I had to explain the numbered water trough pipes to a very befuddled Pip 😅 We watched this live on our TV and needless to say she was quite confused at times 😅 throwbacks were lovely, nice to have seen a little bit of Welshpool which I've yet to properly see beyond the terminus station 👀
@@Terrier55Stepney so neither Talyllyn and Douglas ever used the original water tower anyways?? Unless their pipes are misplaced 🤔 Ah dw at all the bits present were lovely 😁
@@Terrier55Stepneyi also liked the reminder of GWSR: you having visited it before joining us in Barmouth was how I ended up visiting it days later. Literally had never heard of it before and I was laughably fuming at Cherry and practically everyone on the planet going, "Did nobody ever think to tell me that there is a heritage railway right next to Cheltenham??? 😂 Horses and trains in one setting, I will legit consider retiring there in a few decades!
@@TheBlueE2 Oh yeah the racecourse!! Douglas never used the original water tower but Talyllyn did, it just hadn't in preservation since the columns were reconstructed whilst she was under overhaul.
@@Terrier55StepneyThat is absolutely amazing that you’ve got Old Grump from TheBlueE2’s series. Oh by the way, did you say you’ve got a Stepney Money box?
There is more to the hardware on the W&L than just the two original 0-6-0 tank engines, 'The Earl' and 'Countess'. In the last six decades, the Welshpool & Llanfair Light Railway Preservation Company acquired engines and coaches from other 2ft 6in gauge railways around the world, including Austria, Romania, Sierra Leone, and even the Caribbean!
In the beginning, Raven Square station in Welshpool was simply a halt. Situated one mile from the nearest mainline station, the W&L had even thread its way through the town to connect with the mainline. But the tracks had to be taken up when BR shut down the W&L in 1956. Fortunately by 1963, the W&L was restored albeit between Llanfair (pronounced 'llan-vire') Caereinion and Castle Caereinion, before reinstating the track between Castle Caereinion and the new station at Raven Square in 1981.
There's a mannequin like the one in the coach in a brake van in the museum at the Bo'ness and Kinneil Railway. Its linked to a sensor that turns on a dim light and speakers which plays a recording of a voice and its terrifying XD
A Southern man? I don't blame you! I was born in South London but now, I have the privilege of living in GWR territory. In this case, the South Devon coast.
I genuinely thought Tom Rolt had been repainted and given a face irl when I saw the thumbnail. I was like: “What? It’s nowhere near time for the next Awdry Extravaganza!” Then I saw it was a model and felt a little disappointment and a lot of clarity.

Trains are confusing! Sorry there weren't more wedding clips, I thought some of the dancing ones probably weren't something for this video! xD

Nice to find Henry’s real life counterpart for the circus train
Talyllyn railway engines with faces makes it look like the real-life skarloey railway for a tv show.
