Bankai being personal goes deeper than most people realize. A zanpaktou is a physical representation of "the three faces" that people have. Sealed is the face you show to strangers, shikai is the face you show to friends, and bankai is your true, hidden face. This is why some bankai are WILDLY different from their shikai, because the wielders true self is nothing like the persona they usually show. Soi fon is a perfect example but not the only one. Also, bankai can evolve. As the wielder grows and changes, so to does their bankai. Bleach is full of symbolism and personally I like to think of a broken bankai being a sign that something about you is broken and needs to be repaired/changed. We see this happen with Mayuri, it's subtle but the change is definitively there.
That’s really interesting and really gives context to why Ichigo is basically always in full release; he’s presented as someone who is super authentic. What you see is what you get and as soon as Ichigo learns who his true self is, he’s more than happy to present it to the world.
@@kashtrey And then we get to the Arrancar invasion and Ichigo has to put on a mask, as he hides his internal struggle from his friends and attempts to forge some sort of killer instinct that goes against his core. This backfires spectacularly when he loses control, becoming just a mindless beast in order to protect Orihime.
@@kashtrey This is true actually. Ichigo doesn't have a sealed state, because the face he shows to his friends (shikai) is the face he shows to everyone. On the opposite end of that spectrum, we got Unohana :)

Getting stronger in bleach isn’t just training physically, 80% of it is training your mental and spiritual state. Even in the TYBW when ichigo is in the soul palace, he’s not lifting 5 ton weights and doing 1 trillion sit ups. He’s literally just learning about his family, his sword, and literally just the history of the soul king and he gets crazy strong. Even with renji and rukia. They straight up stand still facing each other with wooden sticks in order to withstand the spiritual pressure of the area. It’s so unique
The way you describe it, I wish I had that onsen they used so I could get mine, its like discomfort in a way, the more you take it the more comfortable you get in crazy situations
People may call ichigo and a few others a "bankai spammer" but it actually makes sense for him to use it a lot. He may have achieved bankai in the soul society arc but he hadn't really mastered it. This was shown in his fight with byakuya and white mentions how he's no good at it. Him using it a lot is him training with it. The same thing can be said with hitsugaya, who has an immature bankai he has to train in order for it to reach it's full potential.
I look at ichigo’s bankai through his personality, he uses it when shit needs to be done… He always upgrades when he cant save his friends, so he gets stronger. And you point also makes sense with it. Spam it until you master it

their strenght to spam their bankais! while some character struggling to use cause has side effects and negative effects... i think kubo fixed the problem what he made to not show many bankais in situations where they should use logically... like kyoraku and shinji against stark and aizen.

Bankai is something special and rarely seen, the Bleach fillers made it seem like everyone's doing bankai all the time, but it is mostly Hitsugaya, Ichigo and Byakuya who use it a bit more.
Nah brooo, i didnt watch the fillers, only main story, thats why my opinion is as is. Thanks for telling me that, I didnt know people watched all the fillers 😅
Part of it is that bankai is basically a thing from the very start and was respected as the pinnacle ability, for the most part. A lot of other power ups end up feeling worse because the authors end up making crap up on top of it. For instance, the sharingan was important but then oh there’s mangyeko and oh now there rinnegan. Or the classic example of SsJ is the ultimate god like power and now we have 18 flavors. Kishi resisted the urge to just power creep with a third release. In the few circumstance where folks unlocked a new bankai it was strongly tied to the narrative I.e. Ichigo gets a new one because he gains understanding of his lineage, maiyuri gets new ones all the time because it speaks to him experimenting on himself, etc. Power ups are a lot more satisfying because they’re about telling us something narratively, not just ass pulling something because you wrote a villain that was op.
And we don't even know what powers Ichigo's true bankai has yet. Same with Aizen's bankai. It's quite strange to think about that we haven't been shown the final release of both the protagonist as well as the most prominent antagonist
I did what kubo did in this vid, i talked about bankai only but didnt mention hollwification anywhere… Goes to show kubo’s goated in not sharing everything
@@thanosal-titan Mayuri's bankai isn't just customizable; the bankai itself was artificially created by Mayuri using failed materials from his Nemuri project. To me it seems like his TYBW adaptable bankai takes inspiration from Szayelaporro's research with the pregnancy theme. Since Mayuri made his own bankai, he can destroy and recreate it as he pleases. Most other Shinigami will struggle to get their bankai repaired after it gets destroyed
To me the only thing missing from Yamamotos awesome Bankai was that he said it before using it. Whenever someone just says "Bankai" I just get the chills.
Nah that shit was cold af (pun intended). Seeing everything suddenly change, everyone react and realise what just happened, and waiting to see what his bankai does was so cool

the amazing thing about bleach is that each main faction (soul reapers, quincies, arrancars) have that same feeling in their power-ups, at least for me: bankai, resurreccion and vollständig are all incredibly hype for me in their own ways
Shinigami and Arrancar powers work in the same spectrum just with shinigami more geared to changing the blade while arrancar ones to change the body, but both can do either, there are bankais that change the body like Kenpachi's or resurrecciones that are just weapons like Stark's. The same parallel goes for Quincy and Fullbringers, their powers the fullbring and the shrift work in the same spectrum, in fact you could argue that a shrift is just a fullbring of ywatch's blood in their veins since quincy and fullbringers are almost the same, humans with a piece of a god inside them, quincy get Ywatch fragments and fullbringers get soul king fragments, quincy get reishi from ambient, fullbringer gets reishi from objects, their powers are from external sources, opposite to shinigami or hollows who get it from internal sources.

This is the exact reason why i love that Gege made JJK's strongest power system "Domain Expansion" with the inspiration of Bleaches "BANKAI". That whole idea of the power up being the ones soul just makes it so much cooler and unique. and it always sends a shiver down my spine whenever i hear a character say "Bankai" or "Ryōiki Tenkai"
3:22 "Bankai is narratively more meaningful." Full stop. You could end the video there and we would all understand perfectly. Sensei Kubo is a master of narrative and crafting unique backstories for each and every single character, no matter how small a role they play. Creating a world is difficult enough, but he has over 250 detailed characters that EACH could have their own episode, if not even series. No other contemporary authors have reached that milestone that I'm aware of. That is why he is always conservative with releasing bankais until they can be presented with relevance to each character's backstory. Were it not for that self-restraint, the bankais would be as cheap as cookie-cutter power ups.
I think it's kind of disingenuous to say Domain Expansions loses its value after every use. Considering everyone and their mom seems to pull out a Banki. Ichigo cant go 5 seconds without whipping his out and then hollow mask. Not everyone has a domain expansion and the applications are limited.
This. Author heavily downplays DE. Which has a lot similarities with what he says about bankai, since DE also comes from the heart and unique, and mostly one-use. EDIT: Also yes, since the middle of Arrancar Arc Bankai keeps it's hype, but loses some of it's value, because Kubo's powercreep of enemies makes shikais mostly useless sticks with rare exceptions.
I’ve responded to multiple comments like this but in short. JJK manga especially the ending, you’ll see. And Ichigos personality is the reason why he spams it, he uses his final form when he wants to get shit done, and he usually wants it done asap, when the bankai is not enough white takes over in early bleach, later in tybw ichigo still hasnt used his bankai which you’ll see in cour 4 and tell me what you think. Also after you read JJK chapter 270 tell me what you know about DE and wtf is going on
I am a deep Bankai fan through and through and nothing can change that, however your argument of "Domain Expansion is used so often it lost its meaning / impact" while comparing it to Bankai sounds funny to me. It is spammed so much in Bleach as well, not that it loses its impact thankfully.
If you're anime only JJK fan its fine if you don't understand. But ultimately I'd like to believe hitsugaya spams his to remind us hes a kid genius. Ichigo legit just wants to get shit done immediately ( + he gets stat boost) And in the future you'll see someone like Sukuna suck them in his realm 10 times in a row, then a yap session why he can do it 10 times in a row. And ultimately the king of curses slashes you in his domain, how tf why doesn't his domain curse the user the longer he stays to be a sure kill effect or sum, its not even that linked to the DE user. Gojo spamming limitless, somehow it being broken also makes no sense to me. You'll see ig
Bankai is self realization and achieving enlightenment. It's only when you understand your own sword/your very essence, is the time when you finally get access to your Bankai. It's more than just a power up, it's the ultimate picturization of a soul's life and journey to self realization. This is the reason why Bankai is soo iconic and matters soo much in the story. Bleach takes a lot of inspiration from Buddhism, Hinduism and Gnosticism and the way Kubo incorporates all these Eastern and Western philosophies in his stories and lore is just fabulous.
True, your comment sparked a realization in me. Your past selves can be accessed, but if you can envision your “winter arc” you can acces your “full potential” im talking about physically and in bleach this goes mentally and spiritually and I think thats great. Plus add a memorable word that sparks hype and you get the ultimate power up. People get things confused all the time with abilities and power ups. Hype wise I think its number one

@@onesmart229 I think there’s really not much more we need with 360 eps full of fillers…. I mean the anime is way way waaaay shorter than Naruto and Op, they take care to do everything whil kubo focuses only to get the message through which for me is enough. I’d like to also have imagination to ask myself what would Hitsugayas spirit be like? If kenpachi has a little pink girl as his
Besides the masterful characterization that Kubo builds into each Bankai, I think the "universality" of Bankai is something that makes it very distinct from other power-ups. Naruto can just keep learning jutsus as he needs, and Luffy could get Gear 6 for all we know. Other shonen use power-ups as surprise trump cards when the situation is grim. But in Bleach the Bankai is always there; if you're fighting against someone who remains in Shikai, you have to wonder why they're not going Bankai. Another funny thing about Bankai is that, as a community, we can imagine and theorize what a character's Bankai could be, or even what is the ability of an unexplained Bankai - Then we all get blown off by the reveal.
Domain expansion is definitely not a cheap imitation. A domain is literally a enclosed space while bankai has nothing to do with that. Domains also have to do with a person technique(most of the time not every sorcerer) while shikai almost never have anything to do with a person bankai. If you like bankai more fine but let's not act like domain aren't fundamentally different than bankai in a lot of ways.
One of the things i love about bleach is how power comes with consequence and responsibility. Like how their spiritual pressure becomes dangerous to everything around them. Like how ichigo couldn't get near his friends after dangai training because they would have been crushed by his pressure. Also bleach rally has the best power ups. Not just bankai. Which is just an awesome word that feels like power when you say it. But also things like resurrection and volt standig or however you spell it. They are always epic
I think where you get chills depends on how connected you are to the story. I’m a Naruto fan, and I probably feel the most connected to Naruto out of the Big 3. For me, I got chills during many Naruto moments-mostly with the Uchihas (they're just cool edgelords). But I understand if you got more chills in Bleach. Personally, I didn’t feel many chills during most of the Bankai scenes-only a few, mostly Ichigo's moments. So I think it really depends on how well you connect with the story. As for Bankai, I think it’s definitely one of the best power-ups in anime. Not sure if it’s the best though. I’ve definitely been more excited by moments like Sukuna's Malevolent Shrine in JJK (the Sukuna vs. Mahoraga fight was so epic) or when a character goes psycho, like Naruto’s Kyuubi forms in the early series, or Gon’s transformation in HxH. So, while I can’t say Bankai is the absolute best power-up, I’d definitely put it in the top 5. P.S. I’m really sorry for the toxic Naruto fans, and honestly, for all the fans in the comments who act like that. It embarrasses me too, but what can I do? I wanna leave the fandom but i just cant not love Naruto. As ya Fans can get emotionally unstable when their favorite anime is criticized or called inferior in some way.
You're right, conection matters a lot, its all about balance as well. Building up the intensity and creating hype, all of a sudden you break it and something insane happens, when it comes to DE, you're right its hype but it has that same pattern, building up tension, building building, breaking it with 2 words and then shit goes down. But JJK will/ is slowly fading to the idea of it feeling like the last resort, it doesn't feel like yup if this doesn't work I'm cooked... after season 3 gets out you'll see what I mean while they introduce others who can use their DE and afterwards fights will seem a bit different when it comes using it. Also going berserk is amazing, but again edgy wise, having a hollow mask fuck you up from the inside and out is a bit cooler and EDGIER than the ninetailed fox we saw at the beginning. Its preference (sorry for the long yap session but here we go) Here's the thing, as a critic i specify things. I might be considered a bleach glazer but Naruto out of the big 3 has the brightest message that helps you in the world, friends and changing people. It focuses on that, in that aspect I love it. Your enemies are misunderstood, and naruto tries to understand it. Meanwhile luffy doesn't give a flying fuck about that. But one piece shines goal wise, it represents a kid that's going on an adventure to become the best in the world. A kids dream coming true, see I like that but I don't like one piece since I'm already doing this with youtube, and all I need is what bleach has, understanding yourself to be better every single day, to get your ultimate form and yourself out there to give it your all when you need to. In case of bleach its when ichigo's friends are in danger and he wants to protect them. Narratively I don't mind the hate from naruto's fanbase and/or one piece but its the difference in goals, I need bleach in my life. I want what it offers + its edgy as you said with the uchiha's. I don't need to love one piece because I have my goal and the messaging doesn't align with me that much since I'm already doing it, working on my dream, the only thing it can teach me is good friends all having their dreams to accomplish something is the key. But bleach is atp what I need most in life. You do things you're told to do daily, and things happen all the time, but sometimes extremes happen, and in those cases you chose if you want to help or not. And YOU have to remind yourself WHY you're chosing to act, in every ichigo power up, he has a reason to protect the ones close the them, even though he doesn't need to. He's written that way. But I love all 3 anime, and respect them and kids don't understand that some anime are not the best at all the things they do. I explained it in a long comment here but bleach has the best power up, nen might be the best power system, story-goal wise one piece takes the cake, most takeaways come from naruto. I could expand on it a lot more I'm just blasting the first thing off my head now. But thanks for the kind comment and I hope you have a nice day my friend.
@@ShigiAnime It seems Bleach holds a significant place in your life right now, even more so than my connection to Naruto. I love Naruto because I relate to Naruto as a character. He embodies the ideal of resolving conflicts through negotiation whenever possible, and that's something I deeply value. Naruto was also the first anime I watched while knowing what anime actually was, so it has a special place in my heart. Honestly, I don’t entirely agree with the stance Luffy takes. Fighting a battle with peace and understanding is a valid approach too. While people often mock Naruto for his "Talk no Jutsu," I think it makes him stand out. His empathy, even towards those who killed his mentors and harmed his village, is remarkable. Most other protagonists would have gone berserk on someone like Pain, but Naruto showed a deeper, more empathetic response. In this sense, I think of figures like Gandhi, who fought his battles with peace and negotiations. I respect that approach and aspire to those ideals as well. You could call me an idealist, and I wouldn’t mind. As for Ichigo and Luffy, I don’t relate to them in the same way I relate to Naruto. Ichigo is more serious in his demeanor, while Luffy approaches everything too lightly. Naruto, on the other hand, strikes a balance that resonates with me. Anyway, have a great day! I love rambling on, and I totally get where you're coming from.
Respect, yeah bleach is special cause i've been practicing talk no jutsu my whole life so i just ignore it, i don't need it anymore. I've had a lot of fights in my family so I had to resort to talking it out, and when you don't need anything in life you just ignore it that's what happened with me and Naruto. I don't mind admitting its good but its just not for me anymore, but I know there'll be a point where I'll look back at naruto and feel connected to the character again. I'm happ you found something you like, the balance you say you did. And yeah I agree, he is like gandhi but what really is missing is a person that doesn't change in naruto, a person that would rather die than convert to good. I think at that point it would make it 10x better. Because even pain, sasuke or pretty much anyone is/can change but nobody wants it more than madara, that's why he dies in the end. But its quickly forgotten since kaguya takes over.. You too, I wish you have the best day
I think what perfectly sums up your take and video is one of the TYBW trailers, where we could at the end of it hear numerous shinigami say bankai, it was sending chills down the spine cuz you knew the challenge they will face is going to be huge, but the last person to say bankai was no one other than Yamamoto, and jeez, I bet all of bleach fans climaxed at that moment, especially anime only.
nah bro, I wanted to do that but it would not prove a point. I'll let people see that for themselves. Yamamoto's fine an all but there's better ones *wink*
I really like Bleach and the overarching power system, but I think you were pretty unfair to domain expansion when comparing it to bankai. You critiqued domain expansion as a power up due to Akutami supposedly spamming it and it therefore loses its value, but is this not what happens in bleach too? After he gets bankai does Ichigo ever fight for a prolonged period without using it? and the only time it ever changes is at the very end of the manga and we don't even know its exact ability. So like 80% of Ichigo's fights are him using a power up that we've already seen dozens of times before. The same goes for Toshiro and Byakuya, although to a lesser extent. Toshiro pretty much uses his bankai non-stop from even the soul society arc and after soul society Byakuya pretty much does the same thing. And this happens with even more characters like soi fon, to the extent that by the time of the thousand year blood war arc we've seen bankai so much that the only ones that really hit hard are the ones that are still unknown by that point, like shunsui and Kisuke. I might be misunderstanding what you're arguing through this comparison but I just don't see how you can justifiably hold the standard for jjk that domain expansion losses its value because Akutami spams it too much, whilst not applying that same standard to Bleach when characters like Toshiro, Ichigo and Byakuya exist. It just doesn't seem like a fair critique
Alright, so DE (domain expansion) is a watered down version, its mostly focused on a zone or a one's barrier. Meanwhile bankai are all different, some are zone oriented, some are straight up power ups. For example I'd like to explain why its okay for bleach to do it. Ichigo as a character in his core, wants to get things done. Everytime he was not strong enough he trained or went the extra mile with white and zangetsu so he could save his friends. He always did what it took to save someone close to him, this reflects in his bankai. He does everything in his power he has so he gets things quickly done because he's more oriented to fixing the thing and not thinking about saving his energy up. His bankai is meant to be spammable because he will use it as many times as he needs to , to save his dear friends. Byakuya uses it elegantly, he can't really show his royalty more and elegance through nothing else than his bankai, their bankai's are multi purpose and it reflects who they are (read the pinned comment for more info if you want to understand it) whereas in jjk, if you read the manga (i wont spoil it) but in jjk, you'll soon see when next seasons get adapted, it will lose its value because barriers are meant to be broken and they will lose value. The amount of explanations gege needed to make it work was too much, he legit took almost a whole as chapter to explain a single domain expansion ( he didn't originally want to focus his story to a power up to showcase something with it, its not said that sukuna is a butcher he's the king of curses but yet in his DE he just slices you up to bits) and once again, you'll see with time how it'll lose value. It still is cool but its not the main shtick in JJK as in bleach Bankai is. Also you saw that mahoraga was more op than a DE, its an ability to summon him, not a power up directly. Idk if you read about JJK and chapter 226 and such , especially the end of jjk sucks ass because of DE and how it apparently works, after reading it for 2 hrs i still couldn't understand it... But Hitsugaya also gets a pass to use his, brother needs to remind us he's a genious, and his is just a power up that gives him abilities, so he spams it to showcase how young he is and how he has a bankai at that age to showcase the difference between him and the others. Just ask yourself why does Toshiro spam his, and you'll be able to answer it if you try to get to know the character a bit more. If there's anything I missed you're free to comment again
Also to touch on the training thing you stated between bankai and Haki. Both are things that you can train into and takes time. It could take 20 years to learn bankai and then another 10 years to master it. The same can be said about Haki or any higher level mastery of a devil fruits. Like I see what you’re trying to do but you can use the same argument in both directions. They both take time to master, the application is slightly different for everyone, and the type of Haki you master and how you use it is different for everyone.
I wrote a long comment to a person before replying to you and this is the difference in training with haki and for a bankai with a real life example. Here it goes. If you ever worked out, and tried to run half a marathon, you start training, run for 800 meters without stopping, try going for the 4 kilometers during that time you’ll see resistance, the more you run the more uncomfortable it gets, but when you stop the pain is alleviated, you’re fine. You train more by running daily, everytime there’s that limit in pushing through a checkpoint in which you ask yourself, holy fuck should I continue, you argue with yourself, as david goggins says “you’re talking to your inner bitch, trying to find the root cause of why you’re stopping, trying to find a goal and a mission to keep on going” thats what understanding yourself is. Thats what Ichigo does, he has a very strong sense od oneness because his goal is to help those who he’s seen in life, he doesnt have to save rukia, but he does. He needs to get stronger to do it, he gets to understand himself through zangetsu. That resistance helps him understand his true nature, some people irl can be so ignorant or not even be self aware, do you think they could get a bankai? its the same with haki, but I interpreted bleach this way since, I cant fucking run for 4km, my inner bitch takes over and i give up. That’s why I’m fat. I don’t know my real potential mentally nor physically, but I knoe there is a limit i can reach, that limit being a full on bankai in terms of anime. The final form in DBZ, all I have to do is create the image of my ultimate self and talk to him, you can do that by manifesting. And soon when you compromise and give up some things only then are you able to get to that stage. Its like a gym “winter arc” I think thats a cool concept, and haki idk whats the deal with haki but I’d love to hear your opinion with a real life example of haki I tried simplyfing things here for you, I hope you understand a bit more. If not, start running to notice that little voice in your head arguing and finding every reason to stop doing it. That’s you. Thats your zangetsu telling you something. The only one person IRL who deserves a Bankai in the field of running is David
@@ShigiAnime haki is a manifestation of ones willpower. You can get stronger by training in a controlled environment but that won't get you far. There is only one way to increase your willpower/ haki. Put yourself through adversity. It'll either strengthen you or it might break you completely and you will lose your haki like geko moria. You can also give a very long speech about the character and narrative significance of devil fruit awakenings. Bankai is great but that doesn't take away from what the others do..
One thing that I like about Bankai is that they have no rule to them that applies to everyone, because each Bankai is unique to its user. "Once broken, a bankai cannot be restored to the way it was" is true for almost every soul reaper in Bleach, but it's not true for Komomura: When he gets injured, his bankai takes the same damage, and vice versa, but in turn, when Komomura recovers from his injuries, so does the bankai. A similar thing goes on with Byakuya. It's in his bankai's nature so shatter, so smashing the tiny petal blades at most stuns them for a moment. Bankai are also usually reserved for strong opponents, but Shinji relies on his Shikai to deal with singular powerful opponents whereas his bankai is more effective against crowds.
I think it is funny that you are comparing two different power up from different anime that have different premisses you can't really compare bankai with regular devil fruits a more precise compareson would be the devil fruit awakening and yet they are still different you can't really compare
Yeah comparing doesnt make sense at all thats why one piece, bleach and naruto are all on equal footing story wise, world building wise etc. I agree its all different
Saying that after one shoot 0 skill shunshui bankai is wild imo. Of course the concept is super cool and deep and can create peak bankais like yama or toshiro but with tybw it end up being which has the best and easy hack. In the first arc byakuya said its necessary to train 1000 years to perfect a bankai. In which world u need 1000 years to perfect shunshui, ichigo, shinji, soifon, renji shikai/bankai?
As much as I love Bankai, watching Bleach lately has shown me that bankai doesn't solve any fights. They are awesome to see, I still get chills when someone says Bankai, but then it ends. They show us their bankai and then they lose lol. I haven't enjoyed thousand year blood war because they keep showing us all these amazing abilities and then they get defeated before the episode even ends.
no disrespect what makes bankai so different and unique to other ability is that every person has there own unique ability and once the user dies the bnkai also disappear...which so much different like naruto rasengan can be used by 4-5 people, u can share yr sharingan just like obito and kakashi...in one piece once the devil fruit user dies the same devil fruit will reapper again sabo gets ace devil fruit after ace dies
Kinda surprised you didn't quote Byakuya when he fought Ichigo and told him about what having a bankai means. Can't remember exactly what he said but to paraphrase he said it was the pinnacle of power for an Angel of Death and that every user has had their names etched on a scroll/stone to be remembered for all time. That just goes so hard imo.
Its nice to have people like you say these things, the thing is I didn't want this video to be 30 minutes long so I limited myself to saying things I said but I'm happy you said that, you see that I didn't even mention hollow transformations + bankai or any other thing, just 1 specific thing and its enough to light a fire
Its all about what you want to hear, I can give you futher info if you need but I had to scrap a lot od the ideas I had in the video but they didnt make it
Bankai is hype, but hearing 700 times throughout the anime definitely devalued the impact until tite kubo decided that bankai can actually change during the last arc of the show. Before that, it was more of a preamble, like people charging up power in dbz. You know what bankai is because you've seen them all 20 times. If a new character uses it, that is sometimes cool, but we rarely if ever got to see that. Closest thing was resurrección, which is thematically extremely similar. Aside from that, bankai really just meant power up, or bs plot armor 99% of the time, and still kind of does in the last arc as well.
This is such a bad video and clearly regency biased. 8/10 of the things you say about jjk Naruto and OP can be applied to bleach as well. And your take on devil fruits about being generic is off. There's thousand's of devil fruits though out the story but only 16 of those are awakened. This makes them more unique than bankai which feels like 80% of the cast has one now.
Im just finding this video , and i wanna say this: the reason bankai is soooooooo good isnt even just because its a powerup , ITS BUILT IN CHARACTER PROGRESSION/DEVELOPMENT every captain has a bankai and every bankai is unique meaning every character is unique and every character has different powers we dont need a long drawn out character story just have them pop bankai and we go crazy, ITS GENIUS!!!! The uchiha could be just as hype but naruto isnt written that way, bankai is the best powerup/story progression tool in all of anime!!!
nen abilities are the only other thing that works like this to me where you are super curious about the abilities and how they build upon the initial characters
I mean, its true every user has his own nen ability but its like there's no such buildup and release as in bleach. Gon only has that type of vibe. Killua just straight up turns his electricity up whenever he wants
@@ShigiAnime Kurapika's Emperor Time? For me, JoJo's Bizarre Adventure's Stands and Hunter × Hunter's Nen's Hatsu are more diverse than Bleach's Bankai.
This video fails at justifying its claim. Domain expansions lose value every time they get used, you say this but provide NO example whatsoever. I would say on the other end, that domain expansions GAIN in value between sukuna's first time using one(where we don't understand what makes it so amazing) to the time he uses one against Mahoraga. We are shown how strong mahoraga is and YET, he gets defeated in a domain expansion. This video works fine for peopel who have seen bleach but as someone who has never watched it, you gave me no desire or wish to do so. I do not feel like you explained what makes bankai special you just.. put random words together. Please, review your script bro. I'm not even saying your claim is wrong, maybe Bankai IS the best power up but you just absolutely FAIL at explaining why and proving so. Your supporting arguments are.. plain stupid and false. "In one piece luffy doesn't just say, 'go in your beastial form' what the fuck does that even mean bruh.. What is the relevance of that? You say after that every character in bleach wants to fight in their true form but bro, if that's the case then is it REALLY that perfect a power up? Sukuna doesn't auto-pop domain expansions and neither does Gojo because they are SO strong that they attack anyone caught within them relentlessly. Gojo's domain, just like Sukuna's come with risks. It is so much power that the user must decide how and when to use it(gojo needed to use .02 second domain expansion to not kill civilians per example, sukuna needed to shorten the range of his DE to not kill Megumi per example, Mahito needed to use .02 to not touch sukuna's soul per example). THAT is a perfect, amazing, weighted power up. I rarely comment on yt videos, and I rarely would for this long anyway, but goddamn is this a bad video with a terrible ass script. "Bankai is rare, that's what makes it cool" I looked up Bankai in wiki and found 27 links in wiki. In Domain Expansion wiki I found 14. But Bleach has more chapters and characters I would assume so maybe 27 is very few(I can't say since I've never watched the show) but still. 27 is a LOT of bankais. Now then you said that you have the mystery of a bankai and I can admit that's a fair point. MOST domain expansions are relatively sample to comprehend, but that isn't the case for all of them and the sure hit factor is expressed in different ways. You also mentioned that Bankai has weight--as if to imply the other powerups don't--This is simply untrue. You named Domain Expansions, Sharingans, and Devil Fruits. ALL three of those have risks to be face from use or overuse. Being a DF user means you can't swim and have a whole SUBSTANCE that negates you. Domain Expansions can also be broken and also mean that you can't use your technique after they are used, too sharingans cause blindness. Before you respond that Sharingan Blindness and Domain Expansion technique fatigue can be overriden. The override process is INCREDIBLY difficult. In naruto you must KILL a loved one to obtain the eternal Magekyo, which is traumatic to the character and carries plot relevance. Then DE Override requires brain rewriting which is not just rare but super risky in itself. Your final statement, "bleach just does something to me' is the only honest part of your video. it is the only respectable one too. This video is fucking ass FROM a logical perspective. It's okay that you like bleach's power up better but don't pretend to have good logical arguments to support your claim when you don't. It's okay to like the shit just cuz you like it. "You have someone who uses it once and destroys everything"(sukuna, rinnegan almighty push) "You have a spammer"(sukuna and gojo) "Some that never get the chance to use theirs"(many uchiha, Most devil fruit users w awakenings, most jjk characters).
Of those 27 bankai some of them might be from games that aren't canon. Some from movies that aren't canon. Some from fillers that aren't canon. Some from novels that are actually canon but most anime watchers wouldn't have seen. So most bleach watchers wouldn't really get to see 27 bankai.
Yeah…… Expecting Anime video “essayists” to try and put actual good arguments into their videos is something of a joke at this point lmao Not tryna target the dude in the video specifically, but I think this is a problem with most.
I'm a Bleach and JJK fan. I like Bankai's and Domain Expansions, though I had really hoped he'd expand on some of his points. This video was mixed for me. I appreciate the understanding of Bankai but not the condescending of other works and powers.
"Domain expansions come at a risk for the user" Except no, only if you're weak. Gojo and Sukuna outright ignore all restrictions whenever they feel like. "But it causes them brain damage" yeah, and when was that damage ever relevant? Even the area of effect being dangerous to allies falls to the ground when you see that Yuta somehow was able to develop his domain to specifically target Sukuna and not Yuji. Did it cost him greatly? No. Did he have to sacrifice something to achieve it? Also no, just some abstract off-panel training and you're rid of all negatives of Domain Expansion. Yuta probably did it with a binding vow (which makes Gojo really stupid for not thinking about that in Shibuya instead of a .2 second domain) but the point still stands, and binding vows are a whole different issue. Sukuna is able to make and break binding vows at will with no repercussion whatsoever. And the point of domains being dangerous to the user because they can be broken is weak. Bankai can also be broken, except once they're broken its done, you will never be able to use it again except for very few circumstances where a person fundamentally changes who they are. And different from Gojo and Sukuna's brain damage that is actually not important at all, in Bleach we do see the consequences of a broken bankai. Ikkaku broke his bankai two arc ago and he was never able to do it again. Initially Domains couldn't be use more than once because of how costly they are but again, that is only a problem if you're not plot-blessed.
1:11 I disagree. Domain Expansions are not a cheap imitation. There is inspiration especially from Tosen and Yamamoto's Bankais but they aren't the same. Domain Expansions are more environment, they control the user's environment, entrapping their enemy and allowing them to be susceptible to damage due to a massive advantage by the user, based off the user's technique amplified. Bankais have more range and have more to do with the user dominating their inner self to get a new form with increased abilities and special techniques. Bankais are all encompassing, Domain Expansions are more precise.
Bankai is not about dominating your inner self. You can't dominate a part of you and expect results. The essence of bankai is about knowing and accepting all of every part of you. Something that takes centuries for soul reapers. That's why they can evolve over time.
@jadel1108 thats not entirely true. The use of a Bankai is the ability to utilize the full potential of a Zanpakto spirit, which are often stated to have their own personalities and even be at odds with their Soul Reaper initially. A good example is actually Hisagi and his spirit, who are at odds because Kazeshini likes killing and Shuhei is very much against it. Renji even needed to force Zambimaru to let him use its full true name. So saying its dominanting a part of yourself is pretty accurate as a lot of spirits want their Soul Reaper to overcome a flaw or even show their strength in one way or another.
@@jadel1108 not entirely true. it's both. you need to know the origins of your power and accept it, but also dominant your zanpakuto spirit. zambimaru didn't even let renji use his true bankai in the manga until zambimaru was forced to.
Certantly, that's your opinion, i agree its the most hype for sure but the best power system is a stretch. I just like the power up that bankai is, not a power system since its not as detailed as other anime
I think what Bleach teaches us with its power system is that "if you can master yourself, you can master the world and take on any future obstacles to come"
You are just so blatantly incorrect it's baffling. This 10 minute video can be summed up in two simplistic points: Bankai are tied to a character's identity; Bankai are often mysterious. This is the norm for most competent shonen manga. Jojo's stands are also tied to their user's personality, and are mysteries that have to be solved by their opponents in order for them to win. Hunter X Hunter's Nen abilities are also tied to their user's personality, and are mysteries that have to be solved by their opponents in order for them to win. Naruto's jutsu and so on are also tied to their user's personality (and often in brilliant, unrecognized ways), and are mysteries that have to be solved by their opponents in order for them to win. I'd say out of all shonen Naruto's power ups have the most thematic meaning and are overall the best. Even a messy manga like One Piece follows this some of the time, with Devil Fruits and other types of abilities being tied to a character's personality. Think of Franky embodying the message and philosophy of the 'battleship' of his flashback. Or of Luffy's poorly written retcon of a fruit, the Nika-nika, embodying his free-spirited nature. Bleach features extremely mediocre slop writing, and the fights are often resolved through deus ex-machina and feature no display of wit and tactic from the characters involved. Bleach is in fact a perfect representation of 'style over substance', and that can honestly be fine for many people. JJK is the same; sloppy writing, but cool visuals and ''hype'' moments that have little to no substance or thematic meaning and etc. However, claiming that the power ups from Bleach are better than the power ups of other shonen is funny to me.
@@ShigiAnime I am not interested in making videos about this, but if you want to further this discussion, feel free to reply and I'll keep the thread going. 🤝
@ I dont have my pc so it would take ages to dicuss it properly but mainly if you have watched bleach and did a bit of deep diving you realize, a person who is the main character is improving without any title, his friends who werent even his friends gets stronger to save them. Ichigo doesnt even know his abilities or what he is, at the end when shit gets tough he gets his ultimatr power up by abandoning a part of himself he didn’t know he had. He just got stronger to push through and save randoms that didnt even care that much about him, he lived through a simulation by going deep inside to ask for power which was granted when he needed it most out of desperation.
@@adamiadamiadami To me jojo’s stands dont go that deep, what typa connection does jotaro have with his? Hxh, gon went to train for so long, his whole life was a training arc just to shoot rock paper scissors, the ultimate power up was when his hair got so tall that it didnt fit the screen, i loved it but its not as stylish as bankai. Also what type of connection does his nen ability have to him shooting jan ken? He had to look inside his soul to realize, oh I’m a kid so I’ll go with that. Killua is from an assasins family, he inherited stuff like Ichigo did… But nen doesnt go deep with it, nen is not a final relase of power. Naruto had sage form, cool he got it out of being with frogs and meditating, he did training for it. Naruto doesnt focus on power ups it focuses on abilities and delivering meaning in the form of convincing and talking. and when it comes to one piece, I think you’re messing up the concept of a power up and an ability. A power up is gear 5, having a devil fruit is an ability, it enables you to use something beside a tool. Meanwhile powerups tend to give you abilities+base stats. To me it seems like you havent really given your all to trying to understand bleach or even dropped it half way. The thing about substance is why bleach is bleach, bankai is meant to be just that. Its a final realese god damn it , thats the whole point. I want to get shit done and style on em with what defies me. Either be it my playful bankai that is represented like an act, a person who is a child in heart showing his final release through a game like show. Be it a cold unnaproachable woman who gets everything i her range frozen while being super elegant since she strives to be a lady. Or even just someone who doesnt still know himself also getting his ability through lineage, ichigo is that example, he only knows getsuga tensho thats his dad’s ability… And his bankai is a show of, yo i dont have fancy stuff, I’m just here to power up and do what needs to be done for the people I know
Lmao. Almost as if thats not like literally every single anime character transformation ever. Infact I cannot think of a sinlge anime character transformation that does not have those two traits.
With One Piece I get what you mean because yes anyone could get any devil fruit, but not everyone is able to use the devil fruit to its full potential/awakening. Also doesn't Rob Lucci like directly ask for Luffy to show him gear 5?
Bleach glazers trying very hard to create their own happiness not realziing those logic and reasoning works with other series as well if they just decided to read other series properly
@@ShigiAnime i dunno, im with the first guy. Saying devil fruits arent unique, and saying everybody gets haki is actual lies. Bleach is sick, but the downplay of the others is crazy work
you see, I like you your delivery is nice but his wasn't. He also got ragebaited so its fine ig... I mean if you trained with garp or raylegh you'd have haki for sure. Even zoro and sanji got it without having the best teachers... Devil fruits are but I still think there's too big of a gap in earlier op and nowadays df, gear 5 made me forget he ate a fruit to get that power...That's how big the difference is
I think one thing that no one ever talks about with powers is how they relate to the person no one really hates themselves I've only seen bleach actually handle this whole idea
the pinned comment is interesting, a viewer shared how it apparently works (it was in the filler episodes nobody watched) But yeah it's literally a reflection of who that character is at their core. Unlike powers in other anime that can be learned or shared (like Devil Fruits or jutsu), a Zanpakuto grows and evolves with its wielder.
you cant compare bankai to devil fruits, devil fruits are a power system. you compare them with the reiatsu or chakra or ki. bankai is a power up/transfomration, you compare it to super saiyan, susano or a devil fruit awakening. not the eyes of the sharingan or devil fruits themselves
I remember someone commented on a video that de felt like a finishing move while bankai felt like a second stage souls fight, and apparently my brother disagreed with that, saying it was the opposite, however this only applies because of how differently the powers work even in their respective series. In jjk, there are maybe 3 or 4 lethal domains, with the other half being non lethal, but I think that is more due to them not knowing HOW to make a lethal domains In bleach, almost all of the bankai are just an upgrade of the shikai, like byakuya’s senbon Sakura to kageyoshi, it is just him getting more blades, and yes i realize that is an over simplification, but you get the point. The only bankais I can think of immediately that are instant kills are shinji’s and rukias, the rest all require some degree of combat like soifon’s, or just mess with too many people, like the lazy captain with 2 zanpactou
one is just screaming aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhh, the other one is just an inner chakra thing. I wont lie gon has a lame power, the power up he gained was nice but the length of the hair is kinda overcooked. the power itself was edgy but the hairstyle was not
Nen ? ...hell naw,... it's sold on just cuz of the Animation, the Power up by itself is nothing, ...only the actions following the power up, is what people care about. Super saiyan worked the very first time when Goku transformed for the 1st time against Frieza on planet namek.... 2nd time it worked when goku turn ss god... & 3rd is when he got ultra-insticts Rest of the time it was all "just Fine" While we r here talking about the literal word "Ban..kai" and it's power up impact on the serie and Narrative as a whole, ..Bankai didn't just win you war of 'Aura' every freakin time that word was uttered, but literally gave you Narrative Advantage, if you read the story carefully... and translate it properly. The aura of that word is evident in the fact that when BLEACH anime and even it's characters were obscured to oblivion 4-5 yrs back ....BAN KAI was the word carrying the AuRA chariot of itself.. That's how significant it is.. Shout anything ... nothing Shout nen ! ...no one Shout Super Saiyan! ...yeh few BUT Shout "Ban Kai" ... literal Chills 👈 (Me before watching Bleach)
@@ShigiAnime wtf bruh why does everyone think of the same thing. I swear to god like atleast a dozen people all on different platforms and called me diddy bruh its not the same thing is dexidy 😭
I don't know if it was in the sub or the Manga but when Itadori was hoping for a more flashy power like a rasengan or other anime powers he even brought up Bankai, which I thought was really funny. Except he said it really weird like Bane kai
@ShigiAnime it was the scene gojo locked him in the room to watch movies, I think gojo said he already knew what itadoris power is and it wasn't the aforementioned rasengan or bankai like itadori had wanted. Mind you I only watched the dub so I don't know if this was in japanese or the manga
i actually wanted to watch this video, but decided to check the comment first. Saw the creator responding to criticism and/or negative opinions like a hurt child. Not the best aproach when trying to do a video essay. Ps. I like Riruka.
There’s too much to reply too. After responding for 1hr and reading so many things it just gets on my nerve. People only hear what they want to hear, comment because they hear something they dont. I speak on what I want to hear, others have opinions but dont want to do the same thing as I do. Is there any point in responding at all then? Yoruichi
Things you said mostly apply to high from fate too, remember there was a trailer of spring song showing only hogu of some heroes which was hype, but I saw a comment saying renji was stupid thinking he could fight Gerard as many bankais were revealed just to fight Gerard which made me think Gerard was the greatest enemy in bleach
6:02 so the characters in Naruto don’t call out a predictable/universal power up as that is just a tongue and cheek way of acknowledging the real fight doesn’t start until said power up happens which highlights the repetitive nature of many Bleach fights.
I look at it with the perspective of, oh its that time. And then he tension starts building up. In naruto the tension wad building up until naruto saw sasukr
Better than making all characters worthless because the protagonist can do everything better than anyone else (Naruto and his boyfriend), and every Bankai is unique so You don't know what's coming. With Sharingan, Rinnegan, Tailed Best You know what's coming because is always the same stuff the Last character has but more powerfull. One Piece is a bit better but still not as hype, and Bankai have a relationship and conection to his user personality and story making it more interesting.
Kubo makes sure characters have 1-2 power ups, while also keeping them deeply personal. Shikai helps a lot keeping Bankai fresh, by having named characters without Bankai. For Yumichika and Hisagi, even releasing their Shikai was awesome, not far behind a Bankai reveal. But even Yoruichi without a sword has maximum 2, deeply personal power ups. Shunko and her Senkei form. Fullbringer and Espada are a bit weak here, each having only one powerup.
Kubotards man Kubotards you have to work for your devil fruit power like what?😭😂 Bandkai are asspulls I mean look at kenpachi look at Ichigo vasto lorde form look at muigetsu look at the silver arrow that turned ywach abilities off for 5 seconds……if you actually think bleach characters work hard for there powers or are unique compared to one piece your actually slow lmao Kubotards just accept reality bleach is bland. Lmao you can like the art but don’t be delusional okay? Just be quiet like your series and accept it will never compete with guys like oda or togashi it’s just reality man.
zanpakuto in general is the best system because of the nature of how they work. the 3 faces of your soul allows for character exposition at every crossroad instead of just adding some story or plot element to justify a characters rise to power, which in a longer running series will happen a lot and muddle the story and cheapen the character’s achievements. kenny and yamamoto are my fav in that regard.
@@ShigiAnime that is fair for sure but i also really like that it doesn’t exposition dump every single time a character shows something new or unique, like kyoraku. he was always shown to be a rather laissez-faire individual who did things out of absolute necessity and duty in battle but then his shikai perfectly encapsulates his lighthearted and playful attitude and personality towards his comrades. and his bankai showing his true nature, a rather tragic and dramatic individual, blowing open his character. all character exposition without shoving it in your face or giving u 4 backstories over the run of 2 episodes to explain it.
You think the other ones have better power ups?, Bankai is cooler because is unique, and sometimes it can't get powecrept by another character because of special properties, Naruto has all Kekkei Genkai and he is better than anyone else using them, same with Sasuke and his eyes, with Bleach that doesn't happen, other characters can do stuff Ichigo can't do.
@xanidydexidy Butthurt one piece fan here. Naruto has no power system other than chakra which has no ascended levels. Everything in Naruto is something you can just learn (chakra natures, moves, taijutsu) only thing you can’t learn are Kekkei genkais ( which sasuke found a way to mimic) and tailed beast abilities (which were somewhat mimicked through the rasengan which is just a tailed beast bomb made by a human). The only things Naruto and bleach have similar is chakra=spiritual pressure/reishi. One piece’s forms with awakened Haki and DFs is good but there’s no personal attachment to those abilities. Shikai and Bankai are straight forward and Bankais get stronger depending on your soul and relationship with your sword. So yeah you can be a hater but you’re factually wrong. The other two shows don’t have a similar power system at all and really aren’t comparable if you start digging deeper into the shows lore and feats.
Too be honest banaki isn't the best power compared to one piece and naruto the characters in the show especially in the Tybw is cool and all but I wouldnt say it's the best cause of certain characters that spam it a little too much and in naruto one piece it's much straight forward and easy to understand
Well the characters that spam it are characters that need to do so. Ichigos whole stick is doing everything to save the people close to him, he uses it when things get rough so he can finish it fast. Byakuya can also spam it because its not a bankai that takes a lot from him and its essential to show his ellegance through his thousand cherry blossoms. Hitsugaya is a genious kid who acquired it before other captains, we have to be reminded why he uses his. Its their identity, others who use it once are a special story. Its a bit deeper and Kubo lets you to make up your own story if you take the time to ask some questions
You r missing the whole point, Bleach's power system is a tool for Character development as well... Even the world building us for Character development... Kubo made Bankai such that when it's Activated, it's either a win or a loss for the Person using it, ...While Other's miss that nuance, ...Gear 5 work as a definitive power up for Win, but becomes a narrative joke by the end. ..Naruto's power up work consistently but has little to no effect on Battle, Unless he knows a New jutsu, so...Naruto's system is all about Ninja Techniques rather than buff in power, Hence ultimately has little to no intimate Narrative development for MC or anyone. For Ex: Shikamaru loosing Asuma, didn't make his Jutsus more op, or versatile even tho chakara is derived from a mixture of spirit & physique. Lastly, JJK is very incoherent with DEs, like it's almost like Gods power, when these Mfs aren't even a planet level threats, it's like a badly done Power exaggeration... almost as if Gege wanted it be as cool, unique & Badass as Bankai, while also not putting in the Effort and Insight Required for that to happen. In Bleach, Even names of the power are closely linked with the personas, desires, principles and Goals of Characters. It's as if Kubo designed this story for the Intellectuals and high EQ people to unveil the True Essence of Bleach. People who say "You r overanalysing it, it's not that Deep", ...Clearly haven't red Bleach well, or just don't want to love what the Story iS, cuz they hate it for being way way better than to serie, which they wanted to claim to be better than Bleach, but since they have red it now, they feel Emotionally Constipated. Or prolly both Hate it cuz they haven't red it properly, and hence makes them hate Bleach more cuz, they clearly can't see the High Quality.... and we all know they've purposely Handicapped themselves into not being able to see That Exceptional Quality.
@ska4666 I'm not saying bleach is a bad with power system or anything it's quite good but I don't like the fact how you have to remember 30 different Bankais when watching or reading through the entire show with naruto and one piece it's much more digestible with haki and dojutsu it'd much simpler and straight to the point
@siru8137 Well that's totally your preference then, Fact is... BLEACH's power up is a Totally PEAK, ...Nothing comes close in equivalent impact, who knows about future, but I doubt anything can beat it. btw who needs to remember, Bankais lol.. _Haki & Just plain dojutsu were nice Initially in the serie, but now they go overboard and it's messing up their power system._ ...Simple? ... not to offend u, but now Those "Simple" = "Foolish" Dojutsu totally lack the excitement it used to have back then, ...Haki is such wasted potential. That's Why as of recently i having red bleach, i have been saying, _"BLEACH is best & intimately cohesive Work of Fiction from it's generation"_ Everything, literally from the Names till the Lore of Existence itself is closely linked, and as for those who complain of World Building in Bleach, ..I'll like to say "You utter Fools, are u buddies freakin out of mind? Or got Trash built up in that head?" Bleach's World Building is very different from One Piece, Yes! , but it's an Extremely Ignorant statement to call it's lacking in World Building, ..to the point that it feels Boderline Insane to even think. Bleach's World Buliding is as good, if not better than even OP, ...Just look at Buddhist tradition, You'll basically get a crash course on Bleach Universe Building. It's Just that Kubo's approch is very different from Oda's, ...While oda explicitly prides himself and shows off his world "in a Bird view" Kubo explores Bleach-verse with Hints, while explicitly showing the world scapes. @ska4666 most the time the bankai just wins them the matches as in with naruto they would still use other moves other just like dojutsu based or tailed beast based abilities to actually win said fight other then like the higher up quincys in bleach and naruto not only being based of the tailed beast and dojutsus And plus I do care about remembering the bankais because if you're gonna go in blind and see a character used a bankai you wouldn't really know what's happening you're just using the enemy lose
Hmmm now that you mention it yeah it brings back memories but if I’m not wrong he doesnt hype it up all that much. First time I saw him use it was against Sasuke…. Amaterasu was a bit more hype since he screams it, it was hype BUT they dont do the , wait for it……. NOW’s the time, You’re done bozo type of move in naruto. They just use their power ups to get things done. But genjutsu was fire thats a no brainer, wish we saw more of Itachis in the anime. Thanks for the comment though
Sharingan was quite a cool powerup as it also shows the deep state and irony of the Uchiha clan but everyone knows how effective sharingan is after like Itachi fight, amaterasu is mostly easily dealt with and tsukiyomi is not even used after Itachi arc
@@ShigiAnime Yeah, Itachi was cool because at the time the powers of the Sharingan were still a mystery to us. But after the fight with Itachi we basically got a good idea of what the Sharingan could do if awakened.

I can't bring myself , i read jjk to the end, read op, watched naruto, read bleach and everything. I can't lie to myself, people will notice in time is all I can say
Bankai is more impactful for me than any other power up because, there is a satisfying payoff when using it. I like that many bleach characters always fights with shikai at the start and tries to finish a fight with a shikai it is only in the most desperate times where they will use bankai (well i do remember there are those that spam bankai like byakuya, toshiro or komamura and Ichigo obv) and the execution and the effort they do to reveal the bankai is top notch especially in TYBW. I think also that because before TYBW manga arc started many of us have wondered for a long time what are the Bankai of some of the captains since before TYBW both original anime and manga we’ve seen the captains fight mostly in shikai like shunsui, urahara, unohana, yamamoto, rose, shinji and yoruichi and also kenpachi. I believe that it is in TYBW that the phrase BANKAI has become more solidified and even more solidified when CFYOW came into play.
You make a great point! The way Bankai is used sparingly makes it feel super special when it finally happens. Unlike other anime power-ups that get spammed, seeing a captain finally unleash their Bankai (especially in TYBW) feels like a true "oh snap!" moment that's been years in the making.
Bankai are just too cool bro their so unique and badass, Kubo was cooking when he fucking made these powers, and I think the reason I hold bankai in such high regards is because of how memorable the actual power is and how personal a bankai is. The literal only Df in one piece I hold in high regards when it comes to the story is Luffys because of its narrative importance and symbolism as well as how different and unique the power is to luffy, every time he goes into the form we don't know what he is going to do which is hella fun and intersting and never makes luffys fights boring or predictable.
If only I had your comment when writing my script I could’ve dodged so much hate. But I’ll use this as a key point. Its memorable, LEGIT ALL I HAD TO SAY IN A VIDEO TO NOT GET 50 comments saying dumb shit…
2:37 The value of Domain Expansion didn’t drop and it wasn’t really spammed. An actual point would be that they were over valued, which seemed to be the path you were on pointing out how much stronger they made a character. In Bleach many Bankai don’t even give a stat boost or they a last resort as they can be dangerous for the user and allies. You could have made a much better comparison here.
Lol domains became a chokehold for gege. Needed to invent like 3 different counters for it just to make fights interesting because he made them too busted. Then he invents rct for the brain to keep them in play to make writing even harder lol
The translation od bankai is the final release shich should be the last resort, but some have a stat boost like ichigo who uses his in that way thats why he spams it, but i appreciate your feedback but also please read jadels comment
Bleach was one of my first anime and its my top 5 along with one piece and a few others, and I havent yet seen anything cooler than when a character says BANKAI! and im pretty sure is what people in Japan know too with so many mangaka being inspired by bleach (even tho the rest of the world meatrides naruto and one piece so much calling bleach a failure lmao)
@ShigiAnime his banking is low key the worst in the series it has nothing unique so if ichigo's banking is just a basic stat buff how does that reflect his charater even his knew banking is just a stat buff nothing that reflects his want. to protect others that's the biggest part of his character his want to protect others yet his banking has nothing to do with that
Even everyone has Bankai in the bleach universe like the Quincy and Arrancar. Every arrancars’ resurrection is very similar to a bankai where the hollow try to go back to their true nature. Even Quincy vollstanding boosted their abilities by a lot and reach to their final form to fight.
Vollständig actually dosnt boost their physical stats for most only their Schrift. It also allows usage of Sklaverei which boosts reitsu by absorbing it from surrounding. Lastly resurrection is only shikai for arrancar ironically. Shown by ulquorras sekunda etapa
The thing that you are looking for is with in you. The divine light has always been with in you. To finally understanding you are that. Well its the core of eastern philosophy. Thats why its very attractive.
I agree with your thesis but not as much how you argued it. Might elaborate later but i think its funny to have Lucci when you said people in one piece dont try to goad devil fruit users into using their powers when thats the most recent fight where that exact thing actually happens, Lucci letting Luffy know hes aware of Gear 5 and calls him out for getting in Gear 2 stance
Yeah, I've tried replying to most comments to get more points out, the video would have been fucking 40 minutes long if I said everything I had to, and also there's no better thing than mad OP fans ;)
Brilliant!
People may call ichigo and a few others a "bankai spammer" but it actually makes sense for him to use it a lot. He may have achieved bankai in the soul society arc but he hadn't really mastered it.

9:41 Of course you like Aizen more. That was part of his plan.
I hope Hell arc happens and he’s back
Bankai is self realization and achieving enlightenment.
Domain expansion is definitely not a cheap imitation. A domain is literally a enclosed space while bankai has nothing to do with that. Domains also have to do with a person technique(most of the time not every sorcerer) while shikai almost never have anything to do with a person bankai.
Its preference
(sorry for the long yap session but here we go)
Here's the thing, as a critic i specify things.
Not only the best power ups aesthetically but best written power ups too
Also to touch on the training thing you stated between bankai and Haki.
Its like a gym “winter arc” I think thats a cool concept, and haki idk whats the deal with haki but I’d love to hear your opinion with a real life example of haki
I tried simplyfing things here for you, I hope you understand a bit more.
@@ShigiAnime honestly the whole long thing doesn't feel simplified. It just confused me more
One thing that I like about Bankai is that they have no rule to them that applies to everyone, because each Bankai is unique to its user.
Bankai are all poetic and that’s not in many anime. Kubo is a master of using words and language.
yup and the soundtracks when the bankai rolls are insane
Ichigo is a young fella, dont know if he was around when urahara was in soul society. Urahara is the cheat code
Even if you max out your stats irl, if she bad you wont be able to pull her, even though your stats are maxxed
What I’m sayin if your best is not solving it all then its not meant to be
no disrespect what makes bankai so different and unique to other ability is that every person has there own unique ability and once the user dies the bnkai also disappear...which so much different like naruto rasengan can be used by 4-5 people, u can share yr sharingan just like obito and kakashi...in one piece once the devil fruit user dies the same devil fruit will reapper again sabo gets ace devil fruit after ace dies
oh shit, even I didn't know that
Kinda surprised you didn't quote Byakuya when he fought Ichigo and told him about what having a bankai means.
As much as I love bleach and agree with bankai being unique and cool, a lot of this video didn’t make any sense.
Crazy to say when only 13 captains and like 4-5 leutanant have a bankai "80% of the cast" Lmao
@bleach_nerd don't take it TOO literally.
The uchiha could be just as hype but naruto isnt written that way, bankai is the best powerup/story progression tool in all of anime!!!
nen abilities are the only other thing that works like this to me
where you are super curious about the abilities and how they build upon the initial characters
Hxh anime only here!!!
I love bleach power system because it represents who you truly are and use who you are as a power you can use for its max potential
7:10 Toshiro also spams it all the time.
I totally forgot about him since its not so cool imo
@@ShigiAnime Nah its the opposite his bankai was damn cool, so its fine to spam it

Yeah…… Expecting Anime video “essayists” to try and put actual good arguments into their videos is something of a joke at this point lmao
Not tryna target the dude in the video specifically, but I think this is a problem with most.
I'm a Bleach and JJK fan. I like Bankai's and Domain Expansions, though I had really hoped he'd expand on some of his points. This video was mixed for me. I appreciate the understanding of Bankai but not the condescending of other works and powers.
Domain expansion is complete garbage.
Done.
"Domain expansions come at a risk for the user"
Except no, only if you're weak.
Aight fair point, but that just means domain expansions are boiled down versions of bankai ?
Bankai is not about dominating your inner self. You can't dominate a part of you and expect results. The essence of bankai is about knowing and accepting all of every part of you. Something that takes centuries for soul reapers. That's why they can evolve over time.
@ True bankai or Shukai which one you think is the final final release
The statement at the end is a 10/10

I won't say it's the best power system but i would call it the most hype power system.
Certantly, that's your opinion, i agree its the most hype for sure but the best power system is a stretch. I just like the power up that bankai is, not a power system since its not as detailed as other anime
I think what Bleach teaches us with its power system is that "if you can master yourself, you can master the world and take on any future obstacles to come"
LETS GO KFC kenpachi, well said. I think thats true irl as well

Wait together?!? I’ll look it up
You are just so blatantly incorrect it's baffling.
This 10 minute video can be summed up in two simplistic points:
Bankai are tied to a character's identity;
Bankai are often mysterious.
I'd like to hear more about it so please make a video, I'll do a reaction to it. lets start beef so I can prove all my points
Also doesn't Rob Lucci like directly ask for Luffy to show him gear 5?

you cant compare bankai to devil fruits, devil fruits are a power system. you compare them with the reiatsu or chakra or ki. bankai is a power up/transfomration, you compare it to super saiyan, susano or a devil fruit awakening. not the eyes of the sharingan or devil fruits themselves
He's not going to compare it to Super Saiyan because the agenda this video is trying to push will be completely null and void lol
I love the dojutsu in Naruto though how that sound like rubbing iron just comes when its activated
Wait what
I remember someone commented on a video that de felt like a finishing move while bankai felt like a second stage souls fight, and apparently my brother disagreed with that, saying it was the opposite, however this only applies because of how differently the powers work even in their respective series.
In jjk, there are maybe 3 or 4 lethal domains, with the other half being non lethal, but I think that is more due to them not knowing HOW to make a lethal domains
In bleach, almost all of the bankai are just an upgrade of the shikai, like byakuya’s senbon Sakura to kageyoshi, it is just him getting more blades, and yes i realize that is an over simplification, but you get the point. The only bankais I can think of immediately that are instant kills are shinji’s and rukias, the rest all require some degree of combat like soifon’s, or just mess with too many people, like the lazy captain with 2 zanpactou

I have to apologize, I haven't watched fate. Gerard is the heart though, and renji is dumb...
6:02 so the characters in Naruto don’t call out a predictable/universal power up as that is just a tongue and cheek way of acknowledging the real fight doesn’t start until said power up happens which highlights the repetitive nature of many Bleach fights.
Call it what you want, some characters bankai reveal has more hype behind it than entire animes lol
I look at it with the perspective of, oh its that time. And then he tension starts building up. In naruto the tension wad building up until naruto saw sasukr
Also, yes, rob lucci literally says: "are you going to use that white haired form?" In the scene you used at this exact mark
@ Oy, you cant be fooling around
Kubotards man Kubotards you have to work for your devil fruit power like what?😭😂 Bandkai are asspulls I mean look at kenpachi look at Ichigo vasto lorde form look at muigetsu look at the silver arrow that turned ywach abilities off for 5 seconds……if you actually think bleach characters work hard for there powers or are unique compared to one piece your actually slow lmao Kubotards just accept reality bleach is bland. zanpakuto in general is the best system because of the nature of how they work. the 3 faces of your soul allows for character exposition at every crossroad instead of just adding some story or plot element to justify a characters rise to power, which in a longer running series will happen a lot and muddle the story and cheapen the character’s achievements. kenny and yamamoto are my fav in that regard.
I wish they gave more importance to it in the real story not in the fillers 😭😭
@@ShigiAnime that is fair for sure but i also really like that it doesn’t exposition dump every single time a character shows something new or unique, like kyoraku. he was always shown to be a rather laissez-faire individual who did things out of absolute necessity and duty in battle but then his shikai perfectly encapsulates his lighthearted and playful attitude and personality towards his comrades. and his bankai showing his true nature, a rather tragic and dramatic individual, blowing open his character. all character exposition without shoving it in your face or giving u 4 backstories over the run of 2 episodes to explain it.

Delulu. The best I can say about bleach's power ups is that its top 3 in the big 3 for sure, not top 2 tho unfortunately.
No facts provided so case closed. The jury decided bleach gaps
@ShigiAnime gaps indeed (to the bottom)
You think the other ones have better power ups?, Bankai is cooler because is unique, and sometimes it can't get powecrept by another character because of special properties, Naruto has all Kekkei Genkai and he is better than anyone else using them, same with Sasuke and his eyes, with Bleach that doesn't happen, other characters can do stuff Ichigo can't do.
Tell me that you didn't read bleach without telling me you didn't read bleach. Well done.
Kenny BANKAI in the anime is about to hit different
no SPOILERS, he doesn't have a bankai
@ShigiAnime yea yea you right lol he has two arms 🗣️🗣️🗣️🗣️🗣️
Kubo made Bankai such that when it's Activated, it's either a win or a loss for the Person using it, ...While Other's miss that nuance,
...Gear 5 work as a definitive power up for Win, but becomes a narrative joke by the end.
..Naruto's power up work consistently but has little to no effect on Battle, Unless he knows a New jutsu, so...Naruto's system is all about Ninja Techniques rather than buff in power, Hence ultimately has little to no intimate Narrative development for MC or anyone.
People who say "You r overanalysing it, it's not that Deep", ...Clearly haven't red Bleach well, or
just don't want to love what the Story iS, cuz they hate it for being way way better than to serie, which they wanted to claim to be better than Bleach, but since they have red it now, they feel Emotionally Constipated.
@siru8137 Well that's totally your preference then,
Fact is... BLEACH's power up is a Totally PEAK, ...Nothing comes close in equivalent impact, who knows about future, but I doubt anything can beat it.
btw who needs to remember, Bankais lol.. _Haki & Just plain dojutsu were nice Initially in the serie, but now they go overboard and it's messing up their power system._
...Simple? ... not to offend u, but now Those "Simple" = "Foolish"
Dojutsu totally lack the excitement it used to have back then, ...Haki is such wasted potential.
That's Why as of recently i having red bleach, i have been saying, _"BLEACH is best & intimately cohesive Work of Fiction from it's generation"_
Everything, literally from the Names till the Lore of Existence itself is closely linked, and as for those who complain of World Building in Bleach, ..I'll like to say "You utter Fools, are u buddies freakin out of mind? Or got Trash built up in that head?"
Bleach's World Building is very different from One Piece, Yes! , but it's an Extremely Ignorant statement to call it's lacking in World Building, ..to the point that it feels Boderline Insane to even think.
Bleach's World Buliding is as good, if not better than even OP, ...Just look at Buddhist tradition, You'll basically get a crash course on Bleach Universe Building.
It's Just that Kubo's approch is very different from Oda's, ...While oda explicitly prides himself and shows off his world "in a Bird view"
Kubo explores Bleach-verse with Hints, while explicitly showing the world scapes.
This contrast either leads people to feel restless and irritated for not getting all the details, ...while for more patient people, this creates acute Sense of Mystery... and from a Writter Mindset, This is the Best way to Introduce literally anything.
It's Peak Genius to hold back just enough info.. to make everything work yet making it feel 'something is missing' only to reveal it later at appropriate time, ...Making the Moment Earned For the Audience.
@ska4666 most the time the bankai just wins them the matches as in with naruto they would still use other moves other just like dojutsu based or tailed beast based abilities to actually win said fight other then like the higher up quincys in bleach and naruto not only being based of the tailed beast and dojutsus
And plus I do care about remembering the bankais because if you're gonna go in blind and see a character used a bankai you wouldn't really know what's happening you're just using the enemy lose
Bankai is truly unique. It's a reflection of the soul.
How did sharingan not give you chills? Seeing Itachis Susanoo for the first time...oh my. Love the video tho
Sharingan was always cool but it got less interesting after the Sasuke and Itachi fight
Sharingan was quite a cool powerup as it also shows the deep state and irony of the Uchiha clan but everyone knows how effective sharingan is after like Itachi fight, amaterasu is mostly easily dealt with and tsukiyomi is not even used after Itachi arc

Bleach powers in general are just the most unique powers I’ve ever seen… especially the Bankais and the Schrifts
I meannnnnn kinda i guess ( I say kinda bcs of fire/ice) but kubo did it in his own way thats why its unique
i think most characters in big3 have unique powers that isnt exclusive to bleach and the way they implement them.

"keeps spamming it" Sounds a lot like ichigo, bro spams bankai more than he does getsuga
