This was a massive hit in the US. It was #1 for three weeks and stayed in the Top 10 for 17 weeks, which was a record at the time. The song was also a huge hit on the Adult Contemporary chart, where it spent six weeks at #1 - more than any other Bee Gees song. When Billboard listed their top 100 Adult Contemporary song of all time in 2011, "How Deep Is Your Love" came in at #13.

Thanks for sharing the information and the story about this song. I found it fascinating that none of them ever learned to read music. The instruments in every song are so incredible. I guess they actually hear it in their head and duplicate that. For some reason I always thought that the lyrics were written first. I also find it amazing that Barry and Andy were so much alike and Barry said they even had identical birthmarks.
Would you consider making another request? Since he's a drummer I really want to see him react to Pour Some Sugar On Me by Def Leopard. I'm just dying to see if he notices the drummer and his unique situation. Anyway, thanks for requesting this one.

In Daniel Rachel's The Art of Noise: Conversations with Great Songwriters, Robin Gibb explained the unique sound he and Barry created by combining their voices: "If you listen to 'How Deep is Your Love' you think it's a single voice but it's me and Barry singing in unison, which produces a nice sound, as it does on 'New York Mining Disaster.' There's a sound that we do, it's almost like a single voice, but it isn't, and it's not double-tracked, it's two voices together. It's something that we've done a lot."

I noticed when they are singing their Medley live at the beginning of a song (I'm sorry I can't remember which one) Barry and Maurice sing together and both of their voices make a very unique voice also.

The Bee Gees wrote this love song at the Château d'Hérouville in France - the "Honky Chateau" where Elton John recorded three albums in the early '70s. When they arrived to record songs for Saturday Night Fever, they found it had been neglected - the studio worked, but the grounds were a mess. This gave them focus because they had little reason to leave the studio.
There was a beautiful room with a piano where their keyboard player, Blue Weaver, would play. One day, he played as Barry Gibb worked out "How Deep Is Your Love." In the documentary How Can You Mend A Broken Heart, Weaver explained how it came together: "We went into a room at the Chateau. Chopin had stayed there, so every time I looked at this piano I envisioned Chopin playing. I sat down at the piano and thought of his 'Prelude In E-flat,' and I knew Barry could sing in E-flat. Through the stained-glass window came a beam of sunlight, and Barry sang, 'I know your eyes in the morning sun.'"

Videos weren't invented in the 70's...but short promotional films were. No computers. No Auto-tune to enhance the vocals. None of the tech we have today in 2024. the song is still relevant and better than any songs put out today.

You may realize that there are Bee Gees fans, although we all like the Bee Gees many have a favourite leader singer. Personally I love when Robin sings lead, as he did a lot pre and post disco. You should listen to some of these. Kiss of Life a great one to start with. Those of us who love listening tomRobin are very protective of him and will immediately identify him when he sings lead or sings an unbelievable chorus such as in For Whom the Bell Tolls and Alone.
Also you mention poor Maurice the most talented of the three with instruments plus has a number of songs which he wrote and sang lead, try Man in the Middle.

Trains...you nearly named the song "Train Kept a Rollin'" popularized by Aerosmith. Maybe you have already reacted to it. Their recording was a cover, and several other artists/groups have recorded it before or after them. If you haven't heard it, you might put it "in the hopper" for another day. Take care

Since you've always mentioned about us. Subscribers recommending recommending songs so that ultimately you can end up playing every single song ever, which I thought was pretty funny line. So my question first of all, is this. Have you done any Quick Silver Messenger Service songs? If you have did you react to their song Fresh Air? If not, then I will call that recommendation from me. If you have, I'm gonna have to dig through My Library and find your reaction to it.
Outside note is that they named a drug drug called , psilocybin, which was named quicksilver Messenger service. Yes, I mean to say that the drug was named the same as their band. Pretty good stuff too. Very much like mescaline.

Those lyrics are demanding and not at all specific. How are they supposed to show how deep their love is and what happens if they choose the wrong way? Relationship warning alarms are going off! Don’t you tell me what I need to do! Segue into Tragedy.
