  • Robin D. G. Kelley delivers the 13th Annual Robert Fitch Memorial Lecture at LaGuardia Community College, CUNY. Introduced by Karen Miller, Professor of History at LaGuardia, and Doug Henwood.
ROBIN D. G. KELLEY is Gary B. Nash Professor of American History at UCLA, a contributing editor at Boston Review, and the author of many books, including Freedom Dreams: The Black Radical Imagination and Hammer and Hoe: Alabama Communists During the Great Depression. In this lecture, Kelley discusses how Robert Fitch’s critique of American “union democracy” as well as his work on international labor solidarity can help us understand current divisions over Palestine within U.S. organized labor.
The annual Robert Fitch Memorial Lecture is presented by LaGuardia’s Social Sciences Department in honor of Dr. Robert Fitch, who taught in the department from 1993 to 2011. The series is made possible by the generosity of the late Jane LaTour. LaGuardia Community College, a Hispanic-Serving Institution, located in Long Island City, Queens offers more than 50 degrees and certificates, and more than 65 continuing education programs to educate New Yorkers seeking new skills and careers.

Kelley's argument that Israel seeks not only Palestinians' land but also to labor (made possible by the expropriation of their land) is excellent, well-supported. The comparison of Palestinian labor exploited by Israel to migrant/Latinx labor at the US-Mexico border is important. 42:20.
