  • HUGE THANK YOU TO DIY WATCH CLUB & NAMOKI MODS!!
DIY and Namoki are the leaders in their respective fields, and they have been gracious enough to play along with my little challenge. The purpose of this video is to compare what the two top companies offer in comparison on a simple pilot-style watch kit. While the tools provided are amazing, they are not the only components I will be comparing. Today we see what the kits offer. Next time we will build them, and finally compare the watches themselves.
P.S. I'm going to give the watches away, after building them on the channel, to a couple of you lucky sods! Details about all of that will come in a later video. Links below to the kits. Cheers!
Full disclosure, I was sent these kits to do this comparison, and do not have to return them. That being said, my opinions are my own.

Really nice kit from DIY watch club, it's interesting to see how they've made watch building/assembly so accessible in recent years, it's a good thing - when I started building and modding I ended up having to buy a watchmakers box from Germany (I still haven't used half the tools) but there was no half decent kits with good quality tools on the market unless you got lucky on eBay with something used - or had a a LOT of money for indulging in the Bergeon catalogue!

I agree, the kit from DIY is really nice, and extremely well thought out. The Namoki kit, while being more bare bones, is still everything needed to get started. Both kits are great, they just cater to different types of modders. Namoki is perfect for those just wanting to jump in and not spend too much at first. DIY is better suited for people who have a little more money and are willing to pay the extra for a few better tools and a beautiful presentation. The Namoki kit is for a hobbyist, while the DIY kit makes a wonderful gift.

Subscribed a bit back as my girlfriend loves your channel for some reason. Clean, quality content. About to build my first watch when the parts finally arrive. Very excited.

Great video thanks! 👍My life long general love of watches moved to a full blown obsession a few months ago when I turned 60. I am considering building my own watch some day. I do like the DWC offerings more than others I've seen and may go in that direction for my first build. Please throw my name in the hat for the give away of the PVD Black Pilot watch. I can't wait to watch more of your videos. Thanks for sharing!! Get well soon😷

Discovered you because of the roast video Nate Black did. I love watches and I'm mildly into watch mods. Looking forward to seeing where your channel goes in future! Also I have a mod idea I'd love to come to fruition some day. Take one of the Seiko 5 GMTs, get it PVD / DLC coated so it's blacked out, then get a plum coloured dial, replace the GMT hand with a green one and get the bezel purple at the top, forest green at the bottom.

Thank you so much! Welcome aboard, and YAY Nate!
That's where it all starts, an idea. Make it happen! Your design sounds great, and is 100% achievable! All the parts are out there if you have the patience to go looking.

@@dadmodswatches Maybe it's a project I could send your way some time since I'm not ready for that level of work yet. Going to try one of the DIY watch kits in the future.

So far this is the only kit of theirs that I have reviewed. Possibly more in the future. @@ColinLack

My first watch mod was with DIY Watch Club and now I’m addicted. I haven’t tried a Namoki kit but that’s because I’ve already made quite a few mods. That being said, I think Namoki has a great range of custom parts and if I were starting over or recommending to a friend, I’d probably go Namoki. Just started the video though so maybe you’ll tell me I’m wrong haha.

I think it would all depend on the friend. The Namoki kit seems best suited for the "modding" type of people who love taking things apart, and the myriad of options available. The DIY kit feels more like a graduation gift, or something to remember a special moment. Both would be a great place to start, with everything you need already thought of for you!

@@dadmodswatches just finished the video now. I loved building my DIY kit, funnily enough I lost it off the Ogden point breakwater on Vancouver island. If anyone wants a free (hunk of rust)DIY watch, take a look there haha. Excited for the next few videos! Always impressed by your consistency! I tried making a video of one of my builds and it was not a success haha. Cheers!
