When you realize these trucks are built for two completely different environments and aren’t designed to compete with each other. American trucking is very much about the “long haul”, driving from one coast of a country to another just to deliver a payload with many states the truck crosses being bigger than most European countries. Euro trucking is shorter and tighter without much “long drives” in comparison to American trucking. You want to see something interesting though, look at Aussie trucking, those boys do it all x10.
As a mechanic it makes sense, cuz EU trucks have more terrian and do double deckers which get a lil more weight on trailers then in the U.S, but one of the most engine applications cummins, has their EU engines tuned up to 500-600hp while U.S models are tuned down to 400-500hp
they're "old cabs". it has the look of a old truck with brand spanking new technology inside. theyre pretty cool and you can pick automatic transmissions

Its funny becouse due to european laws the trucks cant even use half of their potential. Its like buying Pagani to drive around town where the limit is 50km/h. While American laws are so loose you can push the truck a lot closer to its limit. (That is on the highways of course)
Do one with the same power on both and an 18 speed on the U.S.A. truck and a 12+2 on the scania and haul a 50 tone load and you will see the real difference the more weight that you have the more torque you need to pull that load up steeper hills

For steep hills and heavy cargo, Volvo I-Shift 12+2 is preferable. Largest first gear ratio of them all: 32.04.
