Slave derives from the word 'slav' (hence Slavic peoples). Africans and Native Americans did not have slaves (as we know it). These people of color had prisoners of war. There is a fundamental difference between a slave and a prisoner of war. Slaves among whites were stripped of their identity. Among people of color, prisoners of war were not stripped of their identity. In fact, in Africa and Native American territories some prisoners of war were treated more like guests of honor.

The Greeks were highly influenced by the ancient Egyptians. Alexander II was so in loved with Ancient Egypt he declared himself to be the son of the ancient Egyptian deity, Amun. Many carvings sculptures show him having the horns of Amun. Both Greek and Roman mythology are heavily rooted in ancient Egyptian mythology. For example, the ancient Egyptian god Dhuti became the Greek god Hermes which became the Roman god Mercury. All of them have carried intertwined snakes on a staff. Go research it

Greece had some contact with Egypt, so what. Ethiopia is modern country today but in ancient times the Greeks called black people Ethiops. You can't claim every culture as your own. Greeks, Persians, Vikings, Arabs, Moors, etc.

Slavery existed in every culture, including Babylon, ancient Egypt, long before 1700 b.c. and it's alive and well in Africa and Haiti today. BTW Syria in ancient times was not from the Caucasus. Greeks were never blacks. Philip was never married to any African. .Cleopatra is a name, not a title. All the Cleopatras were ethnic Greeks. Arabs are not blacks either and Beethoven was not from the Congo.

The fact that slavery existed in every culture...and goes on today, does not mean we can not talk about the transatlantic slave trade... It happened, it's a fact, it is history, it's AMERICAN history, and will not be forgotten. The fact that this conversation bothers you means it needs to be talked about.

That is not true! Afrika had no slavery! Afrika had servitude and bondage, you repaid debt by service, no beatings, selling you or your children, no dehumanization, & debtor could and often were integrated into family once debt was served or paid! The word slave comes from the european people the "slavics," whose women were the first to be enslaved, by their men (yurugu mode of family/clan)! So, no all cultures did not have slavery!! Afrikan culture does not support that, i e., Kmt (egypt) Never had slaves! Stop spreadig that lie, just to make every one appear like yurugu who were the inventors of such a heinous ststem!!
