sir, Buddhism says consciousness itself is the by-product of skandha, consciousness is not independent it depends upon other factors. So how it could take rebirth?? in liberation there is no liberator.
Think about light at the candle. When light is liberated where light go? No one know. when self is liberate consciousness know it is liberated. Consciousness is the one of eight tools to complete the the way of liberation. Not just one. Think about of good sword, there must be good sharpeness, good length, good strength, good weight, good handle, good thickness, and finally the person who who use sword must be consistent then sword will be able to cut every enemy. So, only consciousness cannot make complete liberation. Incomplete liberation take you rebirth by good karma which may be take a very very long time.
