I'm still rocking the XT1 and this EF-x8 flash. I'm not a pro, but when a flash is needed, this little inexpensive flash does a commendable job. I just leave it on now even for day time events, as the fill flash works wonders.
I use mine on minimum setting to trigger off camera flashes, which are set in slave mode. The EF-X8 also adds just a little fill flash, which is perfect! I wish it worked on all Fujifilm cameras.
just a heads up, you can assign the viewfinder brightness preview to a user button so you can quickly toggle it on and off. makes the whole experience much more enjoyable :)
What sad about this flash is you cant bounce the light.fuji could have designed it that way,so that we can bend it back for bouncing, but they didn’t.what a shame
Glad it was helpful. In my opinion this flash is best for close-range subjects, so it would probably not be best for large rooms/spaces. A trade-off of it being small/portable is that it's not very powerful.
I have this since I got my xt2 but I’ve never even used it because it can only be used as a frontal flash which causes weird looking shadows in every shot. I feel it’s like using those on camera flashes included in semi profesional Canon cameras like 70d, 7d, etc. I mean it’s really nice how little it is but I would rather take photos on a super high iso or in super fast aperture.
For sure. It being fixed as a frontal flash means you do end up with a very specific look. Lucky for me, I enjoy the look and think it resembles old point and shoot flash photography. I'm also not using the flash for professional gigs and just casual shooting!
You are not wrong, a very straight to the point, practical review, mate. Great little flash. Works on my XT2 and XPRO-2. Unfortunately, I could not get it to work on my X100. 😢
Just an FYI that this flash does not work with on a camera with a built in flash such X-T30,x100 etc.. Would not want to see someone struggle like I did wondering why it didn’t work on some of my camera bodies.
Short version: Sometimes the flash look is not preferred. It is not easy to get the effects or the mood you want when everything is lit up. What it does however is make sure everything can be seen, and with practice and knowledge, the photos can come out fantastic. So, get it. It is the difference between getting the shot, or getting dark scenes (or faces).

I managed to pick one up in Thailand used for £17 or $21.21. One of my best purchases for my camera, works amazingly paired with the X-E4!
I remember when they used to give these away with the camera

Thanks for the info!
You inspired me to bring my flash with me for tonight's photoshoot. I also use x-t5. I loved all your videos, keep up the quality work!
love the fujifilm. audio and lighting are much better than two videos ago, great improvement! Keep it up
Thank you for the feedback on lighting/audio!
Just bought my Xt-5 and was gutted about no inbuilt flash but the Ef-x8 looks promising

very true. a sacrifice i’m okay with for the price/portability
I hate bounced flash ngl
It's better than no flash 😊
Shooting w/XT-1 and XT-30 and been looking for a small and affordable flash. Thanks for the tip. Party looked like a lot of fun! K.Burke, Tucson
This flash does not work with XT30
EF-X8 + X-T5, very convenient combination. I keep it on me all the time..
It came with my XT3. I leave on my camera all the time, if needed. It doesn’t take up much room in my camera bag.
Just bought it based on your review. :)
This is the video I've been looking for months! Thanks for all the input. Do you have any idea on how does it perform with flambient photography?

Your x100 has one built in !
Not powerful enough 😊
Does it work with Sony ?
Godox V350F

Thanks for the laughter :)
I got one and didn't realize that it doesn't work with my cameras :(
Oh, which camera do you have?
I'm planning to buy this and don't want to face the same issue
It only works with XT flagship or XH series. Not working on XT10, 20 or 30
With and without flash comparison would have been better
