Just found your channel and loving what you do. Great DIY. I am heading up next summer and have done extensive rockfish and salmon fishing over the years, from California to the Kenai. I have never tried Seward and am hoping you can give me some advice. For a guy with a pretty solid base of experience bottom fishing, how hard will it be for us to get on the fish in a rental boat? Plus, loving the videos. Thanks for keeping me feeling connected in the off season.
Awesome. Yes I can help you. I’ve fished that bay for 20 years almost. I’ll tell you some great spots and best advice I can. By the way I grew up fishing souther Oregon, born in gold beach. Find me on FB. Wilbur Graves
Most of the kings we catch now are hatchery kings, fin clipped from Canada and the lower 48. I’ve really enjoyed the past few summers finding them and great eating!!
I thought all kings had to be hatchery kings in order to keep them out of resurrection bay or gulf of Alaska? I only see couple with back top fin intact. Mean those with back top fin are wild kings.
Hi scott Resurrection Bay has no hatchery kings, or wild king runs that I know of. They stopped releasing hatchery kings several years ago These are random kings, many are hatchery feeder kings from the lower 48 and Canada. They make a huge trip in their lives. Two kings per day in Seward. We don’t fin clip salmon in Alaska, at least southcentral Alaska. Kings are not easy to find in Seward, we got lucky that day!
@@savagenorthfishing3259 No king spawning rivers anywhere out of Seward, silver fishing is also nothing like it used to be out of Seward ! You used to see huge schools of jumpers all along the beach going out to Lowell point. Not anymore! Plus their are more orcas then years ago that target kings out of Seward! I worked on tour boats out of Seward, talked to researchers of orcas in the area, they actually target bigger kings! No crap!
@@TroyOttosen-jg7ttyes. I think one reason that we don’t get as many silvers on the beaches because so many of us boaters have figured out that we can get limits of them really quick in early July. As far as the Orca’s, the King’s were at Calisto in June really thick and everyone was limiting until the orcas found them and they were gone. Lots of orcas.
Sewards silver salmon winners used to be 18-20 lbs! Past few years 14 lbs was the largest! You used to catch 50-75 lbs kings all the time on the Kenai back in the 80’s and 90’s! Not anymore, sad.

Nice catch!
Been out on Seward waters for years, what’s sad is how much smaller the kings and silvers are now. Just saying how it is!😳
