Wow haha that smile of satisfaction when you finally put on the headphones, deserved. They look professional with the foam earpad. Can't wait to see how it works with cable soup haha
heck yeah, nice job! i've been thinking about how to do something like this for a few years, since i first tried VR. although my thought was to design more of a 'halo'/headband speaker array so you have speakers centre/front/rear/L/R around your head. i'd still really like to try it. the info next week about wiring and making a 7.1 amp will be really really useful! thank you Rudolf!!
Not that hard. You have 4 normal speakers on each side+1 sub per side. Front, Side, Rear, Center Each one needs a power and ground PC2001 design spec tells you what color each output on the internal audio card does. Front as Green Side as Gray Rear as Black Center as Orange Tip(Center is a mono channel decided for vocals) Sub as Orange Ring Ground is Sleeve on all TRS connections. LF+ Green Tip LF- Green Sleeve LS+ Gray Tip LS- Gray Sleeve LR+ Black Tip LR- Black Sleeve LC+ Orange Tip LC- Orange Sleeve Left Sub+ Orange Ring Left Sub - Orange Sleeve RF+ Green Ring RF- Green Sleeve RS+ Gray Ring RS- Gray Sleeve RR+ Black Ring RR- Black Sleeve RC+ Orange Tip RC- Orange Sleeve Right Sub+ Orange Ring Right Sub - Orange Sleeve Only issue is you will need a USB type AMP to power the Sub. The Roccat Kave was a 5.1 type headphone that used USB power to power the amp and do no audio processing.
Wonder how they really sound. Companies that made proper 5.1 headsets spent time to make sure they sounded right, not only positioning but angle of drivers. I loved my Roccat Kaves. I had the "Virtual Surround" headphones. If I am looking for 5.1, I expect to get multiple drivers.
I wonder how's the sound with no room behind the speakers. also I'd suggest using rca connectors instead of glued in cables, because cables breaking are often the death of headphones another option would be to terminate to a mini din or db9/db15 depending if having a common ground is a problem or not. if you wand to keep crosstalk absolutely away, I'd suggest making cable combs so they stay tidy and away from eachother.
Wow I really like youre Awsome videos!!! I really like your aditude. You are not afraid to try to make something on your own. It is not the best way to do it. But you learn from just doing it. And you get positive results. Love what you are doing here. Keep up the good work!!! XD
Amazing, i dream to build a surround headphone for years! I was looking for diy headphone tips because i just buy an old radio headphone from 50', and i was searching these couple of words, great to see someone doing this!!! Edit: yeah the problem after that is the connections, especially when you want to use it as a nomade and with smartphone and/or music player. I don't know if there something doing 5.1 and what is the extention of the music files, if it must be converted, if there's some players doing this automatically...
first of all, the reason you have multiple speakers in a surround sound system is because we are really good at perceiving where sound is coming from, and multiple sound sources makes it easier to simulate sound coming from somewhere else than right infront of you. with headphones this is not an issue, since the sound is being pumped directly into your ears. this means the echoing and minor delay that your brain uses to calculate spatial positioning of the speakers is completely gone. having multiple drivers in a pair of headphones is almost completely meaningless. the only reason to have multiple drivers in a pair of headphones is to either boost certain frequency bands or to balance the frequency response in specific ways, which is often used in high-end in-ear monitors. the headphones look good and it looked like a fun project, but they wont give you any advantage ingame. having a good quality driver in each cup will give you a lot better quality audio and probably better spatial perception. a classic modding project is taking the cheap ass koss headphones and making cups for them. the drivers on the koss headphones are insanely good for their price
Everything you just wasted your time on saying is total bullshit. I've had headphones like the ones he just made, and you can clearly tell that there is separation from front to back.
You have 2 ears... good stereo headphones can produce "3D" sound. I've tried surround sound headphones and its never been any better. The sound going to the headphones is more important than having many speakers per ear. Use some stereo headphones and listen to 8D audio on youtube... it's surround sound with 2 speakers.
Dude... All along this video I beating myself with facepalms because of ineffective use of tools and some other things... But do You know what? YOU ARE AWESOME!!! Because even in such way You still build some haedphones! P.S.: I don't know if You figure out, but lack of air behind driver/speaker it can make it clippin because there be not enaugh air for diafragm to move and pressure in socket with driver affect to sound quality... But think holes from cables are enough... At least hope so.
Oh, and hey! Get some CNC proof-medium-clay its a cheap, usually pink clay/foam. I am sure routech (an italian CNC company I worked with can source it or give you scrap for a shout out. But this will be best while you are getting to know your machine. That way you don't have to run tests with endless material types and can rule out what problems may be material problems vs the ones with machining. But what do I know? Im just a fan. Who worked machines from routech sourced from italy.
Nice video Rulof. Wouldn't be surprised if a big company steals your idea. Kinda shocked they don't already make these. Wouldn't buy one myself but I bet a lot of people would.
That was SOOO CREATIVE!!! GREAT JOB!!! I was thinking that it might not give you such a great surround experience compared to the speakers placed all around the room. Only because they are so close to your ears and the sound doesn't have a chance to bounce around all the folds in your ear that we have that makers us be able to tell which direction sound comes from. I REALLY hope you tell us how it all turns out and how good it reproduces the true surround experience while next to your ears. I CAN'T WAIT!!! :D
Do a collab vid w Adam from myth busters where there is a play on words of "eurotrash" You both do a build you agree upon but one of you substitutes and sources the materials from what is available as local trash/low cost as different countries have different treasures/trash: An american Italian who is tired of hearing I'm not because I don't look like mario. I think Italians have a very good record of innovation :-)
I admire your work but you should learn more about electronics. Ad a passive filter in your next project, reduce to single cable. use an USB 5.1 DAC circuit inside headphone too.
I got a lot of missed video's to catch up on, since the goose fat one, saw the spot welder video but I couldn't understand everything because I'm a lazy 1.5 language Englishman 😄 lol!
Spot welder video is Italian. I don't speak Italian. I would love to watch it maybe you should think about translating it like you did this video and re uploading it since you're promoting it here in the all English video
I bought some surround sound headphone once they were almost 100 American Dollars. I really liked them until my dog chewed them up into little pieces. I hope you enjoy the ones you make and don't own a dog that's chews up everything in sight
omfg this entire video was just you fucking around doing something your clearly not good at what a fucking waste of my time why would i want to watch a moron fuck the dog for 20 minutes smh

Super cool! Very cyber punk.

Have you thought about braiding the cables? There are five strand hair braiding techniques that should work with the cables too.

Because they dont work. The speakers are much to close to give surround sound.

Hi Rulof, Can you please show us how to make a high ampere transformer or a power supply for the HHO project.
Hi
Its been a bit down the road, how are these holding up? Do they still wow you?
Do you still use/like them?

Can you make it open back maybe it will be better
Smart 👍 . I like it.

Should braid all those cables into one more manageable rainbow bundle. O.o
Can somebody say me which programm he use for designing the headphones?

you can now make 3d printed case.

What is this song? It sounds so familiar.
Can you get electrocuted from spot welder?
Welders generally work at very low voltages, so no, not really. With the spot welder though you can definitely burn yourself!
If this headphone is open back the sound will feel better than have bigger bass soundstage
You are so cute bear 💗

What the fuck is this??? Just install HeSuVi. and Equalizer APO. And you will have 7.1 surround-sound for your headphones. Easy.
