This is what I do.. I love this tp-link Omada router.. have 2 50/5 dsl connections and a 5g tmobile hotspot connection as well.. have an old netgear wireless router as an access point... and a tp-link switch for all my connected devices.. works great!

I have been able to activate the failover feature, but what I really want is to leverage the load balancing feature, as I do not want my second broadband connection to stay idle. Very helpful video. You were very clear. I was wondering if it is possible to know if one of the 2 ISPs is down, so that I could complain to the ISP for repair. Otherwise I may be running in just one ISP without realising that the other is down.

There is also a thing called bonded dsl which is kinda what you was saying but the difference is that its 2 dsl lines with one modem. I have a 15m connection with each dsl running 7 to 8 per line. I am replacing that tomorrow with the new lte version home network running 25 to 50m

What you left off however is that if it’s DSL you’ll need extra information from your DSL provider to access the DSL router properly otherwise the modem won’t load balance and on fact it won’t show any traffic to and from the dsl modem on the wan port it’s connected to. I ran into this with centurylink and I believe it’s the same with the other DSL providers.
Actually that is not correct, if you have a dsl router/modem combo you just need to log in to it and set it to bridge mode, if you have a stand alone modem it will register the ip directly. This is all assuming your modem is already setup and provisioned by your dsl company of course
Let's suppose that there is only client connected to the load balancing router. Will it combine the speed of the two connections? Or would there need to be an internet bonding at our / ISP end ?

You mention that you can use second ISP as backup. I like the idea, but is it possible to configure it in a way that the second ISP is use solely as a backup? I mean if the first ISP is functional, it would not touch the second one. I have one super ultra mega fast IPS and the second one is slow as hell. I do not want any communications randomly assigned to the slow one as long as the ultra super fast connection is working. EDIT: I found that functionality in setup needed for this to work this way is called "Failover". If anyone has similar situation, you need to check if router supports this functionality before buying. Most of them do.
What are the advantages of placing your cable modems into "bridge mode", instead of continuing to use your modems as wireless access points? Do you have a video of your modem configuration? Great video and Thanks in advance!
Using bridge mode also saves processing power of each cable modems so it can focus on your connectivity to the internet. Having a separate wifi modem from you provided modem prevents overheating.
My Question is, if both of them have static public IP, which one will you be using? incase of port forwarding, you'll forward it on both routers 1st and then on the 3rd router or you'll put the two routers in bridge mode and then port forward on the 3rd router?

I hope I am not being too critical here, but the title of "How to Connect 2 Internet Services into 1 Fast one" doesn't seem to apply to your method. With your method, the speed will never be faster than the fastest ISP. With Channel Bonding, you could combine ISPs for faster speeds. Sorry if I missed something you said in the video about this and thanks again!
I suppose that depends on your usage. For one user the speed is as fast as your fastest connection. But for most people with multiple users in your home the overall speed everyone will experience is going to be faster than having just one service. Bonding is great but also more expensive and problematic

@@AdhdPlans This is a very good point and quite relevant as you can bet many users here are hoping that the services can be combined not just for a faster single pipe but also to not lock say a Zoom session into either network circuit. My Starlink drops 2-3 times an hour for 10-15 seconds, just long enough to make it unusable. I have slow DSL but if I could multiplex within a given app session but this would required routing, not just bridging. Note he's turning the ISP routers into bridges (makes sense for them) but I want some intelligence at the routing level. I'm going to look into Channel Bonding, thanks. UPDATE: Wow, the industry is slimy. Channel Bonding really isn't possible. Sigh.

Did you do an attic install? Where are you? In Texas I easily see it overheating in the summer. I see the cables routed and dressed and the shelves installed. The install looks clean, but wouldn't the attic heat cause issues with overheating and power consumption, or UPS problems?

How seamless does the router re-rout a dropped connection? Like say I'm streaming live content and one connection drops, will I experience a lag spike or timeout while it switches over? I just got Starlink and the speeds are great but I run into certain times of the day where it drops over and over again for seconds at a time. It's driving me nuts.
I was wondering the exact same thing. I use StarLink for video conferencing and for WiFi calling on my phone (I'm in a dead zone). The signal is crystal clear, but I'm finding I have problems with calls suddenly dropping. I'm wondering if a failover to my 5Mbps LTE system will prevent that from happening, but not sure if the failover is fast enough.
There is a good possibility you will have access to a 1gbp/s download satellite option by the end of the year when starlink comes online and unlike other services living in the middle of nowhere will mean a better connection. It will be good for general net use along with uploading but bad for gaming until enough ground stations are put in for people to be able to play fully on it and no longer need the internet bridges.
Yes and no. I'm here because I have StarLink currently, but some obstructions cause it to drop fairly often. I need a failover system to address the problems that creates. Currently, StarLink is sometimes as slow as 5Mbps. Both the obstruction and speed issues will be mitigated as more satellites go up. For that matter, we may get a grant to put in Comcast in the next couple of years, rendering all of this moot.

Do you know if that load balancing router will route connections from the same computer to different wans? For example if you're downloading a large file and then start downloading another large file from a different location, a different server, but on the same pc, is it going to treat those two connections as separate? Or is it going to put it all on one way on because it's one local client?

Load balancing doesn't actually increase speed though. You need to bond through a VPN or something. Are you actually getting a speed boost using this setup?
Thanks. I figured there'd be a solution for this. Our ISP is usually pretty reliable and decent speeds, but I plan to give Starlink a go and was wondering how I could use both. Also, having the failover is awesome, since I WFH too. Thankfully only lost internet once for a few hours in a couple years, so far, but will be nice to have the dual benefit.
I have Starlink as a primary and AT&T Home as a backup. The failover modem I have takes about 5 seconds to notice and switch over to the back up. I'm looking for a modem that will do WAN Bonding which will make the failover seamless.

Inaccurate description. Load balancing is not the same as bonding. It's a whole lot better than nothing but it is NOT combining 2 services. Sorry, not technically accurate.

They both work simultaneously as needed, some models allow up to 4 ISP. If one fails the balancer automatically routes traffic to other available LAN. I have 2 ISP and this works great. One is Starlink and the other one is Fiber optic.

With your system, if one Provider goes down and you are on that network at the time on a zoom call, will the TP link seamlessly flip you over to the functioning provider, or will the zoom call drop?

So if I am following you correctly, combining two DSL services with this type of router will not ever get us more than 5 MBS download, but just spread out the usage between users for faster than typical speeds with heavy usage. Correct? If so, and the router is always deciding which is the fastest connection to use at any given moment, is there any noticeable change in the latency speed? My work requires a very fast latency, so satellite will not work for me However, two DSL lines might work, but I am wondering about any latency changes with adding this type of setup. Thanks!
I have both WOW and Spectrum. If each service got it's own cable modem, could I connect to one with ethernet to my laptop, and connect to the other with Wifi to the same laptop? Do I need to configure my laptop to handle both connections simultaneously, or does that happen automatically?
On all mesh systems you normally connect a LAN cable to the router or modem in order to be able to navigate. In this case you will connect to a port configured as LAN (no WAN)
One of the few benefits of living in suburbia....City won't let me have ducks, but I do get 1Gbit up/down for $65 a month so thats something. Why did this video get so few views? People get scared when you mention bridge mode, but turning all the default wifi garbage that comes from the ISP helps reduce noise on wifi.

Hi, I’m from Puerto Rico. Power goes out a lot lately. Question, can I only use it as a backup network, if service A goes out then service B starts working. With No Balance of networks. Service B has limited data, if I consume more than 100 gigas it would start charging extra.

I don’t know if wireless load balancing devices exist. But you can get 2 wireless bridges and use them like the modems. They would physically plug into the load balancer’s WAN ports. You can connect them as clients to the different wireless sources. I saw a video a while back where they set up a Ubiquity wireless device to connect to the park’s hotspot. You’ll want to make sure the different wireless devices are not too close to each other so that they do not interfere.
i have a wireless camera in my outer bldg that is not getting any signal. I connected one end of a cat 6 ethernet to my router in my house, and ran the cable out to the outer bldg. what should i do on that end to get signal to my camera? If you have 100 one in first and 50 in another end.... What it does It basically combines the speed based on physical port capability and WiFi generation compatible speed range .. If anyone wicket is over ..the one of above will work upon either...
Is there an option on the router to use as just a failsafe incase one internet service goes out? Our second service don't have unlimited data and they don't throttle, they just charge extra. I want to set it up so when our main goes down, that's the only time it switches. Thanks for the video.

Hi! I got my setup based on your video. I have 2 different ISPs using point-to-point antennas in Colombia. It took me 2 headache filled days to figure this out. It's NOT plug and play, and there's no setup wizard that will do the work for you. Also the manual for the TL-R605 fully explains HOW to use every feature of the unit - but NOTHING about WHAT TO DO or WHY. So when I hooked everything up like you described, with 2 WANs, there were no connections at all. :-0! And there was zero on the web showing me how to do this specific setup. LUCKILY, I looked at your video one more time and heard one key word "I set the modems up in bridge mode" - and I finally said AHHA. So I reset and reconfigured each modem to act as an "ACCESS POINT" and bingo! Now this system humming along just fine. Question: Do you use any static IPs or just let the modems decide what they want? Thanks again!!!!
I let the modems get the ip from the provider and then the router pulls it in. Maybe I should do a video on step by step setup, glad you figured it out!

I need to mix my company sap network and internet network (both are different network) and mix up. How can I do it. My sap work on company network and internet on another. Do I use force bind it. Two adaptors and two network on same one computer. Load balancing isn't the same as connection bonding or aggregation. Being "out in the sticks" I have 2 slow internet providers zippy dsl and t mobile home internet. Could you please do a video on how to do link aggregation or bonding?
Bonding requires much more expensive equipment or complicated setups using a computer/ software. Load balancing has almost the same result with the exception of a single faster download or upload speed. For most users in a home with multiple people, load balancing will actually give you an overall faster result
At my pharmacy I have two internet providers....suddenly suddenlink which has a cable router and att router that has the phone jack type connection. When we upgraded our suddenlink modem to the faster one our computer system would not recognize the ip address. To solve this we added a nighthawk router. But now when one goes down and we plug the other into router it gives an error message that it doesn't recognize ip configuration.....so I have to call and get the router manipulated to recognize ip address. This load balance router sounds like a solution that in theory both could be connected to and we would never know when one is down and therefore wouldn't have to swap out modems and cause the ip confusion. Just wondering if this would fix my issue.
Hey bro, great video i am looking at doing this however i was looking at bonding my 2 connections, what does it show when you run a speedtest? for example if you have 2 lines which produced 100mbps each with the load balance does this show a speed of 200mbps or will it just run the check on the first line it grabs? also do you ever have issues with the load balancing like packet loss or bad latency?
This will not join the two connections in that way. If you run a speed test it will route you to the fastest available connection and you will get the speed on that line
I want to take two separate internet connections and combine them into one single fast connection. Spedify cloud service does this within computer software you download but they want 20 dollars a month for unlimited bandwidth..
No. That max download or upload speeds provided by the internet service provider would not change from the Max up or down that you pay for. The router only picks between the two lines and determines which one is fastest at the time you are try to access it and then routes traffic to that one.

I always knew there was something to this effect. They offer you more mpbs and charge you more. And even now that I have spectrum at 200 mbps, there's interruptions....why when only two tv's are on or a computer and tv....just makes no sense. I'm going to have to try that out. Kind of, it allows both services to act as one but doesn’t combine the total speed. It splits your downloads over both connections therefore speeding up overall speed in your home especially for multiple users. The link is in the description
I presume, though, that in the middle of a Zoom call, if the router has me on "ISP A", and then "ISP A" goes down, then the Zoom call quits. I could perhaps re-start it on "ISP B", but that's what I'd have to do. Or is that just not true?

such old news we had 2 dial up modems in 1999, combing them has been easy since then! 2 lan ports from modem into a router so hard!

If you leave your modems configured as routers you end up with double NAT which can cause issues and is unnecessary double routing

Did you do an attic install? Where are you? In Texas I easily see it overheating in the summer. I see the cables routed and dressed and the shelves installed. The install looks clean, but wouldn't the attic heat cause issues with overheating and power consumption, or UPS problems?
A router could probably handle the heat ok but the battery backup would not
The title of the video indicates you can combine two services to create one fast one. But, you say at 4:20 that it's not the same as combining them. I have several slow connections that I want to bridge into one fast one. Do you know of a way to do this?
This is the best way to do it. Not bonding but load balancing is similar except for a single thread download.

How seamless does the router re-rout a dropped connection? Like say I'm streaming live content and one connection drops, will I experience a lag spike or timeout while it switches over?
I just got Starlink and the speeds are great but I run into certain times of the day where it drops over and over again for seconds at a time. It's driving me nuts.
I was wondering the exact same thing. I use StarLink for video conferencing and for WiFi calling on my phone (I'm in a dead zone). The signal is crystal clear, but I'm finding I have problems with calls suddenly dropping. I'm wondering if a failover to my 5Mbps LTE system will prevent that from happening, but not sure if the failover is fast enough.
There is a good possibility you will have access to a 1gbp/s download satellite option by the end of the year when starlink comes online and unlike other services living in the middle of nowhere will mean a better connection. It will be good for general net use along with uploading but bad for gaming until enough ground stations are put in for people to be able to play fully on it and no longer need the internet bridges.
Yes and no. I'm here because I have StarLink currently, but some obstructions cause it to drop fairly often. I need a failover system to address the problems that creates. Currently, StarLink is sometimes as slow as 5Mbps. Both the obstruction and speed issues will be mitigated as more satellites go up. For that matter, we may get a grant to put in Comcast in the next couple of years, rendering all of this moot.

Does the TP-Link have routing functionality like DHCP or should that all be done by the wireless router?
Do you know if that load balancing router will route connections from the same computer to different wans? For example if you're downloading a large file and then start downloading another large file from a different location, a different server, but on the same pc, is it going to treat those two connections as separate? Or is it going to put it all on one way on because it's one local client?

Load balancing doesn't actually increase speed though. You need to bond through a VPN or something. Are you actually getting a speed boost using this setup?
Thanks. I figured there'd be a solution for this. Our ISP is usually pretty reliable and decent speeds, but I plan to give Starlink a go and was wondering how I could use both. Also, having the failover is awesome, since I WFH too. Thankfully only lost internet once for a few hours in a couple years, so far, but will be nice to have the dual benefit.
I have Starlink as a primary and AT&T Home as a backup. The failover modem I have takes about 5 seconds to notice and switch over to the back up. I'm looking for a modem that will do WAN Bonding which will make the failover seamless.

Inaccurate description. Load balancing is not the same as bonding. It's a whole lot better than nothing but it is NOT combining 2 services. Sorry, not technically accurate.

They both work simultaneously as needed, some models allow up to 4 ISP. If one fails the balancer automatically routes traffic to other available LAN. I have 2 ISP and this works great. One is Starlink and the other one is Fiber optic.

With your system, if one Provider goes down and you are on that network at the time on a zoom call, will the TP link seamlessly flip you over to the functioning provider, or will the zoom call drop?
Hi. Thanks for the video with great information. We have one DSL line with 5 MBS download. So if I am following you correctly, combining two DSL services with this type of router will not ever get us more than 5 MBS download, but just spread out the usage between users for faster than typical speeds with heavy usage. Correct? If so, and the router is always deciding which is the fastest connection to use at any given moment, is there any noticeable change in the latency speed? My work requires a very fast latency, so satellite will not work for me However, two DSL lines might work, but I am wondering about any latency changes with adding this type of setup. Thanks!
I have both WOW and Spectrum. If each service got it's own cable modem, could I connect to one with ethernet to my laptop, and connect to the other with Wifi to the same laptop? Do I need to configure my laptop to handle both connections simultaneously, or does that happen automatically?
That will not work, you need the load balancing router
From the load balancing router can you go through an Eero mesh network system?
On all mesh systems you normally connect a LAN cable to the router or modem in order to be able to navigate. In this case you will connect to a port configured as LAN (no WAN)

One of the few benefits of living in suburbia....City won't let me have ducks, but I do get 1Gbit up/down for $65 a month so thats something.
Why did this video get so few views? People get scared when you mention bridge mode, but turning all the default wifi garbage that comes from the ISP helps reduce noise on wifi.

I don’t know if wireless load balancing devices exist. But you can get 2 wireless bridges and use them like the modems. They would physically plug into the load balancer’s WAN ports. You can connect them as clients to the different wireless sources. I saw a video a while back where they set up a Ubiquity wireless device to connect to the park’s hotspot. You’ll want to make sure the different wireless devices are not too close to each other so that they do not interfere.

I connected one end of a cat 6 ethernet to my router in my house, and ran the cable out to the outer bldg. what should i do on that end to get signal to my camera? Yes, same. You hook up one provider to one port and the other to another port and it will load balance between them

Is there an option on the router to use as just a failsafe incase one internet service goes out? Our second service don't have unlimited data and they don't throttle, they just charge extra. I want to set it up so when our main goes down, that's the only time it switches. Thanks for the video.

Hi! I got my setup based on your video. I have 2 different ISPs using point-to-point antennas in Colombia. It took me 2 headache filled days to figure this out. It's NOT plug and play, and there's no setup wizard that will do the work for you. Also the manual for the TL-R605 fully explains HOW to use every feature of the unit - but NOTHING about WHAT TO DO or WHY. So when I hooked everything up like you described, with 2 WANs, there were no connections at all. :-0! And there was zero on the web showing me how to do this specific setup. LUCKILY, I looked at your video one more time and heard one key word "I set the modems up in bridge mode" - and I finally said AHHA. So I reset and reconfigured each modem to act as an "ACCESS POINT" and bingo! Now this system humming along just fine. Question: Do you use any static IPs or just let the modems decide what they want? Thanks again!!!!
I let the modems get the ip from the provider and then the router pulls it in. Maybe I should do a video on step by step setup, glad you figured it out!

Load balancing isn't the same as connection bonding or aggregation. Being "out in the sticks" I have 2 slow internet providers zippy dsl and t mobile home internet. Could you please do a video on how to do link aggregation or bonding?
Bonding requires much more expensive equipment or complicated setups using a computer/ software. Load balancing has almost the same result with the exception of a single faster download or upload speed. For most users in a home with multiple people, load balancing will actually give you an overall faster result
At my pharmacy I have two internet providers....suddenly suddenlink which has a cable router and att router that has the phone jack type connection. When we upgraded our suddenlink modem to the faster one our computer system would not recognize the ip address. To solve this we added a nighthawk router. But now when one goes down and we plug the other into router it gives an error message that it doesn't recognize ip configuration.....so I have to call and get the router manipulated to recognize ip address. This load balance router sounds like a solution that in theory both could be connected to and we would never know when one is down and therefore wouldn't have to swap out modems and cause the ip confusion. Just wondering if this would fix my issue.

Hey bro, great video i am looking at doing this however i was looking at bonding my 2 connections, what does it show when you run a speedtest? for example if you have 2 lines which produced 100mbps each with the load balance does this show a speed of 200mbps or will it just run the check on the first line it grabs? also do you ever have issues with the load balancing like packet loss or bad latency?
This will not join the two connections in that way. If you run a speed test it will route you to the fastest available connection and you will get the speed on that line

No. That max download or upload speeds provided by the internet service provider would not change from the Max up or down that you pay for. The router only picks between the two lines and determines which one is fastest at the time you are try to access it and then routes traffic to that one.

I always knew there was something to this effect. They offer you more mpbs and charge you more. And even now that I have spectrum at 200 mbps, there's interruptions....why when only two tv's are on or a computer and tv....just makes no sense. I'm going to have to try that out. Kind of, it allows both services to act as one but doesn’t combine the total speed. It splits your downloads over both connections therefore speeding up overall speed in your home especially for multiple users. The link is in the description
I presume, though, that in the middle of a Zoom call, if the router has me on "ISP A", and then "ISP A" goes down, then the Zoom call quits. I could perhaps re-start it on "ISP B", but that's what I'd have to do. Or is that just not true?
