So I have the previous Pro SMALL, which I'm actually happy with, but I've heard that the newest model that the Control ring only does ONE thing, versus FOUR. Is this true Collin? If so that would be a deal breaker for me, as I use the control ring for brush size, zooming, going from Fill screen to 100%, and Cycling layers. And zooming and brush size won't work with the buttons.
fantastic review, thank you so much for helping me reach a decision Wacom S for me; this will be first purchase in new 7 years- ive had three previous iterations of the Bamboo/intuos/wacom lineup- ALWAYS exceeded my expectations!
I have just purchased and installed my first Wacom tablet. Thank you so much for stepping me through how to install and how to use the table. I had no idea, prior to purchasing the tablet, how to use it. Many thanks!!!!
Colin, I have a question about the number of modes that can be set for the touch ring: At the 14 minute mark of this video, you set 2 modes for the touch ring: the 1st mode you set increased the size of the brush and the 2nd mode you set decreased the brush size. Can you have set 2 additional modes for the touch ring? Thanks, Colin (or anyone), please answer this question.
Very helpful, thank you. My tablet is being delivered tomorrow and thanks to your video, I pre-installed the driver and got the operational high points -- ready to go for tomorrow's fun. Thanks Colin.
Right now I am using a tablet from xp-pen but I am planning on buying a wacom intuos pro a couple of months later and I think Wacom intuos pro small is goingto be the right choice for me because using a large tablet is too hard and you can`t use it without mapping the working area on the tablet.
Very comprehensive review, Colin. The best I have seen on UA-cam. Like everything else you do on UA-cam, smashing video! I use the Intuos Pro Large. Takes up some desk space, but allows for some great strokes my image 'sky' :)
Thanks for the comprehensive overview. I have recently bought a Wacom Intuos Pro S tablet. I appreciate that it isn't designed primarily to be a signature capture device, but this is certainly something I want to use it for. My question is this: is therte a way to ensuure that pen movements on the tablet are captured without rescaling/zooming? I.e. if I sign on the tablet such that if the start of my signature is, say, one and a quarter inches to the left of where it finishes, then the signature as it appears on the Word document, or whatever software package I am using, is also one and a quarter inches wide, without having to resize it manually afterwards?
I had the equivalent to the size M but it was a Huion tablet and i can tell you that after hours of retouching i would have preferred a size S. Your hand gets tired from have to cover all that surface. I just ordered the small one
I've been pondering whether to get one but I was never sure of the size and worried about small. Now I feel confident that the small will be just fine for me.
I would get a refurbish intous pro med ...the small pro has only one toggle mode for the touch ring ....if you can get an older intous small that would work because it has 4 but no Bluetooth
Okay so I'm a total noob on drawing tablets, but there's one thing that I don't understand and that's how the pro pen 2 dowsn't have a battery. Like, it has buttons, how does that work? I'm really curious!
Thank you for such a great review, Colin! I've used WACOM since Spring 2007, starting out with an Intuos 3 (before they even had the Pro line). I haven't used a mouse since. I currently use an Intuos 4 from 2009. It's been 10 years and it's still running great. One thing I've noticed with both my models: even though I've worn the surface smooth, the sensitivity is still as good as ever. If I need to get another WACOM tablet, I think I'll get the Intuos Pro Small for the portability and Bluetooth feature. Both my current tablets need to be plugged into my laptop to work.
Hi Colin, thank you for your well review video! I'm getting my very first Wacom ever and I buy this mainly for sketching and illustrating also learning how to draw with digital tablet. Do you think as a beginner which size should I start with? If I dont mind the size. Thanks!
Great informational video. I have been pronouncing it "way-com" but your explanation makes so much sense. I shall now be pronouncing it "wha-com" going forward.
I own the pro Medium and got the pro Small today. I have noticed that on the medium when you rest your finger on 1 of the expresskeys it displays what is linked on your monitor before pressing it. On the small i cant get this to work is this something they took out? I have checked express key view. Great review though!
I picked one of these up today as well and was disappointed to see that the capacitive touch on the express keys doesn’t seem to be there. I was looking forward to this feature as with different settings for each app it’s a lot to remember. It’s really bad that there is no description of this anywhere, the one user comment in this video is the only place online I’ve found that even mentions it.
I would very much like to get one of these for my photoshop workflow. I am scratching my head on the sizes. Would the small be too small. I know the large would be enormous for me. I just worry if I buy the medium I will find it too big.
so if you draw in illustrator and use photoshop paint brush , is this small size enough ? i mean is it comfortable ?. i m thinking about buying one , S or M
Hi Colin, Is it possible for Wacom Intuos Pro Small to connect with Microsoft One Note through the express keys or through some other means, if occasionally any note taking is required? Thanks.
Thanks for helping me decide on the size to buy. I have been toying with this for weeks now. Going for the small due to space on my desk and portability with my MacBook Pro.
@@SusanneGeert I bought the small one and I am very satisfied. It doesn’t take up that much space on my desk. I even reduced the useable area on it and I use it in a vertical position.
Yay! I've been saying it right all this time! But I didn't know about the meaning. As far as I'm concerned there's only one tablet - Wacom. This little tablet looks good, and the price isn't bad at all. I have an Intuos 2 medium and a 22HD Cintique, but I might add this one at some point. Great review as always, Colin.

Since your upload is almost one year old, I am not sure if I'll get a reply. But I never loose hope. I had thought of buying the Medium, but for two reasons I feel myself compelled to consider the Small. 1. The Medium is not available in my place, but the Small and Large are. Large is out of the question. And the Small is lesser dent on my pocket. 2. The Small will not use up a lot of space on my desk, though portability hardly matters to me as I work on Desk Top always. Now, my question is, will the actual working surface be sufficient to the work I do on Photoshop or Lightroom etc? I intend to upgrade to a 27 inch monitor. Wouldn't the actual work surface area be less considering the monitor is going to be 27 inch. I don't believe in upgrading on tablets later, instead, buy the size I need and never find the need to upgrade to Medium or Large. Please guide me. Another thing the Medium is available in the paper edition. Will the paper edition work the same way if I remove the paper sheet? Hope I'll get a timely reply, thanks. And as usual your videos and tutorials are always fantastic.
Nice tutorial, thanks! I just bought my wacom intuos pro s. I always see Aaron Nace from Phlearn working on his wacom tablet when watching his pro tutorials. Cant wait to work with it. It would probably take a while before getting used to it.
Nice video Jim, it’s confirmed my intention to get a tab, and I’ve always fancied a Wacom, now I know I do. I’m just a home retoucher, would you recommend the small as being enough? What are advantages if any, of having the medium? Thank you.
Medium gives you two extra buttons and allows you to change the texture sheet, whereas the small you are stuck with the standard texture which appears to wear out the pen nibs much quicker. Small is definitely more portable but the fixed texture sheet made me go with the medium after doing some research.
The small is definitely enough, especially for retouching, the medium allows you to toggle different functions on the touch ring, where as the small, you can only set one at a time. It also seems to me like the small has a slightly smoother texture, so it shouldn't wear out nibs as fast.
Well, I do have 2 graphics tablets, wacom intuos 13 HD and tye other one is Ugee M708. After having these 2 tablets I am still gonna but this little one.
