That space between blues and jazz where Robben Ford is at his best. Phenomenal playing, IMHO. Owh, and Miles was good too. ;-) RF rips between 2:50 and 5:50

Couldn’t agree more. Yellowjackets record is the sweet spot for me. I know he loves to play the blues, but his best moments are taking it outside within that context (for me). His solo records don’t go there much.
Many years ago, my advisor at music school saw me carrying a Strat through the music department. He remarked, "You will never play jazz with that." I am glad that music evolves.

Without being a musical professional, I have to say Robben's solo has everything I like in music. Melodic phrasing over the excellent harmonies, so much soul, perfect timing, technique and feeling combined, jazz and blues in a perfect mix. Amazing Robben!!! Ahh yes Robben's 'Strat Phase' - we all go through it, the quack, the overdriven sweetness from the middle pickup - he did it well, no wonder Miles liked him
He put Seymour Duncan Hot Rails in the middle and the bridge positions. It looks like a strange configuration, but sounds amazing.
