I use the matador bag for my shampoo bars, but I also cut them into quarters to make them even more lightweight. I also cut up a laundry bar (only a couple of bucks at Walmart) to do handwashing in the sink. At age 61, I am always trying to lighten my load and use a smaller backpack!
I store my soap bar in a small organza bag with a draw string. These tiny bags are available from dollar stores and are intended as gift bags. The drawer string/ribbon allows me to hang the soap on a shower curtain ring or over a tap. The texture of the organza acts as a mild exfoliant.
I've never seen the make up remover balms! I usually use make up eraser cloths but sometimes I need something more. These sound interesting. Do you need cotton pads too?
I have the Matador bag and I love it. On Maggi Fuchs' channel she recommended putting the bar of soap in a plastic mesh bag before putting in the Matador bag and that way it is easier to remove the bar of soap. Now with the mesh bag and the incredible Matador bag my soap lasts much longer and doesn't get strange or chewy. I like that he explains very well and we can see how things work and not just talking Thanks for all your advices.
I switched to all solids this year and it is nice to not worry about liquids for spilling or TSA even with Global Entry. Some toothpaste tabs have fluoride and others don't so check the label. We use both but the fluoride versions don't foam up as nicely as the non fluoride versions. Lush shampoo and conditioner bars work great. I use bar soap for body and a shave soap with brush but plan on trying just Dove Mens + care for both and maybe even getting rid of the shave brush. I also use a buff puff exfoliator pad instead of an exfoliating cream. It is more aggressive but works well and no liquid to deal with.
I've been team "solid travel toiletries" for years now. So much easier as a long-term frequent traveler. Even though we check a suitcase, I'd rather not deal with liquids leaking in our suitcase. My favorite find is The Powder Shampoo, which lathers with water. It works better than bar shampoo for me. 🌺Heidi
i started out with the shampoo./conditioner bars, but then i realized they're quite heavy, given that the airlines i'd be on have very strict carryon rules for luggage both weight and size wise. i'm trying to look for sheets instead, including laundry sheets. im trying the toner/serum hack of moistening cotton rounds with them
Olay makes water-activated facial wash cloths. I even cut them into smaller pieces to get more uses out of one. They remove makeup well and do not sting your eyes like some makeup removers I have tried.
I've had 2 different lotion bars. One in a tin and it got sticky after a bit. It had a strong lavender smell, so i just used it beside my bed, open, to help me sleep. The other was in a twist up stick. It's much better but still not lotiony. What i generally use is 100% shea butter. It's very solid. Take a tiny amount and it softens on your skin quite nicely. Great on cuticles and elbows, and also on burns or bug bite scabs that are dry and itchy. I will use a tiny bit on my face if i have a dry patch, but generally just rely on my sunscreen.
I was curious about those leaf soaps because I was thinking about substituting the soap for the shaving leaves. I checked and the ingredients are actually different.
Another cool hack I learned recently, is to decant a liquid onto cotton rounds. I like to travel with witch hazel to clean my face, or if I get a cut. It has several uses since it’s a natural astringent. Then I have a small round tin to put them in, or you can use a baggie. Once you decant a liquid, it doesn’t have to go on your liquids bag. Like wet wipes. Also, if you take hand sanitizer that is under 100ml then it MUST go in your liquids bag, but if it’s larger, it doesn’t. Weird right. A new rule since the pandemic. I would double check with TSA first to make sure it hasn’t changed. Also, that may not apply if you are flying with other airlines not originating in the states. Like if you go to Europe and start hopping around to different cities, like I’m doing next month. Happy travels!
I learned that soap bar shaped “crystals” are sold on that online monster….. for shaving. It seems the alum works on shaving nicks (so…would that be solid aftershave?) Same bar works on pits, too. They do shatter, so mine travels in an orphaned sock.
I’ve been using the Beckmann goat soap shampoo bar at home for awhile, I like their orange blossom scent, and it lasts for about 2-3 months I have about the same hair as yours.
I make my lotion as twist up bars, a cooling cream with aloe, body scrubs, and lip balms that are all very easy to use. I also started to make my own deodorant in travel size. Thank you for the information about travel hacks.
I like crystal deodorant and as a fine haired curly girl (3c mostly, IYKYK) I've had great success with Viori rice water shampoo and conditioner bars (which I keep in a silicone container). I use the conditioner as a leave-in and it works great! You can also use old pill bottles to store soap that's been cut to size.
Best solid paste deodorant I have found is by black chicken remedies. Made in Australia 🇦🇺 also grab yourself a solid SPF stick sunscreen and a small solid perfume, they save so much weight
This is amazing information. Thank you. would this be considered a solid if I soak up my face lotion or even cleansing oil, on one of these make up rounds or even cotton rounds? Or will this not be accepted by the TSA?
Thanks for watching our video! To answer your questions, I am not totally sure. I will need to do some research about that being I have never heard that done before. If I had to guess it would be fine but could cause you some difficulty explaining what it is to TSA if they question what it is.
Lush has tooth paste tablets too! They have a TINY lotion bar at the checkout that's like $2.50. It's THE perfect size for travel AND the sales for it benefits charity. If someone needs solid conditioner, body wash, etc. Kitsch is great. They have little mesh bags for them that are labelled but they are $5 each. One last item is CREMO makes shaving sheets for guys. GAME changer for my husband. Can you tell we recently replaced all of our liquid toiletries too? LOL
Lush bars are horrible on my hair. But they were THE option before more shampoo based bars were available. Their best shampoo was in bulk. You bought it by weight, not in a set bar size. Of course, it’s discontinued. I used do many superfatted soap bars that required acidic rinses…fine at home, had to bring a bottle of apple cider vinegar, so what was the gain? I use Ethique, Leaves and Kitsch shampoo bars, Ethique and HiBar conditioner bars. In Matador bags. I was given two, so I have two separate sets and rotate them for fun. I cut the bars down so I have soap, shampoo and conditioner in the same bag. I’ll pat the bars with my towel before popping into the bag. I have long, medium thick hair without a lot of texture. Think horse tail. And I’m a little picky about what I put on my hair.
One thing is to avoid scented products on airplanes. Lots of people have perfume allergies and or asthma that gets triggered by perfumes. Nothing creates more hell than being stuck on a closed air plane next to or close to someone wearing scented products. Please be considerate of people’s need to breathe! 💜
I went with 1 bar of clear glycerine soap in a stainless steel shave cup & lid, for: shower, shampoo, shave soap & shave brush. Tooth brush, small toothpaste, roll floss, small stick deoderant, lip balm, Ibuprofen & Q-Tips. Done.
One really important liquid I think shouldn't be left out. Hand sanitizer, you can get hand sanitizer wipes, but they dry out. What is a good alternative?
I have used solid lotion I found at a boutique and it was good. I tried solid shampoo and it left my hair stiff and looked unwashed . Chewing toothpaste tablets sounds disgusting. 😝
A Dermatologist will tell you to avoid sunscreen sticks. They are ok once in a while in a pinch, but you’re not getting adequate skin protection from a stick!
Lemon and salt should not be used on your hair. It’s ok to switch to solids for MOST toiletries, just take shampoo and conditioner in liquid form. I love the toothpaste tablets that I buy on Amazon so I don’t have to take a tube of toothpaste. Women: cleansing balms are not classified as liquids by the TSA so they are great for makeup removal. I put my eye makeup remover, liquid exfoliant, and hydrating toner in separate ziploc bags with cotton rounds to absorb the liquid. That’s 3 “liquids” that don’t have to go in my liquid baggie.
All good ideas, but the downside is, that most of these products come in a plastic container, which creates more plastic waste. Please try to focus more on those companies that use degradable packaging 😉
Yes. Lush has recycled paper packaging. There are plenty of solid deodorants in recycled cardboard packaging too, but I can never find one that’s antiperspirant because of the myth that it causes cancer.

Smart! I buy the ones from Kitsch for $5 a pop! 🤣🤣
I love that you mentioned Lush. I use it daily and have found that the store will even give you samples which can also be used for a weekend getaway😅
Perfume - Lush, Jo Malone
Face moisturizer - Olay sticks
Sunscreen sticks
Bug repellent sticks
Kitsch shampoo & conditioner - also has great travel containers
Colgate toothpaste tabs
Makeup remover balm stick - Elf & Wet ‘n Wild

Ethique solid bars are wonderful and are plastic free. I use them both at home and on travel.
Great I will add it to the list of things to try out!❤️
I like Anahana bar shampoo. It’s harder and doesn’t get goopy like Ethique

The brand is actually called "The Powder Shampoo"@@staceybreeze9927

I love the little solid sunscreen sticks by CeraVe. Great vid!
Thanks for the recommendation and watching!❤️
JUST got me some laundry detergent 'sheets'. Cut a sheet in quarters and will test soon.
I’ve been using laundry sheets at home for a couple of years, and plan to pack a few for my next trip. I’ve been happy with them.
That will have to be one of the next things I try out! Thanks for watching ❤️
Which brand? I use EARTH BREEZE & I luvvvv it !!
I really appreciate your thorough explanations..tips for better use of the products. I already use many of these but enjoy learning about others!

Crystal deodorant sticks are great! All you have to do is wet them. They last a long time too.
Agreed! I’ve been using mine for years! It’s AMAZING! Kind of blows me away!
I learned that soap bar shaped “crystals” are sold on that online monster….. for shaving. It seems the alum works on shaving nicks (so…would that be solid aftershave?)

Lush toothpaste tabs are smaller than most, softer so they dissiolve well but foam up nicely.

Dr Bronner’s Castile soap is perfect for hair, body and laundry. I’m a woman, by the way.
Thanks so much for the recommendation! ❤️

Kate McLeod does a great solid lotion… comes in a travel size as well as a larger size… very moisturizing and does not have that waxy feel
Awesome thanks for the recommendation! I will have to check it out! ❤️
I've been using a tooth powder for years. It works great, and you can pack a tiny amount to last for days. Weighs almost nothing too.
I was debating investing in some, but now I will have too! Thanks for watching ❤️
I make my lotion as twist up bars, a cooling cream with aloe, body scrubs, and lip balms that are all very easy to use. I also started to make my own deodorant in travel size. Thank you for the information about travel hacks.

You can put many toothpaste tablets in an empty tic tacs box for a compact travel case
Super helpful. Thanks so much!

I like the Sunforgettable powder SPF from Colorescience.

I was just about to suggest the same! Dr. Bronner’s can be used for laundry, dishes, body, cleaning, shampoo, etc… definitely check it out!

Some other brands to check out. Beauty and the Bees and Ethique.
Clever toothbrush design. But I Love my Sonicare. My gums do too. :-)

No crystal deodorant? You can even get little travel versions that are a little bigger than a chapstick

I replaced my liquids, too! It's much better now!
Thank you😅🪥🧼Finally someone who travels with a toothbrush, that is not electric. Now I just hope I can find it in Denmark🤞🏼
Interesting advice. I'm not sure about how e. g. a comb fits in a list with this very title though.
Does Amazon sell these bar products? I'm guessing it does. 😮
Now it's time for solid water 😂
Haha, thanks for watching ❤️
Powdered water does exist. Look it up.😅
Ice Ice Baby 🎶You're allowed to bring ice through TSA security.

"flavored" soap? 🙂
Lemon and salt should not be used on your hair.

Easier just to lighten your luggage and buy that junk when you arrive, and then pitch it when you leave. Easy-peasy.
I dont take any liquids or toiletries. My hotel always has soap and shampoo i will buy toothpaste and whatever else i need at my destination.
All good ideas, but the downside is, that most of these products come in a plastic container, which creates more plastic waste. Please try to focus more on those companies that use degradable packaging 😉

TSA select avoids all this bullshit. No taking off shoes, belts, jackets, laptops or liquids. 5 min and done. Stupid nonsense
That doesn’t work when you live somewhere other than the US. . There is no TSA in other countries. TSA pre-check only works when leaving the USA.
I bought a aquaphor stick for my next trip. I am intrigued by the toothpaste bites - I need to try those.
