John Mayall is the father of British Blues. It was John Mayall who first discovered Eric Clapton way back when and gave him his first job as a guitarist in his famous Bluesbreakers band. The rest is history!
Eric seems to have already been a "name" by the time he left the Yardbirds, but Mayall's band was the leading British blues band and joining was a big stepping stone into the limelight for Eric and later for Peter Green, Mick Taylor, and others.
It wasn’t Eric’s first job, he was quite famous in the yardbirds and before that a group called the Roosters with Paul jones and Tom McGuinness, so I believe but can’t be sure
@@nickbaldwin1668 From Wikipedia: After playing in a number of different local bands, Clapton joined the Yardbirds from 1963 to 1965, and John Mayall & the Bluesbreakers from 1965 to 1966. After leaving Mayall, he formed the power trio Cream with drummer Ginger Baker and bassist/vocalist Jack Bruce, in which Clapton played sustained blues improvisations and "arty, blues-based psychedelic pop".

What a great pity that the greatest player of the blues in the UK, bar none, was not there - Sandy Brown.
I'd love it if the whole thing was on UA-cam, specifically the two songs Buddy sang before John came on stage... Jacksboro Highway is fantastic.
