    The salary question is asked by companies that want to pay less than market rated, so they wanna make sure that you are already underpaid

    On blocking people from viewing WhatsApp statuses; never thought I’d get to this point. I blocked a couple of people and I’ve had so much peace since🙌🏾 people really get familiar and think they can have an opinion

    Congratulations on 10k Subbies, 🎉 That salary question really annoys me! If a company has budgeted a fair market related salary, how much others are paying me and how much I expect to earn should be irrelevant. Benchmark the role and put a cost to it and let the candidate decide if its fair or not and negotiate from there Qha. We dont walk into woolworths asking how much others were willing to pay and they dont ask us how much we would like to pay. They set a price they think is fair and we take it or leave it.

    The salary chat is so true! Feel like the salary expectation question is a set up (most of the time). Also, let’s go back to the days when prospective employers published salaries range along with the job spec info.

    The leave one is hitting me way too hard. When asked why I take annual leave, I just say: "to attend to personal matters". When it cones to sick leave: "to attend to a medical issue". I find that these responses answer the question while maintaining my privacy. It still hecks me that we have to answers them though.

    The salary question is really tricky, some companies even go as far as asking for your complete CTC without them even telling you what they are offering. I think it would be better if they would give us a range of what they are willing to offer so that you know what you are working with.
    The leave thing, it’s not just in the legal industry where they expect you to have capacity when it’s going down. It’s kinda unfair sometimes and especially if you have to explain the why. Nna sometimes I just say it’s for personal reasons that I do not wish to disclose.
    The screenshot thing is weird, I hate it.

    Goo Day Atli,
    I absolutely agree with you on all these points:
    Point 1: I too don't like this question at all. Those potential employers ask this question only to gauge who they can get that is the cheapest to them. This is unfair as others even go to the lengths of requesting salary payslips of the potential employees as you mentioned of their current earnings and that is straight up an invasion of privacy because that is confidential. All they should be doing is putting out the job post with the remuneration they're offering and the intended market will respond to the post.
    Point 2: The constant explanation to what one is entitled to really though? But I guess they want to control the numbers when it comes to matters of employees tending to abuse this privilege and/or right🤷
    Point 3: The block button is there for a reason and to be honest some people are (confounded) nuisances, forward even and you really don't want them to be seeing you in that type of light or setting, so we keep it moving. They must just deal.

    Q1 - it's complicated... yes it's about filtering whether they can afford you or not, also whether your expectation is well considered (or you want to jump from 10K to 60K for no special reason)and the payslip is to compare benefits like for like in structuring a compatitive package. If they like you in the interview, they will do best to secure you for the job.
    The reason they don't advertise is likely for competitiveness - against other employers...
    Yes, there are biases (gender, race, educational institutions) but there's also a science behind compensation and benefit administration

      I don't think you are given the chance to defend why you qualify for that salary.
      The only chance you had was your cover letter.
      The company does not engage you in that kind of conversation.

    (About salary expectations) Some employers really create a fight and jealousy amongst the employees.
    I remember 1 day, when I was paid for Basic hours, Extra time, and appreciation the bonus on top, others were paid for only Basic.
    I have seen this act making people feel less💔💔💔💨

    The employers salary question. If you think about it what they're doing is completely unethical and it's exactly like the unwritten rule that people shouldn't discuss their salaries with one another, because everytime that happens someone realises that they're being exploited and takes it up with management, which they're not happy about. I think this entire question should be made illegal because it severely takes advantage of people who lack negotiating skills and those who are not aware of their worth, those people usually being people in manual labour based professions/entry level candidate who are already being taken advantage of on a daily basis.
    Essentially, capitalism continues to capitalise on our lack of knowledge about the system and we need to stop it in it's tracks.

    You Pass Matric: "Cool, what's your average and what are you going to study"
    You go study: "Right, what are you going to do with this degree?"
    You get a job: "When are you getting a car"
    You get a car and a house: "When are you getting a man?"

      You write trade mark exams during articles or once you’re admitted. But I only did it when I worked in the trade mark department. But you don’t need to do trade marks to write the exams

    Quick question when you applied to be a Candidate Attorney for Adam's and Adam's what did you have under experience??? Because right now I don't have anything from university as i study at UNISA but I have a debating background from school. Also is it possible to volunteer at a firm if you get a Candidate attorney position before u finish studying?? Because I would love to for free and just gain experience

      Hey there. I didn’t have any experience related to law. I was working at red bull part time and I also did SRC in 3rd year. I did vac work as well, which is what you’re asking about. Check law firm websites for vacation programs. There are many 😊
