Well, nightwish covers a lot of different styles and tones. However... If you want to dig a bit deeper into it, try live versions, and id say you might enjoy most of their Wacken 2013, Tampere 2015, Wembley 2015 and Buenos Aires 2018 shows.
Having said that, Marko, Tuomas, Emppu, and Jukka (or Kai- such cool names) makes me happy. ❤️ Floor will forever be my favorite lead singer. Viva, Nightwish! 🤘🏼

In the studio version there's like a 6 minute poem at the end of this song and it's super beautiful. You should visit it either on camera or on your own time but PLEASE listen to it.

Tuomas writes amazing musical short stories and Floor is the best teller of his tales, the voice he was waiting for.
Most of Nightwish albums are concept alums. Some songs he wrote as a kid. And you are wrong about nobody liking Annette. I really like that era it just ended so quick. Most of the songs Floor sings live with the band are songs that came up with the Annette era. You guys should check her out.

You are asking if Floor could like that from she was a child. Nobody actually can do that. Floor are very very well trained and has been training and challenging her self for many years. She calls herself for a nerd - a voice nerd, that just keeps on expanding her limits. She has been professionally trained in a music conservatorium having learned all the different techniques, but she is also enventing new techniques herself.
That is why she is outstanding - the voice of the century does not come easy
Marco and Floor both have very powerful voices, that compliment each other really well. Marco stays *real* busy outside of Nightwish...he's in 2 or 3 other projects when NW isn't touring. He's even in a Black Sabbath cover band that does covers in Finnish :).
It's really too bad you just missed them. Even though you don't get to see their stadium show/big productions, they're still just awesome live.
What other bands is he in? I really feel like I recognize his voice.

Floor can hit all of Tarja's parts easily and with less loss of diction. She is also capable of growling, raspy rock chest vocals etc. In my opinion Floor has Tarja on all levels.
Floor can most definitely NOT sing all of Tarja's parts easily. Decently, sometimes. Her strength is in her belting and chest voice, but she always starts losing quality going to head voice or slipping into operatic singing. That is the main reason why her voice suits the DPP and Imaginaerum songs the best.
@@marlonlx I mean, I utterly disagree but to each their own. I personally find Tarja to be shrill and harsh to listen to live quite often. Not denying her skill, but I vastly prefer Floor's tone.
@@marlonlx Tarja's voice is nowhere near the quality of Floors operatically, the only people who think it is are people who are emotionally connected to her singing from the start. Whereas I was there at the time was Tarja was lead singer and thought she sounded fake and too muffled with no diction, Floor eclipses her in every way, not that Tarja isn't a decent singer but she was never in Floor's league.
Chris Webb You can certainly say Tarja’s english isn’t the best and that she chose to sacrifice diction instead of quality of sound, but I have to strongly disagree with everything else you said. I can only speak about what I’ve heard of Floor with Nightwish, since I was never the biggest After Forever fan and didn’t get into Revamp, but I always felt she’s less comfortable going into head voice and operatic parts. Her voice sounds much thinner and less strong. Maybe it’s the fact that she usually stays in chest/mix most of the time and then the sudden jump to head voice makes it sound weaker. People love to put Tarja down to lift Floor and I think that’s an insult to both.

Check out Tarja's Phantom of the Opera at their End of an Era concert. That's probably the definitive Tarja song and performance.
Honestly, this is the one night wish song I like studio over live. The live version cuts out a good 6 minutes of beautiful instrumentation and a soliloquy that makes me cry every time I hear it. Definitely a highlight of Imagenaurum for me.

@@The_Pony hell yeah. Touomas' writing is always multi layered and metaphoric. Not for the faint of heart.. Like all fine wines tis to be savored.
You have to see the movie "Imaginaerum" that Nightwish made to complete this album in orde to understand the lyrics!
Also check the studio verison out! It is going on for many minutes longer, containing poems read by the family and friends of the band.
Floor has such a great range. Given she's a soprano she starts in a really low register, but can reach high operatic tones. She can perform Tarja and Anette songs equally well. I think she's able to portray more emotion in her voice than Tarja's purely operatic vocal.

Marco has a great voice. He replaced the original bassist by the 3rd or 4th album and IMO was the most valuable addition to the band due to him being able to offer his voice alongside the female vocals.
There are a ton of Nightwish songs that display his voice. If you really want to check out how well he can belt out check out "Phantom of the Opera", which is a cover of the title song of the musical of the same name. It is also a good song to see Tarja's heavily operatic vocals on their best display.
Also a fun fact is that Marco is actually quite old and in his mid 50's. He started his career in the 80's in the Finnish heavy metal band Tarot with his brother.

This song is about Walt Whitman's Poem - Song of myself.
To me, that means someone with a "great heart" is hurt emotional, but doesn't say anything ("silent suffering") and fakes a smile until it's over, and then just pours everything out without anyone knowing ("sung in silence")
Also, Piano black=Beautiful Emptiness. Pianos generally represent beauty and black generally represents emptiness, so, beautiful emptiness.
"The middle one that nobody liked" well I liked her (Anette) and Imaginaerum is my favourite Nightwish album (movie based on album is great too). Anette was really good and she did grat job, but if you compare her to Floor ofcourse Floor is better but it doesn't mean Anette is bad! She is just completely different, she sings different than floor and Tarja ang have completely different voice, it doesn't mean she can't sing.

Yeah, Imaginaerum is arguably *the* *most* *balanced* - and therefore the best - Nightwish album. And Tuomas wrote the songs specifically for Anette's voice. Floor *is* superior in vocal ability, *and* I do enjoy Endless Forms Most Beautiful immensely, but it's *a* *bit* too over-the-top for its own good.
Finally, a word on Anette's behalf....it gets tiring and unfair when everyone wants to dis her just cause she doesn't sing like Tarja or Floor..

Her talent and capabilities don't have much to do with personal taste.

And i guess, as an outsider cause im not a nightwish fan, Anetta had the bad luck her voice is to different from Tarja's and the fans couldnt get used to it.

Floor V Tarja, my opinion is that Tarja has an ethereal, haunting quality that I have never heard another vocalist match. Tarja's natural voice is better than Floor's...BUT Floor is much better is so many other ways, and I prefer her! 1. Floor has powerful stage presence that I think few professionals equal. She enchants, instantly.
2. In technical precision. I feel like she has trained more than Tarja. She hits each pitch perfectly, unmatched breath control, impeccable timing, dynamics, focus, tone, EVERYTHING. Tarja would slide into a note by accident every once in a while, or lose breath where she shouldn't. She was 95%, Floor is 100%.
3. She is wildly versatile! She can do the classical, resonance 3 parts (operatic style,) then launch into a feral growl of a line. She gives the music a gut and a power, a fire that Tarja and Anete could never match. Heck, I don't think any other musician could.
Pairing her with Tuomas' songs... Match made in heaven.
In alot of ways I don't blame "Tarja" fans for being passionate about defending her. There was a time when I was among them. But then I had to realize that Tarja's time with NIGHTWISH was over. Both sides had moved on in their own way. Tarja and Floor have made their Peace and even performed together. Marco and Floor helped Tarja and a friend of hers put on a Christmas concert. Marco and Floor singing "Ava Maria" and standing next to Tarja for the final singalong. They have moved past the BS. It's time the fans do too.
Try Phantom of the opera (End of an era). It has the first vocalist Tarja and the man you commented about (Marco) singing in it.
Yours is an Empty Hope from the Nightwish cruise to hear Floor growling and gritty and gigantic on stage. You guys are really really good at this.

21:46 Vin and Sori, speaking of Nightingales...you guys need to react to something off the Trees Of Eternity - Hour Of The Nightingale album (doom metal). The singer, Aleah Stanbridge, was dying of cancer while making the album, which makes hearing the songs all that more poignant.

So Toumas originally wrote this song to be sung by the 2nd vocalist Anette. It was off the album Imagenarium which was a concept album that also had a very good movie made after it which has all the band in it.

At the time when this music was written Tuomas was already in a relationship with his current wife and had been for years. The whole relationship drama is stuff that was mainly coming from Tarja's husband who always did seem quite jealous of her. This song is from the album 'Imaginaerum' which was made into a movie. Originally the idea was to make music videos for all the songs so the story for this record was always there. This song in particular is inspired by a poem by Walt Whitman called 'Song of myself'. :)

Nightwish did phantom of the opera live back when Tarja was still lead and that show is amazing so give that a listen and compare the two after
The nightingale reference is (imo) from S. Topelius, old Finnish poet whose lyrics are in an old Finnish Christmas song called Sylvia's carol and it's one of the most beloved Christmas songs in Finland. In that poem Topelius writes about how nightingale is trapped in a cage. It's about being blinded, longing for home, Finland's independence and a lot of symbolism probably only a Finnish person would truly understand.

Floor is at about 16 years old when she started to start singing, she did Rock Academy in the Netherlands in 99 and after 3 years she went to study opera and musical singing and during that part she was the lead singer of After Forever, so she is studied .
When After Forever stopped , she started Revamp and then it was Nightwish. Revamp and Nightwish were same time , but when she was in Nightwish for good , she stopped Revamp.
Magnificent song selection. It is a very elegant song with a profound message. Keep the good work. PS: After Tarja left NW, a female singer called Anette Olzon replaced her. She (Anette) is the singer that originally recorded Imagenaerum, the album that contains "Song of myself". If you want to know about the three singers styles, there are a couple of videos where vocal coaches analyze them.

Go listen to Swallow The Sun - Cathedral Walls, where Anette Olzon did guest vocals on. Most people, on first listen, think that it is Liv Kristine (ex-Theatre Of Tragedy, ex- Leave's Eyes) singing, but it's Anette.

People were so blind and emotionally bound to Tarja back then, that she never had a chance despite of how hard she tried. If I listen to her Nightwish songs I clearly see a lot of beauty in her singing.

Annette did have a great voice, she didn't have the metz sopranos voice and stage presence. But there is some great Nightwish songs during her era, like moedows of heaven... Sad she gets so much hate, she sounds great in Dark Element.
I really like the Dark Passion Play album. 'The Poet and the Pendulum' convinced me of her voice a lot. Yes, it was different and she had her technical struggle with old material, but I never understood the rage from the fans. It's not like she didn't have anything to offer.

This song is based on the poem Song of Myself by Walt Whitman. It's basically Tuomas' version of it - the song is about himself.
I think you guys should react to The Islander by them. It's sung by Marco alone (well, almost). It's a very folksy song, very different side of the band and also amazing.

Watch Nightwish End of an Era it was Tarja's last filmed live concert. Personally I prefer Floor over Tarja now. Floor I believe is versatile as a singer, where Tarja I think is a one trick pony with the full opera singing.

What people often miss is that Tuomas writes every note to all the classical instruments in the background. When they play with full symphony orchestra, that's all Tuomas.

Almost. Marco writes and co-writes some. While Your Lips Are Still Red was written more by Marco. He also co-wrote Master Passion Greed and a handful of others but Tuomas is the Maestro. Tuomas has said Floor helps with some structuring ("I need a breath here", "singing it this way will sound like mumbling"), this is something Tarja and Anette did not do. And of course, Tuomas did not write the cover songs like "Phantom of the Opera" and "High Hopes"...

If you like Marco singing together with Floor doing those cool vocal effects you probably like "Romanticide" as well. It also one of Nightwishs more heavier songs.
Another tip would be "Master passion greed". It's completely performed by Marco and heavy af.
Ghost river is an equally great example of hwo those 2 work so well together, and Marco has even more lines in that song.
Marco (The bassist) is amazing as both a bassist and very underrated as a vocalist. And both he and Floor harmonize together beautifully.
