The Old driver is in a container for reverting back to previous versions, it does take space up. I use System Restore which was first in Windows ME, but not 2000, then XP~11... It has saved me headaches on drivers, but you should do a backup before changing drivers

I'd even go as far as just backing up the whole windows folder, run a linux distro from a usb, copy the windows folder that way. Install all the windows drivers, if the system fails to boot after driver updates, just run linux again and replace the windows folder and try again, maybe try 1 driver at a time.

Snappy not only finds drivers for old hardware, but it actually finds almost any driver even for the latest hardware.

@Britec09 I would like to thank you so much for this video. The Driver Store & Snappy Driver are and have become very useful to me. I have an older machine, and this gave such peace of mind for the older drivers on my machine as well updating what I have. Again, thank you so much.

I can't say enough good things about snappy driver installer.
When I wanted to use Win10 on new hardware, the manufacturers drivers sets would not install correctly not matter what I did. To the point I couldn't even see what drivers were missing to install because windows was so cryptic. SDI fixed all of those issues. Never had an issue installing Linux on the same hardware and actually worked a little better with system resources and performance.
I'll have to try the driver backup software. That looks interesting.

I agree to use Snappy Driver to find drivers on old hardware.
As you said Brian dont download the whole pack for Snappy Driver. As I remember the pack is 25 Gb or more now. So it is huge. Have a nice weekend.

Stop windows update from installing drivers by installing LTSC edition of Windows, Home and Pro editions force drivers from windows update even if you use group policy to stop it

Learn how to just disable Windows update completely and use powersell to install only security updates, also you disable it in registry alongside group policy, there is a component in system to prevent windows from installing drivers automatically even, just find advanced system settings/system properties->Hardware Tab->Device Installation Settings

I've just battled through BSOD on a current ASUS motherboard. ASUS website only listed 2022 drivers for the wifi and ethernet (that was causing the BSOD). So...quite the reverse of what you suggested....had to use 3rd party tools such as SNAPPY to obtain more recent REALTEK drivers that ASUS (nor MS updates) did not provide . ASUS only had a single version available too. And their ASUS tools app is quite useless at managing BIOS upgrades and drivers.
