It's good for me because I am not a gossiper and I am selective of friends whom I am going with. What makes me grow as a better person is what I consider most. ❤ Amen ❤

I'm 71 and have been addicted to opiates for over forty years about ten years ago I'd had enough so I sought medical help. Early in my treatment I slipped up and used, initially I thought I'll just lie to my doctor but I just couldn't do it so I admitted to my doctor that I'd slipped up . Initially my doctor was stunned because the vast majority of addicts simply keep it to themselves but she appreciated my honesty and the respect she has had for me since has kept me clean. She hasn't sprung any surprise urine tests on me and we've got on very well since that day. When I was young my father used to say, "Honesty is the best policy" he was right.

I’m 62 years old and now I prefer if people don’t care for me. They don’t pay my bills and I’m doing just fine without out them in my life. Don’t sweat it and consider it a blessing.

Thank you for sharing your perspective! It's great to hear that you've found peace in being independent and focusing on what truly matters to you. You’re absolutely right-at the end of the day, people who don’t pay your bills *should not help* shape your self-worth. It’s definitely a blessing to feel secure and content in your own life. Wishing you continued peace and happiness! 😊

In May of 1975 I joined the United States Marine Corps and all the training that I went through reminds me a lot like Stoicism. My training has cared me down the path of life to this very day and I have grown into the greatness of what and who I am today. I possess a Sigma Empath personality and I am a kind, giving and caring man but people take that as a weakness from time to time and they soon learn that was a grave mistake on their part. I do not tolerate people who are negative, gossiping, complaining, disrespectful and self centered idiots at all. At 67 years old and being a retired and disabled Veteran I have enough of my own issues and it is a full time job maintaining a very positive and joyful life and to live my dream the best I can while I can. I do not have time to waste on other peoples negative bull shit. I could say a whole lot more but enough said. Thank You for this awesome uplifting video. I wish you an awesome day, take good care!

*When we gossip, those present may wonder if we spread rumors about them too. On the positive side, I was sitting with a group of family members when one of my three daughters was gossiping about her brother-in-law, and I stood up for him. Thank you for sharing your experience! You're absolutely right-gossiping can harm trust and make others question our intentions. Standing up for someone, like you did, is a great example of integrity, and it’s wonderful that your wife recognized it too. As Stoics, we believe that spreading negativity Should Not Help in any way, and instead, we should strive to uplift and protect others. Keep practicing these values! We’d love to hear more of your insights-welcome to the 'STOIC IN YOUR LIFE' community!

@MG-ot2yr Absolutely, shutting down negative talk about others is a great way to maintain respect and integrity. It's easy to fall into the trap of 'talking shit,' but staying above that shows real strength of character. Thanks for sharing your thoughts-it's great to see like-minded people here! Keep up the good work and stay strong in your Stoic practice!

      @StoicInYourLife  27 днів тому

Thank you so much for your thoughtful comment! You're absolutely right-keeping ourselves presentable and avoiding harmful habits like gossiping is so important. It's true that gossip can be addictive, but it really only leads to negativity. We should focus on building each other up rather than tearing others down. We should not help spread negativity, and instead work towards being more mindful of our actions. Thanks again for sharing your insight!

I worked as a volunteer for seven or so years.
The boss was the passive aggressive type, the silent and sarcastic type.
It was like "Days of our Lives".
A toxic workplace where the boss was like a local celebrity but the workers were not appreciated.
Maybe the boss thought he was "stoic" by being so arrogant and non communicative ?
In the end I left, never knowing where I really stood.
I worked hard but felt mocked.

Depends on what you call "gossip".
Sharing information is part of life, especially if warning someone of a danger which you know to be true.
People also can work towards solutions by expressing their interpersonal struggles.
If everyone was 100% stoic, nobody would speak.
Intimidating people so that they remain silent and never speak out, is enabling the predators and manipulators to flourish.
Just be mindful about who you speak of, and how, to whom, and why.
    Be sure of the facts.
Only judge where it is very necessary.
If someone confides in you, do not betray them.
Often it can be best to not mention names.
If people gossip about me, that's their business.
If they are fair and honest, then so be it.
Too much gossip will end up revealing more about yourself than your subjects.
Too much political correctness can turn everything into meaningless double speak and superficial non truth.
Do not be a slave to the opinions of others.
    Stick to truth.
Saying nothing, can also be held against you over time.
Obviously don't become the town gossip who knows everyone else's business.
Spreading malicious opinions about others to make yourself feel good, is a toxic form of gossip.
    Not all gossip is toxic.
Some of it is local knowledge.
    Exercise caution, discretion, and integrity.
