Mark is playing thru an 'electret condenser mic' a tiny capsule with a little wire and usually an equalizer, all powered with a 9V battery. Gives a uniquely overdriven sound, so perfect with a harp. Enables the player to avoid the weight and size of an Astatic J35. MFord is an incredible harp player and backed by his brother Robben who is a masterful jazz and blues guitarist, the sound they create, is incredibly tight and great to hear! Long live the Ford brothers! You've been rockin us for over 50 yrs!
I saw the Ford bros a few times at the Catalyst and once at the Safari, both in Santa Cruz, Ca. Mid 70’s. At the Safari Pat introduced Robben…”and on guitar, Wayne Newton”..😂 Mark on harp is smoother than a gravy sandwich! Monster talented family 👍❤️
One of my favorite guitarists and singers;.forgot to listen to his music for a while; silly me! It still sounds like great.and I like the familiarity and good mood it puts me in. Thank you, Mr. Ford❤️
When I was 17, I went on a date with a stunning model. I had this albumn and song playing in my car. She said "What the hell is this shit?!". I pulled to the side of the road and said "Get out, we are NOT compatible!". Sadly, this is a true story
This (unfortunately) fairly bassless mix allows a good study of Robben's impeccable rhythm playing, a great study. The keyboard's left hand was probably fine in the room but didn't make it to tape very well. Still feels good. Lick at 1:03 is same as on the record, that's cool.
For me 'The Holy Triumvarate' of guitar playing Bluesmen is Jimi Hendrix, Stevie Ray and Robben Ford. When these 3 guys were on stage they were 100% there and completely gone at the same time, totally lost in the Music.

Pat Ford has a bunch of tapes of them all playing in Bay Area clubs back in the day. Mark and Robben were playing Coltrane stuff. Insane.
