Hi Mark. Thank you for your instructional videos. They’ve helped me so much to draw and paint face features. Please, do not stop talking. You explain things so clearly that I wouldn’t get if you talked less. Same goes for the length of your videos. Please don’t shorten them. You are a great teacher as you are. Thank you again.
honestly? mark crilley is the most soft, pure man on this entire website. he just loves to teach people how to draw??? he is so sweet and funny and makes dumb dad jokes and honestly wowie he is so nice i love mark crilley what a cool dude i love u mark
Mark, today I just got your book, thank you so much for making this, I'm 13 years old and the art lessons in my school aren't very good, but this book made me see art in a whole new perspective, and I found the ending so heartwarming and sad at the same time, you and your books are my inspiration. Thank you
im a pretty good artist but it requires me to visually draw. like i have to look at someones eyes to draw their eyes. practicing to draw without a visual example is a huge challenge for me
To achieve a more natural look, use a blending stump to blend the shaded areas so there's no marbled texture, and you can also lift some of the pencil off using a kneaded eraser for highlights.
I got The Drawing Lesson this Friday and I love it so far. I'm trying to go through it as separate lessons the same way David is to really get a feel for it and remember each point. I'm only allowing myself to read the next chapter after I've done at least 10 drawings focusing on the last lesson I've read. I'm eight drawings in... two more till chapter 3!
your videos, I just binge watched all of them a couple of days ago and they have helped me improve do much that my art teacher changed my expected grade from a b to an a* thank you so much! I am so grateful!!
I wish "The Drawing Lesson" was around when I first learned how to draw. It's a great book, especially for beginners. I enjoyed it. Thanks for publishing it.
Why are you so good at being creative, being funny, being awesome, drawing, basically why are you so good at life 😂 you are such a good teacher and literally idk why but you make everything so easy!!!! It's actually AMAZING!
I drew exactly what you did, following every step, taking my time. In the end, yours looks like a photograph and mine looks like shit LOL what happened?!
Thank you for give so good UA-cam tutorials mark! I didn’t like art at school at all but when my teacher began to show us your tutorials 3 years ago i loved it :)
wow, and I just drew a reasonable facsimile of a human ear thanks to you. You don't talk too much.. I much prefer your voice to music and I like your sense of humour.
Hey mark i just started to try drawing and i was watching your youtube videos for a while then i decided to get a book went and the only book they had left was yours keep up the good work man never knew you were that big of an artist
Hey Mark, when you draw the guidelines, you always seem to find the center of the page then you draw the guidelines? I need help with this as when I try to draw a perfect square guideline like from the video "How to draw a Lion", my lines are always slanted and don't look perfect. Oh and can you maybe make a video on drawing fur as I tend to struggle with them, on the video "How to draw a Wolf" the fur just looks like lines whiles yours actually looks like fur, what's the technique you use?
Mark, could you do a video on how to add variety to your drawings? As in, how to draw different eyes? I'm having a lot of trouble adding a bit of spice to my eyes and it's kind of frustrating.
yes I did see this, and while it was truly amazing, I was hoping maybe an ultra realistic eye, maybe with art supplies you rarely ever use to make it more of a challenge, maybe its just me but I think this would be really interesting! All up to you of course!
Very nice video. On my portrait drawings, the ears have always posed challenges. Now I think they'll be better just practicing this technique. Thanks. Oh, and no you don't talk to much. It's entertaining and stays on topic.
I loved The Drawing Lesson so much!!! It was so well thought out! I loved the annotations at the end of the chapters so we could practice, and the epilogue was so good it gave me chills!!! I think it's your best work so far!
Thanks for this video. Awesome! I just purchased my copy of "The Drawing Lesson". Was really interested in the Hyperrealism book but was afraid it would scare me off since I'm at a very early stage in my drawing. Look forward to going through it!
Not sure if you still see these comments. First thank you for this video. It is clear that while I am a natural at drawing and shading lips that ears are much much harder for me. Maybe everyone should just have long hair lol. Also I bought your how to draw graphic novel. I will enjoy reading it as well but I thought my 9 year old would enjoy it. So thanks.
oh my goodness.. I dropped my phone accidently (fumbled the ball lol) and when it landed I finally saw that our ear and a back folded dog ear looks exactly the same. It's just a matter of angle :) Thanks for the video :)
Hey mark crilley I was wondering whether it was possible if you could do a video on how to draw Asian eyes. I think they are beautiful but in a way co fusing maybe it's because I used to drawing 'western eyes' thanks
Yup Mark you did make it complicated, although it was good! And your books are really well made too.though I have noticed that you spend too much time in doing the rough pencil work than the inking, you can actually produce better sstuff if you are more efficient at it. Probably i am no one to speak as i am just 14, but can you make videos on worm's eye view pointerview and placing characters in perspective?
Hey. I am 13 years old, from Norway and I'm making a manga ( have made a lot of them before, but I'm always distracted. I get new ideas) I have told my mom about the story and she want me to publish it when I'm done. (I am not sure about that, but i really want to!) I don't quite know how to go forward or how to edit in Photoshop. Should I start by sharing a little and a little of the story or wait until I'm completely done with everything. Sorry for all the questions and my bad English writing! I need help, but I don't know where I can find it here in Norway.
Hey Mark! I was wondering what pencil sharpener you use for your Prismacolours. I have a pack of Prismas and I got a new sharpener (Just one from an office-type store) only to find out that it ate them. I can't just waste them, so what do you use?
Hi Mr. Crilley! If you're taking requests, I have an odd one for you: could you go over how to draw scars? Not necessarily scars from battle or something, nothing super intense, but scars on the arms and legs and stuff. To be honest I'm working on a character that resembles me. I have self harm scars from shoulder to ankle and ironically have a difficult time drawing them without them looking like dark cuts or just lines on skin. Do you know anything about that? Thank you! (Please don't feel obligated or anything if you're not doing requests or it upsets you. And if you do take this into consideration, I would have a trigger warning in the video because scars could obviously be unsettling.)
I wish you were around when I was 11 learing to draw ears you make it look so easy! though I've already mastered it the grid would of been most helpful.
yo, you wanna know a crazy coincidence? so when i was in art school a few years ago, i had bought this book to read it, and now, I'm watching this video THE video, that you announce the book is out, for a school project. like bruh, put this in one of Zorro's 1 in a million coincidence vids like that's so crazy bruh!
Hey mark I hope this comment founds you well. My name is Dariel I'm a huge fun of you I have all you books and I love the way you draw and explain everything. I would love to ask you 2 things. # 1 would you do a video showing how to draw digitally using an iPad Pro or the procreate app, and # 2 there's many methods and ways to sketch things but sometimes i get confuse and overwhelm by all of them. Would you do a video teaching a easy and very effective way to sketch thing like human posses mostly the whole body. Pls I would appreciate you help
Here's an online store that sells them there: uae.kinokuniya.com/products?utf8=✓&is_searching=true&restrictBy%5Bavailable_only%5D=1&taxon=&keywords=mark+crilley
Me watching this video: Wow this is great! I can finally perfect my drawing's ears and......... Me after watching the video: oh crap I don't know how to draw the left ear. Welp, I'll just have to leave my drawing with one amazing ear and one piece of modern artwork.
So helpful! Actually I appreciate it when you talk during the videos - your humor is relaxing! Cheers to the ears!
"I should probarbly stop talking". Don't ever do that :) I love the sound of your soothing voice as I learn from you
Thank you Jonas!
Yeah Jonas 😁
Yeah👌👌

Hi u must be 18 right ??
im a pretty good artist but it requires me to visually draw. like i have to look at someones eyes to draw their eyes. practicing to draw without a visual example is a huge challenge for me
lots of artists still use references.
I think after watching many of ur vids I may check out some of ur books. If they're as good as ur art then I will be very happy

many artist used cotton or paint brush for blending but you, you used hand for blending.. hahaha.. amazing..

You are more unique then many UA-camrs I see 😕😁
Hey Mark, could you possibly do another eye tutorial just to see your newest rendition of an eye?
Did you see this one from a few months ago? ua-cam.com/video/ORa66PK2dWc/v-deo.html
yes I did see this, and while it was truly amazing, I was hoping maybe an ultra realistic eye, maybe with art supplies you rarely ever use to make it more of a challenge, maybe its just me but I think this would be really interesting! All up to you of course!
Could you make a video that share your rules or techniques from your own experiences when it comes to shading, please?
This video makes me question myself on why I paid 200 dollars for drawing lessons, love your vids
Very nice video. On my portrait drawings, the ears have always posed challenges. Now I think they'll be better just practicing this technique. Thanks. Oh, and no you don't talk to much. It's entertaining and stays on topic.
Very nicely explained with demo.
I loved The Drawing Lesson so much!!! It was so well thought out! I loved the annotations at the end of the chapters so we could practice, and the epilogue was so good it gave me chills!!! I think it's your best work so far!
Thank you so much :)

That's a good idea
That is more or less painting haha (just in greyscale).
Thanks for this video. Awesome! I just purchased my copy of "The Drawing Lesson". Was really interested in the Hyperrealism book but was afraid it would scare me off since I'm at a very early stage in my drawing. Look forward to going through it!
