Brilliant stuff ... Des mentioning 'in the professional manner that we do' at the perfect moment. I thought it was too good to be true when Des said, 'Let's see that again'. Then I found out it WAS too good to be true!
Dunno, do you not remember that taxi driver who got interviewed in bbc studio because of the confusion they thought he was a correspondent for business tech. Link below if you don’t 😂 ua-cam.com/video/jhv9HJaA67c/v-deo.html
@@mrsusan5672 who knows I think I’d like to just continue thinking it wasn’t, I mean just think about what happens when the bloke gets home to his wife and they sit down for dinner. 👩🏼💼”So hunny did you have a good day at work in the taxi?” 👨🏿🦲”Well you know I had the strangest day……….” 👩🏼💼”Ohh wait shh shh, hold on a minute the news is just coming on, tell me after ok….I’m wanting to hear this interview that’s coming up.”
@@mudhut1967 absolutely fake. It’s the BBC!!! If this shit was real, they’d make damn sure nobody knew about it.....you know, just like Jimmy Savilles seedy antics.
My favourite hoax was on " Nationwide" and was about a local authority which built a school upside down. It was believed because the story centred on an inept council...very believable. But the most interesting hoax centred on a government research station cloning DINOSAURS. This was in the 1970's BEFORE "Jurassic Park " was written. Wonder if the programme inspired the book???
The good ole days of afternoon sport, the vidiprinter and that unwashed guy doing the racing, the one with funny arm signals who looked like he was on day release from the spacca society.
Am Surprised the BBC would do such a thing like that . Aren't thet suppossed to be the posh lot ? Would have thought that sort of thing would have been left to ITV
Big up my man Des Lynam always and forever
Lol when he said "backed up by our highly our highly professional team"
you could see the slight grin on des's lips right just after he's hearing what's happening behind him in his earpiece...lol
It is a tradition to watch this every April Fools Day.
0:49 the smile while rewatching the fight😂💯
"But in the great tradition of television sport....let's just see that again" 😆
1:17 “Well, apparently, there were no serious injuries, no cut eyes, we maybe even found an opponent for Gary Mason.” 😂😂😂
One of the best things I've ever seen on live TV. April Fool's Day.
Brilliant stuff ...

If only the BBC still had a sense of humour like this.

they still do.
Or that time when the BBC interviewed a dog in the studio.
Way back, when fake shit was funny. The good old days...

'... our highly professional team.' - superb comedy timing from Des!
I recall a mate saying that the Beeb should never have revealed that it was a prank.
I’m sure when Des says “quite remarkable” he’s channelling Spitting Image’s impressions of David Coleman
old days were class
nah more like ass
DES was always the professional

why is television so boring today... I wish the old times back
0:27 was the best part
I actually do remember watching this on BBC grandstand when I was eleven years old in 1989...I must admit was in Stitches...lol
I remember me and my bro falling for this!
"It was absolutely quite remarkable there"
David Coleman would be proud.
seahawk124 oh I miss Colemanballs!
'April Fool'? Who knows? Could just be covering up the fact that it was a real barney!
Des lynam didn’t even notice that there’s a fight going on behind him
Saturday 1st April 1989, I'm pretty sure.
While the fight was on, he just had to say "We'll continue to deliver the sport you like, backed up by a highly professional team" didn't he? xD
Should have stuff like this more often in programmes.
This should be done more often! Brilliant.
Des legend lineham! That was really quite remarkable! 🤣
The only opponent Gary Mason has seen lately was the truck
I like the way how people behind the Grandstand studio have shown the 'April Fool' sign at 1:23.
jaws must have dropping everywhere when first shown
Really I was fooled!
Backed up by our highly professional team 🤣😆😂
Simply superb.
Yes, very well done!
Excellent
That was great I remember when they did that.
'highly pro team'
April twenty three, did you end up the April fool? 😅🤣😂🙄🇬🇧🇬🇧
I remember watching that live !
Duxbury!!!
All fighting over who gets the last dougnut
Brilliant Dave
Doesn't look like no holds barred unarmed combat
Greatest April Fool joke ever...
Try it nowadays and Health and Safety would go nuts.. They'd all be in high vis vests and hard hats!. LMFAO!.
that's not true at all
What legends
Lol, I was born April 1st
it looks as if it was a joke fight thats why des says backed up by a highly professional team
Action replay is a nice touch
This was shown on Have I Got News For You tonight.
April FOOLs!
Looked real at first...and sounded like life in general
It's Ronnie Pickering!
lol Ronnie Pickering makes that look tame
I remember this s**t when it happened. LOL.
April 1 1989 and i was fooled as well ! (even though it was after 12).
Seen this many times only now found out it was april fools, slightly disappointed
Highly professional team showing how to get into a rugby scuffle
LMAO!..That was brilliant! Nice job guys! :D
Superb
Quality!!!!
Haha I love the deadpan action reply very funny
This is hilarious 😁👍
'Grandstand' was usually broadcast after mid-day. This particular one certainly was. 'April Fool's Day' only counts in the morning.
It was recorded in the studio in the morning and then played out "as live" later.
Most of the famous TV "April Fools" jokes have been after noon, the famous "Spaghetti Trees" on Panorama for instance.
It would have been funnier without revealing the end. of it,
1st April 1989
April 1st if memory serves me well!!!
Aye golden moment. Made me laugh
Genius!
Love it👌🏻😂
haha loved it
i demand a slow mo action replay :)
was this wrestling coming to bbc
Ah the brilliant Des Lynham 🤣
This was an April fools joke 😎
do u think?
did the description "April fool joke on the BBC Sports show Grandstand" give it away
jesus...
The good ole days of afternoon sport, the vidiprinter and that unwashed guy doing the racing, the one with funny arm signals who looked like he was on day release from the spacca society.
As Malcolm Tucker might have said, that looked like the super-gayweight title fight!
@ucla4eva - Grandstand's finished because. All the sport BBC used to show is being shown by Sky Sports.
was it the youtube footage?
I couldn't see anything apart from the moustache
whatever happened to Des?
Where's the handbags ?
Classic! 😂
Im sure that was an April Fools prank at the time?
thats life and newsround used to have april fools day prank features and they where BBC products
Hilarious miss this stuff..
Hilarious!!
Back when everyone was Dave and had a tass
April fooo-ool!!!!!!!!!
With all due respect, watch the full video and you'll find out.
@ucla4eva I'm afraid not - it finished 4 years ago - just 2 years short of being 50!! :(
isn't the guy from countdown dead
Did anyone get Sacked?
Haha brilliant. Go The Beeb!
April Fools!!
Should have been on World of Sport, then we could have had Kent Walton commentating on it.
Makes up for the BBC not covering the wrestling!
Monty Python could not have done it better.
@ucla4eva sadly it finished some years back and i use to love watching it too
and as for des he has gone to another channel
he was given a wrong result and didnt like it lol
Dave had just found out the other guy is dating his 12 year old daughter
