🇷🇴 Monasteries of Moldavia: Where Religion Meets Tradition

- Religion has played an important role in the life of modern societies across the world, with good and bad, but before we deep into current times, it’s important to understand how monasteries shaped the world today.
In ancient times, society was gravitating around religious centers like churches or monasteries. Those were the hearts of the small communities. Cultural centers, the places where people were going to socialize, fortresses that, in case of a siege, were able to protect the entire population of a village, and many more.
In most religions, life inside monasteries is governed by community rules that stipulate the gender of the inhabitants and require them to remain celibate and own little or no personal property. The degree to which life inside a particular monastery is socially separate from the surrounding populace can also vary widely; some religious traditions mandate isolation for purposes of contemplation removed from the everyday world, in which case members of the monastic community may spend most of their time isolated even from each other. Others focus on interacting with the local communities to provide services, such as teaching, medical care, or evangelism.
Let’s get back to Moldova and its cultural heritage.
Moldova is one of the most important religious centers of Romania. With that in mind, the region of Bukovina hosts over 10 big monasteries that preserve the traditions of the area.
This video is more of a tour guide of the top three monasteries that made it on my personal list: Putna, Sucevita, and Moldovita monasteries.
One thing those monasteries have in common is that the construction is gravitating around Stephan the Great. He either built after each important military victory, or his illegitimate Petru Rares did it, again after a battle against the Ottoman Empire.

Frumos video și frumoasă prezentare! Muldova este plină de biserici frumoase. În această regiune există cele mai multe biserici din România. Ar merita un videoclip și mănăstirile din Neamț: Agapia, Secu, Neamț etc. De asemenea, în Iași există foarte multe mănăstiri frumoase: Trei Ierarhi, Golia, Cetățuia, Frumoasa etc. Faci o treabă tare bună. Yes, there is Moldova Region in Romania, but also (bordering it) Moldova, the country.
I haven't been to the country of Moldova, so all the videos from my channel are from Romania.
Back in the days it was the Principality of Moldova, a bigger region. Now those lands belong to Romania, Republic of Moldova and South Ukraine. Principality of Moldova was inhabited by ethnic Romanians Moldovans, relates to the Romanians from Maramures and Wallachia. In fact, all the nobility was close related with the royal families from the other Romanian Principalities (for example Stephen the Great, whose father was from a family coming from Maramures and whose mother was from a family from Oltenia). The biggest city and the capital was Iași. Chisinău was created later as a monastery city. In fact, what you know today as republic of Moldova (known also as Basarabia) was the part of the principality that was not very populated. It was the religious centre and the place where Romanian Moldovans had vacation mansions and farms. The Russian empire added later on Basarabia. Romanians took it back but since we lost after the WW2 we had to give it to the Soviet Union. And since then the process of Russification and colonisation of the land started intensively.
