No, NO, I REFUSE! I need to update BIOS and every driver for no reason and blame everyone except me when it creates a problem. It's like a drug, I can't stop doing it!

I really like snappy driver origin (as a newbie). I remember last year I built my own PC and I didn't even know what pcie drivers were and a whole bunch of other drivers such as realtek for audio. I ran the program and had like 8-16 drivers (can't remember the exact number) not installed or completely outdated. After downloading and installing them I realised how important certain ones are such as pcie drivers for system security. All in all one of the best programs I ever downloaded.
I ended up using Snappy Driver installer because I couldn't get the official drivers to install on a new mini PC running Win10 instead of 11. Awesome tool. Under WIn10 there were so many drivers that wouldn't install (thunderbolt, CPU, USBs, graphics). This tool (while it took a bit of time to download the drivers) got it up and running and working how it should have in the first place. Although the first tool you mentioned also seems like a good addition. Great that you can export your current drivers if you need to reinstall Windows. BTW Installing Linux on the same hardware was a breeze compared to Windows.
If folks knew that in device manager, they can go to a mystery device, right click, go to the Details tab, and in the drop-down the second item, "Device instance path" will contain the hexidecimal PID/VID, VEN/DEV, or maybe other identifiers which can be typed into Google to identify any hardware (non-virtual) device with missing drivers, a lot less people would get sucked into those sketchy driver pack PUPs. I dread the eventual and inevitable removal of this functionality when they force it all to be done in the Metro UI :)
There there are now a bunch of good websites that will tell you the manufacturer/vendor as well. Also double driver is good to have around because you can backup your device drivers or archive them from an old windows install.
Great topic Chris! I recently did a clean install of Win 11 Pro on my new AM5 system. By default both iGPU and dedicated GPU were enabled in the bios, and Windows Update was installing a different driver version for each, which would break display drivers entirely. I figured out driver store explorer myself just last week, then saw this video! There is also a logitech lighting driver that gets pulled in through Windows update that enables the new dynamic lighting for keyboard and mice, but that update makes ALL of my USB ports not work when booting into safe mode! Both these issues were fixed by DSE.
I've had some terrible experiences up through the years using these programs. The worst one had to be IOBIT driver something, man that fucked up my computer real good.
Iobit driver booster!!. Yes. This is one very dangerous. Dangerous in the sense of this program can make more problems than solutions. And offer the other products of the company to install.
Snappy Driver Installer comes really handy, especially on laptops which don't have updated drivers on the official website (because of the manufacturers releasing new models every year, so driver support ends relatively quick), but on other websites there compatible updated drivers for a specifik hardware component in that laptop. So snappy driver checks all these official drivers on all the websites from Intel, Amd, Realtek, etc.

Hey Chris, greetings from Russia! Back in times when windows 7 and little further windows 8 just released most of admin guys and technical support specialists used driverpack solution. Big archive of drivers for windows since version 2000 on one big sized usb flash-drive 8 gb as usual, cause 16 gb and above in thosedays being so expensive. But in some cases DPS was really helpful cause some devices was been hard enough to determine manufacturer of it. And so many times i working with laptops and stucked in situation when only DPS helped to find drivers but there were different problem. After installing drivers via DPS standalone installer system failed to bloatware hell. Big windows and screens with ADs opens randomly at any time. Some shitty apps installing themselves In a background proccesess even when user disconnecting to internet. I don't know how DPS going in nowadays but for some period it was best driver managing software and then it falls to bloatware-provider.
Just upgraded to a new PC... got a ASUS ROG mobo this time and i do like that Armory Crate App from them, takes care of the major drivers. One funny quirk i had is i have to plug my phone in for internet when installing Windows.
I generally only use drivers from the manufacturer and update them manually. I am not letting any automation do this because I was pulling my hair apart trying to resolve driver issues with my radeon card. Turns out that Microsoft states that driver updates via Windows Update are optional and never ever mentions that GPU drivers are an exception to this. I had driver issues for a whole year before I found out Windows update would push its drivers in place of existing ones even if the currently installed ones are newer and pulled directly from the manufacturer's site. It would always result in a mess of differently sourced drivers of different versions that caused games to crash and this wouldn't stop until I disabled driver updates via Windows update completely. I just don't update them unless a vulnerability gets discovered or something needs it for some reason.
There was a time that Windows keept changing my audio driver when the default one worked better, the realtek made my mic sound terrible, and it didnt have the ligth bass bost a had with the other. This and other things are the reason I made a custom windows iso and now I am on linux.
My experience updating drivers I sometimes notice drivers are missing even on official manufacturer websites or are too old, like chipset, wifi and graphics drivers are so old.
I usually go with windows 11 drivers then download the gpu driver from the official website then go with driverbooster and deleting it afterwards because the ads are annoying af.
GPU drivers are a HUGE pain. My windows VM just randomly goes dark, seems like the AMD GPU drivers get uninstalled mid game for some reason. Cannot boot back to the VM unless whole machine is rebooted, then it's a whole hassle of DDUing the old driver, installing new driver/reinstalling current driver, reboot loops, and finally, maybe everything works again. At work we struggle with card reader drivers all the time. New update that's pushed through AD foooks everything up 90% of the time.
i have a prebuilt pc, never have driver updates, i just downloaded the snappy just to see what it says, it said drivers up to date......but there was 65 updates that said "not for this pc" kinda feels like it could be a little misleading for people who don't read and don't really know what there doing.
How can I force windows to NOT install a specific driver from Win update? I have a Windows11 pc that needs to install a USB driver for external hardware (A Radio in this case) but Windows insists in installing a driver that once installed simply says that they driver isn't supported and go to the manufacturer. However even though the Windows 10 driver worked its not updated or supported, instead I have to install a much older one, but every reboot etc and it's back to the "new" crappy MS Update one...
I own an Acer Swift 3 SF-314-54. Meets all requirements for use with Windows 11 (i5-8250U, 8Gb (upgraded to 20Gb), TPM, etc.) Using it with Windows 11, it does not turn on the screen when returning from sleep. Therefore, I had to try different versions of the Intel drivers for UHD 620 graphics since Acer Support told me that this notebook does not have drivers for Windows 11. Sometimes it works well and other times it fails again. I'll try using the tools you describe here once I get it working well. Thank you.
IObit Driver Booster? I've used it in the past, no problems, and it was free of charge. But... Windows Updates downloads the drivers as it is (so the only point to these programs is if WU can't get them). IObit Uninstaller Pro 11 cracked (removes ads) is great, way better than the default uninstaller.

If by support you mean not updating their websites then yes. My 5 year old motherboard still receives BIOS updates. More infrequently now but they still provide them.

How do I find these "hard to find" drivers missing in my Device manager, like: SM Bus Controller; PCI Device; AT91 USB to Serial Converter; USB Serial Port...etc...drivers? The Manufacturer's website doesn't list these with those titles. I have to be a driver guru to find the right one.
Hello, I have 2 different brand graphic tablets and for some reason they do not work along each other. Drivers are in the conflict. So i was wondering if i could solve that problem switching/flipping drivers with those tools you have mentioned?
SDIO is the best compared to windows update for drivers, its an index from official drivers from manufactory's no need to mention those 2 othet shady tools. as for the tool to export drivers? thats a good one but SDIO also does that to compile a backup
Hey Chris after doing optimization through your tool I can't enable location service it is greyed out. For this reason some apps don't work. Like Google's Quick share
I mean. Anything recent enough and Windows will manage those drivers good enough by itself. And if it can't it's probably a sign you should get new hardware anyway.
HI Chris, my tiny lenovo pc m700 has two displayport and one hdmi port. The problem im having is both displayport dont work, ive used SDIO to update the drivers but still nothing. Any recommendation would be really appreciated.
Anyone still needing these tools to install a network driver must be on Windows 7 or something like that, since all new-ish Windows versions work out of the box with network drivers installed.
The only app i trust is 3D chip Simple tell you if you have old driver if you are up to date and nothing more This app saved me when i did an fresh windows install to a propietary mobo (Dell Laptop) the default windows audio drivers werent compatible with the mother and the classic Realtek one didn't work too.... But i find this app and download the exact drivers that i need .... That are a few files with no executable..you have to install them manually with the driver installer in Divice Manager but it worked
Thanks alot, really needed help with exporting my Drivers, so not a good idea to use this export list to use with NtLite. Reasons being, creating A custom win iso for a different pc , ex Amd Vs Intel. Any way, thanks for addressing this issue.
I have a few questions for @Chris Titus Tech 1. Isn’t this all kind of moot and useless now at this point with the driver installer and updater feature added to Windows Update in Windows 10 and 11? You no longer need any third party tools or the manufacturers drivers from their websites anymore because Windows just grabs all of my drivers for me on a fresh install after using Windows Update. And for network and other devices, everything is just plug and play these days and so my internet was already available right from the Windows Install setup menu where it asks for a Microsoft Account and etc. 2. I also noticed that you didn’t mention Intel Driver And Support Assistant. Wouldn’t that automatically be superior to any third party driver installer and updater since it’s an official app created directly by Intel themselves? 3. Also, just curious, but what do you think about Driver Booster from IOBit. 4. And my last question is, what do you think about just using the Driver Installer Discs that usually come with prebuilt PC’s for your motherboard and video card and etc? How To Geek recommends just using the included installation media. Do you agree with them in that?
Do you have any experience with ddwrt? I'm thinking of installing ddwrt on my tplink ax12 that I got two weeks ago to replace the WiFi output of my cable modem. But the only way I could get it to work with my cable modem was to run it in a cess point mode which disabled most of its features. The reason I am using the archer ax12 is the WiFi in the modem that my cable modem has isn't good. Even though the signal strength isn't any better in some of my devices they still don't have any problems accessing the internet. With the cable modem the far off devices would have a lot of problems accessing the internet. Would it be worth my whole installing ddwrt on the archer ax12? How would I set it up. It literally took me 8 hours of trial and error with lots of ax12 reboots before I got it to work for me.
I'd build PC's all day long for people if all I had to do was the hardware. By far the most difficult part to me at least is doing the windows install and making it right. Not that its difficult, its just not what I would rather be doing. Its difficult when theres issues like vague bsod errors or weird wifi nic issues. I've always gotten drivers from the mobo site. Dedicated GPU driver from the manufacturer. If theres an issue and I suspect it to be driver related. I try whatever windows update says is a newer driver.

I used the Russian DriverPack on my old WinXP back in the early 2000's, it worked and didn't screw anything up. heh
@@BillAnt a bit of luck and right time to use it :)
I have been using driver booster for the longest while
Only recently i have decided to manually install my drivers since im using atlas os now.
I love sdio, been using it for years. Only ones that cause issues in my experience are storage controller updates and graphics drivers
Yes, windows content!
Thank you.
I can't post the link here, but you can download them from Intel's website.
TPM or no TPM, a laptop can be installed with Windows 11, but why would you put yourself through such mediocrity. 😂
@@PhilipMarcYT To be able to "Manage Drivers in Windows" ¿? :)
You should also NEVER use Driver Booster!
I usualy export drivers usig wimdows DISM tool to export drivers from wimdows 10/11 pc ( expecialy some wimdows based tablet that usualy dont provide any kind of software support or are reached ther EOL on the manufacturer does not exist anymore )
dism /online /export-driver /destination:
And ocasionaly i use snappy tool on some old machines too to install some missing drivers
What's the WM you use in Windows? 🤔
looks like glazewm to me, I wonder same lmao
the issue is that the mobo manufactures stop support after few years 2-3 years and it stops
If by support you mean not updating their websites then yes. My 5 year old motherboard still receives BIOS updates. More infrequently now but they still provide them.
How do I export or import a group policy on non server Windows ? To prevent password reset for example
1:52 i like how every single drivers is mere kilobytes, and then there's nvidia with 1.6GB. How in the hell is CODE weighing that much? it weighs more then entire-ass linux distros
Thank you
another alternative, which worked for me when I couldn´t get my network drivers up and running, is to use a usb to ethernet adapter!
LMAO BROS WIFI IS RUNNING AT USB SPEEDS
great tips! i have a question : after i exported all my current drivers, how can i manually reinstall again in the future? ...i don't see any executable ..
Good video!
Using Iobit. Works well for me.
Export is good but how to import them with Power Shell?
I use driver booster the free version from IObit, never had any problems.
I use a software utility called "double driver" (v4.10) to back up all drivers from a PC.
But currently Realtek and Synaptics drivers are running in the background and doing no improvement in audio or input instead eating memory 😕
Hello, I have 2 different brand graphic tablets and for some reason they do not work along each other. Drivers are in the conflict. So i was wondering if i could solve that problem switching/flipping drivers with those tools you have mentioned?
I got a question how to extract a driver form Windows 11 for example the Xbox controller latest driver, since is not offered officially offline?
I did not get one thing: this software download the drivers, or just search the one already in the system and provide you the way to easy install it?
SDIO is the best compared to windows update for drivers, its an index from official drivers from manufactory's no need to mention those 2 othet shady tools. as for the tool to export drivers? thats a good one but SDIO also does that to compile a backup
Hi Chris
Would it be possible to use this program on a PC where you can't boot into the OS, for example boot this via USB
I use Driver easy but honestly i don't know if its safe
Can I install the pirated Adobe applications in a virtual machine using the same capabilities of my hardware without losing much performance?
HI Chris, my tiny lenovo pc m700 has two displayport and one hdmi port. The problem im having is both displayport dont work, ive used SDIO to update the drivers but still nothing. Any recommendation would be really appreciated.
hi chris i bought exe wrapper today ,but nowhere to redownload, nowhere to login account. whats wrong?
Double Driver and DriverBackup! does same (beckups drivers)
this is crazy how people who are using windows and need to struggle with drivers are still saying that linux is hard
Anyone still needing these tools to install a network driver must be on Windows 7 or something like that, since all new-ish Windows versions work out of the box with network drivers installed.
The only app i trust is 3D chip
Simple tell you if you have old driver if you are up to date and nothing more
This app saved me when i did an fresh windows install to a propietary mobo (Dell Laptop) the default windows audio drivers werent compatible with the mother and the classic Realtek one didn't work too....
But i find this app and download the exact drivers that i need .... That are a few files with no executable..you have to install them manually with the driver installer in Divice Manager but it worked
how about driverbooster by io ?
i just need a website that list a stable version for each drivers. seems no one make that
Lots of news and talk about raspberry Robin in wsf... Interesting enough for a vid, Chris?
Thanks alot, really needed help with exporting my Drivers, so not a good idea to use this export list to use with NtLite. Reasons being, creating A custom win iso for a different pc , ex Amd Vs Intel. Any way, thanks for addressing this issue.
I have a few questions for @Chris Titus Tech
Why linux users tend to poke around something you do not have to touch at all? Seriously tho, I have not touched drivers since windows 7.
is that glazewm?
I had an Nvidia and amd card in my system and since the windows 10 update that adds copilot broke my drivers and I had to remove my Nvidia card.
Hey there! So, I've got this trusty old almost e-waste HP Pavilion G6, rockin' the AMD A4 chip and Windows 7 . But man, finding and updating drivers is pain in the a$$. specially graphic drivers ,HP's like, 'Sorry, we've moved on,' and AMD's all about that legacy life now. 😅 Tried my luck with SDI and Driverpack, but ended up in BSOD again and again . Any suggestions?
