British Columbia’s Forestry Woes, Explained (w/ John Brink, Brink Group)

  • In December 2021, ‪@vancouversun674‬ columnist ‪@vaughnpalmer251‬ Vaughn Palmer penned a startling piece about British Columbia’s forest industry. His headline read, “BC forest companies expanding at a rapid pace, but not at home.” That means BC-based forest companies were and continue to invest heavily in wood product production everywhere except the home province they come from.
The flow of forestry capital out of BC is accelerating, including investments made by Canfor, which last year invested $420 million to acquire Alberta-based Millar Western Forest Products. And the rush to get out of BC continues to spiral upward; on the day of this recording, Canfor announced the closing of a pulp line in Prince George, terminating 300 jobs.
It’s not all bad news. John Brink, the founder of the Brink Group company, is a successful entrepreneur who came to Canada with the proverbial 25 cents in his pocket. He went to work at a sawmill north in the 1960s. He set his sights on owning a wood products manufacturing company. He succeeded and continues to thrive despite the troubles the industry faces. Brink says, “It was my dream and it is my passion to ensure forestry products and jobs remain a vital part of the BC economy.”
We invited John Brink to join us for a ‪@ConversationsThatMatter‬s about how we got to the current state of forestry in BC.

We need to start getting Forestry facts out there rather than the Constant bombardment of misinformation from ecoterrorist and other environmental extremist that are funded by out of country money why are we not seeing commercials showing what a clear-cut looks like after 20 years. you can drive any back country Road in British Columbia and see Our amazing Forest practices with all the replanted clearcuts.yet The British Columbia government doesn’t seem to care too fight the miss information. The general public just thinks loggers butcher and clear-cut and leave everything a mess. Next is sustainability. we need to get away from these giant mills with there large corporations and their super contractors and get back to family owned logging companies

Seems to be a reasonable approach. There must be some common sense put back into this industry from all parties.

You certainly wouldn’t guess the Timber is owned by the people if you have a look at towns like Mackenzie BC. Probably a million board feet a day leaving town will be a ghost town soon as the government not only allows this extreme over logging of the area but subsidizes it as well.

With natural forest fires occurring more, why are we allowing Draxx biomass pellets to slow burn our forests legally? This is used for UK Energy, WEF.
