We're are adopting a retired greyhound tomorrow. Bruce formally known as broadway bruce is almost 5 years old ( his birthday is in less than 3 weeks) Originally from Ireland who then raced all over the UK before he retired due to injury a few months ago and ended up in a greyhound rescue. We've been looking to adopt for months but never thought of a greyhound till friends suggested a local rescue. So we looked online and one chap caught our eye because the name Bruce is something we all call each other at home. We went to visit the next day and took several dogs out for a walk we took Bruce out several times. He was so calm and chilled and very loving. Never once did he make a sound. When we had to return him and hand him over he stopped turned around and began to cry while trying to pull towards us. Well we burst into tears ... we realised we just couldn't leave him. We then went to the manager to discuss adoption. A home check later several visits .. and tomorrow he will meet our children and all been well he will be coming home with us to begin his new life in his forever home. I'm so excited to bring our special boy home and love him in conditionally x
As soon as the clip played of him racing in the beginning I started bawling my eyes out! Makes me emotional how much they go through because humans are IDIOTS when it comes to exploiting beautiful creatures. Bless you for saving this soul.
xx Ana I absolutely hate the exploitation of greyhounds they should be pets not bets. it is a despicable exploitation of these beautiful dogs putting their lives at risk on purpose for entertainment and financial gain will never, ever be justified to me.
I notice when I walk on the trails at the local park that I have never seen a greyhound that tries to pull on the leash. Often, at the park, the most well behaved dogs on the trails are always the greyhounds.
If only all pet owners were as responsible as you, to put serious thought, consideration and research into adopting a pet. Thanks for sharing :) Hope all is going well with Magnus.
Here in the USA most Greyhound adoption places do a background check before letting someone adopt. They want to know that you are a responsible pet owner. We lost Flying Carl in 2011 to terminal cancer, and we still mourn his loss. He was just shy of 14 years old, so we had his love for nearly 12 years. He turned 2 years old right after we adopted him. He raced at a track in Wisconsin until it closed.
@@johnayres5182 ......Im grateful you adopted him and pray you let him live till very end. As in did not put him down as soon as he was diagnosed, waited till he was sick? Just like humans when we get sick, we don't want to Die right then! At least not untill we lose our love for life cuz its just not livable\ bearable\ painful\ etc. Hope my comment makes sense? If not, do ask me .
I've researched dog breeds and behavior since I was about 8 years old, but I actually met a Greyhound for the first time last week at a large pet adoption event. Greyhounds were never my favorite breed, but I totally fell in love with the Greyhounds that I met there. Now, I'm considering adopting a retired racing Greyhound within the next few months!
We adopted a greyhound 3 weeks ago and they are the best dogs in the world you will not regret it. They are over 8000 years old and originate from Egypt. The pharoes worshipped them. Because they are one of the original dogs the majority of dog breeds were bred from them, this means greyhounds have very few health problems as they are a true pure breed. Our dog is so calm and placid and you will fall in love with them!
So it's a year later, did you adopt???? Like you, before I met one they didn't thrill me. But I adopted one 4 years ago, and can't believe how sweet, gentle and playful he is. I'll never get any other breed of dog. Greyhounds absolutely steal your heart away!
I LOVE TO ADOPT A GREYHOUND, BUT live in southeast Germany, near the autrian border. Can you please tell me where I can adopt the dog..I only ger addresses from cannels in Spain, but I want a dog which is used to live in a house and not too young, because I am allready retired, so the dog must suit me. Honestly heartbreaking... knowing how much cruelty greyhounds go through, the racing footage makes my heart sink. It's truely pure of you to rescue this boy.
he's so cute! i had a rescue greyhound named emmett and sadly he passed away 10 years ago but he was a great dog. greyhounds are one of the best breeds to have because they are so gentle and loving.
Our new lady arrived today! She is our third from over the years. Crumble is pleased to see how Magnus has settled. She hopes she will feel the same in a few days.
jose amram I think it is a bit of a two edged sword. Greys are very healthy and hardy for a tall breed. They have been ruthlessly bred for a racing career. They are docile, tough and tender. They are used to vet checks, many handlers, grooming, and travelling. Their noble nature shines through. I think the industry is cruel at times but a total ban can be very catastrophic. Instead of moving into an adoption or breeding situation, the dogs are suddenly run to the ground or euthanized. Adoption programs have no dogs going forward and this magnificent breed becomes marginalized. It is a bit of problem when a dog’s purpose disappears. I really don’t think any breed does well if it is relegated to the show ring or pet status. JMHO
@@catherinelynnfraser2001 I agree and I think it could be detrimental to stop greyhound racing all together. I believe they do love to race, and not all people involved in it abuse their dogs. If the sport was improved to be safer and inhumane, that might be better. The breed is so well preserved because of the sport, it seems.
We adopted a racing Greyhound several years ago. He is gone now because of terminal Cancer. His name was Flying Carl, and we just called him Carl. We've had several dogs in our lifetime, but our Greyhound was the best. I know you'll enjoy sharing life with your Greyt. For a while we wintered in Florida, and most gated communities have a size restriction on dogs, so we adopted a small dog after Carl passed on. I don't know about where you live, but here in the USA racing Greyhounds were mistreated by breeders. I will not buy a dog from a breeder, but rather adopt and possibly save the life of a good dog. People are missing out because the Greyhound is very loving, hardly ever bark, and very laid back. Greyt's are not a breed that you'd want for a watch dog, as they would welcome anyone entering your home (LOL). Since we don't winter in Florida, we have been considering adopting another Greyt. Enjoy your Greyt dog, because they are great.
They are great dogs. The reason for me making videos was to help persuade others that they are worth welcoming into your home and that you are the better for it.
This is my favourite greyhound video, hands down! So nice that you were able to find footage of his racing career! A big beautiful boy he is your Magnus! Give him a miniature meatball for me.
Good on you for rescuing a Greyhound and being your first ever Dog. You wont regret it and may even want to rescue another one as many people do as they are low maintainence and great company for each other especially with any anxiety issues in being left alone for too long. I have an Irish Greyhoud, Fergus (see photo inset) I wouldn't have another breed of Dog now - Greyhounds are THE BEST! wishing you many happy years with Magnus. Love from Kinross.
Many states in "the states" are closing the racing industry for greyhounds effective at the end of 2020. My hope is that all retired racers go to amazing homes, such as yours. Magnus seems to be an amazing young man and I am so thrilled your family had the opportunity to adopt him and give him a wonderful post-racing life. Greyhounds are wonderful family members!Sal (Bella Salvo) came home to me at age 2 - he and the track didn't mix so well. I think he was more into the human affection side of things versus the racing - lucky him! All of his littermates raced and (I checked!) were all adopted in their retirement. I cannot say enough about Greyhounds as family members. Sal loves car rides, tasty bits of cheeses, neck rubs, lazing about the house in sunny or comfy spots... Sal has a wonderful disposition. He's sweet, goofy, skippy and can be cheeky if he needs attention (attacking my slippers when I am sleeping in or taking too long in the bath).Yes, potential adopters, you need a greyhound in your life!
Sled dog racing should be next. Its even worse than greyhound racing. Mushing is fine. But racing leads to to much overbreeding and heavy handed tactics.
I'm considering/hoping/planning to adopt a retired greyhound next year and have been finding your videos really helpful. Pros and cons all realistically put across. I'm getting very fond of Magnus. Keep 'em coming.

Great video. We're hopping to speak to our land lady about adopting our own Greyhound. I'm a bit worried about the separation anxiety aspect regarding a greyhound. Any tips?
I want a Greyhound or Galgo too in the near future, such lovely dogs. Magnus suits him well. I do have one question: why do some dogs have muscles on why walking?
Some greyhounds wear muzzles as they are recently rehomed (from being racing dogs) and they may still a desire to chase things such as cats and squirrels. etc. Magnus wore a muzzle for his first week when we brought him home until we felt comfortable that he did not need it. he has not worn it since.
Hi! I’m Slinky’s dad - think you met my wife walking him yesterday :). I’m writing an article this weekend for a short writing course I’m doing at Edinburgh Uni, and I’m wondering if there’s any way of contacting you to get a couple of quotes? Thanks, Steve :)
Happy to assist with any questions you may have. I have made several videos about our adoption process and life with Magnus. happy to fill in any knowledge gaps.
Magnus is fairly settled into his routine now. but he did whimper and whine when we were first dealing with his separation anxiety. we eventually figured out what worked for Magnus for him to feel relaxed in our absence
He does not shed much. a couple of times a year. we have a shedding blade which will take out most of the loose hair. so we will use it when we see that he is starting to shed.
Imagine finding a 3 year old Ferrari on a used car lot for $20k. That's about the same thing as adopting a greyhound. You don't 'rescue' them, you get a good deal on the perfect dog.
Remember don't let your greyhound chase cars in suburban streets. With the speed limits they can catch the cars and they have no idea what to do with them.
We do our best to make sure our pups are comfortable. Greyhounds do not have sweat glands and will pant to cool themselves down. If our pups are getting too hot in the house we will open a window for them to cool off. Greyhounds also sometimes pant if they are stressed. Our Greyhound Scout is scared of thunder and fireworks and will pant if she is stressed. We will do all we can to make her comfortable in these occasions. Thanks for your concern.

lurchers and whippets are just as good as greyhounds! whippets are smallest out of the three similar size to a labrador lurchers are in the middle and greyhounds are largest of all
All dogs are great. But a Greyhound is a Greyhound. The best!
great Video. thanks for sharing.
It's like you adopted herbie the car buggy
You are good people!
Thank you for your kind words. just trying to do our best by Magnus.
Could you do a video on the separation training?

This is so helpful Thank you 🙏
Thanks for watching. Glad you found the videos useful
Beatifurl Dog. Congratulations
thank you for your kind words.
Great video. We're hopping to speak to our land lady about adopting our own Greyhound. I'm a bit worried about the separation anxiety aspect regarding a greyhound. Any tips?
About to upload a second video about Magnus were I talk about the issues we had with separation anxiety. Hopefully will be of some insight.
He is a champ
I want a Greyhound or Galgo too in the near future, such lovely dogs. Magnus suits him well.
I do have one question: why do some dogs have muscles on why walking?
Some greyhounds wear muzzles as they are recently rehomed (from being racing dogs) and they may still a desire to chase things such as cats and squirrels. etc. Magnus wore a muzzle for his first week when we brought him home until we felt comfortable that he did not need it. he has not worn it since.
Degs Gunn okee thanks!
God bless you!!!
Thank you for your kind words. Just doing what we can.
My family are thinking if we should get a Greyhound🤔
They are great dogs. I was anti getting a dog until I met Greyhounds.
I'm asking my dad for a greyhound I use to be scared because they were so big
A nice little video.
Hi! I’m Slinky’s dad - think you met my wife walking him yesterday :). I’m writing an article this weekend for a short writing course I’m doing at Edinburgh Uni, and I’m wondering if there’s any way of contacting you to get a couple of quotes? Thanks, Steve :)
Sorry - just asked Karen and she said it was your dog walker she met, but you’ve met Slinky before :)
Degs Gunn many thanks! Email sent :)
It's not just about the dogs and how they suffered but whatever everyone in the world is blind
Leah DiCaprio not anymore. It is moving forward. More protests and fewer and fewer watch it now.
My dogs name is Magnus too!!!
say hi to your Magnus :)
He is so fast...
I am interested in adopting greyhound. can you guide me pls.
Happy to assist with any questions you may have. I have made several videos about our adoption process and life with Magnus. happy to fill in any knowledge gaps.
I just adopted a racing grey hand his racing name was chrissy p his new name is crispy pea he is beautiful
Hope crisp pea settles in to their new hope quickly. best wishes
thank you for helping him ❤❤❤
People are always going on about wanting a purebred dog. Greyhounds are the least expensive purebred dogs on the market, and they’re the BEST.
They certainly are
How did the separation part go? ...Did he cry at all?
Magnus is fairly settled into his routine now. but he did whimper and whine when we were first dealing with his separation anxiety. we eventually figured out what worked for Magnus for him to feel relaxed in our absence
So fluffy
your name is innapropriate you need to change it!
Magnus - how is that inapropriate?
Get over it!
How is it inappropriate?
How’s Magnus doing?!
The pups are doing well. Thanks for asking.
Does he shed much?
He does not shed much. a couple of times a year. we have a shedding blade which will take out most of the loose hair. so we will use it when we see that he is starting to shed.
Magnus is a handsome boy.
Thanks for your kind words.
@@magnusgreyhound your very welcome
❤
Thanks for watching
Imagine finding a 3 year old Ferrari on a used car lot for $20k. That's about the same thing as adopting a greyhound. You don't 'rescue' them, you get a good deal on the perfect dog.
Thanks for watching.

Greyhounds make greyt pets :3
Remember don't let your greyhound chase cars in suburban streets. With the speed limits they can catch the cars and they have no idea what to do with them.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts
Please sir
I don't understand why people see their dog panting and do Nothing to aliveate their pets discomfort ??
We do our best to make sure our pups are comfortable. Greyhounds do not have sweat glands and will pant to cool themselves down. If our pups are getting too hot in the house we will open a window for them to cool off. Greyhounds also sometimes pant if they are stressed. Our Greyhound Scout is scared of thunder and fireworks and will pant if she is stressed. We will do all we can to make her comfortable in these occasions. Thanks for your concern.
pmsl ,, asleep up the wall... fair play to guys.
Those poor dogs who had to race...
Pretty sure he has a happier life now.
Hello sir I am dog adopting
great! ❤
I dislike creates for any animal. Unless they are going to the vet.
Grey hound, horse racing, dog racing in Alaska should be banned. These animals have no voice to say no I don't want to race. Very sad.
Thanks for watching. Just trying to do my bit to promote Greyhounds as pets
