needs to know, more than you know. (Love you Miss Gestic)
This song is about drugs
and self harm
Dude ,I hate to be a pain☺️😍😎but ,that being said lol we need more Deftones reactions , try Rickets-deftones from around the fur album and try nosebleed from the adrenaline album is fucking sick
i react to deftones when i can but they only average about 150 views so it can't be as constant as other artists but i definitely hope to round out the majority of tracks i've missed and will revisit a lot of their songs in my revisits series, thx for watching :)
