Adding Faux Patina to Dial - Watch Aging Guide #1
Вставка
- Опубліковано 15 лип 2024
- We baked a dial! This is a new series of guides on making an aged watch mod. We'll start the series by applying a faux patina to the lume indices on a watch dial, thus creating an aged look. We outline two methods to achieve this aging effect, one using dry used coffee ground, and one without. For both methods, we’ll use an oven.
The aging mod series will proceed with one video detailing the process of one particular watch component. This video deals with watch dials, and in the next video we’ll age the hands. Stay tuned!
Disclaimer: The methods outlined in this video are intended for DIY hobbyists only. We do not support the use of these techniques for the purpose of forging fake vintage timepieces.

You guys are a treasure to the community! Thanks for getting so many of us started in modding ❤️
Hope you find it useful! Thanks!
I’ve been getting into modding lately. You guys are incredible, you have helped me A LOT
Had to come back to thank you for tips ! It took several hours but your guidance and know-how made that easier 😇 Many thanks for that ! Dial turned out to look perfect
That is excellent. Faux patina is all the rage right now so it’s interesting to see it can be done at home. I have that dial spare here so I might have to try this out with a new case.look forward to the rest of this series!
Do give it a go! We had so much fun making this video, so you'll surly have fun as well!
This is wonderful!
Thank you!
Thank you for your kind comment!
wooooow another killer video!! You guys are doing god's work.
Thank you for the kind words, appreciate it!
Very useful video thanks !
Glad you liked it!
Lot easier way I found was coffee and tea staining. No risk of failure! Accidently came across this myself while about to do your method.
I like to take some off-white paint, add some sulphur and chill it in the fridge before applying. I call it Funky Cold Patina. You.are.welcome.
Wow very cool. Good video. So the coffee only stains the lume and not the dial printing? Those sure look good.
That’s awesome. I love the tropical look but don’t feel comfortable wearing a 20k watch.
Awesome video! Can this technic work on hands? as it is much thinner, would the metal eventually bend ?
Whens the case aging coming out? I got a submariner build itching for some case ageing
How can I patina the pearl on a submariner bezel?
wow so coooool ~
Yeah watch aging is pretty cool!
@@DIYWatchClub I have instagram following you. I'm also making my own brand watches. I like your product design and packaging style very much. Very creative.👍
@@benny7771 That's amazing! Good luck with your brand!
I can do that same color with a marker but trade secret I can't tell you which color marker. It'll look exactly and cleaner.
What happens to the lume itself? Is it functionally destroyed? That is, does the faux patina lume still work as lume?
Thanks for bringing this up! It is indeed an important aspect we didn't cover in the video. In our testing, the lume is still functional and the lume strength only suffers very slightly.
I sent a message suggestion about producing "Snowflake hands" still waiting for that! Then I will get one of these! Please do it!
Do you mean the hands for the Grand Seiko Snowflake? We absolutely love those hands!
@@DIYWatchClub it's Tudor hands😅
Ah I see. That's another classic too!
@@DIYWatchClub please pass it to design team, I really hope there will be Snowflake hands🤝
@@carzakone333 Sure thing I'll let them know👍
anyone done this to a white dial? interested on the results of this.
Interesting idea!
Where is video of aging the case please?
We're working on some other videos at the moment, but we'll return to this series once we're done with the new videos. Stay tuned!
Fake flake. Now go sell it to some investors. 🙄
Oh it's supposed to be for DIYers only. We hate fake vintage watches too.
@@DIYWatchClub No doubt. Keep doing what you guys are doing. I love the concept of getting people into watchmaking and keeping the art alive.
