Haha, I’m making a tiny desk with everything snugged in because I have three square meters space for all my gear. I don’t have the luxury to move stuff around, all packed custom made. I hope to have it finished in two weeks 😊
Dave, why not make a false wall on the left side nook area for all the rack gear, then cut out an entry point from within the storage closet for service access to the rack equipment. then the right side can hold all the records as you planned.
Thanks for the video, Dave. Reconfiguring feels like spring cleaning when I have done it but it's definitely a chore. The down side is when reconfiguring requires the purchase of additional cables... $$$! Hopefully that won't be the case for you. BTW, I noticed your guitar racks and wanted to recommend you think about slot racks (it doesn't look like yours are slot racks but I can't tell). There's a company called Diamond Life and they make great racks. You can move your guitars around however you like, whenever you like. I also hang cables from hooks on them - same deal. Anyway, you may want to check them out. They are also paintable if you want.
Hey Dave and Dave, Can you somehow utilize the the storage closet on the left side of the console for the power supply rack? Maybe notch the drywall and slide it in so that it's visible. Then use the door for access...🤔 Sounds like a lot but it'll probably be less work than rewiring everything... Good luck either way guys!
You could also cut a small 6"x 6" pass through into your closet, behind that left corner bass trap, so all the cable run against the back of the wall into that side closet, and then another 6x6 pass through to get them out of the closet to the new location where you are putting your rack. This way you hide your cables, instead of just moving them from one side of the room to the other.
I could bu I am not cutting up the walls for this project. That is waaaay to ambitious for me. not to mention that I would then need to replace almost every d-sub cable at $250 each which isnt happening
I would be covering up those two side cavities with acoustic curtains at least. Those cavities are capturing and reflecting sound. You also have a lot of miscellaneous objects in the room creating random and uncontrolled diffusion. A cleaner, less messy, and more organized space would sound and frequency-test much better overall.
Love these videos uncle Dave. definitely looks like you need redo. I can't believe how much stuff you have now. The power company must be thinking you have a weed farm.
People say that a lot but I will say my power bill has not really gone up all that much. Modern gear is way more power efficient than the vintage stuff
"Finalized gear in here?" Not a chance if you're like the rest of us.🙂 Can't wait to see the reset, but have to say your old setup looks great and makes me jealous.
At 9:31 you said you have "all the finalized gear" That made me laugh. Nothing is final with a studio Dave. Love the room. Love the video. Peace brother.
@@MixingMusicAnalog Well whichever way. But it is an amazing space. A long ways away from what you had when I first started watching your videos 9 years ago. Can you believe it's been that long? I really have no need for the outboard gear like you, but maybe someday. I'll keep watching the videos cuz I do love seeing all the toys you keep picking up.
Can't wait to see the new setup! It will definitely help me figure out how i want to set up the studio I'm building early next year! Glad to hear your choice of the new Focal trio 6 st's. That what I've decided on for mine as well, along with the 11" Focal sub. Is that the sub you have? Really dig you videos man. Really helpful, especially in making gear choices.
I have a great idea; move the record rack elsewhere in the house, buy more rack cases from Sanctus, and acquire more cool gear 😆😎 JK, great job, as usual, Dave.

Have you checked out the flock patch bays? I am really considering one. Maybe they could help your cabling. I understand what you’re up to with cabling. Cable management is a necessary evil.
@@MixingMusicAnalog It looks like you have some stuff patched more on a permanent basis. I was thinking if that's the case why not have those connections normaled. Later on i realized the back of the patchbay was all db25 so that makes routing more difficult.
Looks great! I have to ask, what settlings do you use on your sub with the Twins? I am having a hard time dialing my Sub6, Do you use the high pass filter?
Yeah, the only thing I can think of to replace the PreSonus 4848 quantum's with either UA apollos or Focusrite Red 16Line Thunderbolt 3 Audio Interface or Antelope Audio Orion 32 Plus Gen4 those are the only ones that I know off the top of my head that have DB25 ports that you use.
There is so much work involved in recabling. I just replaced my Presonus StudioLive 32s with a vintage Sony/MCI MXP-3036 that I restored. And not only do I have to recable, I have to resolder cables from 1/4" to Tuchel connectors. Mmmm. I wouldn’t F with it … most studios have that gear table behind the sweet spot where people eat their lunch (if they let you have food) But if you have the beer freak energy to make it perfect go for it. It might take a few more iterations though which is the danger.
Look forward to this new journey! Get the coffee on...
More to come......
I like these types of videos! Please keep them coming.
Stayed tuned!

I really do want to start building walls and that closet is full and the stuff cant be moved
Beautiful looking space, the lighting looks awesome.
Thank you!
You've outgrown your space
Nope, not yet. Low overhead

no way to use that closet. Not cutting into walls, good idea though
@MixingMusicAnalog If you ever change your mind and decide to, I'd do the work in exchange for some gear...🤩
That sounds like a great new use of space!
I am trying to maximize it the best I can
You got it!
Cabling will be the reason I stay mostly ITB minus a few targeted outboard pieces. Good luck with the cabling!
Yep, cabling is a nightmare when running lots of analog
I look forward to your future videos on this adventure, best of luck!!!

You are amzing. i am big fan of yours. thank you for this video. now i got inspired and rewired my 3 pieces.
Hey, thank you very much! I am happy the channel is helping and has inspired you!
Me too, just not to this extreme
What’s your electrical sub panel situation?
Seeing my electrician Friday
Thinking
4 circuits @ 20 amps each
Considering my old tube amps
I spoke with UA just today regarding amp draw and ventilation for my Apollo X racks
Lots of amperage can get eaten up
But the Genelec folks assured me even with two 7370a’ subs and my near fields the amp pull is relatively low
Rack gear was thinned out since I started in the ‘70s
Just keeping my favs and I cut my patch bay count in half
So for a small studio I’ve been enjoying pretty many unison Plugs through a new souped up Mac but for tracking
the Preamps, Compression, EQ all outboard
Also the
EL distressors and my original H3000’ are staying but all the 500 series is
bye bye I just couldn’t roll with them
I wish I liked the system as the prices are more palatable
Spent far more time playing live and tracking so I thought given my age it was time to get more chair time
Hopefully I remember all the PTs keys commands
and hopefully I can discern higher frequencies with the left ear tinnitus and moderate left ear loss my confidence above 4khz is a spotty
I did use visuals
Spectrum analysis for years so I can get by using that reference but I do find that younger friends that have engineering educations under their belt will tend to to review my EQ using less high pass
Last thing your screen height looks like a neck breaker unless I’m misjudging your seated position
Have fun
I’d like to keep checking in
Thanks for the vid
I have a sub panel for the studio so it runs on all separate circuits. I think I have 8-10 20 amp circuits
Makes me want to redo my studio lol!!
Go for it
Part Studio part Man Cave-Love it😊
Thank you
Have you checked out the flock patch bays? I am really considering one. Maybe they could help your cabling. I understand what you’re up to with cabling. Cable management is a necessary evil.
Yes, it would cost me almost $25K to get a large enough Flock setup for all the I/O I would need. Not going to happen
Nothing beats an actual cable.
@@MixingMusicAnalog that makes sense. I wouldn’t spend that much either.
Very nice! Out of curiosity what are the patc cables doing? They sorta look permanent.
Not sure I understand the question

I run my sub through the trinnov room correction so it handles the high pass. Its set at 80hz
@@MixingMusicAnaloglove your vids -thanks making and sharing these. Aren’t your monitors a bit tucked away ? Whats your plan to improve that ?
❤ 👍🏽 I need to do the same thing as you but been putting it off for so long 😊 inspirational video Dave 🤦🏽♂️🤬 cables 😂

I am thinking the new Ferrofish 32 which is all dsub 32 I/O

watching your video when I Re-Configuring mine 😅
Perfect! LOL
Lots of changes since the console went in big difference
For sure!
Could always go with RME Converters if you end up replacing the Quantums.
I am think the new Ferrofish units. All Dsub 32 I/O

That should do it
Will see!
Welcome to our nightmare...
WOW...good luck. Great project.
You sir, are a trooper!😉
Thanks!
Do yourself a favour and put led work light in all racks so it not a horrible experience trying to repair or add new gear 🤞
Ok, thanks
The electric bill must be huge. You are drawing so much current. WOW.
Nope, its not. I have talked about this in other videos on the channel
Sounds like you are going to be buying a bunch of longer cable.
Actually, I only needed to purchase on 15ft cable
@@MixingMusicAnalog That’s a win!
great plan. thanks for sharing!
