    Thank for helping us identify contamination. I’ve never tried TC but I would like to try someday and this helps to make sure I don’t get ripped off because a lot of sellers don’t supply refunds. I’ve usually found that the dishonest sellers won’t make a bad purchase right. I hope this helps these sellers to do better with the product they’re selling.

    I have to say, I personally see some things a little different. I like to buy from resellers that I know. Some plant shops go into the laboratories and are very close to the process. They know what ingredients are used etc., and are not clueless. And for me, this way it's actually affordable. Purchasing from the laboratory can be super pricey. The ones somewhat closer to me are just so overpriced for no reason. Like I can buy an adult plant for less. The rest are usually in asia or the US like you said. Shipping a package around the world for a single tc order is a waste. The shop can buy in bulk, ship everything in one go and then still sell it to me for less. I always get my stuff in glass bottles with instructions, and they have fair refund policies. Resellers are not the problem, shady resellers are the problem I would say. Also I do like discounted tc's. Of course not when there's obvious contamination, that's an absolute no go! I was shocked to see what you showed. But if just a few leaves are browning so the plant doesn't look perfect, it's just like a sad plant sale. I enjoyed the input and appreciate the video💚 The etsy people are something else, lol.

    I needed this video a week before. Ha. I ordered tc from another big You Tube channel and actually asked if they were in house or reselling. I was told they were in house. When the bag arrived they had clearly been in the bag way too long. The root ball was huge and brown and most of the roots simply melted and came off. I was able to save most of them using your acclimation process. I also put 5 back into tc media but they were very small and roots mostly came off. Sooooo lesson learned. I’m new so I was simply learning to move tc back into media. But I am now in the 101 group. Thanks for all your videos! You’re awesome and the reason I now have a breaking bad looking office.

    I used orange lake nursery a few time, I’ve had two that didn’t survive shipping, 5 rotted in acclimation, 1 survived I found it had rotted 50% of the roots when I was l transplanting out of nursery pot after acclimation. ALL of the plantlets had black or mushy roots after deflasking, some having very little viable roots after cleaning. They all shipped in those plastic bags. I’ve never gotten plants from them that didn’t have some rot present after shipping.

    I have done business with teenyplant quite a few times through TC101 group , everything is always perfect, tbh they're my goto. i have also been invited to their "lab" in Florida, I have not taken them up on the offer yet but may have to, i don't know how much is cultured in the US vs Thailand, I do believe they're doing both though.

    Thank you, Lauren! 100% on point. Having my own small TC laboratory, I know how hard it is to compete with prices offered by those reselling. And thank you for pointing to the importance of getting phytosanitary certificate! So many people ignore this. I tried to make several posts about the importance of these phytosanitary certificates on Facebook groups and the admins deleted them all :( Petr (you got a few plants from me recently :)

    The regulation for import into Canada is quite similar to the US, you need an import permit, the import permit has to be shipped with the package with a valid phyto. The difference is that the permit application is not free 😢.

    I use Orange Lake Nursery and have had zero problems so far. A couple of bags I bought from them were in rough condition, but they gave me a second bag in each case. My experience with them has demonstrated excellent customer service and after-purchase support. However, I do not agree with how you badmouthed other companies in this video. You could have posted the examples without listing companies that are basically your competition.

      To be fair, she isn’t saying to buy from her. She even recommends a Facebook group for buying directly from countries like Thailand. I feel she has a point-it’s better if you have the time and ability to buy directly, and it’s often cheaper. I’ve also seen some people in the U.S. with high-quality tissue-cultured plants, and I get the impression they’re doing it themselves. It’s not as cheap, but the quality is there. In the end, just do your own research. I’ve spent a lot of time searching for suppliers and ended up buying from the ones that suited me best.

But Stacey’s garden is a reseller but she is the sweetest person ever! I hope you really don’t talk bad about her. She is an awesome person, and a good mother trying to put her children through college by selling TCs. So we really shouldn’t bring people down we don’t know anything about. I’ve bought many off Stacey and they’ve all been great. If they haven’t she’s fixed the issue. We should bring each other up.

      Thanks for your comment, and I’m glad to hear that you’ve had a great experience with Stacey's Garden-she sounds like a dedicated person doing her best, and I respect that. The point of the video isn't to bring down individuals, but to point out drawbacks of purchasing tissue culture plants from resellers and offer a better alternative.

    • @LifeWithLeavesGH

      @@plantsinjars I understand that completely. As a person that resales and also TC’s myself finding a good in vitro plant can sometimes be challenging but Stacy’s garden shows you the exact one you get and if there is a problem she refunds/fixes. She’s doing it to put her children through college not to get rich. You mentioned a big nursery on here and said you loved them but I however got a $200 var Jacklyn and some other things from them that was crap. So I guess lots of it has to do with personal experience too. I would hate to be a seller and see my name on your video when a lot of these people look up to you and value your opinion. It would crush me. Maybe there was a way to do it without name dropping people.

      Stacey resells Bella’s TCs (Bella is not a reseller), which come from Bella’s (of Bella&Plants) family’s lab in Thailand. If you respect Stacey, maybe ask her opinion on Bella before posting further poor feedback (Or, you could just reach out to the sellers/suppliers/manufactures you’re speaking ill of to ask them about their products and business). Bet Stacey can tell you alllll about the Graveyard TCs and the *joke* of no judgement for liking the feel of the gel.

    I'm pretty disappointed to hear that the companies I've been buying TC plantlets from are resellers. It especially is disappointing and dishonest to represent them TC plantlets as their own. That being said, I literally have purchased over 100 TC Plantlets this year from all of those sellers. With probably half from Orange Lake Nursery. However, some came in looking a little rough but NONE of them got contaminated and I've had a 100% acclimation rate with these resellers TC Plantlets. So, while all of this is a bit troubling, I've either been very lucky or the reselling of TC Plantlets may be a fairly safe practice? Probably somewhere in between.

    • @Frooj
      @Frooj 2 місяці тому +1

      This video really seems like more of a scare tactic than anything. I have bought from all these sellers as well as sourced my own imports for reselling. While many may have contamination it absolutely does not affect the plants survival rate once taken out of culture and cleaned off.

    • @ekgheiy
      @ekgheiy 2 місяці тому +1

      Agreed. Somewhere in the between. I'm still not sure I understand the aversion to "resellers". Aren't big box store technically resellers of TC plants too? Granted, end-customers aren't doing the acclimating, but the plant is still TC. I suppose I'm not as up-in-arms because I didn't have any expectations of the reseller I used. They didn't state they did the lab work; they didn't state they did not do the lab work either. Their website was also transparent about the risks of the acclimation process. And since big box stores resell, it doesn't bother me the TC labs do it too. So I'm not sure why I would want to spend more money importing direct from overseas. 🤷

      @plantsinjars I have many examples of plants that I received in contaminated that I deflasked myself and the survival rate is equivalent to those that don't have contamination. @joanniejett 2 місяці тому

    Great video! I hadn't realized people weren't doing their own tissue culture for online reselling. I found tissue culture while I was researching Agave propagation. This was a really helpful video. It seems to me the best process for an importer would be to subculture upon arrival into new "stabilizing" media instead of growth or multiplication media. Once an order is placed it is transferred aseptically into the retail shipping vessel. And I would imagine a specific set of protocols for each shipped media so that the end customer is fully aware of how to handle and properly dispose of the media. If the plant is transferred multiple times during this process, the shipping media could likely be very focused on root development instead of multiplication or variegation. Working with Yucca and Agave is difficult to turn revenue when often the plants have lifespans longer than me and I've often wondered if these kinds of plants into the Austin area would support work on the native plants. This helps me process a little better how to do that in an ethical way. Im growing a thai constellation and another something albo in my greenhouse right now and I am hoping they will be a couple quality mother plants. Setting up a lab seems like the best way to go if the market is open like that. I just thought there were labs already in the US because I would love that job.

    Bella’s TCs come from her family’s lab in Thailand (not a reseller, do your research, please). She sells directly from inside the lab when she’s there. The “squishing your fingers through the media” thing is a joke… she says do what you want, including that, she’s not here to judge. People buy them for $0.50 and attempt to save them. No need to drag perfectly reputable business women through the mud for making a joke. This is exactly why America needs their coffee to say “Warning, Hot” or why Costco had to recall butter for not warning it contained milk 🙄. Would you feel better if she wrote that you need to wear gloves?

This video, calling out domestic sellers that you feel aren’t selling high quality TC, I think the education is fair and you are doing good work talking about it. But, before bashing other people’s livelihood, I think it is a decency thing to reach out to them first, ask if you can ask questions and give them a chance to comment. I think that’s only fair before potentially hurting their livelihood. Again, love your content and the intent, I’d just ask that a seller you plan to criticize, you reach out to them and give them a chance to comment before posting about them. But thank you for the great things I’ve learned from you!
