- Last year's flagship is now pitted against the mainstream Sony Xperia SP in this comparison review with the Samsung Galaxy S3. The latter wins because its better screen and camera, but as performance goes, the Sony Xperia SP is quick, passing the Samsung marginally in most test. Look. Both phones are good. Great actually for the price you get get them today. BUT there is a couple of things that make them differ. The camera is better on the s3,but build quality,performance and overall UI exerience is better on the sp. And that is because the Exynos cpu just can't keep up with a snapdragon s4 at 1.7 gHz,even though the Exynos is quad-core (plus,Touchwiz is a bit laggy). If you are here watching this video trying to decide which one to get,think about this. What you value most? Performance,or camera?

I choose SP with display and camera from S3 + 1gb of ram from i9305. Best choice:))
Personally,I use a Sony Xperia Z1 with Cyanogenmod. And It kicks as all day all night.
Xperia with the recent price drop and the new patch from sony really kicks ass now, also with 4G picking up speed (patch that samsung :)) plus the looks of SP it's really a no-brainer which one to go for.

Hello everyone, first I want to say is congratulations on the comparison, and finding the best one. The S3 as your ace that does not have to be better by having better screen, the SP has more PPi than the S3, it's just a matter of taste or different technologies and the camera of SP will be better with the next update, and fluency Earn SP , SP better than S3.

i used to have the s3 i9300 and now i have a sp, i can tell you for a fact that the sp takes a shit on the s3, its graphics and ppi is way better, better processer. actually its dual core processer is better than the S3's quad core cuz the sp has a very powerfull dual core processer which is much more better than the old quad core of the S3. the only thing samsung beat the sp in was the Camera. Thats it. SP all the way
Do you think I could get used to the size of either of these phones? I have a blackberry 9300 at the minute and I remember being in tescos and comparing the size of it next to the s4 and it was just so so big :( but do you get used to the bigger size?
Hey Guys, in my opinion (knowing I had both of them) , I think the best phone here is Xperia sp, that's because of his performance compared to the s3. That is some features of XPERIA SP :
*The Sp has a better quality in design.
*Better performance ( CPU & GPU ).
*The best in gaming (Mainly on Android 4.1).
*Better Design.
*Very Good Battery (2370 map).
The only point the s3 is better in is the screen. 4.8 > 4.6 . (But isn't a big difference).
Before I had The galaxy s3 But now I have Xperia SP and i'm satisfied with it.

The SP has a viewing angle almost up to 180 degrees without much noticeable difference. You're wrong for saying otherwise. I have the phone.

Sony Xperia SP is DEFINITELY better than ANY phone in battery life, I got it for about a week and I have used it for 1 day 16 hours for some internet surf, low graphics gaming , taking 10-15 pics , capturing a 5 min video and around 8 calls with "LTE prefered" and 76% battery remaining,I recommend this to people who travel alot and have a lot of business but not to someone who wants the phone for entertainment purposes because the display and camera are not that good,THUMBS UP SO OTHERS SEE
When you compared between dual core in SP and Quad core in S3, the SP won.

If you're talking spec wise and performance wise, run the best (Antutu) benchmark or check their charts, the GS4 comes out on top of the HTC One.
Yes the design might be better on the HTC One being fully aluminium and has speakers on the front on top and bottom which is cool. The gs4 is a bit more powerful and is a bit slimmer (I've held both).
I would take a HTC One over the standard GS4, but I would take a Google play edition stock latest android GS4 over the One.
More Ppi in xleria sp and with dual core snapdragon 1.7 is more faster to use quad core is not only about the procesor power is also software and hardware with optimizacion and the battery of xperia sp is all :)
Xperia SP with Playstation Certified can play with dualshock 3. wiht cable or wireles both can with Xperia SP. Glove mode on Xperia SP so cool ( same with Xperia Sola) but much better, can move phone without touching screen (floating touch)

Is is true the SP have bad WIFI connection? Do you guys recommend this phone? Does it lag a lot?
so the camera firmware is the only donwfall? BTW you can fic the camera by downloading an app. Hope that everyone in that has a hard time choosing will find this helpfull. (sorry for bad english)

in the other hand, SP is just a midranged model which follows up

i have a samsung galaxy s3 and i love it because have a very good design, the speed of the Processor, the camera, all of this i love it
It actually ranks pretty much the same on Antutu benchmark, it has the cool light glass on the bottom but it is heavier and a bit thicker which is a downside. But I have an SP and still love it. Pretty sure it can be a bit cheaper than the gs3, Idk.
The GS3 does have 4.8 inch screen and the SP a 4.6 I believe.
with a slower quad core vs. a faster dual core.. as well as a mali 400 vs adreno 320 comparison.. the sp clearly wins hardware wise with a just price tag of less than the S3's.. S3 is still better? why because you 'say so' ?
I feel much shocked how crazy is our technology world is, once the tech experts announced to humans they are now trying to reduce the size in which latest technology could be accommodated, so people left big desktop PCs, came to laptops, then small notebooks and very small size costly phones. And now I must cry, what was the need to shift all W W W word and technology in a small size phone, when again you are shifting to bigger and bigger screen sizes reaching 5 '' in phone and 10.1' in tabs.
The Sp (2013 march) is newer than the S III (2012 may) and its equipped with a newer generation cpu.
Xperia SP colors more vivid and more alive so for me camera pick would be Xperia SP! Plus it's better looking with a premium feel and SP is a bit cheaper than the S3, SP rocks in this equation!
For me I will choose for Xperia SP because of the price is cheaper,camera is better,screen is more brighter,processor is better than S3 and i like the xperia SP camera too
I already chose (and have) Xperia SP. Why?
Because it is a mid (mid-high) range phone, and its very cheap compared to its hardware. Its HD display is very beautiful even if its TFT, it has the gpu of quad core phones, a dual core 1.7 Krait. Really this phone is super fast, its doing multitasking like hot knife cuts butter. And if youre a gamer, this phone can run everything on max settings. I tried an unreal engine game. HD res, ultra high: 52,5 average fps. This says all about the performance.
On the SP can you turn of the light notifications ???

well, sony has stated that SP will get 4.3, not sure about future version of android though as it's not been officially released. But that's not bad. Idk about gs3 receiving > 4.3. Could you give me the source?
you can get it like this , there is one bowl and we have to finish it up quickly.
Thought quad-core have four spoons to do this task, many a time we require one spoon to do a lot more then the others, so work is not always distributed equally.
In this case, sony used its brain and made only two spoon that would carry out most of the work efficiently. This is what makes this phone super fast then most of other midrange quadcore
I juste pourchased he SP an I ABSOLUTLY don't regret my money. For those who are still wondering which one to choose, I will say that the price ratio is to consider you get the best for your money but my only hick on the SP is that the music volume is not s loud as I usually like it, but for the rest, Soney wins without difficulty. GO SONY GO!!!

why does the sony xperia sp inches are smaller than thoes of the samsung s3 and looks like they are the same size ?
Because Sony Xperia SP's body size is bigger because of illumination light barso that's why Samsung Galaxy S3 & Sony Xperia SP looks the same in size but the S3 slightly big.........

With the 1 year, S3 has turned into a mid-range phone, it doesn't stay flagship forever lol.
Xperia SP. Why? Here's why: much better build quality, looks nicer, faster, cheaper.
For me, this is more than enough as a phone to have. I dont need 4 and 8 and so on cores to enjoy android. After 4.1 no phones lag, because of project butter. And Xperia SP runs like butter! :P
This phone is amazing due to the fact that it packs mid-range yet unbelievably strong hardware and features that makes it feel and run like a high-end device.
Oh, and it´s really cheap, when you think of the things it does.
You won´t believe its actual price.
It costs half of the price of an iPhone 5 yet, to me, it´s way cooler than a rotten apple...
yeah but in the sony xperia sp we cannot use games to the memory card so we can only use 5 ( oute of 8 ) GB of the internal storage of the phone for games, right?

Xperia SP! Its a very beautiful, fast, super phone! Sure the S3 has its beauties, but really... the SP is just premium! :) I have it in white, nothing can be compared... :P
you can move apps to sd card??
it scores much better because of the GPU... Xperia Sp uses Adreno 320... while galaxy S3 uses Mali 400 which is outdated than Adreno.. Also Xperia is Packed with Snapdragon brand of CPU.. even though it is only a dual core... Snapdragon is the best CPU for all smartphones...
but the memory is only 8gb, is that enough, I'm also wondering what to buy
