Okay, looking at gear shift when you were behind the wheel, are you in 6th gear????? Boy yanking that disk across the field now aren't ya!!! Hell of a tractor! Thanks for sharing!
Id mount that air cleaner off to the side down by frame to get a better view and look way better i love my 3208 cat in my 2255 4wd nice Johnny for sure
Saw these comments and we have a Steiger bearcat series 1 with a 3160 in almost perfect condition. I’m going to fire it up and take it to FFA tractor day. I’m going to try and get a video of it and put it on my Chanel, it should be pretty cool.
Lot 3208 mentions on here. You said was the predecessor of the 3208 right? I've driven several trucks and a school bus with the 3208. We got one as an irragator motor. Just a good engine.all of them were N.A. engines rated at 210 hp at 2100-2300rpms. Supposedly there is a high power N.A. rated at 250. I've never seen or operated a turbo model. This engine sounds pretty damn strong!
3160 cat - same engine as early oliver 2255s had. I think the later ones used 3208s. No clue which is better, but I've heard a few guys praise the 3160 and poo at the 3208s. Sometimes that's just "we don't like any changes" guys, though.
Renner Stock Farms I’ve never heard of a 3140 but there was a 3145. Steiger used it in the series 1 wildcat (the RSC-175, not the super.) you’d be hard pressed to find a 3145 though
5010s and 5020s were underpowered for how heavy they were built. Their motors weren't designed to be turbocharged, so that's where the repower came into play. This was offered by M&W, Kinze offered the Detroit, Mead offered the Cummins.
Should have mesh guard. Can get dangerous when those V8 cats explode! Probably the worst motor Cat ever built. Put a 5.9 Cummins in and actually improve the tractor.
So when you think about it that's just 190hp at 2800rpm! and the original 531 engine produced 133hp(5020) at 2100 lol so not far off at all lol they should have just messed with The Governors and got more hp out of them or! just choose the Detroit re-powers;P
I forgot to mention the 160 gallons of windshield washer fluid in each rear tire. If you start adding too much weight that is when the rear end really starts hurting. But I agree, it could use more!
Love the sound, and low end power of a Cat.
5010, 5020, and 6030, Most bad ass tractor Deere ever produced
Can’t mistake the sound of a V8 Cat!
Caterpillar V8's, the best sounding V8's in my opinion!
Thats bad ass, right there
Okay, looking at gear shift when you were behind the wheel, are you in 6th gear????? Boy yanking that disk across the field now aren't ya!!! Hell of a tractor! Thanks for sharing!
Yeah, definitely too fast lol
I like the intake it's a muscle tractor
What ever you guys do to those tractors they sure sound sweet

What is road speed, flat out on asphalt ?
Should be about 23 wide open, next time we get it out we will have to test that!
Are you guys ever gonna get ahold Of any barn series or series 1 Steigers? I know the Bearcat 1 had a 3160
We are always open to expanding our collection, I'm sure if we found one in good shape for a reasonable price we would be interested.

@@nathanringwald1103 I’d love to see video of it
How’s the horsepower and torque compared to original engine? Ours was a dog until it got a 7520 engine.
Noticeably more power, it really comes alive in the higher RPMS.
Then you have a 6030 equivalent.
Need a bigger plow. That one doesn't load the engine at all.
Well, its a disk, but yes it doesn't load the engine hardly at all.
Isn’t that one of lance littles old repowers?
Yes this and the 4520 are his old repowers.
Renner Stock Farms ok I thought I’d seen them before my dad used to work for him and I’ve been around them all
Is that a 1460 disk
I believe so, but I am not sure.
Do you have a 6030( the pig as I use to call them) in your field of use tractors. If you do I like to see a video of one and hear that sound
We have 2 of them, they will definitely get a video at some point!
@@RennerStockFarms thanks I'll be looking forward. I use to farm with one.
How's this thing run compared to a stock turbocharged 6030? Rated RPM is pretty high!!

Configurated?
My degree is in engineering, not grammar
Pulling too fast looks like to me. Cutting the life of the disks in half. But to each his own. The tractor looks great with this setup.
I would definitely agree with that, we were going too fast.
Where's the other half of the disk?
Yeah seriously! It could use another one for sure.
I'm pretty sure that air cleaner would fit under the hood with a little creativity
Easily, but that is how the kit came from M&W so we are going to leave it like that.
If you put it under the hood it will gather more dirt and harder to change.
I feel sorry for that poor disc.
6th gear?
We definitely ran it too fast, worked much better in 4th and 5th.
Just never did think the 3160 sounded like a cat, however it was mainly a boat engine.
Do you have any 4020 re-power videos
Not yet, we do have a 4020 with a Caterpillar that will hopefully have a video soon!
@@RennerStockFarms cool beans - looking to do a re-power to my old 65 - 4020
@@davidgalenbeck7616 u ever repower it?
Looks a lot alike a 3208. Maybe a touch smaller cid?
3160 is the predecessor of the 3208. Same displacement
Isn't that a NA 3208? What's a 3160? I've heard of a 3116, but that's an inline 6 6.6L that Cat made. Just wondering.

It is a 3160. They also made a 3140 and 3150.
David W the early 2255s had a 3150 which was 573 cubic inches

That intake looks like hammered ass. The rest is awesome though lol
Its unfortunate that M&W made the kit that way, at least its easy to check the pre-cleaner!
@@RennerStockFarms lmao thats very true hahah is it hard to see over and or around?
@@SouthSaskFarmer1 Yes its pretty obnoxious lol
@@RennerStockFarms i bet buddy lmao
Dont look as fast as the Detroit. But it was cool
Sounds a hell of a lot better in my opinion
Why would you want to put a junky cat V 8 in a tractor

ask oliver. They put the 3160 in the 2255 and lots of people like them.
Poor disc..you should have plenty of ridges for years to come..lol..very neat old tractor.Thand 4 sharing
We were definitely running it too fast.
Put that 45' disk on . Let's see her pull.lol
Though it would look odd behind that tractor I wonder how big a high speed disk that would pull.
I wonder too, it needs more weight and better tires to get its power to the ground.
Should have mesh guard. Can get dangerous when those V8 cats explode! Probably the worst motor Cat ever built. Put a 5.9 Cummins in and actually improve the tractor.
5.9 Cummins would not be a big enough motor for that. That motor won’t be getting too many miles on it in the future so I wouldn’t worry about it.
These m&w repower Cat 3160 5010s are extremely rare. As rare as any kinze repower, maybe more.
I prefer the Cat or the Cummins over those Detroit conversions. Way too loud. An in-line is always the best choice.
So when you think about it that's just 190hp at 2800rpm! and the original 531 engine produced 133hp(5020) at 2100 lol so not far off at all lol they should have just messed with The Governors and got more hp out of them or! just choose the Detroit re-powers;P
Need to drop a 3406b in it. Just saying
That would be sweet!
🙄absolutely not. This conversion is super rare.
On the farm with Will
Mate 3160 is only a pup! You need a 3208..
Who else is here because of "Big Tractor Power?"
Definitely need to weight that tractor down. Then you could put some bigger implements behind it. Looks like it slips alot
I forgot to mention the 160 gallons of windshield washer fluid in each rear tire. If you start adding too much weight that is when the rear end really starts hurting. But I agree, it could use more!
