      Hello @Patrick Stocker. Thanks for the question. The quick answer is to drag the "stop" bar above the audio file when working with the file. The bar drags left and right to trim the end of the sample. You might consider checking out my free course called "Master the Nord Sample Editor" (website link in the description) where I go over all this in great detail using a variety of examples. Thanks!

    Hi. Marc. Is it possible to interpolate to different index positions on the WTABLE oscillator? I hear no change when twisting the OSC CTRL knob. Imagine linking an lfo to that. Should be easy to implement just setting the index offset.

    • @MyKeysToMusic
      @MyKeysToMusic  2 роки тому

      Hello @træsjkassett Great question. So, there is no Oscillator configuration or adjustment that can be made with either the classic waveforms, the wavetables, or the samples. Everything else has an adjustable oscillator control assigned to a pre-defined task (like shape for example). Of course, you could take a wavetable and apply the standard frequency filter cutoff and have the LFO modulate that. You can also have the LFO adjust the pitch too. But there are no further oscillator adjustments you can do to a wavetable. Alternatively, you could use a second layer to play alongside the wavetable to go for the effect you are looking for but that is not exactly the same thing as having a wavetable and then adjusting the sync or the shape via the LFO (which is what I think you are ultimately asking for here). Sorry, that is one limitation of the Wave 2 at this time. Do you own a Wave 2?

    • @jostein6581
      @jostein6581 2 роки тому +1

      @@MyKeysToMusic I own the Wave 2. I was looking on how the Korg Modwave's core functionality works, which simply positions the wavetable index slowly. I tested this on my Virus TI and Elektron Monomachine, which both have support for this. It makes an amazing sound! Is there any way we can affect the Nord team to implement this? Simply set the index position on the OSC CTRL for the W TABLE osc type, and get the LFO affect the OSC CTRL for free. Imagine this with 4 different layers, all with different wavetables and different LFOs..!

    • @MyKeysToMusic
      @MyKeysToMusic  2 роки тому +1

      @@jostein6581 Yes, I know exactly what you are talking about here as I think I recall a particular video about the Korg Wavestate that allowed the LFO to be assigned to the wavetable selector and it was very cool to see that in action. I also checked on the Wave 2 MIDI implementation chart and the wavetable list (selector knob) is not MIDI controllable. So, this is a no-go, unfortunately. You could potentially reach out to Nord and create a request/ticket with them. I have not had success making requests like this in the past. I've added this to a wish list of items that I keep handy if I someday have enough clout to have direct discussions with the manufacturer. I figure if the channel ever gets to 1 million subscribers (haha), then maybe I can start pushing my weight around a bit. Let me know if you get any action from your end or if you have more questions/ideas.

      Non esiste una soluzione alternativa di cui sono a conoscenza a meno che non si utilizzi un controller MIDI esterno e si separino i livelli per canale MIDI.
      Trovo anche questo inaccettabile da parte loro. Puoi usare "hold" abilita/disabilita per aiutarti in questo, ma non è buono come avere una funzionalità del pedale sustain indipendente per livello.
      Non sono sicuro che vedremo una soluzione per questo in quanto richiederebbe l'aggiunta di un nuovo pulsante del pedale del sustain da aggiungere al pannello del Nord Wave 2, proprio come abbiamo fatto con il Nord Stage 3 e l'Electro 6. Mi dispiace segnalare questa brutta notizia !

    Vince Clark, the synth guru and composer was one of the reasons I got interested in synthesizers in the 80´s. He wrote the big hit, Just can´t get enough when he was a part of Depeche Mode. Unexpectedly he left the band and very soon showed up with Yazoo, a new and very successful synth duo with the singer Alison Moyet. They had a lot of great hits and I still remember it as sad when they splitted. But when showed up in the new duo, Erasure, it got even better! That man is a genius!

      @MrEuki 4 роки тому +1

      Since this is a public comment, I took the liberty of answering it myself. I am the lucky owner of a Nord Stage 3 (88). It's unlikely that you live in Switzerland, otherwise we could have probably gotten ourselves a deal. I am thinking about selling the stage because it's overkill for the band I'm in. I will replace it with an Electro 6. As for your question: if synths are truly your main focus, I would look out for several things: a synth action keybed (the Stage 3 (88) has a weighted keybed), pitch- and modwheel (which the Electros do not have) and the capabilities of the synth itself. While the A1 synth engine is very flexible due to its effects, it's lacking in terms of modulation. One lfo and two standard envelopes. If you're into sound design, these limitations are bound to annoy you rather sooner than later. (However, I loved my A1 mainly for its sound and only sold it because I got the Stage 3.) If, however, your focus is playing the synth, I recommend you pick up any old keyboard or synth you can find and practice playing every day. If its has Midi it's even better because then you can play soft synths on your computer which will work fine. The goal here would be to become a better synth player and not spend your time looking up gear. There will always be a better synth. Once you have played with your keyboard or synth for a while, you will start to develop a taste for certain features. For example the characteristic of the filter or if you like aftertouch and multi-timbrality. With that experience in your mind and your improved playing skills ready at hand (sorry for the pun) I recommend you go to the largest music shop you can find and spend an afternoon playing their synths. Then you will have answered your initial question about the best synth yourself, only that it will be the best synth for you personally and not what someone else like me has recommended. Have a nice day! :)

    Hi Marc, this is an awesome professional presentation. Thank you!.
    I am considering buying either a Nord wave 2 or a Novation summit.
    I own a Nord Stage 3 and I am very happy with it. The piano sounds are very nice. If I decided to get a NW2, would it be somehow a duplicate of the NS3? • @MyKeysToMusic
      @MyKeysToMusic  4 роки тому +2

      Hello @SDOM SlowDaysofMusic Thanks for your question and sorry for the delay. If you were to own a Nord Wave 2 along with the existing Stage 3, they both can play from the Nord Sample Library 3 and they both have similar features and synth options. I recommend first (if you haven't already) to watch this video here: ua-cam.com/video/Sph6hWPVAMI/v-deo.html which compares the two in great detail and also explains where they overlap and where they are different. The big advantage is that you if you already know how to use your Stage 3, the Wave 2 is already 75% in your hands already. From that aspect, the setups can be simpler and that can be a big advantage. In many ways, adding the Wave 2 with its four layers is like adding four more Nord Stage 3 synth engines to the mix.
      To me, this combo (NS3 and NW2) is the ultimate combo if you want to have a Nord prioritized rig. Yes, there are many other synth options out there and for a lot less money in some cases each with many advantages and disadvantages along the way. But I'd like to think that once you "know" a synth, it gives you the upper edge over a different synth that you have to now learn and master to get the most out of, etc. As a working musician, my choice would be go with a rig I can master because in every scenario, this always wins the day (for me). That doesn't stop me from wanting to purchase other brands for fun, experimentation, discovery etc. I think you have to do the research and then go with your gut on these types of things.
      I love the Wave 2 and continue to be amazed at its ability to do things on the fly while performing. I plan on more content with this synth - but the demand from Nord Stage 3 owners is overwhelming at times - there are a ton of Nord Stage 3 owners out there! 😆 These are 1st world problems for sure. Report back if you can. Thanks!

      I'm in a similar spot, trying to make up my mind exactly between NW2 and the Novation Summit as an addition to my NS3 73.
      I agree with everything you wrote concerning "feeling right at home" with a nord and making everything quick and intuitive.
      However, the things that make me hesitate from going for the NW2 are:
      1. The NS3 gives me access to the same sample library, 3.0
      2. The filter modules are exactly the same, 12db, 24db, 24m, lp-hp, bp, hp - so a sawtooth going thru one of the filters on the wave 2 will give the same sound as on the stage 3. A synth like Summit can give me a different flavor and not "more of the same".
      3. I can live with the "one lfo per layer". But the fact that you can only route it to one destination is a step back from the NS3 where you can route it to osc control but still have a dedicated knob for lfo to filter. On the NW2, if you "sacrifice" the lfo for pwm, then you can't use it for filter modulation.
      4. Meanwhile, the Summit gives you less polyphony, 2 layers instead of 4, and no samples.
      5. But - you get real wavetables (and not single cycle waves), dual filters configuration, 3 loopable envelope, 4 lfos, dedicated controls for them on each section - and in addition a general mod matrix plus a dedicated mod matrix just for the fx. And the filters, vca, overdrive and distortion are real analog. Plus it has two "animate" buttons vs nord's single "impulse morph" button.

    • @MyKeysToMusic
      @MyKeysToMusic  4 роки тому

      @@bateimidrashnetwork You have provided us some great observations and details here - thank you! This is an especially tough decision because either choice has strong pros and cons. I think there is a certain excitement one gets when contemplating a synth from a different family. Yes, it has a new learning curve, but the possibilities and ultimately the sounds will in fact be much different. I think it comes down to your personal application. If you are strictly a musician that now needs more "expansion" (more of the same) on a gig and you want to leverage the knowledge you already have with Nord but simply need "more of it" to cover your sounds, I think the Wave 2 has the edge here. And as Hans Zimmer (the famous movie composer) says, "The best DAW is the one you know." And I think the same applies to keyboards. You can't underestimate the time savings using something you already know.
      However, if you are actually longing for some additional tools to get the creative juices flowing, will provide a nice compliment to your existing rig, and there is something tickling at your gut that brings excitement when you think about the Novation, then getting that will probably be the correct decision. In any case, I'm sure that with whatever one you choose, you'll make it work to the best of its (and your) ability. 😎

    I am a long time Nord fan and user, I owned NL1, NL2x, Wave1, A1 (wich I realy miss), Electro1 and Electro4 and still own a NL4 and a Electro6 wich I bought last week. I must say that I get more and more disappointed by the product policy of the company. I bought the E6 because I thought I could replace my NE4 with a MODX wich didn't work because the Keyboard sounds in wich the NE6 excels are flimsy on the MODX. But the omission of a simple filter in the Synth section, the still ridiculous 512 MB Sample memory and the missing pieces in the new sample library like the Mellotron Cello at an price tag of 1600.-€ are a bad joke. And Clavia does this things every time. Plus you have the problem that you can not install the New Sound Manager and the Sample editor in MacOs Catalina without changing the security settings in a quite brutal way. And you get no helpfull informations on that from the german distributor. So no full thumbs up for this one.
    When the Wave 2 came out I was really exited, because the Wave 1 had some extremly cool sounds and possibility, I just didn't like it because of its harsh and shrieking overall sound. But having heard a lot of demos and tutorial on it I'm quite dissapointed because there's nothing I've heard that impresses me in any way. Everything I've heard so far sounds like a JV 2080 (yes, certainly with a better user interface) there seems nothing that comes close to real wavetable synthesis, it seems to be a keyboard for the worship and coverband player, but not a Synthesizer that surprises you with new an previously unheard Sounds in the sense of the synth pioneers thar wanted to hear the previously unheard. So at this price Tag a total looser. If you think of buying one: get yourself a 2080 for 300.- bucks on eBay for the honking saxophones ans superfluous church organs and a NL4 for the synth fun. And you've still saved some money an can invite your girlfriend for dinner.

      I've been reflecting on your comment over the last several hours and putting a little thought into how I feel about this topic. I tend to agree with some key points you said. In particular, the attraction in the worship and cover band segments. And in reading some of the feedback on the Wave 2 on the Nord User Forums, there are many there that reflect on it the fact that it would be "better" if it has more synth features such as multiple LFOs, more advanced control over the waveforms/wavetables, and more emphasis on wavetable synthesis in general (especially since it's called a "Wave" keyboard). This combined with the expensive price tags have a few people feeling the same way as you. As I look at the wide variety of keyboards one can purchase today, I'm in awe at just how many choices the consumer has. In the end, I think it comes down to brand familiarity and features relative to price as to why one chooses one over the other.
      For me personally, I'm now familiar with the Nord architecture so I see that as a big advantage and I'm willing to pay more for that (similar to what you said). But I can see how others (who haven't yet purchased a Nord), may pause longer to consider other options depending on what they're looking for. For example, if you're looking for a pure synth (which I think is the main focus on what you've been hinting towards), you can spend a lot less and get a whole lot more with other brands perhaps.
      As I reflect back on the other brands I've used over the years, I have owned Korg and Roland through most of my music career and I never once learned them at the level I have learned Nord. Now, because I've made it past the learning curve (which really wasn't bad), I feel a lot more capable and that has been very rewarding. I remember using only 5% of my Korg Triton and 10% of my Roland D-50 and 5% Of the Roland JV-90 etc. I never took the time to dive in and learn the architecture of those synths. The things I'm doing now with the Nord keyboards has been most fulfilling (learning how to create famous sounds for example).
      In the end, I have a few of those same feelings you have and I hope Clavia continues to innovate and deliver even more value than they do today as they look to the future. There is certainly a ton of competition on their heals. Thanks again for your comment and thoughts especially since you are a long-time Nord owner. Much appreciated for your input here!

      @@MyKeysToMusic Hi Mark! You probably noticed I’ve been replying to a few of your posts/videos as I get ready to purchase the NW2. What you stated about understanding a small percentage of synths you have owned prior to learning about Nords completely resonates with me! I’ve actually used those exact words to describe my experience when I owned (and loved) my Korg Kronos; I understood about 10% of it. But what I did learn I really enjoyed.
      A question regarding the NW2: am I able to sustain one layer with my sustain pedal while I continue to play other layers like you can on the NS3? For example, sustain some strings in layer one while continuing to play layers 2-4 simultaneously?
      Some other aspects of purchasing a Nord that appeal to me are you and your tutorials! You make everything so easy to understand and that is a huge advantage to me (and no I am not a plant 😁)
      Thanks so much!
      Joel

      @@jfishnotes9177 So to answer your question about the sustain. The answer is no, the sustain cannot be independently assigned to each layer. It's all or nothing. A bit of a disappointment to be sure. I've been using a combination of hold/sustain to get the job done but ideally, I would have liked an assignment by layer option.

      @@MyKeysToMusic thanks for the info Mark! Yep, that is indeed a bummer; but not a dealbreaker. My Wave 2 is ordered and should arrive by tomorrow or Saturday.

      Hi blue name. Unfortunately, I don't know much about the UDO to provide a fair comparison for you. I did find this thread however which might give you something to start with: www.reddit.com/r/synthesizers/comments/eocyi3/nord_wave_2_vs_udo_super_6/
