The 200 endings was something that was taken out of context. Lot of people didn’t watch the full interview and this was done early on development. Here’s the full quote. Todd Howard: “Being that we are Bethesda…everything gets a bit big. So as of last week we’re over 200 endings. That is not an exaggeration, but it deserves some description. 200 endings…that’s a lot. So originally when we started, we had various iterations of the ending. The ending is kind of cinematic, that’s dynamic based on the things you’ve done. When we started, it was kind of fuzzy, it was like “well there’s like 9 maybe 12″ and we started adding things to it. So if you had done this or not this, you’d get this other tweak to the ending. And we kept doing that. And you know even just two weeks ago someone had this idea, “Oh we should add this idea to the ending” (sorry I’m not going to spoil what that is). And I said, “oh that’s a genius idea, we have to do that.” But then it became, “oh, but there’s four versions of that.” So i was like, “okay there’s like four different versions of that part,” and that multiplies by, at the time we were at about 60 endings…so now there’s four versions of that, so now there are around 240 versions.” The games on paper when we get started…they’re alot smaller, and then as we go they get bigger…we can’t stop ourselves. We’re have tons of people with good ideas here, and if they’re good and fit the tone, we’re going to try to jam as much into the game as possible. Fallout is probably twice the size of what we originally had on paper…it’s pretty big, so that’s what’s happened with the endings. So some of that stuff is the big things of what you do very late in the game, some of those are things like your karma - how you’ve lived your life from the beginning of the game - you get certain scenes based on your karma. But we kind of like the ending as much as like the game itself at the beginning is you tailoring your character and then you play throughout this game, and unlike Elder Scrolls, where it’s a game where you can keep playing, Fallout 3 has a definite ending. So we wanted to go to efforts to make sure that the actual ending you get when you finish and get the ending, and make that ending reflect and make it individual to the user’s experience. We’ve definitely gone a little overboard.”
I always took the 200 to mean some combination of things rather than independent states and it makes sense you can get up to 200 quickly. if you just take the temple of the union you have •finished the quest- side with slaves •finished the quest- side with slavers •started the quest, didn't finish and presumably some variation if someone died. then if you multiply it against the main quest with two endings that is 8. The quote is still dumb/an exaggeration though in my mind as most "endings" are just a different combination of slides and voiceovers that occur at the the end, rather than each thing effecting the whole combination of the ending- it is more like adding things to a grocery cart than adding things to a soup where they actually effect each other

I never even stopped to consider how odd it is we never see horses in the Mojave. It would make perfect sense to ride across the desert instead of walking when given the choice, plus the obvious themes of the wild west and cowboys speaks for itself. I know they could never have incorporated horses into gameplay realistically, but I wish we could've gotten a cooler reason for their absence than just "idk they all dead 🤷♂️".

The story of 4 and a lot of moments in game are certainly written with a male protagonist in mind. Like the veterans lodge speech. The fact that your male PC can wear power armor without training because they’re like a war vet, but your housewife female PC with a law degree can use PA “just because man, don’t think about it”.
41:16 this is fascinating because Cube is a horror movie which is about a group of people who wake up trapped in a cube and have to escape, avoiding deadly traps. The characters include a mentally handicapped man who turns out to be a mathematical savant, which is linked to Dog and God, a neurotic architect who designed parts of the cube not knowing what the plans were for before being unwilling put in it, which is similar to Dean and his history with the Sierra Madre, and a doctor who is eventually betrayed by the main character, which I suppose draws links to Christine but i dont know exactly. Also the main character in Cube is slowly revealed to be evil and goes out of his way to kill the others trapped with him, which is similar to how you can kill your companions in Dead Money when following Elijah's instruction. Tl:dr Cube is a film which is clearly a massive inspiration for Dead Money, and is also an incredible film by itself
glad to see you defend f76 a bit lol. its definitely not for everyone (I love it) but you're absolutely right- its very clear that there are a lot of very passionate, hard-working people behind the scenes. while you can see bethesda's hunger for money cropping up in places (the atomic shop & fallout 1st), the events, worldbuilding, and writing is so much fun. surprisingly, it's ended up having one of the best battlepass systems I've personally come across. they recently updated it to make it even better, as someone who isn't paying for it, i still feel like im getting a lot out of it. im not sure if its been confirmed whether or not the big npc update was planned from the beginning, but either way, the devs ability to adapt based on fan input is admirable. the initial launch was such a huge flop, they could have easily cut their losses & gave up, but they put out so many major updates that it feels in many ways like a totally different game.
55:15 The way I've heard it was that Joshua in Van Buren basically just would have set your reputation into negative one with literally every faction, and count as a shitload of negative Karma... So nobody would want to co-operate with you, and every town would just hate you... They wouldn't attack you on sight, but you'd be locked out of most side content as questgivers probably dont want to talk to you... In exchange for dealing with this, Joshua would've been absolutely godlike in combat, just carrying the player through combat.
6:32 Fallout 76 being developed by a B team refers to the experience of the development team who produced the game. Specifically, the branch in Austin who worked on overall development, were from a relatively small studio that Bethesda had just recently acquired. They were previously "Battlecry Studios", who were working on an Overwatch style Hero shooter pvp game called BattleCry at the time. At the time of their purchase, the company hadn't released a single title. They were an unknown group, with a completely failed project (BattleCry never released) and were put in charge of a game that was by all accounts (theirs and reviewers) well outside their experience to produce.
The fallout 76 b-team is in reference to the fact that it wasn't the Bethesda studios office in Bethesda, Maryland that was the primary developer of the game, but rather the one in Austin. Their wikipedia page references modifying the creation engine for fo76 for multi-player.
I think it just needs to make the supernatural elements 'questionable'. For example, Dunwich building/borers. Is what you're seeing actually magical? Or are you hallucinating due to radiation/drugs. Or the Interloper. Is it an otherworldly being, or just a crazy mutant? It's something that could honestly go either way. Meanwhile, Fallout 2 having you exorcise a literal ghost. just fuck you, here's a ghost. That's incredibly stupid.
4:58 Mantis, this means to do the instructions of the Yangtze in the wrong order, when putting the wrong part in, it will explode the Yangtze. The more you know!
The thing with the aliens, starting the war and all that, is referring to in fallout 3 the DLC there is an interview of a US army soldier or something like that giving the aliens the nuclear launch codes
When I first played Fallout 4 and Kelloge spoke through Nick I thought that there would be more of that and if I later chose to side with the Institute I'd have to override Nick's personality with Kelloges.
5:17 Nuking yourself in the Yangtze probably refers to what happens in the quest if you put the warhead before the dampening coil during the quest to fix the submarine, which causes the submarine to explode.

Also the main character in Cube is slowly revealed to be evil and goes out of his way to kill the others trapped with him, which is similar to how you can kill your companions in Dead Money when following Elijah's instruction. Tl:dr Cube is a film which is clearly a massive inspiration for Dead Money, and is also an incredible film by itself
video came in clutch i might actually get some work done lmao
Lmao my thoughts exactly
Thanks for giving me something good to listen too while working
Great video to do some house chores and eat breakfast to
Great idea!!
Wish the visuals of this video lined up with the discussion a bit more
glad to see you defend f76 a bit lol. its definitely not for everyone (I love it) but you're absolutely right- its very clear that there are a lot of very passionate, hard-working people behind the scenes. while you can see bethesda's hunger for money cropping up in places (the atomic shop & fallout 1st), the events, worldbuilding, and writing is so much fun. surprisingly, it's ended up having one of the best battlepass systems I've personally come across. they recently updated it to make it even better, as someone who isn't paying for it, i still feel like im getting a lot out of it.
im not sure if its been confirmed whether or not the big npc update was planned from the beginning, but either way, the devs ability to adapt based on fan input is admirable. the initial launch was such a huge flop, they could have easily cut their losses & gave up, but they put out so many major updates that it feels in many ways like a totally different game.
I love Fallout Tactics tbh, it has its unique charm, related to Fallout 1 and 2 but also reminds me of games like Gorky 17 or Commandos in a way.
Thank you lore papi
Ahhh I had the worst week and this video is about to make me feel sm better
Always happy to see your content in my feed homie 🙌
55:15 The way I've heard it was that Joshua in Van Buren basically just would have set your reputation into negative one with literally every faction, and count as a shitload of negative Karma... So nobody would want to co-operate with you, and every town would just hate you... They wouldn't attack you on sight, but you'd be locked out of most side content as questgivers probably dont want to talk to you...
In exchange for dealing with this, Joshua would've been absolutely godlike in combat, just carrying the player through combat.
Everytime i see a long form mantis video im like cool i can sleep to this in the background...... I never go to sleep lol
RIP MittenSquad
Good morning king

The fallout 76 b-team is in reference to the fact that it wasn't the Bethesda studios office in Bethesda, Maryland that was the primary developer of the game, but rather the one in Austin. Their wikipedia page references modifying the creation engine for fo76 for multi-player.
I adore that the world of Fallout has both supernatural and science fiction elements.
I could find one, that being the one in vault 111, quite an interesting mini-game, also great video!
Thanks for the shirt in Goodsprings!
The thing with the aliens, starting the war and all that, is referring to in fallout 3 the DLC there is an interview of a US army soldier or something like that giving the aliens the nuclear launch codes
I really enjoy and look forward to your content TK. Keep up the good work! ❤
Dinosaur Footprint could just be another Reference to Godzilla, kinda like how New Vegas has Gojira.
Im stating it now. The next fallout game we have will have Valentine as a companion with Kellogs persona in him
Wooot
Woooot!
Lovely content my friend!
Great stuff as always, if you could do more icebergs I would appreciate it, love your long form stuff
Mantis out here role playing a homeless serial killer with a broken beer bottle during Christmas. 🤣
When I first played Fallout 4 and Kelloge spoke through Nick I thought that there would be more of that and if I later chose to side with the Institute I'd have to override Nick's personality with Kelloges.
Great video for work. It seems like live or uploads I have to tune in
39:50 I'm taking it as headcanon that footprint belongs to Maypole, the cut ghoul giant.
regarding "fallout 3 throwing", it's still in the game files but it's not used. its slot in the engine replaced by survival in new vegas
Awesome video, I like everything fallout. Just couldn’t get through the whole video with the amount of advertising in it.
Thought u would do ur own iceberg instead of just commenting (not always precisely) but still good one
With the Chinese sub, if you don't load up the engine in the order the Captain requests, the sub detonates and kills you.
Just finished. The ones even you didn't know about were the most interesting. Another vid please?
Fantastic video!
