I love this song! I remember when I first heard *"The Last Song"* by Sir Elton John. While I didn't know anyone personally who had AIDS, or who died from AIDS, I still cry whenever I listen. This song is just as relevant today as it was almost 30 yrs ago. When it was released, it was during the AIDS epidemic. Today, it could be about someone dying from Covid-19 and/or its variants.

To a close friend of mine who died from AIDS. And to all the victims of this disease. It was a hard to speak fact in '80s and '90s. Elton's song put in words fear, anger, guilt, illness and release. Such a healing song...

@thefonzkiss Elton and Bernie collaborated on the lyrics for many of Reginald Dwight's songs including "The Last Song" which was regarding the relationship between Freddie and his father. Elton dedicated that song also to all who have died of AIDS.
So sorry for your loss. This song always takes me back to the early years of the AIDS epidemic. So many people (it seemed like mostly young men) were forced out of the closet by AIDS. Many were rejected by their families & died without any loved ones by their sides. The father hugging the son in the video was especially poignant. In those early years, a lot of people were afraid to touch AIDS patients because they thought they could catch it that way. Heartbreaking.
When I first heard this song in 1993, I assumed the father was on his deathbed. Then I saw the video and cried. I still cry in 2024 every time I watch this video now. Fathers: be there for your sons, no matter what comes.
It’s a very sad but abeautiful song, the words between a father and son are so true but just recently,we’ll a few months ago my father died at 91,the truth came out about lies and deceit ,I spoke to him over the fone, and a few hours later he died ,I hadn’t seen him in five years, but sometimes the truth is to much to bear and I just couldn’t face up to what he did to me he’s in eternal sleep now
