      @@Melissa55 Melissa I have only just come across your UA-cam channel now, your skin looks amazing!! have you used only Retin A, or had any other treatments or fillers or anything else to help sagging skin ? I'm 37 and have got sagging in face, was looking into what I can do. Do you use anything else products or treatments (not make up) along side Retin A? Also could you tell me which one you use? Thanks xx

    One thing I've done to help control flakes after I've put on my makeup is to spritz the area with setting spray, and then gently patting the area with a cosmetic wedge sponge. It basically flattens the flakes and holds them in place rather than removing them. Sometimes if I try to get too aggressive with dislodging them, it will take the makeup with it, and then I'll have a lot of 'holes' in my makeup. Of course, most of the time I don't really have to deal too much with flakes or irritation, because I use avocado oil as the last step in my AM and PM skincare, which holds the flakes in suspension. In the morning, when I wash my face, the loose flakes are dislodged, and any flakes that might want to start to form will become suspended in the new layer of avocado oil that I put on. I use a cosmetic wedge sponge to wipe away any excess oil before putting on my sunscreen/'foundation' (I use a tinted sunscreen in lieu of foundation). I have found this regimen really keeps the flakes at bay, and I've been using tretinoin on an almost daily basis.

  • @geslinam9703
    @geslinam9703 4 роки тому +2

    I know it dilutes the power of the Tretinoin, but I moisturize first, let the moisturizer dry, then apply my RetinA. I had no trouble/irritation with the lower strengths, but when I moved up to 0.1%, I got flakiness around my mouth and on my chin. I apply some Cerave Helaing Ointment, or La Roche Posey Cicaplast balm, and those products works well

      Melissa55 Do you do any facial exercise /massage to help prevent sagging / jowls ?? You are just exquisitely beautiful and your facial muscular structure and toned jawline is amazing ! I have learnt so much from you about not ' overdoing ' moisturisers / clarisonic etc as it is tempting to 'kill with kindness ' when our skin feels dry ! You are testament to the 'less is more ' philosophy ⭐️⭐️

    • @Melissa55
      @Melissa55  8 років тому +4

      Oh Sarah, thank you so much!!! I don't do any kind of facial exercises. With me it truly is moisturizing. My cheeks and jawline really do drop from the heaviness of using it. If anyone else was in my body and could feel the feeling of my facial skin they would probably think it felt way too tight. But for me, it is what I feel comfortable with to feel firmer. I do try to always sleep on my back, too. I think that helps my muscles not get squashed into strange positions. xxxx

If your prescription plan does not cover it, you can get it from a friend or coworker who might be traveling to Mexico or going back home to visit in phillipines or India. Last coworker went back to phillipines and it was 20$ a tube. You are gorgeous and inspiring. Thank you for the videos.

    Thank you for all the suggestions and tips. You really have no idea how much you have helped me with my skin care!!! I am thrilled with the results from the Obaji line as well as the Retin a. I have been using the bare minerals with the brush during the time that I am peeling a bit and it's worked well for me. as I said before, I am not peeling badly but I sure have noticed the brown spots fading, skin tightening and wrinkles relaxing.. Really good info, Melissa. Thank you! My peeling has FINALLY decreased to the point where my skin looks normal again. I'm starting to see some very nice results from RetinA. I'm very pleased. I have a very gentle exfoliating pad that I run over my face 2 or 3 days per week. It makes my skin look perfect. It took 9 months for the peeling to improve and I almost gave up but I'm so glad I stuck with it. I don't use a liquid foundation anymore. A mineral powder foundation seems to do everything I need now. xoxo!!!

      melinda wilson I do this too. If you keep massaging in the oil's for about three minutes the flakes start to just roll off. But you really have to massage the oil well into the skin to get to the point where the flakes are going to let go of your new skin and roll off

    Melissa, you are such a blessing to so many, including me. As I've told you before, you have the most gentle spirit But, you're also such a spitfire and a lot fun at the same time! Just a wonderfully genuine human being that I'm thankful to "know" in the limited capacity of UA-cam. I just started using Retin-A .05%, thanks to you. You took my fear of it away and got me excited to start my journey with it. So, thank you!! When I peeled the first time, I used the First Aid Beauty (FAB) Ultra Repair Cream. It really, really helped a lot. It's not expensive and it's all natural. The main ingredient is colloidal oatmeal. Just thought I'd throw another option into the mix of choices. Thank you again for addressing so many questions. Some I didn't know I had until you answered them.... haha!! Much love from my home to yours! I really needed this advice. I've been using .025% starting this year in July. Once a week for month one, every 6 days for month 2, every 5 days for month 3, etc. I am now using every third day day now. I have sensitive skin and must ease into this long term relationship! Day THREE is always the day I look the flakiest. Today is a day three, I cleansed, did a lightweight moisturizer and applied a sheer foundation . Bad idea! I look perfectly fine with just the moisturizer but the foundation accentuated every little tiny and big place of flaking! I washed it all off, applied a soothing gel mask and watched your video. In fact I've watched it twice already.
    I am thankful for Melissa!

      Lisa it's just so tough to deal with the peeling. And I get discouraged at times and tired of it. When that happens I just back off on some of my products until things calm down and then ease back into it. It's just such a delicate balance isn't it? Thank you so very much. Love, Melissa

    Hi Melissa. I'm 3 years into my tretinoin and my skin has just recently started peeling. I find it's really helpful to use the Peter Thomas Roth FirmX Peeling Gel. It's super gentle, yet very effective. I also use the Peter Thomas Roth Pumpkin Enzyme Mask 2 - 3 times a week to help, too. Recently, my dermatologist has prescribed Elidel and suggested CeraVe for the peeling. Hope this helps.

      The Holika Holika Smoothie Peeling Jam is fruit (I think this one is grape) enzymatic, very gentle peel. It not the least bit harsh. It has helped me the most, with the extra peeling I've been doing since using the 0.1%, and in the beginning of using Retin A. It sells anywhere from 13.00 to 23.00 on Amazon. I am still using the one I purchased two years ago, but I have purchased a new one, since it ships from the Orient. You are a doll, and I love you to pieces.

    Hi Melissa, I have used the Obagi Nuderm system off and on for 10 years now. I probably need to start another round of it. Like you the Bareminerals makeup was really all that seemed to hide the peeling and not stir it up like a liquid would. I am now just using Retin a micro gel. When I discovered Peter Thomas Roth firmx peeling gel it was a game changer. Wow, it gently rolls the peeling skin off and reveals a soft new layer of skin, ready to fully absorb any creams or serums. On very peeling days I use it after my morning cleanse and my makeup glides on smoothly. I can use a liquid foundation and find a Beauty blender does not cause my flakes to get stirred up. I love this product and will never be without it. My daughter also uses it because her acne products dry her out. After the gel, products seem to work so much better. Just used it tonight. I enjoy your videos so much. Xo Sonya💜

    Greetings from the UK.
    Hi Melissa,
    I have just discovered your videos and think you are AB FAB! I've just turned 60 like yourself and also have been using Retin A for about the last 30 years on and off but mostly on! However, I have never used Obagi, I've only ever used Retin A on its own.
    I'm amazed that you can tolerate the 0.1%. and that you shun moisturisers. Firstly, it is almost impossible to get the 0.1% Retin A in the UK but even if it was possible, I don't think I could go anywhere near it. I use the 0.5% and have a difficult enough time with it with the peeling, irritation etc. You obviously have very tough skin and are really lucky.
    My skin is very good but your skin is FAB! The area that I've always shied away from using it on is the eye area and so that is my most disappointing area as I have quite a bit of drooping on my upper eyelids and crows feet. However, I see that you use it all around the eyes with the exception of the eyelid. So, I've going to start copying you and start OBAGI.
    Thank you SO much for your videos. They are honest and when you just look at the way you look, the whole Obagi system is definitely worth it. Keep up the brilliant work and any more specific details about how to treat the eye area would be much appreciated.

    • @Melissa55
      @Melissa55  7 років тому

      Oh hello sweetie darling (I LOVE Ab Fab) lol. That is interesting about the different strengths in the two countries. Probably the .05 would have been just fine for my skin. The .1 was available, so I just used that. lol. But even if they ever came out with anything stronger, I don't think I could tolerate it. I think the .1 is my absolutely limit, especially when you throw the Obagi in there. I am a bit embarrassed to admit I use it around my eyes. I know you're not supposed to, but I started kind of sneaking it up there. First, just into my under eye area a bit, then into my brows and then on my brow bone. So far it has never bothered me that I can tell.
      Even with being used to the Retin A, please be careful with the Obagi. It is strong and will boost the Retin A some. So even if you have to start really slowly, that's ok, too. I wish you the very best of luck! And I hope to come back there for a visit soon! Love, Melissa

    Thank you for this video, sweet Melissa. I was one that commented on my flaking situation. I'm afraid of steroid creams but the burning, itching, and flaking due to eczema are becoming unbearable so I May Go back to them. A friend of mine shared that her doctor said five days on and two days off. I think I may try that, especially around the holidays. It is so embarrassing sometimes. Anyway, I am so very very grateful for the UA-cam community, and especially you, as I've shared in a private email we do have a lot in common. Enjoy every second with your wonderful family!!

      I did see an article while researching this from Paula at Paula's choice that said not to be afraid of the hydrocortisone creams, especially with eczema. I really believe in cutting back if it gets to be too much. It does get embarrassing doesn't it? I am so grateful to you. You are such a sweet and beautiful woman. Love you, Melissa

    Happy Thanksgiving Melissa. I hope you have a wonderful time with your family. I watched your video the other day but I am out of town visiting family and I am finally sitting down to comment. This video was so helpful and I am going to watch again and write down several of the products you suggested. I struggle with peeling all the time from Retin A. I feel like a snake if I wear it more than a couple of times per week. The other day I woke up and looked 95 years old! I used Beenigma only for a few nights and everything calmed down quickly. Thank goodness! Lol Your skin is so gorgeous. You always give such great suggestions and you have helped me in so many ways. I am so thankful for you! Love you lots...Laura

    Hi Melissa, I've always been in awe at how beautiful your skin is. You are obviously doing something right. As yet I haven't gone down the Retin A path as I am worried it may irritate my skin since it's slightly on the sensitive side. I have used products with retinol in them though and my skin tolerates them well with no irritation. If I do start using Retin A I'll be using your videos as guidelines on how to care for my skin, they are so informative. Yes, there are a lot of blessings in our lives to be thankful for. Wishing you and your family a very blessed and Happy Thanksgiving. Love and hugs to you, Toula xoxo

    Hi Melissa! You did a wonderful job explaining how you deal with the flaking from the Retin-A. I used it for about a year when i was in my 40's and being the picker that I am, I peeled the dead skin off and had my face raw all the time. I have never seen a flake on your skin and it always looks so glowy and beautiful! Thank you so much for all of the information you gave us. Geeeze girl, look at all the money we're saving on moisturizer. lol I think you and I are part of a rare breed that feels the same way about it. But after coming across your channel, watching your videos, and seeing your beautiful face/skin I finally told myself to just stick with it! I continue to learn so much from you since I have started my Retin A journey a few months ago. I have already been dabbling in cortisone cream for the pesky red spots. I want to put Retin A just under my chin to tighten the skin, but I find it migrates down further on my neck to areas which I know are ultra sensitive. I find if I coat my neck first with Vaseline it helps to protect those areas. Happy Thankksgiving! Love, Joy

    You can also put Selsun Blue on the flakies if you are desperate. My daughter's dermatologist advised her to use this on a flaky skin condition she had and I wondered if it would work on my Retin A flakes. It sure did! I usually just but a bit on the corner of a washcloth, add a couple of drops of water and rub it on gently. Leave on about 3 minutes and rinse off. If it's particularly bad like around my nose, I apply it full strength with a Q-tip and leave it on about 5 minutes (or longer). I don't do this everyday but if it's extra bad and/or I have to go out somewhere and look extra good.

    I have a quick thing to share with everyone. I have discovered that along with the Clairsonic and delicate brush head using a hydrating mask such as one Aveda makes helps. Also and this is a huge help....using a hydrating setting spray after you apply your make up and either using your clean dry palms or a beauty blender to press it in keeps those little flakes and peeling spots from showing !!! Made a huge difference !!

    Hi Mellissa, first, you are a beauty! and thank you for your beautiful videos! As a fellow retina-A devotee, and ever-experimenting skincare junkie, I wanted to ask you if you've ever tried Nerium? I have at least 5 friends who all swear by it - and I being the junkie that i am - bought some and have to say it immediately made my skin look even better - however, I don't want to just throw away my awesome skincare program that I know works (aka retina-A/ peptides/ aha's/vitamin C etc). I'm so confused because the claims and real photo evidence and faces of my friends all say that Nerium does all the same stuff- but without the side effects of peeling, sun sensitivity etc... what do you think? thank you so much in advance.
