    Hey, I think's been like 2 years since I first saw this and have been wanting a linn ever since. Finally took the plunge a few weeks ago, so happy I stopped hesitating.

    so does the arrangement of the notes on the grid change depending on like a scale setting or something or are all chromatic notes represented by the lit dots and it stays pretty constant. I think the main disadvantage would be that it would be hard to play without the physical strings or raised black keys without looking. looking for some kind of expressive midi device to really master :)

    • @joyusone111
      @joyusone111  6 років тому

      Its cromatic. the lights are easily set to any scale, as well as the key and the octive. also the overlap per row is adjustable. This thing is unreal... love it every day. Def not cheap cuz all the virtual instruments that i like cost 160$ or more...

I love it so much and hope to make more videos soon. might even do tutorials of how to get started and theory via Linnstrument. thanks for asking. its the best part of my days and i miss it when i dont have energy or time to play every day

    Are these "instruments" in Kontakt? If so, do you know a reasonably priced version? Seems like it's $599 just for the program.

    • @joyusone111
      @joyusone111  7 років тому

      I do use some of the Kontakt 'Instruments'. But the really nice sounds that sound good with the linnstrument are stand alone from SWAM systems for the cello and violin. It gets expensive to have nice sounds. do you have a Linnstrument?

    Undecided right now. It's a lot to get up and running. I assume you are running Kontact 11 stand alone. It's $599 unless there is a cheaper way.

    • @joyusone111
      @joyusone111  7 років тому +1

      I actually think i only have Kontakt 5. I have been focusing more on learning the instruments i have than getting spun out on the thousands of sounds out there. My inspiration for this instrument was to have more realistic sounds so i have been playing mostly Piano, Cello and a Violin and making beats with drum kits, bass, shakers from Kontakt.
      deff a lot of money invested! but investing and earning a real Cello with lessons is not cheap either. So thats how i look at it. Now i do need a real sound system too... maybe make money with this some day but most likely just have an amazing hobby that is limitless in its potential. I love using the Looper, it really makes a band feel by myself. But does get annoying after 5 minutes of any loop. so i change it up. It has its goods and bad. Good luck Chris!

    Hello! I am hesitating between this and the seaboard rise. I also would like to learn "piano" and play cello sound. What are you thoughts? Would you recommend the linnstrument over the seaboard rise?

    • @davidlane1248
      @davidlane1248 3 роки тому

      Both instruments offer the same thing, but in a different way. The main difference is the traditional keyboard layout of the Rise vs the the isomorphic layout of the Linnstrument, which is more akin to a stringed instruments fret
      As someone that plays piano, I'll say the Rise is a better fit as a "jack of all trades" controller, but I think you'll find playing piano sounds on that squishy keyboard isn't going to give as good results as playing with a real keybed. Also, even though they're intimidating as hell to me, I think isomorphic key layout is more universal in style and therefore more useful for getting into the headspace to play other types of instruments/sound

    • @yorgohoebeke
      @yorgohoebeke 3 роки тому

      @@davidlane1248 Thank you. As a guitar player, I guess it's best to go for the linnstrument then.

    • @davidlane1248
      @davidlane1248 3 роки тому +1

      @@yorgohoebeke well it really depends on what you want to do rather than what you think you'll be good with.
      I'm a keyboard player and intend to get the Linnstrument in order to learn how to play isomorphic style and because it'll likely pair well with the Deluge(a synth/groovebox/sampler that also has an isomorphic layout) once synthstrom releases the MPE firmware update for the Deluge. I've had seaboards before and they feel infinitely more familiar to me- and therefore more comfortable- but I'm wanting to expand my horizons
      And despite what I said earlier about the Seaboard not being a good platform for playing piano specifically, it's still the piano layout, which means you'll better familiarize yourself with note layout, scales and other techniques that'll translate to other keyboard instruments. It's also worth noting that there aren't many isomorphic controllers/instruments out there, so your choices would be limited
      I'm not trying to sway you one way or the other and I'm not even close to being an expert on the subject. This is just what I've gathered from my own research online.
      Also, there's no confirmation that Roli has discontinued their Seaboard line, but I don't think you can buy them new anymore and used sellers have taken note of that with their own pricing... a cheaper alternative to the Seaboard Rise that functions essentially the same way is the K-Board Pro. 48 keys and 5 dimensions of touch, just like the Rise, but no Bluetooth midi or internal battery.
      Hopefully all this helps in your search, friend

      @@davidlane1248 Thank you for taking the time of writing such a detailed comment. I really appreciate your input. I guess I will gauge how serious I want to be with learning this instrument + the skills needed to play it. I guess another advantage of the linnstrument is its portability: it definitely wins for its polyvalence/price/size ratio.
      For now I don't have the time to get serious with another passion but when I am ready, I think I won't hesitate to get the linnstrument. It gets me excited about the possibilities and I think that's really important for me.
      Have a great week David

    • @zak8953
      @zak8953 6 років тому

      It's actually less complicated than it sounds. Audio Modelling split off from SM. They are supposedly the programmers behind the technology.
      How sensitive is the LinnStrument? I've got a ton of different pad MIDI controllers (including other MPE controllers) but none are the sensitivity that I desire.
      Just for the record, the sample modeling (and Audio Modelling instruments) sound MUCH better when you use a breath controller for the "bow". A pad controllers even with MPE really isn't ideal in my opinion.

    I am stumped as to why the linnstrument has not taken off to being in every musicians possession. The thing is simply spectacular. My guess is that is it was 1/3 of the price then everyone would run out to buy it. Does it cost 1/3 of the current selling price to build? I doubt it. Let's say is costs $200 to make. Then sell it for $400. I suspect the total net profit would likely at least be the same, but could end up being much higher because of the volume of sales. Just a thought. It's only the price that kept me away because my budget has become serious. I spend too much, as do probably a lot of music freaks who love to make music but have no business sense or no interest in music for profit.

    • @joyusone111
      @joyusone111  3 роки тому

      i have spent more money on Virtual instrument than i have on the linnsturment. so thats a factor too. my piano VST was 200, my stand up bass 100, sax 100, and on and on. I think its not just the price but putting in the 1000+ hours to get up to speed with the DAW and all computer aspects of it. im at maby 2000 hours and feel like im just getting comfortable... any real insturment is the same, you are not going to be great at guitar etc in less than 1000 hours IMHO... thanks for watching. i need to make more videos cuz that one is 2 years old.
