What beautiful playing, Marc, and great visuals to accompany the music. Bach is heavenly, for sure! :) I hope you enjoyed NAMM 2020; I've been transfixed to the various UA-cam videos that have emerged since then - based on what I've seen, I think Nord Wave 2 looks closer to what I'm after in synth terms than the Roland X synthesiser would be; I see a lot of folk trying out vintage patches with that, but no videos have given any clear indication what the programming capabilities are like. I'm loving the Stage 3 so much (and I've recently uploaded the White Grand - wow, that has to be the best piano sample to date, superseding even the Royal Grand 3D), I think I can safely say I'm a Nord man now! These Symphobia Strings are of exceptional quality. SO much to get excited about!!
Hi Mark! Thanks so much for your warm compliments. It is rewarding to see you getting to know and love your Stage 3. So yes, I think the Wave 2 will be amazing. So much time in the demos so far has been spent on the "synthy stuff" that it can do - and that's awesome for sure. But so much of the sampling/layering capability appears to have been overlooked/overshadowed a bit. I plan on digging this out and refining it for all of us to discover/enjoy over this year. Oh and read my response to Rebecca in the comments here on my future plans...
What a relief! My most unpreferred synth sample is those scratchy violins! This is great, and so is the timing. I am covering Led Zeppelin this month and this will go well with "Kashmir"!!! :D
Hi Rebecca! Wow, covering Kashmir - that should be fun! For those, you'll want a nice tight sustain (or very little sustain) and fast attack and just a touch of reverb. It's almost as if the bow of the strings is barely touching to make the sound. Hi Marc, excellent videos as usual! I really enjoy your patient teacher's approach in your videos. I have 2 questions for you regarding sample/programs: 1) Did you find the default string samples lacking/artificial as I did? I tried to build some patch for Christian devotional playing (Grand + Strings) but they just sounded uninspiring, but I'd like to use something other than just "Soft Pad" for my pads. Or did you tweak parameters and find them useful for your purposes? (I think we've got similar genre) 2) Were there any batch of programs/samples that you removed as you began loading your NS3 with patches/samples you like? I ask because I downloaded Symphobia as well as other official Nord patches they put out like C3P0, etc. but there's NO ROOM and I have to offboard sounds first before I can even try these... I understand it's purely personal taste and you can always reset, but being a new owner myself (got it in Feb!) I'm trying not to overhaul my board. Insights appreciated!
Hi Eric K. Sorry for the delay on this response here. Let me try to answer these: 1) Some of the original strings are not nearly as good as the Symphobia ones but with tweaking, you can enhance just about any sample starting point. I tend to play with the envelope, frequency cutoff and envelope a bit which can make an impact one way or another. 2) I tend to open up the Nord Sound Manager and sort from largest sample to smallest. I remove a lot of the larger ones that I don't need. If you start with the larger ones first, you have less overall to remove to make room for the new stuff. I also tend to setup the keyboard based on if I'm using it for a gig versus something in the studio. Technically speaking, if your needs were vastly different between occasions, you could create an entire backup and then restore from that backup based on the what you need to do on a given day. Hopefully this provided some perspective for you. Good luck with your setups and thanks for watching!

Haven't tried them live yet and the groups I play in don't call from string sounds. They certainly do the trick on the classical stuff and they were born to work with movie scores/symphonic environments out of the box.
@@MyKeysToMusic Yes, I was off for a while. It was hard to remain excited over spending so much on an instrument that was not making me any money. I've programmed a total of 1 song in 'Song' mode. (quite by accident, I'm sure)
How do I access certain 'Sample' sounds when I want to create a split or layer?
@@hot88s23 Welcome back! Have a look at this video. It explains splitting two samples. After watching this, you likely understand how to split your keyboard and then how to select a given sample as well: ua-cam.com/video/72jPR9LZUG8/v-deo.html. Good luck!

Hello @Robert Michalscheck Yes, the demo part of the video starts at ua-cam.com/video/HN9WJNmkUKk/v-deo.html I've also just included chapter markers directly in the video for those who don't enjoy my longish pre-amble and wish to scrub directly to the meat of the video.
@@MyKeysToMusic okay,thx
