Love these wedges. Played Callaway wedges for many, many years. Raw 54/10 and raw 58/12 in the bag now.

I'd guess Callaway did their research and found that most people only hit full shots with their 52° wedge, and decided having that extra bit of relief on the leading edge wasn't necessary and might even promote a blade/chunk on full shots. Most will use the 56° and 60° for chips or bunker shots, so having that grind on the leading edge for more versatility in opening the face is worth it.

I own the Jaws fulltoe 64° in black. After two weeks, we are friends.😉 the raw face is very spiny and a weapon for short pin position over bunker or water.
Meantime, full swing over 82/85 yards with good results and nice spin👌
Thinking, its the same face on this "normal" Jaws wedges.
Take care and have fun with your new swing👍 (for me a little bit to static/stiff, but when it works🤷🏻‍♂️)

I agree that they should have extended the front grind on the 52s. I've recently moved from a 3 wedge to a 2 wedge 52 58 setup and I've bent a 56/14 into a 52/10 for exactly the reason you stated - I want the heel and toe grind shape of the higher lofted wedges on by 52 which I now use for a lot of chipping around the green.

I have made some swing changes myself. Like you take more inside. Slightly over the top, but not that it is really that noticeable or as exaggerated as one would think of being over the top. Find I strike the ball better. Will have to check those new wedges. I use Callaway. Love them.

callaways been doing an amazing job on wedges that last 5 years - their MD5 range was so good they didn't come out with a new wedge for almost 3 years with the JAWS raw.

Been considering giving these a test drive. Not sure on all the grind options and not really up for a wedge fitting so I guess the S grind would be best. Although I do like the larger relief area on the X grind, but prefer a 10 bounce - especially if I only have one wedge. The relief area design is not unlike the Smart Sole of the Cleveland chipper. My experience with the black finish is that it will inevitably start to wear and some silver will show through. I know it happened on my chipper so I assume it would be the same for the Callaway wedges. Personally, I would still opt for the black. Well done sir.

My 54 s grind and 60 z grind just came in today! Let me say they are stunning! 54 s grind is more similar to that of the 56 s grind because Callaway classifies both as sand wedges.

    These new wedges look stunning👍
But I'm much more interested in this Swing change, (I can't remember if it has been mentioned before but I spotted the new takeaway immediately).
Can we have some vids on the swing change, please????? I always LOVE a good swing change vid👍👍
PS the new swing looks much better and has eliminated your "over the top" re-routing in the downswing, well done👍👍👍👍

@@TheAverageGolfer That's great news and it will be good to see Lewis on the channel again.
I'm looking forward to see how the swing change goes for you, I have been working on my own less than perfect swing this year, with some interesting results.
Like you, I had a tendency to take the club too far on the inside which caused me to come over the top in the downswing. So I'm really interested to see how Lewis implements the changes in your lessons, (it will be a bit like a free lesson for me, I'm such a tight arse) lol

Do you find you are coming over the top with the new swing? I just went to a flatter backswing to help shallow the club and have played a lot better. Lowered my handicap from 8-3. No more occasion thin shots. Why are you changing? I noticed my swing was much like your old one.

  • @kevinwood1722

Good review, I think wedges are just about as personable as putters. There’s good ones out there but someone might not care about the more expensive price tag of the Ping Glides for example, if it feels just right for them. I like the feel of those wedges but found ones good enough for me at a much lower price point.

  • @facial26

Don’t have the newest ones but picked up a couple of them at the cheaper price later last year and like them as much as anything right now. I was using Hogan wedges, which I put in my secondary bag, to go with my 0211s. Wedges have gotten ridiculously expensive imo, especially for the club that wears out the most in the bag.

I can tell you exactly why they chamfered the leading edge. It’s because nobody knows a thing about BOUNCE these days. I used to be a club builder and wedge bounce was the #1 thing I needed to know. Not the loft. What they have done by grinding away at that leading edge, is to create more BOUNCE then Callaway offers in a wedge. The most you can get is 12. I use 14’s and nothing less than a 12 degree bounce on any wedge. Look up Srixons irons, or Ben Hogan irons. All of those irons have more bounce on the leading edge that today’s wedges. That is to keep you from getting too much turf and making cleaner pick offs off the top of the ground as that bounce keeps you from being able to dig too deep. Get some bounce schooling man. It’s been around longer than you, but nobody knows a thing about it, because people with UA-cam channels never mention it, because they have no clue why it’s there.
