I can’t thank you enough. I had my Service 4WD and service electronic stable control light on with the clunking noise at the start. I took it to the dealership, and they said the lights were due to internal failure of the Transfer case and the only way to resolve this is to replace the transfer case, which will cost me $4980.53, including parts and labor. I searched UA-cam for the issue; your video was the first search result. I ordered the Transfer case module from Amazon for $128 and replaced it as you explained, and the issue was fixed. Thank you again for saving me $$$$.
Super helpful -- took me less than 5 minutes to change mine out. Auto shop quoted me $500 for the part + labor and this cost me $26 and 10 minutes. Huge help. Thank you!
I have a code for transfer case control module, lost communication with a service electronic stability control light just bought one will it fix this problem? Comes in today
Did you try resetting the fault codes? You could have a bad TCM. Aso make sure your steering angle is correct when you check through the dash. Turn steering wheel from left to right and watch that it changes. Also, check for any broken wires on your speed sensors at each wheel.( this is common on the rears, cables rubbing through). Also, If you have an OBD reader you can check the rotation speed of each wheel while you drive. If there is any deviation in speed at one of the sensors change it as it's not picking up the speed correctly and thinks your car is losing traction constantly. Hope that helps and gives you something to check. 👍
2018 grand Cherokee limited started flashing 4WD low on the dash with a message saying “service electronic stability control” So I hooked up a code reader and it says “lost communication with transfer control module” Any ideas?
Hey mate, have you tried the easiest things first, battery power when the car is running , also any blown fuses, and checked for any broken wires around the wheels, at the module and at the transfer case motor. The cheapest option is the transfer case control module. Do you know anyone who could let you swap it out to see if it cures your issue?
@@gbcautoworks batteries are good, I am going to check the fuses tomorrow and replace them. As far as the transfer control module goes, I only unplugged it and plugged it back in. The broken wires for the wheels would be able to see from outside or underneath?
Could be transfer case position sensor. Does the transfer case motor click or does the wheels bind when turning corners when parking up? Do you know anyone that you could swap the module with to rule it out?
@@gbcautoworks mine binds when cutting corners or back up into a parking spot. Had transfer case rebuilt and still doing it. No dash lights anymore though. What’s your suggestion?
@joselomeli3295 that's strange if it's still binding. Was it done by a reputable shop? Was the TC motor replaced too? Have you tried taking out the motor to see if the binding goes away ? Were all fluids done? I usually always do fluids on front and rear diffs as well as the TC after a service.
The car was a bit clunky. I replaced the module, serviced the diffs and the transfer case. Reset adaptives and it's a lot better. I will Put some videos up soon.
@@gbcautoworksdoes that mean the jeep was jerking on acceleration? My 2015 is jerking and the dealer said the transfer case binding internally and advised to replace it. But I found your video and wondered if I should try this 1st. This video was very informative by the way. Thank you.
Are your rear wheels binding when you turn a sharp corner while parking etc? So if you put your steering wheel to left or right and try turning slowly you will hear the rear wheel dragging. Mine was doing this and I changed the rear diff fluid and transfer case fluid. It's worth a try before buying a new transfer case. I changed my transfer case module as I was getting a bit of a clunk now and again. Also, the transfer case motor can start to rattle on and off. This module change usually sorts out out.
