People should not be mean. This is not a one size fits all. People who are lean can do high fat. High fat works for some and not for others. Thank you for continuing to do what you do. You are helping the majority of people get healthy by dropping carbs. We are all in this together. 😊

Age 72, keto for 3 years, lost 45 pounds & kept it off. So for the simplicity of keeping carbs low I moved to carnivore & maintained my weight loss. After 6 months I decided to incorporate resistant training into my routine. The result? Well my waist remained the same, but I regained 20 pounds. My supposition is that I've regained and added muscle mass which is vitally important for a senior citizen. I don't look fat or overweight, but I'm not a skinny old man either. And I can't remember ever having "just fallen" with no cause (last winter I fell to 1 knee while walking on dry snow covering Ice--I don't count that as a senior citizen fall).

I am so happy you had Linda on. All of the lipedema doctors I’ve heard that recommend keto/carnivore, preach a high fat approach. That just never made sense to me. I had listened to Linda on UA-cam years ago, even before finding you Emmerichs. It’s great to hear she’s figured out that the higher protein, lower fat is the way to go.
All I’ve learned from the Emmerichs, I’ve learned for free from watching their free UA-cam videos, using their free macro calculator, being in their free Facebook groups, and incorporating their free recipes. I have purchased a bunch of their cookbooks and have even joined their paid challenges, mostly to support them and as a thank you for all of the free knowledge they provide us with.

I felt so bad for Maria on "Reversed". I totally agree and appreciate your stance on fat. Ken Berry does good work but he's not accurate about many things. I think there is an awakening taking place in regards to fat and flexibility.

I think Dr. Berry and others who encourage additional fat is inaccurate too. I added fat at his personal suggestion on a zoom chat 6 months ago. All that happened was a 7 lb gain. After listening to Craig explain the science in a recent video I stopped adding fat, even having lower fat meats, sirloin and tenderloin instead of a fatty ribeye. In 3 weeks I lost only 1 lb but my body composition is noticeable.

This was the confirmation that I needed, when I started carnivore I went full on fat and believed calories didn't matter, I was active but I'm also small and I gained a lot of fat. I recently found a trainer that specializes on petite women, i had no Idea my approach should be different due to my size, I would do the bulking and cuttings recomended mostly for bigger people and never worked, high protein has helped to stay within my caloric range and to reach my daily protein goal. I can tell that I'm getting leaner.

Me too! You've given me a little hope. I was 98 lbs when I started; which is a good weight for me. I've been between that and 100 most of my adult life. I did not want to gain weight. I didn't at first, but then it seemed to quickly come - on my abdomen and butt - all fat! I gained almost 10 lbs to weight more than I ever have. It is uncomfortable, I feel it weighs me down (literally) so I now have less energy, and have not yet got much help for the GI issues I hoped to resolve.
It appealed to my history of binge eating - eat as much as I want! Of course calories matter. I agree they are not everything - but logic alone suggests that a person can't just eat an unlimited amount that is more than their body can use without gaining weight. I think most folks doing these diets are overweight, so they can eat that way perhaps and still be in a caloric deficit. Worse, I used to be able to lose weight quickly just by cutting my intake for a few days or a week, but this weight isn't budging. I'm really scared. Wish I wouldn't have been so naive. Thanks for sharing your experience - I assume you are doing weight training? Maybe I will try to up that and hopefully help - a trainer would probably be a good idea to keep me on track!

Thank you so much for this interview and topic! I am so grateful that this popped up in my feed. I haven't read/listened to much from you Maria, but know you are a real 'OG' in this area and that means a lot. Unfortunately as someone I know said; everyone who eats a burger for a week has a 'carnivore' YT channel and I started following what I now consider bad advice. Just eat as much as I want. especially fat! In fact, if I have a craving, have some butter, etc. I have a slight build, and did not want to gain weight - if nothing, maybe loose 3 or 4 lbs around my middle which was new for me. My main 'why' was to heal severe GI issues, and get some energy I hear everyone raving about. I ended up gaining almost 10 lbs of fat - on my abdomen and buttocks - and it is very uncomfortable. Also can't fit into most of my pants. I'm now struggling to lose it - I used to be able to lose weight easily just cutting down for a few days or a week - but now this weight won't budge, even with cutting back on the amount I'm eating.
Please keep speaking out - unfortunately so many of these big name influencers have gone too extreme with the 'calories' don't matter mantra.; and that is a dirty word. I agree - it is more complex than simple 'calories' - but the basic principle still holds. If you eat more than your body needs or can use; it will be stored and you will gain weight. I also have a history of eating disorder with binging and purging - and all this did was give me permission to binge. I can binge just as easily on meat and butter as I can on carbohydrates. For me, it is more than carb addiction - it is the comfort of eating.
I think the majority of people using these diets are very overweight, so can support eating a lot of calories - or very musclular and athletic like some of the influencers and their bodies can support 3 or 4 thousand calories a day.
Now I feel less energetic and more depressed with this extra weight - and I don't know what to do. I'm afraid to eat carbs, although to be honest; I had maintained my weight at about 100 lbs my entire adult life on a primarily carbohydrate diet. Sure wish I would have heard this first. Don't stop sharing your message. It is unfortunate that even in the carnivore space, people are eager to make a name and income... and the idea of being able to eat whatever you want is very attractive.

What a great show. I have about 35-40 lbs. to lose, and I used to pound the fat when on Keto like crazy, but I'm more conservative now. It's been a long circuitous journey for me, started with Paleo about 10 years ago, then tried Keto about 7 years ago. I lost 60 lbs. (didn't reach my goal...only about 15 away), but then had 4 surgeries with in a 2-year period, plus menghorria and over 3 years gained 40 lbs. back. I quit drinking wine on Dec. 27, 2030, started Keto Vore on January 1, 2024, and so far, have lost 25 lbs. Unfortunately, I undereat and fast way too much so I'm so glad to listen to this show! I walk several times a week and lift weights. That is my sweet spot.

I'm so glad I found this (and subscribed). I know I'm going to put off a lot of people, but I can't watch many of the carnivore youtubers anymore. Doesn't matter if they are doctors or just people with great results and now become coaches. I've been asking for 8 months why I don't lose the weight, I get "you are healing, stop worrying about your weight and one doctor told me to love my fat' I am healing but I want the weight I gained while being sick to go and I don't think that's a bad thing to want. I walk and run every morning, and I'm told you are exercising too much! Also told eat more fat! One doctor told me to reduce the fat and eat more protein and I THINK, but not sure it might be starting to work..but I'm also busting my butt at work nearly 7 days a week to, so that might be it. I eat OMAD and then I get scolded I need to eat more. Others say you HAVE to be cheating. I am not, I prefer the lion diet, just red meat and I'm full after one meal and granted, it doesn't look like much and I'd think after 8 months, I'd have lost a lot of weight. One youtuber had such great results, but he's in your face like what is wrong with you? Almost angry at everyone for not being carnivore. It's all getting to be such a big turn off. One dr community had a free membership trial and I tried it to see how it was and maybe get some guidance but everyone ignored me and talked about carnivore snacks, so I didn't join. I can't afford these paying groups as it is so I just plug along and try to figure it all out myself.

Thank you for taking the time to write this, because I feel exactly as you do; but have been reluctant to say anything. Unfortunately, as one you tuber I DO respect says "anyone who eats burgers for a while has a carnivore you tube channel'!! And often fancies themselves as a 'coach' or some authority. Even some of the MDs I feel are a little remiss in painting everyone with a broad brush. I cringe when I hear some people handing out what is medical advice on live chats to someone they know nothing about. And, when I hear things like a young woman telling someone who was not losing weight for MONTHS, she just needs to eat more! And to tell someone like me, who is gaining unwanted weight, that it is my body 'healing".
BULLOCKS! If you are not losing, or gaining (over a period of time) it is b/c the diet is not correct! Eating more fat is not the answer! I logically knew this, but I did fall prey to it for a brief time. Having almost 10 lbs of fat around my abdomen and butt is not 'healing' , and I also feel worse. Yet - as you experienced; this has become a 'fact' with some of the big name influencers. The calorie concept is more nuanced than initially known - but that does not mean it is completely irrelevant! I actually read Dr. Atkins original book - and he did have a uber high fat plan for short term use for the 'metabolically resistant' - BUT it was calorie restricted! One form was butter and macadamia nuts - but 900 calories a day. One stick of butter and a few nuts spread out throughout the day. That is why it worked.
I'm going to go on with your roll! Then. they all want you to join their private group, or coaching program, or whatever if you want more 'personal' guidance. It's only $30, or $5.99 a month , but that adds up and I don't know about others, but I can't afford to join everyone's group - especially to find the 'coach' has less education and health knowledge than I do. You do not interact with the 'big name' doc or influencer who is running the channel (and making the $) . I'm sorry if that sounds snobby, but I think it is an issue. I think it is great when people share their stories, or interview others; but need to take some pause when handing out advice. I also think in the desire to 'sell' carnivore - you tubers focus on the dramatic stories of quick results and healing in weeks (sometimes even days are claimed). I beleive this happens, but I suspect most of us - not so dramatic and not so fast; and therefore are tempted to give up OR worse, as you experienced, told you are doing something 'wrong' - because we are not allowed to admit that it's not working , or I'm not getting the great results others are.
I do believe in a meat based diet, and eating healthy fats, and all the basic priniciples - but you are spot on about how sadly this has also become another money making venture for many. I joined one of the private groups and found it little to no help also. It was very clique-y - reminded me of junior high! The 'regulars' were friendly at first, but after that, seemed like they would all talk to each other. I would post a question or topic, hoping to get discussion , and it was mostly ignored. No reason - I was polite, etc. and obviously there for discussion. I also noticed that certain members seemed to run the group and were very judgmental toward people who expressed doubt - or wondered about eating some vegetables etc.
Well, Debbie, keep on going. I do find these YT comment sections are good. I also just can't afford to spend more money for memberships , etc. plus, I'm soured with the idea. I don't like giving out my credit card info and having money withdrawn monthly, etc. Makes me nervous. Anyone can open a discord group for free. maybe we should just start a general carnivore discussion group at no cost!

yes, you absolutely can gain weight on the Carnivore diet. I inadvertently gained 20 pounds of fat. At my age I should have prioritized the protein over the fat rather than vice versa. I was already somewhat overweight when I started. After a year I was a fat fatty. I have recently switched it up, making sure I am prioritizing the protein, and sacrificing most of the fat. Once I get to my desired weight, I will add fat back into the diet.

THis is SO good! My issue is being able to get the required protein IN --because I have been so low in carbs for so long I have very little appetite and getting 120 gm of protein in has been almost impossible. Also though--my weight is stalled and in fact am gaining some weight. The light bulb went on as you were talking that I LIKELY have too much fat in my diet yet! I will shift that proportion now. But the hormone issue--wow--at 73 I assumed I had to just accept low everything so this is definitely an area I need to explore.!Great video!!

I am however getting many benefits from the diet though. My arthritis is gone. I sleep better. Energy is up. Over all mood is better. I have narrowed it down to Dairy being my devil in weight loss and possibly to much protein and not enough fat. 80-90% of my primary meals are ribeye. But I use cheese (not raw) as a snack. I did cut dairy out for 3 weeks. Dropped 7 pounds. Then I put cheese and milk back in rotation. So.........looks like today I quit my dairy addiction and will cut protein intake and add fat to see if it gets me down. I'm on my wife's account......Scott

@@craigemmerich it’s tough to feel satiated on low fat carnivore coming from volume addiction. No desire to add carbs, however. I do eat low carbs including coconut plus bow that it’s spring in the NE, I’ll be adding non-toxic greens and fruit that I grow, in small amounts. I’m working on healing this after a lifetime. I’ve discovered short-term dry fasting (24-72hrs), really love it. For me it’s all or nothing, with the middle (eating smaller portions) really hard. PSMF was super hard due to always wanting to eat more amd being mentally food-fixated. Not eating or drinking at all is way easier, liberating, a great reset to my ox-dumping symptoms and other gut-damaged symptoms. I don’t lose any muscle mass or feel weak (drt fasting is muscle-sparing), in fact the opposite. So far, on my 4th contiguous dry fast (once a week or so) I’m super energetic and tackle tasks I use food to procrastinate doing. It’s a great tool! The challenge, for me, is the refeed. This was such a great discussion and I wholeheartedly agree with Carnivore won’t fix everything. I have recently cured my SIBO and mould toxicity issues and no amount of carnivore dieting will cure or detox those symptoms. The carnivore diet can be used as a tool to help your symptoms feel better however it won’t cure your toxicity. The amount of strict (cult) carnivores who say they can’t eat certain foods if they go back to eating them , well there’s a reason for that. You did not get to the root cause of your issues. Plants can be used medicinally and I’ve done almost 2 years of herbal supplements in order to cure my mould toxicity and SIBO. I would bet my life on the fact that if most people dig even deeper they probably have a bigger underlying issue that eating a steak and a stick of butter won’t cure. But the carnivore community is a cult like veganism. 🤪🤡

It's all making sense now! I am carnivore, was keto. Been carnivore for three months, I can't eat the fat that they told me I need to eat, my body just won't let me, its too rich! I like lean meat and fish. I was told I'm doing it wrong and I've got to eat loads of fat, I hate the fat. I don't mind a little crispy fat but really fatty meat puts me off and to be honest, has put me off so much I've gone back to carbs a couple of times then felt awful health wise. I'm glad I don't need to eat all that fat as I feel sick trying to eat it! I naturally love high protein, I love a bit of cheese a bit of cream a little butter, but trying to force it down has thrown me back to eating the standard British diet of crap! I'm used to that. Trying to gauge on fat is disgusting. Trying to eat butter is too much. I love a rump steak and chicken legs and wings. Prawns and oily fish. Rib eye is not so nice. I can't stand bacon. Eggs poached for me or omelette. I like keto ketchup. Trying to eat all the fat is really putting me off carnivore. I found this interview very helpful thankyou.

During the last 7 months, I have been able with diet and the help of the Lord, I have been to control diabetes and lose weight. However, I am in a stall, and I need to lose approximately 20 more pounds. Recently, I found carnivore. Since only eating meat, fish, and butter, I have gained weight. This is the first time I have heard of protein sparing. This interview is great but also very confusing. Where can I find the proper information regarding this process to continue my health journey. Atkins worked well for me in 2001. I had a prison ramen noodle gut and found Atkins. I fell off and used (drug addict) again. Clean now since 2016. 2021 found carnivore and it worked well for a couple years. Went from 210 lbs down to 173. Over the past 9 months I'm creeping back up 187 lbs today. I eat so much fat it's ridiculous but because that's all I hear about on carnivore. I'm halfway through your video and COFFEE was briefly mentioned. Coffee is a big part of my day hopefully you elaborate more in the video. If not could you please tell me more about it?
