There is another version which is shorter, but which has been taken down. I thank God that this version has survived. I live for this version of the piece. Preceded by the magnificent, too=little played Cuban Overture. Also, I love how Gustavo lets soloists determine their own pace. He showed it in his rendition of the Rhapsody with the clarinetist and here with the Concertmaster. Glorious, lets the piece breathe so deeply.
In case you're wondering, this specific performance is from "Celebrate Gershwin" played at the Walt Disney concert hall. It's on qello concerts. This is my favorite rendition as well
The internet can be such a curse, but when it brings Gustavo and the Los Angeles Philharmonic into my house - when I could never afford to see them in person... what a gift!
Hear Here! Oh Yes our intrepid conductor is an avatar. A god incarnate...just glance at his figures and how the reptations of preformers he's focused his insight on have skyrocketed over the last four years anyone who doesn't hear it and now thanks to the net doesn't see it doesn't know genius. Just listen to him conduct Devorack's New World Symphony! To call it breataking is to detract from its absolute brilliance. I'll wager that every performer whose played a score under his baton has gained form their interaction. Like the cobbler/play maker in the opening scene of Julius Cesar, Dudamel soars as a mender of old souls or old soles, whichever you happen to hear. We all know what happened to Cesar on the eyes of March, just as we all had known what Devorack had sent us from the New World. So why do we crowd the doorways to hear it again? Aren't we there in both cases in order to see what will happen to us when he mends our old souls? Sure we are. And allow me to say it, brothers and sisters...something magical will happen to us when are mended under the magic in their batons. Yes thank GORE for the NET. And Dudamel. And Shakespeare, whoever he turns out to have been.
I love watching Gustavo Dudamel conducting. He’s amazing and so enjoys what he does! I wish I could see him “live”, but in the meantime I’ll carry on with Utube. Thanks for posting!
26:35 is the single most lyric note I have ever heard in my entire life. I paused the video there because I was going to go do something away from my computer, but when I unpaused it I had to rewind because I was POSITIVE it was a singer. That's incredible.
Julio A. Mendez Muchas gracias Julio. Saludos cordiales.
Interesting comment. We're 14 years into the 21st...so what do you call "the late 20th century? By assigning "the best" to Dudamel, you close off Bernstein, Abbado, Tilson-Thomas, Gilbert, Maazel, Boulez, Haitink, Muti, von Karajan.....and dozens of other incredibly talented conductors. Superlatives in the arts are dangerous things. I don't think there is a "best" in any of the arts. Art stands on their own and, as always, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Don't close yourself off by deifying one artist over another.
Bob Burns By 'late 20th Century" I mean 1980 and beyond. You mention Bernstien and Tilson-Thomas, but these are mid twentieth century, and you didn't mention Eugene Ormandy. So lets not play games and make statement like "superlatives in the arts are dangerous" and "you close off....". Applause is always welcomed by performers and that validates my opinion of Dudamel, and I haven't closed off anything yet, but I will now --- your intellectual response to emotional music! I suggest you get more emotional about music and leave your intellect behind. YOU MAKE NO SENSE! Music invokes emotion, not intellect, and you aren't an instructor of either of these..
Dennis Sosa-Jule I guess you are asking "Cuban Ouverture"? I've just seen an answer here below, never mind, I send my regards too but from Córdoba, Argentina.
@muslit of course Bernstein is better, but we cant compare the two maestros. Dudamel does what he is capable of and Bernstein does what he is capable of

@@johnbaker3016 I agree - except "ides.
CUBAN OVERTURE is the great "lost" piece by Gershwin. Thank God more and more orchestras have found it.
I love watching Gustavo Dudamel conducting. He’s amazing and so enjoys what he does! I wish I could see him “live”, but in the meantime I’ll carry on with Utube. Thanks for posting!
About 36 minutes of awesome!

Indeed, simply overpowering and magical.
For me, it's 24:03. So tender and sweet.
Great Music and a Great Conductor and Performance. Thank you. Out.
Muchas gracias por la rectificacion. Hasta siempre con un agradable saludo.

Best recording of this I have heard.
Maravilloso Dudamel... bendito de nuestra Venezuela
Dudamel gets my vote for best conductor of the late 20th and early 21st century!
You got that right!
So do I ! Best regards from Argentina.

Bernstein's passed away by MTT is still going as strong as ever.
Utterly beautiful performances, my warmest regards!!!
Gershwin was a genius and these performances demonstrate that perfectly.
This has been a joy to watch!
d09071958 .... and to listen to!
d09- "... a joy to watch" and to feel!
I agree with you Lengo67 Best conductor of the 21st century so far..
C. Thielemann?
The lively movement towards the end always keeps me coming back. Outstanding Orchestra, loved it
Stunningly brilliant!! The best I've ever heard these pieces played. Bravo, Maestro!!
THANK YOU............ABSOLUTELY EXQUISITE......LOVED EVERY MINUTE OF IT!
A standard of performance which so solidly represents subtlety and crescendo magnificently!
Hermoso
Gustavo Dudamel is an amazing conductor...who says you cant have fun while conducting!!!!
love Dudamel!
I would like to hear the Simon Bolivar under Dudamel on this one for authentic Latin percussion and rhythmic feel.
I couldn't agree more!
Most kind...thank you
Bravo!
santa is in the LA phil, its over now
1:19
Amo a Gustavo Dudamel....!!!!!!
it communicates, they communicate, life.
Gotta love the Bass clarinet part in An American in Paris.
... ah Gershwin!
I have never seen anyone so seriously and intensely shake maracas.
conductor having fun
Gershwin? Why didn't anyone tell me Dudamel conducted Gershwin!?!
could not peel myself off...wow
Dirigere molteplici Compositori, senza mai leggere uno spartito, vuol dire essere bravi DIRETTORI, DUDAMEN NE È UN ESEMPIO. COMPLIMENTI! ♥️
Sensacion ''''
Bob Burns you are right. What Lengo 67 meant is that he is the best of the "new" conductors.
Which pixel is Dudamel?
Just kidding - thank you for bringing us this wonderful performance.
Is there a way to purchase an audio recording of this performance?
Who is the clarinet player? I've seen her in other videos. She's good!
Who says orchestras can't make up get out your seat. Who ever does, here's your counter example
Chris help me out here ..what instrument made that note. I was at 26:35 and I missed it. Thanks
Thank you for posting this wonderful concert! However, when Dudamel speaks I certainly would like to listen to him, not to the translator.
esther Szalay Me too! It's impossible to understand not even a word in russian!
there are several billion dumb cunts on this rocks. Worries are pointless
What is the name of the very first piece?
Cuban Overture
Greetings from East Anglia in England
Dennis Sosa-Jule I guess you are asking "Cuban Ouverture"? I've just seen an answer here below, never mind, I
send my regards too but from Córdoba, Argentina.
Violin. :)
Too fast...?
@muslit of course Bernstein is better, but we cant compare the two maestros. Dudamel does what he is capable of and Bernstein does what he is capable of
What is with the right-wing advertisement? Ron Johnson for Senate in Wisconsin? He is a nut! Stop the right wing ads!
bernstein is better - much better
