Bruce Lee was born in 1940 and my grandfather was born in 1938 here in Cleveland,OH, when my grandfather graduated school he went to college in San Francisco and met this small, skinny 18 year old named Bruce Lee back in 58 or 59 I think he said and Bruce was teaching my grandfather martial arts back before the world even knew who he was! My grandfather got caught up in some shit out in the bay and he told Bruce he was going to stop training with him unfortunately because of what he had going on at the time, but Bruce told my grandfather to follow him to Seattle where he was going to go to school for philosophy and drama (Bruce was just finishing HS) my grandfather got all his money together and met bruce in Washington where they both attended The University of Washington and was working in a restaurant that was a friend of Bruce’s family. My grandfather trained with Bruce for 3 years and became really good friends with him and one of his first American friends. He was also good friends with Bruce’s wife Linda! My grandfather told me a lot of stories about Bruce and how strong he was, how fast and almost mystical as he put it. He said Bruce would fight ALOT!!!! And the matches would last about 90 seconds (if that). Bruce was ahead of his time so fighting against fighters back then I’m sure he mopped the floor with them, but it’ll be interesting to see what he could do with these guys! My grandfather passed away in 09 and miss his stories all the time!
And where, when and how did Joe Lewis see Bruce Lee fight?? How, where and when did YOU see Bruce Lee fight?? How, where and when did anyone see Bruce Lee Fight??? Now ask yourself, did you see a real fight or a real film??
Bruce Lee fought. It’s a fact. Wong Jackman said he fought Bruce Lee. Bruce Lee said he fought Wong Jackman. Linda Lee even testified. It’s not his only fight. Y’all disbelievers are worse than flat earthers.
Bruce lee was just a little ahead of his time, had it been another 20 or so years hed be on par with all the other guys in terms of martial arts stardom cuz nowdays what he did is not that profound by todays standards, the only thing we can give him credit for really is just paving the way for others. Bruce lee walked so guys like jackie could run. Theres still plenty of people alive today who were impressed by lee in the 70s and theyre just looking back to him with nostalgia goggles on. He was good for what he had at thr time sure but now and even back then there were and are people that could best him. As much as i like lee but i always thought personally jackie was better simply because of how much pain hes put himself through. Jackie could take everything bruce had to throw at him and then some. Jackie might say otherwise but most martial artists are humble like that. The only way i see bruce winning is if he were to outright kill jackie with the very first move. Again i like lee but i have to admit hes way overrated, people want him to be invincible and cant accept that everyone him included has flaws and they still cant get over his untimely death. People need to put the credit where it actually is and not embellish it 🤷♂️
I got no idea why he is doing this , Bruce Lee is basically the first person in the west to introduce "non telegraph fighting" on screens. There is no such terms even until so recently.

Bruce knocked out all of the front teeth of 1 of the extras in "Enter the Dragon." The extra knew martial arts & challenged him because he thought Bruce was a Fake. A little known story is that Bolo challenged Bruce to a match off the set one day and that Bruce whooped Bolo and there's a picture I saw of Bolo on the ground after Bruce got done with him. The only reason Bruce was allowed to teach Americans was because he accepted and won a fight challenge against China's best Kung Fu master. Everyone who was present at that fight said Bruce won easily after chasing the Kung Fu master around and eventually making him submit. So to say Bruce was just an actor is absurd. U do know despite him being a fighter he was a paid actor on a set right? Paid to lose. Like dude in 8 mile with the braids was paid to lose to B Rabbit lol
Bruce Lee techniques in the movies were pretty basic but executed very well and clean. There are martial artists and black belts all over the world who can do exactly what Bruce did in his movies. Many martial artist can do way more complex acrobatic highly skilled kicking techniques for example. Bruce Lee is a all time great hero but not an unvincible fighter that could beat any fighter in the world. Thats the superheroe fantasy many people have who dont know martial arts and fighting.
Bolo wasn't a martial artist, he was a bodybuilder who casually trained martial arts for fitness. And Wong Jack Man wasn't China's greatest fighter. He was an assistant instructor in San Francisco who got sucked into all of Bruce Lee's trolling and issued a challenge. The irony is that it wasn't over the right to teach westerners. Wong Jack Man's school had westerners in it already. Most people said Bruce won, but accounts vary on how difficult it was and how long the fight took. Bruce himself said he was tired and felt like what he was doing wasn't working. It's the whole reason he decided to create JKD, because that Wong fight wasn't as easy as he thought it should be.
White is a smart dude, but I think I disagree with him here. Yes, Chan is bigger, but Chan himself has admitted that he's only been in 1 real fight in his whole life, and that was when he was like 17 or 18 years old. Bruce was fighting people all the time. I think I would have to lean towards him off experience alone.
Jackie was also fighting full contact all the time in the peaking opera school for 10 years with his highly skilled kung fu brothers sammo hung and yuen biao.I dont remeber hearing that Lee was fighting full contact with experts for 10 years.
@Orion Jimmy eh yes and no. Yes, they were fighting, but a lot of that was based around choreography. Which is much different from actual fighting. I remember reading a book where he was interviewed, and he said that he had only been in 1 real fight his whole life. It was at a bowling alley where he was with a bunch of people, and they fought another group of people, and he described it as being wild and chaotic and much different from what he was used to. He said he probably only used a fraction of his training in that fight. They won, but they got banged up in the process and admitted that real fighting was much different from stage fighting. He was about 17 or 18 at the time.
@Orion Jimmy Bruce was an actual streetfighter. He had grown up fighting on the streets of Hong Kong, had won an amateur boxing tournament as a teenager and even as an adult he was still getting into plenty of fights with other martial artists and extras. The style that he invented Jeet Kune Do was primarily meant for a practitioner to learn how to fight in the streets. That's why I say, based on experience alone, I think it goes to Lee.

While I don't think you could pluck Bruce Lee out of the time stream and he could beat a modern professional MMA fighter, I do think he could take out Jackie Chan without too much trouble. If you saw Jackie's cameo in Enter the Dragon, they're not much different in size and Jackie never thought of martial arts as combat application. Bruce didn't have a lot of real combat experience against other top fighters, but he at least thought of how to apply martial arts in combat. He understood what would work and what wouldn't and did enough training to be able to apply it well against anyone who didn't have that kind of perspective. Jackie Chan only ever saw Kung Fu as Chinese acrobatics. In many respects an MMA fighter is the state Bruce was trying to achieve with JKD but died before he could see it realized.
While you can't go by movie Kung Fu, because that's all just choreographed stuff, I agree with your general assessment. Contrary to White's claims, Lee was a fighter, getting into martial arts to gain an upper hand in the street fights he was involved in due to him being bullied and then later on when he joined a gang. Chan on the other hand went to school for traditional dancing which gave him the ability to perform complex choreography, which he uses in his movies, but the stuff he does isn't combat worthy.

At almost 45 years old, I've just had a major epiphany: when women say that men have fragile egos, THIS^ is probably what they're talking about. Jackie Chan himself said in an interview that Bruce Lee would defeat him in a fight. c. 1970, no smart phones, no cameras, none of that shit. Martial Arts Champions fought Lee behind closed doors and according to credible sources, like Jim Kelly and James DeMile. Unfortunately for every "Kelly/DeMile," there are like 10 "Vic Moores."
The problem with the whole "Bruce Lee wasn't a real fighter" is that Bruce Lee had never been in a recorded fight with a professional fighter. Every fight was based on what other people say happened, and his opponents were often much less skilled. Bruce's own brother Peter had disputed the claims that Bruce grew up street fighting in Hong Kong. Peter said that "Because Bruce was a child star, he had to keep his face clean for the cameras, so we (his brothers and friends) would get into fights for him". It's 100% clear that Bruce was in top physical condition, his speed is unmatched, etc. But because Bruce never got into a "real" fight with professional fighters, it's impossible to say one way or the other. Personally, I believe Bruce would have wiped the floor with Jackie Chan. His physical feats alone proves that he can hold his own, but impossible to determine in a modern fight.
Absolutely correct. Chan had even said himself Bruce would have won but of cause it’s something we will never know. Bruce got into a lot of fights but a trained fighter he wasn’t so it’s unfair to compare really.
He didn't get beat up by Bruce Lee, Jackie was a stunt guy in Enter The Dragon who was supposed to be killed by Bruce in the film. Also Jackie's close friend Yuen Biao was also Bruce's stunt double in a lot of movies

When he was in Hong Kong shooting movies Jackie and stuntmen were actually hitting/fighting each other. Jackie said when he came to Hollywood it was difficult for him because stuntmen wouldn't hit him, so, he had to adapt. I know Jackie movies are usually comedies, but don't sleep on his fighting styles...

@@JohnDrewDesigner Actually his mom who is half-white and had some Western values forbid her children learning martial arts but they were taught acting and Bruce being a big child actor during these times could have picked up some skills just being around the set. but no his dad did not teach him Hung Gar which is a barely useful fighting technique mainly used in movies. And Jackie Chan did not learn that as he was considered clumsy so was pushed into being a tumbler, Yuen Biao learned Gymnastics as he was the lightest one and it was their 'big brother' Sammo Hung who had the training in other forms of technique be it hung gar or any other Shaolin art on the side by monks because the school felt it would help him lose weight., it was in Jackie Chan's and Sammo Hung's own words in at least two documentaries (that's if the subtitles are accurate).

Mayweather did duck boxers, he came up with bs ways of throwing out made up reasons of not fighting a really good or great boxer because he knew said boxer in his prime would have beaten him, Mayweather won off points and against boxers who was in their prime he ducked he knew he couldn't win off points they would have either straight up out box him or go in for the knockout, alot of them also was great counter punchers he didn't want a L on his record
Bro go look up Bruce Lee and go look up people who have trained and studied. This isn't the first time. Michael Jai White Said the stuff about Bruce Lee and others have completely debunked it most have said that it was low for he him even to say that because Bruce Lee's not around today to even dispute it and talking. Hypothetically people said Bruce Lee would mop up the floor with MJW because his reflexes were so fast that he could hit you and you be down before you even know it.
@The Crazy Amateur Runner NO, IT'S BECAUSE JACKIE CHAN HAS NO COMBAT MARTIAL ARTS TRAINING AND HAD ONE REAL FIGHT HIS WHOLE LIFE WHEN HE WAS 17-18 YRS OLD, LOOK IT UP REAL FACTS ALL HIS TRAINING COMES FROM PEKING OPERA SCHOOL WHERE HE LEARNED DANCE CHOREOGRAPHY KUNG FU, TUMBLING AND TORTUROUS ENDURANCE/STRENGTH TRAINING BUT NO COMBAT MARTIAL ARTS. ALL THE FIGHTING IN HIS FILMS IS CREATED CHOREOGRAPHY BY HIM AND HIS TEAM.
Even Jackie Chan would laugh at the notion that he could beat Bruce Lee. For anyone who saw Enter The Dragon, the guy who played Bolo was also a real martial artist who was at least the size of Michael Jai White or bigger. A little known story is that Bolo challenged Bruce to a match off the set one day and that Bruce whooped Bolo and there's a picture I saw of Bolo on the ground after Bruce got done with him.
@@BlackGoatfn yeah, i believe he was a real fighter because that’s consistently the account of contemporaries who fought or sparred with him. That could change, but only with actual data
@Zen he was actually 160 at his most , and in enter the dragon he was 135 llb, he knew grappling and Striking, he got into fights before . I don’t know why MJW acts like Bruce has never fought in his life lol . That’s the major flaw here
I don't think Bruce would see himself as an actor first. He would probably say he's a martial artist first. He was a pioneer of mixed martial arts. For his era he would probably beat most 'real' fighters of his time in his weight category. However if you transplant Bruce into the current era and pit him against someone of today of his weight category, perhaps he may not do so well. Pioneers aren't always the best.
but that's the thing. If you transplanted him into the current era he would be building on what is current and not the past. You can't compare a middle-age crossbow to a current crossbow.
I call B.S. on Bruce Lee not being a fighter. He did nothing but get into trouble as a teen for fighting. Hell, that was part of the real reason he was sent to the States, to keep him out of trouble. And not to mention, he was always being challenged on the movie sets in Hong Kong and would always win!! He's not like some of these bodybuilders that get surgeries to look big and ripped, he was legit!! That's why he has so many practitioners of his style because the sh$t works!!🙄

@@tyrone05 I never said Bruce Lee was unbeatable. Every man can be beaten.. But Michael Jai White makes it seem like he’s the God of fighting just because he “trains” mixed martial arts. He’s never even had a real amateur fight.
Everything he said makes sense even with the constant interruptions, and most fighters today would likely man handle lee... and that's more to do with the skill and techniques of today's fighters with better striking, grappling, kicking, and wrestling.
I know he was just a young extra in Enter the Dragon that Bruce quickly disposed of, but Jackie Chan would've made a much better end boss fight than Shih Kien who was 60 at the time they filmed the movie. Growing up...I never even knew Jackie Chan was in Enter the Dragon. I only discovered years later via the internet
Here's the thing do you think maywether would have beat Tyson or Pacquiao would have beat Ali? No, of course you don't. Weight classes exist for a reason I love Bruce Lee to death but being that I've actually trained, I have a perspective that's not clouded by my love for an old actor.
Bro seriously Tyson at 5'10 210 most of every fight that Tyson fought. The other guy had a very distinctive height and weight advantage and he was knocking fools out. When it comes to fighting true fighting it all comes down to technique and opportunities and taking advantage of them. Michael, Jai White is saying a lot of stuff but all those guys that he said that have trained in and new Bruce Lee never. @@flyguy7825 wth are u talking dude they respected doesn’t mean they can’t beat him they prolly won’t say it out of respect but it’s common sense size matters
No. And the primary reason is there are rules in boxing. Bruce's goal was to create a fighting style for real life situations. Stuff that would be illegal in the ring. Bruce's main point in his martial arts is being able to have the ability to adapt to any fighting situation, size and skill. Watch the missing footage in Game of Death, where he expressed the limitations of his opponents due to styles etc
@@flyguy7825 true , but when Tyson fought guys 6’4 and up , he had problems with them . He didn’t look very spectacular and usually went the distance . Heavyweights are obviously different than the lower weight classes where 10 pounds is a big deal , but eventually size just negates a lot of technique .
@@yogenz He literally made it a point never to fight anyone who was in their prime. I'm not saying he wasn't talented but the facts speak for themselves.
Bruce Lee was a lightweight who hit like a heavyweight where as Michael is a slow 1.85m muscle. Those who saw his action with Scott Adkins in undisputed will understand that even Scott can whoop his ass in a real fight. He is a slow muscle.
the mistake people make is they try to place Bruce Lee within combat sports perimeters against other athletes. Bruce had no interest in participating in combat sports, although if he was alive i do think he would commentate MMA. Bruce always stated in interviews that he trained for real life combat, he had an extremely short, violent temper, and he hated losing. If he got into a fight with a bigger, stronger person, the chances he would stab them are pretty high.
I didn't think Mike would be the type of guy to think bigger means better.... I've seen small guys drop guys way bigger than them with my own eyes, so to say Bruce would lose just because he's smaller is ridiculous.
I was with him on a fundamental level but he lost me saying Jackie Chan would beat Bruce Lee. They are both non fighters and Jackie Chan (love him) was not a hard-core martial artist like Bruce Lee was as MJW says in his philosophy and the way he lived. I mean that's just MJW's opinion but I just do not agree with that. If you watch in ETD where Jackie Chan bear hugs Bruce Lee from behind in the dungeon fight scene he's not bigger than Bruce Lee. So, he misses on that point.
IDK Jackie Chan is a TOUGH MFR!!! Remember he did ALL OF HIS OWN STUNTS in his movies and please show me a movie with crazier and tougher stunts than an old school Jackie chan flick .....remember it's not about how hard u hit....its how hard you can get hit and keep going

The fact that almost 50 years later there's still a discussion of who could beat Bruce Lee should tell you everything you need to know.

He wouldn't be able to teach Kung Fu unless he'd mastered it himself first. Also Bruce trained Chuck Norris and Jim Kelly, and in one of his last interviews Jim Kelly said Bruce was the greatest martial artist he'd ever seen. He said Bruce used to beat everyone at the gym in hand to hand combat and then right after, do the same with just all kicks.
There was a former world champion (I forget his name), but he said one time Bruce Lee came to his martial arts gym and whooped everybody in there and he said the dudes Bruce beat up and hurt were all sizes with some much bigger than Bruce. Anyone with common sense can just look at Bruce's inhuman speed, strength and technique to see he wasn't just an actor.
Bolo was shorter than Bruce at 5’6 and weighed 154 pounds in his prime! He was a tiny guy

He had grown up fighting on the streets of Hong Kong, had won an amateur boxing tournament as a teenager and even as an adult he was still getting into plenty of fights with other martial artists and extras. We've heard stories of Bruce being challenged by a fighter and quickly defeating them. I've never heard anyone that actually knew Bruce say he wasn't the real deal. If the guy can hit you 10 times and you can't hit him once because he's like Mayweather on speed how are you going to beat him?

Michael's I'm about to piss a lot of people off face when Bruce Lee's name comes up is priceless 😂
The question should be Michael Jai will you fight a real fight in the mma 😆 🤣
But, he has answered that question, with deference and humility..., on Vlad a few years ago.
In reality,it’s not the size of the man in the fight that counts,it’s the size of the fight in the man
Y does he hate on Bruce lee so much. Even Jackie said that he worked with Bruce and got his a$$ handed to him so … I don’t believe it
He didn't get beat up by Bruce Lee, Jackie was a stunt guy in Enter The Dragon who was supposed to be killed by Bruce in the film. Also Jackie's close friend Yuen Biao was also Bruce's stunt double in a lot of movies
The way he goes on about Bruce you would swear he knew him personally. But thats far from the case
Lost respect for this man's words.!! He cracks me up..😂
I said this in a previous comment section about Jackie Chan, but, he's a badass. I saw a documentary on Jackie and it showed when he was younger to an adult fighting.
Bruce Lee had strength, was very lean and very muscular. He has exceptional skills. He could float around you and strike or kick before you knew what hit you. Speed and technique will always overrule size!
No neccesarily depends on how big the size difference is
And what if the big guy is also fast with great technical proficiency?

A little known story is that Bolo challenged Bruce to a match off the set one day and that Bruce whooped Bolo and there's a picture I saw of Bolo on the ground after Bruce got done with him.
The only reason Bruce was allowed to teach Americans was because he accepted and won a fight challenge against China's best Kung Fu master. Everyone who was present at that fight said Bruce won easily after chasing the Kung Fu master around and eventually making him submit.
So to say Bruce was just an actor is absurd.

Yeah he’ll definitely kick my ass and probably your ass, but as much shit he talks as if he is “actually” Mike Tyson.
Michael Jai White swears he’s the most knowledgeable in the world about combat sports. I’d love to see him in an actual fight. Not movies and sparring where the guy isn’t trying to hurt him.
FACTS! He’s over here talking about Bruce not being fighter. But he doesn’t actually fight and is an actor. He spars with Bones Jones and now think he’s Mike Tyson (the real one).
@@SBoy-ks6wt he posted that bullshit sparring video. You can tell they’re legit friends… I’d like to see him in a boxing ring. They not gone play with him
Yall have been fed that Bruce Lee is unbeatable so much that you over look that there is not actual video of Bruce Lee fighting either. There are some amazing videos but no actual fights
Hating on Bruce will get you nowhere
Somebody please contact Jackie Chan and ask him who he thinks would win in a fight between MJW and Bruce Lee?
ya should ask . u r right Bro .
He said Lee would. He got interviewed by TMZ
Jackie would probably respond "who and Bruce Lee?"
Amazing how all these people can cross paths.
Small world. Even though China is a huge country.
Jackie Chan was also in the big boss, at the end of the film when Bruce Lee flipped over the bosses gate.
@@bigtyme2737 that was fist of fury bro.
@@SFNDMK I know bro, They changed the title back to “The Big Boss” and they call Chinese connection… “Fist of Fury” now it’s crazy!
Damnn didn't know that
That’s because you’re not trained. There are exceptions to every rule. MJW is correct in this case
Not once said that they can beat Bruce Lee and they've always given Bruce Lee the respect.
'Mayweather, it's not like he ducked anyone.' Vlad.
He literally ducked everyone - The boxing community.
That was my reaction, lol. He didn’t watch boxing.
He didn't duck anyone. The guy he "ducked" was said to be the one who would beat him...yet Mayweather obliterated him.
@@yogenz He literally made it a point never to fight anyone who was in their prime. I'm not saying he wasn't talented but the facts speak for themselves.
Can’t speak for the boxing community. I know plenty in the hardcore boxing community that won’t agree with you.
Vlad, how about interviewing Dan Inosanto. Bruce's number 1 instructor. And, others who are still alive who could talk first hand about Lee.
Exactly Dan inosanto been around Bruce Lee for years training with him
this man said " ive been hit upside the head alot" we can tell lol
Jet LI vs Bruce?
IDK Jackie Chan is a TOUGH MFR!!!
Remember he did ALL OF HIS OWN STUNTS in his movies and please show me a movie with crazier and tougher stunts than an old school Jackie chan flick .....remember it's not about how hard u hit....its how hard you can get hit and keep going
Weight is a gift and a curse!! I can’t believe you put so much credit on weight technique wins all the time!!
Who would Win a Fight: Marshall Law or Lei Wulong?
Gotta back my boy Marshall Law 😂
@St LouisTheTruthTV Forest Law was the OG of Tekken. Marshalls dad.
@St LouisTheTruthTV you’re right bro, I’m goin mad lol
@St LouisTheTruthTV bro Tekken Tag on the PS2 is legendary man. I used to love the bowling 😂😂 always used to use Ganryu for them overpowered strikes. I used to like using Eddy Gordo & Bryan but defo switched it up sometimes & used Forest Law & Paul. Used to like playing with Jin as well as turning into The Devil.
