I was born in 1985, my Grandpa introduced me to series and I loved him for it.
Davy Crockett and John Wayne movies were my dad's shit when he was a kid. He still watches them today sometimes. I remember one time the family was visiting Disneyland. We got 2 day tickets, but went on most of the rides the first. The second day was hot and sticky and crowded and awful. Anyways, we standing in New Orleans Square, thinking of stuff to do. My dad pointed to the river and said, "Davy Crockett riverboats."
My sister and mom groaned, too tired to do anything. On the other hand, I knew my dad _loved_ Davy Crockett, so I went along with him. Long story short, it was probably the best thing to come out of that day. It's wasn't any Space Mountain or whatever, but it made my dad's day.
Weird story to share, but yeah, this video reminded me of it.
Stories like these are always fun to share
Grumpy Tea Enthusiast dude no one cares not no one read all of that
The underrated George Bruns (NOT BURNS ool) composed the themes/music for this, Pirates, and tv cartoon porducers Gerald Ray & Geoff Pike's TV SPots (with Shull Bonsol)'s TV cartoons Beetle Bailey & (Amos * Andy spinoff) Calvin and the Colonel, and also did the Eartha Kitt parody with Stan Freberg (himself at Disney, WB, Hanna Barbera, MGM,etc,.) in 1953, C'Est Sibon).(cond.orch.)
I love John Wayne!
Davy Crockett was a major part of my bonding with my dad when I was a kid, too. ♥️
this and Zorro were the shiznit when i was nine. My old neighbor had taped them all and we would watch them back to back every week.
Me,oo..
Oh Zorro was the best show.😊
My grandfather played the character "Charlie Two Shirts" in this movie.
RIP Daddy Paw
Nice to hear!
That is awesome! For the first part. And my condolences for the second.
That’s cool!
From one Crockett to another, job well done!
Davy Crockett was from my neck of the woods. I was always a big fan.
Loved it as a kid, loved it to this day, plan on loving at the rest of my life.
I remember this I also remember Davy Crockett and the River Pirates.
"Ah, the 40s..." It's from 1955, dude.
It's from 1954 dude
@@floydfletcher4313 the show's from 1954 and the movie was from 1955.
@Jack95tp Just about to WRITE that!
I think he meant the 1840’s ;)
😂
I remember that song and it was very catchy. I've had that Disney Sing Along Songs' Zip-It-De-Doh-Dah" on VHS and this song was old fashion style and it was great. "🎶Davy...Davy Crockett, The Man With No Fear."🎶"
SUre is. I had a Disneyland record album with it in m id 60s. (Yes, 60s., was born a few years after)
3:06 A lot of people don’t know this but the Texas flag didn’t fly at the Alamo. They flew the Mexican Flag with the eagle replaced with “1824.”
Because at first they didn’t want to secede from Mexico they just wanted to bring back the 1824 Mexican Constitution, brining Democracy back to Mexico and ousting Santa Anna from power
But Santa Anna surrounded the Alamo on February 23rd, 1836 the Texas Congress had to debate their next course of action and they decided to declare independence on March 2nd and named Sam Houston as the commander of all Texan forces. The Alamo fell four days later
The riverboat race movie with Big Mike Fink was, in my opinion, the best Davy Crockett movie/episode of them all. Tons more comedy and action, and the actor who played Big Mike was amazing, like an 80's Jack Black in his prime. Totally watch that one first before watching any other Davy Crockett movie, you won't regret it
That's how I saw them. Had River Pirates on tape as a kid, never saw King of the Wild Frontier until I was a teenager. I actually think River Pirates was better than the first film, simply because it keeps a more consistent tone and doesn't suddenly veer into dying at the Alamo or Andy Jackson's Presidential racism against da Injuns.
Saw it again the other day. Now I cannot sleep at night because scenes from the movie keep playing in my head.
I saw it and I laughed so hard at some of the humor. Found the movie pretty enjoyable!!!
Yeah but does it have a verse in the song?
Weird enough, I saw this movie on a shut-in with boy scouts (long story). I think we all loved it and for most of us it was an introduction to Davey Crockett.
Truthfully the movie is more based on the 1800's play Lion of the West based on Crockett's life. Growing up my Poppa and uncles were so obsessed with the show that my popps punched a TV when Davy was in a fight. Yup that's him
I've never watched this or the show, though my parents have the movie on DVD. Maybe need to watch it sometime...
+Jaden Igguks Is that possible
Well know the movie's now on Disney+
me dad use to love this and the series
The Disney Davy Crockett phenomena was bigger than Star Wars for two years. The fans were male & female, age 5 to 80. The song was #1 for a month. Disney gave Fess Parker 10% of all Disney Crocket merchandize which was tremendously popular.
As they say in The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance “When the legend becomes fact, print the legend.”
Intresting Note:This "Movie" was made during the height of not only Disney's Power(as Doug pointed out),but also the height of their Live-Action Movie Dynasty.Say what you will about The Mouse's Animated stuff, their Live-action stuff was Rather good(if a little Boring at times)...
I didn't think you would do Davy, I'm happy you did. :3
I loved this movie as a kid.
I loved this movie growing up!
+Makaforchristtoshi so you didnt like it as a kid, you only liked it when you started to mature and grow then when you matured and grew you stopped liking it?
Mr. Burns wearing Homer's Brain on his head: "Look at me I'm Davy Crockett".
The TV show was really popular back in Egypt that there was a Davy Crockett craze in Egypt for a short time during the early 90's to the point they broadcast the more serious and less fantastical (by comparison) 80's mini-series also by Disney.
Fess Parker was my favorite part of this movie! :D
God, this movie made up a huge part of my childhood. I haven't watched it in ages, maybe I'll rev up the VHS player some time and indulge.
I feel the exact same way about this critic. I feel the same about the show that Fess Parker did later on called The Adventures of Daniel Boone. Not a bad show actually. check it out on youtube.
Love Fess Parker. He was the king of all Davy Crocketts. Hope a new movie about Davy Crockett comes soon.
"Who dosen't know who Davy Crockett is?" I have never heated about this
Fess Parker was also Daniel Boone right?
Dutch yes.☺️
I didn't know this either until recently but apparently it was a mini series of only 3 episodes not a full series.
Ah, my childhood.
MIne, too.
The good old days , I find myself going back to alot of old Shows. When things were much more Normal. Like also I Dream of Jeannie, Bewitched. So many more. 😊
Yeah it has every feature that any Disney movie has especially for that time period.
I'm interested. And all I can say from your review is, at least they got the ending right. :)
I couldn't agree more.
What's a Davy Crocker ? What was he, what did he do and why did he get a movie
The man who don't know fear.
American Legend.
Fought and died at the Alamo
Hero of the west
Congressman
Hunter
God.
Davy Crockett
+iHawk - so he was chuck Norris first incarnation?
+'Murrican Oil cool, sounds interesting kinda a William Wallace of the Wild West ?
I bet those Blue coats worn by the Mexicans in the Alamo scenes were the same ones the American soldiers wore in the Andy Jackson episode.
The 40s family mattered just as much as now, davy not only was from the 1800's not the 40s but he was a frontiersman, he couldn't be with his family much
The date in the book at the end of the video... change 1836 to 1986 and that's my birthday.
Georgie Russell before he picked up his family and moved to Beverly. We kids loved this Velveeta version. And maybe land grab would have described the Alamo better than war for "Texas Independence". But Disney seduced us with this version and we kids loved it.
Didn't the guy who played Davey Crockett (YES YES i know,i forgot his name already) also play Daniel Boone?I swear my dad is going to scar me for life watching reruns of westerns every Saturday morning....
+Kelsey Menges yep
Fess Parker, and, yes. Disneyland, Warner Bros.
OK, if we're doing compilation films. Disney did a mini series on The Scarecrow of Romney Marsh, leader of a band of smugglers who were using their ill gotten gains to help the poor people in the area. Patrick McGoohan (The Prisoner, Dangerman, (aka, Secret Agent Man), and Ice Station Zebra) played the Scarecrow, and they compiled the episodes into a feature film. How about reviewing that?
The miniature nuke is better.
Mountain Men, on Netflix is an interesting watch if you're into this.
Well I didn’t know the name Davy Crockett until typing this comment (ok I’ve heard of the name used to describe that weapon used in the Cold War but that’s about it)
king Dave
true
"Back when Disney was pretty much king of the world"...
Hmm the man who dont know fear... so, he has aspergers? My husband has aspergers (high functioning btw hes not rain man) and he quite literally doesnt even know how fear feels let alone having ever felt it. He asked me once if it was the same thing as worry.. thats how far from fear he is.
Its very nice, straight ladies/ gay men - get yourself a high function aspergers husband, they make you feel so safe all the time, they never bullshit you as they are always honest and they are the most loyal people you could have. 10 years married last month! I love my asd man. xxxx
Love that movie no matter what this guy says lol
Is it me or does Buddy Ebson look younger in the sequel than he does in this movie?
"Who doesn't know the name Davy Crocket?".
Non Americans.
Who the hell is Davy Crockett?
The Original Chuck Norris.
It's no longer Disney...its the disney-pire nowadays
Who doesn't know who Davy Crocket is?
Me, also what's a frontierman?
Davy Crockett was a famous frontiersman and Congressman. A frontier man is a man who lives in the frontier
@@johnycoho7830 what's the frontier?
I'm early! I like pie.
That's when Disney wasn't Woke. And Walt was running the show. He is probably turning over in his Grave and has been for some time. Never will be what it was in the 1950's😊🙄
no a berrrr
fess
Don't you knock Davy Crockett. Jerk.
Doug: as you know happens in history
Me: as you know?...AS YOU KNOW?! HYPOCRITE!
The narrator of this video has chronic condescending voice. At the end of each sentence he should go ‘hmph hmph hmph’ and twirl his moustache.
‘Davy and his partner Russell’. Seriously? Maybe learn the history before doing a review of it. It’s so evident that you don’t actually watch the movies you comment upon. At least not the old ones like this.
My US history college professor showed us this in class XD nostalgia critic
